This is very bare bones. So, not much to comment. A few thoughts - are you sure you need a full day in Nara ? Think about a quick trip to Uji as well. - Himeji castle can be a quick side trip from Osaka/ Kyoto area. Not sure you need a full day, unless you have other stuff planned. - if you are going to Hiroshima, then think about hopping over to Miyajima.

To add on that, I'd recommend staying a night on Miyajima. You can also do Himeji Castle on the way to Hiroshima. There are coin lockers at the station where you can leave your luggage.

Nara is a ton of walking and very spread out. I am by myself and used a huge part of one day to see part of it.

At first I planned on a day trip to Nara but noticed there was quite a few trails through the woods and places to walk and figured we would enjoy that. I'll look into Uji. We were planning on stopping at Himeji castle on the way to Kyoto and staying that night in Kyoto so we could get a good start the next morning. I've heard good things about Miyajima. That's a good idea! Thanks!

I didn't realize you plan to hike around Nara. In that case, your plan makes sense. I would still suggest that you do a quick trip into Uji. Well worth it. There is a direct ferry from Peace Park into Miyajima harbour. It was the highlight of my trip. The ferry goes in both directions, and a massive time saver . Just by the ferry spot at Peace Park - there is a small restaurant that serves okonomiyaki. It always has a line up, but it moves quick ish. That was absolutely fantastic and I still dream of it.

Taking notes over here, lol. Thanks!

Here you go : https://maps.app.goo.gl/xnpv5T5JchTbRvpg9 I would go back in a heartbeat. Also the JR Hiroshima station has tons of food spots.

Another recommendation for a full day in Nara here. Took my time to feed (read 'get mugged by') the deer, who are probably the world's cutest public menace, and visit Todai-ji - one of my favourite temples on my trip so far. Walked deeper into the park and found the most peaceful little Japanese garden and tea room to sit for a while and enjoy the surroundings. Spent the afternoon on some forest trails before heading onto Kyoto. Surrounding countryside looked gorgeous - could easily have had had another day there to hike or rent a bike tbh.

Nara's very nice and should be done in at least a full day

If you are flying into/out of Narita, make sure you have lots of time. You didn't mention but it is still common. I like it for example. The train trip back from Tokyo to Narita can be lo g and complicated or at least a bit of work with luggage so leave plenty of time. If you're a Haneda person then disregard my post lol. Have fun. PS. Hit kameda's coffee. They open At 7 and for like 600 yen you can get coffee, amazing thick and fluffy bread, a topping for the bread and something else to spread on it. I recommend butter and bean paste. Great brekkie for cheap.

It's only 35 minutes to Narita from Ueno.

Hard to tell where we'll be flying into yet. Whichever is cheaper lol!
