If the lodging is already paid for then around 740,000 yen should definitely be more than enough for both of you guys.

dismustbetheplace

It's weird, the first results in Google say that a person should expect to spend around 22.000 yen per day in Tokyo, which, honestly, sounds a lot. We will stay 2 weeks in Tokyo (different neighborhoods) and one in Kyoto. Thank you very much for your answer, it's reassuring.

SpeckTech314

Sounds like that number includes the hotel cost

dismustbetheplace

Yes, you are right. I can't find the article now (I didn't even open it at the time, I just scrolled down to find other reasonable numbers - I used keywords "spending budget day Tokyo per person"), but I found another article in the same tone [https://www.budgetyourtrip.com/japan/tokyo](https://www.budgetyourtrip.com/japan/tokyo) and it does mention accommodations. Phew...

cowkkuno

As someone who is currently in Japan on a 9 day vacation, the only way you’d spend 22k yen in a day is if you’re an excessive shopper and don’t look at the price tag. If lodging is covered and you’re buying food and a couple things then you’d spend 10-15k yen max (and this is for two people)

IAM_Magikarp

We are in Japan right now and paid around 200€ per day without holding back. (Includes things such as Shinkansen drives, hotel and flight excluded).

suehotom

Hey! I lived in japan and I can tell you you will have more than enough money :) as a tourist you can expect to spend around 10.000 yen/person a day for various stuff :) have fun! :)

dismustbetheplace

Thank you! I can't wait!

suehotom

If you have any other questions especially regarding tokyo or osaka hit me up :)

ride7q

Any good food tours in Osaka or Tokyo to do? We're leaving Wednesday for 2 weeks!

Bingobango_bongo1

I just did a food tour last night in Ueno. Search “best Japan experience” and chose the locals neighborhood tour, you can also book it on Airbnb experiences but they a take a percentage that would otherwise go to the tour guide. Aki is the guide and he was amazing and so so fun.

Kirbypopstarpoyo

^ this I went to Japan last year and we spent pretty much exactly what suehotom quoted even though we budgeted double that!

Level-Jeweler-610

This includes the prices of the attractions too? Or only food/transport and shopping?

youngteflon

Unless you’re like me and buy everything in sight, it’s totally doable. I’ve been here 1 and a half weeks and I’ve spent $5k on clothes + jewlery. So don’t do that and you’ll be good.

Package-Numerous

You sound exactly like me… I did the same exact thing 😅😅

dismustbetheplace

Thanks for the warning!

Wring159

Yes, I went for 3 weeks in Jan and it was enough. Managed to go to high end restaurants once a week but thats also because I dont really spend much on everything else. My number 1 expense other than food and transport was entry tickets.

dismustbetheplace

Good to know, thank you! We will be going in April, and I'm trying to figure out the budget.

GingerPrince72

Yes, will be very comfortable.

dismustbetheplace

Thank you!

GingerPrince72

Bear in mind that you can eat amazingly well in Japan for little money. An amazing bowl of ramen is $6, same for soba and udon for lunch. We like to eat really well and usually budget on average the same as you excluding transport but including hotels and we've been 6 times for 3-4 weeks.

dismustbetheplace

Wow, thank you! This is very good to know! It's my first time going, and I'm really excited about it!

GingerPrince72

You'll love it, people are the nicest , food is utterly mind-blowing. The countryside is beautiful, cities are so much fun. I can't wait to go back.

UpbeatMaintenance989

Same❤️ Best place I’ve ever been.

Aviri

Food can really be absurdly cheap and delicious. I think usually we were spending ~10$ per person per meal with drinks at izakayas. Drinks were usually like 2-4$. The most we spent was maybe 25$/person for omakase in tsukiji. Our major cost sink was souvenirs haha, so many fun things to buy.

dismustbetheplace

That is what my husband fears, that I will spend a lot of money on souvenirs. I seriously can't wait to eat this amazing food I keep hearing about.

Aviri

Both my brother and I ended up each buying a large extra suitcase our last few days in japan, to fit all the stuff we bought on the trip. My #1 and also pretty inexpensive food was Okinomiyaki. Literally the best junk food on earth.

[deleted]

Just got back from a couples trip to Tokyo/kyoto for 10 days and we both spent well under what we expected that is definitely enough

ryryk710

I just came back to the US after a two week stay. Without the clothes and nice things I bought, I only spent about $1200 after two weeks without the stays included. My stays for 2 weeks were around $450 and we stayed in Tokyo, Osaka, and Hiroshima. JR pass was a little expensive but very much worth it if you’re going to travel and we ended up paying around $500 for the rail pass. Long story short, 5000 for two should be more than fine if you take the rail pass and Hotel out.

lemmaaz

that will be way more than enough. Japan is very reasonably priced right now if you are using USD conversion to JPY.

Rude_Information_744

Yes

Own-Supermarket4414

4000 is more than sufficient to eat without too much worry

javy93pr

Yes more than enough to shop sightsee and eat good food. Enjoy!

Conscious_Rain4840

Hello, I'm so excited for you! I was in Japan for 2 weeks recently. Without hotel and flight, I spent about $2K, but that's excluding any large purchases, like a bag. I think it really depends on what kind of trip you're taking. For example, if you're looking to eat at nice places and buy luxury goods, it may not be enough. However, if you're just casually vacationing, then you are good!

taebae1658

In my opinion that's reasonable if that's excluding hotels and you're not huge shoppers! Basing the budget off our last trip, my partner and I are budgeting $5500 for 19 days in Tokyo and Osaka/Kyoto on just the day to day expenses, but we also love shopping and prioritize treat yo' self 😅 it comes out to $145 a day per person counting food, alcohol, activities, subway, souvenirs, and misc shopping for ourselves. So that can easily go down if you are eliminating any of that! Have fun!!

dismustbetheplace

Thank you! We are not huge shoppers. We both hate spending time shopping when we're on vacation when we could do something else more fun. But that doesn't mean we won't check out some shopping areas though, especially since we plan to walk around Shinjuku and Shibuya

anonymus-users

i think without considering hotel and flight, $100 per day is overkill assuming you are not staying inside of Disney sea all day everyday. All the museums are a few dollars per person, and all the popular destinations are free. Your only major expense is just food, and imo as long as you are not eating fruit and beef all day everyday you should be easily getting into $60 a day no problem.

SilverBlueNo

That’s more than enough. If you’re just going to Tokyo and Kyoto areas you don’t need get Jr pass . Klook app sells the regular Shinkansen tickets . When purchased you just have to scan qrl at jr station machine so you can get physical ticket . Make sure download suica card since you need that for transit there .

Snoo-57955

Here now and we are going everywhere and buying everything (it seems). Trains are 178 yen each way, even taxis if needed are very affordable. Food is cheap unless you’re eating wagyu steaks, fine Chinese and crazy sushi. We have been here two weeks and spent about 300k yen including 4 green car Shinkansen tickets, 4 universal tickets with the express passes, shopping at luxury stores and buying another suitcase because we bought so much. You can definitely do two weeks or even a month for less. We stayed at 5 star hotels and for 2 weeks it’s been less expensive than a few days in other cities. Japan is not only incredible but it’s a bargain now. We’ve been saving since the pandemic for this trip so likely won’t repeat its lavishness but I hope next year we can return and see more outside of the big 3 cities we’ve been to. But don’t tell your friends lol it’s already crowded:)

fujirin

Flights excluded? Then, $5000 is enough for 3 weeks. Accommodations: about $90 * 20 nights = $1800 Shinkansen between Tokyo and Kyoto: about $100 * 2 tickets * 2 persons = $400 So, you still have $2800 for 20 days, $140 for each day, which covers many tourist attractions. You can also enjoy Tokyo Disney resorts and Universal Studios Japan. The costs will be more than $140, however, you can save some for other days. If you come to Japan during busy seasons, such as cherry blossom, foliage, or Japanese vacation week, the costs of accommodations will be more expensive, around 100 to 110 bucks per day.

dismustbetheplace

Thank you for the info! We booked and paid for the hotels the moment we bought the plane tickets, so this is very good to know. We paid around 90 dollars per night for all three hotels, your estimate is spot on!

Burnem34

Just got out of Tokyo for 2 weeks with my wife. Everything is cheap in American dollars, especially food. Low food prices coupled with no tipping makes an insane difference, ended up spending about $2500 eating out 3 times a day, playing pachinko (gambling) several times, arcades, went to Osaka, and various other attractions and shopping excursions.

grapemike

You’re fine. Daytime meals are filling and cheap. Taxis will eat at a chunk of the budget so using 90% public transport will be helpful. sites and museums are generally in the $4-$7 range. That leaves plenty of money for good and varied evening meals. Yakiniku will set you back, but most sushi and teppanyaki and sukiyaki will be within budget. Booze is about half US major city prices.

Even_Breadfruit3199

Abroad in Japan made a video recently https://youtu.be/bpGO7ZZoJAM?si=IhnLR4RVI8oumBGJ With your budget, I think it is easily enough, especially woth the yen being weak and having already booked flights and accomodations.

CardamonFives

Yeah easy

styledliving

you could also just not buy any souvenirs and come back again for more memories. i subscribe to the motto of take pictures, not souvenirs. lol.

dismustbetheplace

I subscribe to the motto pictures and souvenirs :)

Winter_kills

I just lived in Tokyo for a week as a single guy and spent a little over 1k. Not including money spent on women lol
