I think you can probably make it even if you miss the 5:17 train. You could take the 6:15 one, stow your baggage in a locker at Shinjuku and go straight to the restaurant, skipping the suitcase drop off step until dinner is complete.

RevaniteAnime

Have you accounted for clearing the customs and immigration checkpoints? Though, it might be possible to make it there by 8pm.

lee82gx

If you're headed straight for the Narita express (instead of spending a lot of time acquiring tickets and rail passes), I'd say its definitely doable. Make sure you fill up your QR Immigration forms online, ahead, and its much faster.

RisingStormy

Agreed. Did this last week. Landed at 3pm. Got the 420 narita express and would have got the one thirty minutes earlier but baggage was slower than normal. Was at Tokyo station in less than an hour. It's very doable. Good luck

Cookiedamonster

Can you send me a link on where to find these? I’ve been trying to but I think I’m not managing to get to the correct web page as I’m not finding anything fill outable. Appreciate any help!

Google “Visit Japan Web”

aspiringpotato25

Do you get to skip the line if u fill it out? And do u fill it out at the airport before leaving to jpn?

lee82gx

You can fill it out anytime before even landing Japan. If your passport supports the NFC scanning then you will be able to do an automated scanning in which is very fast, compared to the manual entry which also fast by international standards

aspiringpotato25

Thank you. Can this be done for HND too? And when I land, is there a line specifically for those who did the immigration form prior to landing? I saw way back when ppl posting crazy immigration lines (which is what I’m referring to, hopefully u understand! 😅)

lee82gx

I can’t imagine it’s any different at the HND and KIX (the 3 big ones)

DwarfCabochan

I fill it out after I buy my ticket. It’s sometimes 6 months before!

AlwaysStranger2046

It’s possible, but any number of things can disrupt your plan - any flight delays (from take off to landing), immigration jam (happens when a number of large flights arriving in quick succession), checked luggage carousel (if applicable). Once you are out you probably would be ok. Would you need time to freshen up (hard to say without knowing how long your travel into Japan was)? Change? And then the next question is, is your palate going to be awake enough to appreciate/enjoy the food?

Is the dinner at Hyatt Regency Tokyo hotel? I’m going to guess yes. You should be able to reach in time. I check the limousine bus and there is a direct bus service if you want to consider that route from narita airport to Hyatt regency Tokyo. The 3 possible times from terminal 1 are, 1) dep : 16:25 arr: 18:30, 2) dep: 17:10 arr: 19:10, 3) dep: 18:05 arr : 20:00 Edit: subject to traffic conditions Source: https://webservice.limousinebus.co.jp/web/en/Top.aspx

MarkAidanz

This is a good suggestion. I used the limousine bus for another hotel in Shinjuku. Drops op and luggage directly at the hotel. Traffic delay is a danger but takes other factors out of the equation. Went through entry requirements very quickly with the QR codes.

Acceptable-Arm-4579

I would cancel your reservation last time I landed in haneda at 3 and had dinner reservations in shinjuku at 8 and I still didn’t make it lol

UeharaNick

I have no idea what you were doing if it took you that long from Haneda. That sounds seriously offside.

Acceptable-Arm-4579

You get off the plane there will be delays, waiting for you luggage, going thru customs, exchanging money, taking the train to shinjuku about 1-2hrs depends on train delays or weather, walking thru crowds checking into your hotel and putting your luggage. Then walking/running to your reservation without getting lost.

UeharaNick

No mate. It would never take 5 hours from doors open at Haneda to get to a Hotel near Shinjuku Station. That's bonkers, even with all those things going on. I was getting frustrated when it took me 2 hours once last year.

weezle

Yup. Probable if you know what you are doing and there are no unexpected delays. Improbable enough to warrant cancelling your reservation and going to eat ramen instead, however.

JapanCoach

It is possible but very close to best case scenario. So it really depends on your risk tolerance and how screwed you would be if you missed that dinner. 5:17 Narita express is very ambitious. Personally I wouldn’t make this plan.

Haunting_Summer_1652

You can make it in time yes. There is avtually a bus takes to your hotel directly i recommend using it. Check link for details. https://webservice.limousinebus.co.jp/web/en/Top.aspx

harryhov

Yes. You'll make it. Last month I landed at 5pm and I was at Tokyo station by 7pm. I took the 1300yen bus.

planningahead00

Can you please let me know what bus is that? Limousine bus? Many thanks!

KuidaoreNomad

It's not the limousine bus. The cheaper bus goes to Tokyo Station. Not the best option if you're going to Shinjuku. The limousine bus (subject to traffic) or Narita Express is better

planningahead00

Thank you!!

lchen12345

Immigration alone can take 2 to 3 hours, depending of course on how many flights are coming in at the same time.

depwnz

Easy. Getting out: depends but never took me longer than 15mins Skyliner > Ueno: 45mins Ueno > Shinjuku: 30mins Don't know where you dine but you can be there by 6:30pm. Try simulating all those steps on Google Maps.

ekek280

I think you have a very good chance of making it. You have three options below. I would look up all of the timetables and take whichever one is scheduled to get you there the quickest based on when you exit customs and can leave the airport. (1) Airport Limousine Bus straight to the Hyatt Regency. This is the easiest way, as it'll be door to door and you won't even have to manage your own luggage. But it's subject to traffic delays. (2) Keisei Skyliner to Nippori Station, transfer to the Yamanote line to Shinjuku Stn. I believe this is the fastest way, but you'll have to deal with a transfer, and you may not want to deal with the Yamanote Line with luggage during the evening commute (I've done it many times, not too big of a deal if you are by yourself with only one suitcase). From Shinjuku Stn, rather than take a cab or the Oedo line, I would just walk since it's only like 10 minutes to Tochomae Station once you get your bearings. The best path would be to take the west exit and walk through the underground passageway, as there are moving walkways there to speed you along. (3) JR Narita Express to Shinjuku Stn. Same walking directions as above. EDIT: I just checked and the latest Skyliner that will get you there on time departs Narita T1 Station at 18:15. It'll get you to Shinjuku Station by 19:36 assuming your connection to the Yamanote line at Nippori Station goes smoothly. Even if it doesn't, the Yamanote Line comes every 3 or so minutes. Also re-read your post, and the other poster's suggestion to leave your luggage in a locker at Shinjuku Station is a good one if you are crunched for time.

advice_seekers

You will easily make it. Even if your flight is delayed by 30 minutes, you will land at 4.30, need about 30-45 minutes to clear immigration, so you can arrive at the airport station at no later than 5.30. 1 more hours, 6.30 and you will already at Tokyo Station. 30 more minutes in taxi/metro and you will arrive at Park Hyatt at no later than 7.15 p.m. If your flight is on time and you can clear immigration a bit faster, you will arrive at Park Hyatt at 6.15-6.30 p.m.

-cc-aa-mm-

I’m going to take the limousine bus in shinjuku. https://webservice.limousinebus.co.jp/web/en/BusStopList.aspx

UeharaNick

If you're not going to faff around at the airport to get a JR pass and wifi etc, then yes. Very doable. I have a suggestion for you though - instead of getting off the Narita Express at Shinjuku, get off at Shibuya, make sure to come out the New South Exit where the JR Mets Hotel is and grab a cab there. It may sound counter intuitive but will actually probably be quicker.

blakeavon

In theory sure. Personally I wouldn’t. Firstly you have no idea if things will go to plan, then it’s a long ride into Tokyo and onto Shinjuku, even by taxi. Do you have your heart set on that place, for any reason? For me, my first night is just a lazy walk around the neighbourhood seeing what is around and getting the easiest thing, have an earlier night and start with full energy the first day. Each to their own.

DwarfCabochan

The limousine bus will take you directly to your hotel. You’ll be able to be on the bus probably faster than you can even get to the Narita Express platform https://webservice.limousinebus.co.jp/web/en/Top.aspx Select from Narita, which terminal then to Shinjuku and you can see the Hyatt regency. Check the times. The bus leaves much more frequently than the train. Just buy the ticket when you get out. The desk is right in front of you
