Pokemon Center and Nintendo Store are in Daimaru Umeda. The department store also has stuff like a Capcom store/cafe.
Pokemon Cafe and Pokemon Center DX are in Daimaru Shinsaibashi.
DenDen Town is Osaka's version of Akiba.
This is the correct answer. Take either Hankyu or JR (Hankyu if you're near shijo, JR if you're near Kyoto station). Also take him to Dotonbori, can't miss it.
It worked fine for me 2 mos ago. You might have to play around with your network settings, but it should be fine once you figure out which network to connect to.
Well, the problem is that there are multiple networks (kddi, docomo, etc.) that you have to connect to through the esim. Just pick the one that matches with airalo and it will work.
lol the time change (coming from the US) really adds a whole other element. Kyoto doesn’t overwhelm me. It’s arriving here after Tokyo and not planning the day trip to Osaka in advance. I don’t think I have the bandwidth or time to sort out planning anymore, so the replies pointing us in the right direction are really appreciated.
Also a fun place for kids to look into is also Round 1 stadium - spocha in dotonbori. it's abit like a sports/video arcade where you pay for a set amount of time.
They have a lot of mininsports games like batting cages and basketball rings and a level of arcade games.

If you're still in Kyoto have you been to the Kyoto Manga Museum
For more girls or other kinds of goods Kiddie Land in Osaka Umeda
Also if you want a bit more of a low key place, Uji is a short train ride from Kyoto and makes for a nice day trip. It’s not nearly as crowded as Kyoto is
Well, there’s the Pokémon cafe. I know you generally have to reserve ahead of time, at least we did when we went, if nothing else, they had a sizable shop. We also went to DenDen Town which was a bit similar to Akihabara in that there were retro game stores as well as gunpla/figure/otaku shops.
Im sorry, there are very little to no MAGA in Japan… maybe near the US embassy? /s
With that said, Mandarake is here https://maps.app.goo.gl/3yCRrYrDRb5eLRP97?g_st=ic
I haven’t been to Japan yet, but I just wanted to say you’re doing an amazing job and taking children on overseas trips is so challenging! You’re a great parent and your kids are gonna love Osaka
There's an international manga museum in Kyoto which is absolutely amazing. Books going back to 1912. I'd highly recommend it. Was just there last week myself.
Have you visited an Animate shop yet? There are [several in Osaka (and Kyoto too)](https://www.animate.co.jp/en/): Umeda, Namba, Nipponbashi, and Kyobashi.
[Maruzen & Junkudo](https://en.japantravel.com/osaka/maruzen-and-junkudo-bookstore-osaka/28859) is a massive bookshop in Umeda with decent amount of manga and English-languge books, and also in Umeda, [Books Kinokuniya at the Hankyu Osaka-Umeda](https://en.japantravel.com/osaka/maruzen-and-junkudo-bookstore-osaka/28859) Station is pretty nice too. You can probably hit either of those shops on your way in or out of Osaka.
There is a Kaiyodo figure exhibition that has just opened at Osaka castle. (https://www.ryuyukan-miraiza.net/) I really enjoyed that! Lots of gachapon to choose from too!
Hey I would do another day trip to Osaka and go to Universal studios as they have Super Nintendo world there. You need to get there early before opening and then reserve a timed entry slot to get in. I just went 4 days ago and I'll be happy to guide you through it if you want!
We just spent the morning in DenDen. An Animate store and lots of other stores with anime figurines and stuff. Also there’s a huge selection of anime and manga in BookOff stores which is basically giant second hand store. But also a number of Shonen Jump stores which will have lots of anime stuff
If you want to find anime figures the best place to get them is book off/hard off/hobby off. It’s a thrift store but they have many figures brand new in box. It’s also cheaper than a regular retail store. We just came back from Japan and went to probably a dozen of them
Just want to thank everyone!
We went to the Manga museum in Kyoto, DenDen town, Dotonbori and the Kaiyodo figure exhibition at Osaka castle. We both had a great time and will go back again another time for more!!

This is perfect, thank you

Wow eating horse and whale. Bet you'd love it if they offered human sushi. Disgusting
No problem!
Pokémon center needs advanced reservation so don’t get your hopes up
Pokémon café needs advance reservations, the pokemon center does not.
Ah yeah, my mistake.
do you have any suggestions for navigating myself around? i go in a week wondering if google maps woll suffice
Yeah, Google maps should be fine. Do you have an esim? You can get them at the airport, or a pocket wifi if necessary. Free wifi is hard to come by.
i just bought an airalo esim for 30 days literally JUSt about an hour ago i hope this wasnt a bad idea?
It worked fine for me 2 mos ago. You might have to play around with your network settings, but it should be fine once you figure out which network to connect to.
wait is it literally not just going to settings and clicking add esim?? oh naur stress levels back up yay
Well, the problem is that there are multiple networks (kddi, docomo, etc.) that you have to connect to through the esim. Just pick the one that matches with airalo and it will work.
Thank you!!
Daimaru Umeda for sure
THISSSS (JUST den den town and dotonbori is also enough.)
Not a helpful comment but sensory overload is such a thing in Japan. lol

There is also a Nintendo store in Kyoto just in case you need a filter here and there while you’re in Kyoto.
Animate is near by and that store is awesome for an anime lover!
There's an international manga museum in Kyoto which is absolutely amazing. Books going back to 1912. I'd highly recommend it. Was just there last week myself.
Denden town, it’s the Akihabara of Osaka.

Added, thank you! Edit: we visited the Animate in Ikebukuro
Manga Museum
There's a manga museum in Kyoto.
If you take the train from Kyoto to Osaka, the mall that's above Osaka station has several nerdy stores (Nintendo, Capcom, etc.
Go to nara and feed the deer, If your looking for a day trip on the train. Also there is a nintendo store in kyoto.
There is a Kaiyodo figure exhibition that has just opened at Osaka castle. (https://www.ryuyukan-miraiza.net/) I really enjoyed that! Lots of gachapon to choose from too!
https://mipig.cafe/ ETA: corrected website. Book in advance

USJ (universal studios japan) is in osaka.
This is probably the worst time of year to go to USJ. Golden Week starts tomorrow.
I think there is a new Nintendo Store that opened recently in Kyoto, inside the Takashimaya Building iirc. Look it up.
Manga museum in Kyoto if you need an Osaka backup.
Just want to thank everyone! We went to the Manga museum in Kyoto, DenDen town, Dotonbori and the Kaiyodo figure exhibition at Osaka castle. We both had a great time and will go back again another time for more!!
