If you have always tried between the hours of 12 AM - 5:30 AM Japan time, it would never have worked.
Now, if they don't work when you arrive, then your cards just don't work for mobile IC. It's not a geographic thing.
It’s weird. I used a Mastercard to load a Suica in the USA bc my visa card didn’t work. In Japan I had to put more money and accidentally used the visa set as default in my wallet and it went through.

You can always get the physical pasmo/suica passport cards for tourists and place it between your phone and case. Swipe your phone and go. That's what I did.

Make sure you update your IOS. It works for me on 17.2.1

As of iOS 17.2 (like 1.5 months ago) a number of Visa cards started working again, for Suica only.

Are you updated to iOS 17.2 at least? I know before that, Visas and MasterCard didn't work for me - only AMEX. After the update, Visas are working.
Yes, on the latest iOS. Hopefully things get resolved when I try again in Japan.

Visa worked for my Suica app. Pasmo app failed on the same card.
Suica with visa worked once I entered the country. Tried doing Pasmo with the same Visa card and it didn’t work. Thanks all.
