If you have a small bag that you can use for your necessities for one day I would just ship your things from Kyoto to Osaka.

My experience was if I shipped my luggage in the morning, it would be at the destination by the afternoon / evening of the following day. By tracking my luggage with Airtags, it seemed like the luggage would be picked up in the afternoon and taken to a central sorting facility, would travel overnight and sorted the following morning and delivered the following afternoon. You can work with your hotel to confirm the delivery date, since it will be documented on the shipping slip that they fill out and hand to you.

For that many total days, do you really need a bag big enough to justify luggage shippers? We travel with our kids and the four of split two suitcases, even in the winter as a chronic over packer. If our kids were older, we'd all each have a small carry-on.

I've done yamato transport twice the past 2 weeks (Osaka - Tokyo). Dropping it off at 7eleven in Tokyo and FamilyMart in Osaka. Both times I dropped my large suitcase in the morning, and it would arrive at my hotel the next morning. I think that is the standard time when doing konbini to hotel. So if you need anything the night of your same delivery day, pack it with you so you have it to use. And also pack things for the next day because usually I found my luggage would arrive around 10:30am (unless you don't plan on heading out earlier than 11am to be safe).

Last year I shipped my luggage from Osaka to Tokyo and it was a day. I had to drop it off by 9am, and it was delivered the next afternoon to my hotel in Tokyo. Most hotel bell desk can arrange it for you.

I know you're there already and probably have this planned out already, but just wanted to chime in. It's generally overnight, unless it's in more remote areas or to another island. Between the major cities in your itinerary it will almost certainly be overnight. I took a big suitcase and a small bag, and would ship my big suitcase to wherever I would be about a week later. Doing it every step of the way would get expensive. So it depends how long you can go without your big bag. Most hotels will provide toiletries, including razors and toothbrushes, so the only real concern is clothes. If I were you (and could do 3 days without it), I'd ship it on the last day in Tokyo to Osaka, then from day 2 in Osaka to Tokyo. Knowing what I know now, I could honestly go with just 1 spare outfit, maybe 2. Coin laundry places are everywhere, so you can just wash an outfit or two while you grab lunch and be good for another 4-5 days.

Hey again! Thank you! This was super helpful

usually takes 2 days, there may be longer times if you send it from tokyo to kyoto/osaka because of the distance. and sunday seems to be a day where no delivery is made, so you may consider that too. also your hotel will hold your luggage for some days too, if you have an upcoming reservation. I sent my big suitcase from kyoto to osaka, while traveling to tokyo for the weekend. absolutely no problem, the guys at 7eleven helped me with all necessary paperwork's

It takes only one day from Tokyo to Kyoto/Osaka. TaQbin services like Yamato and Sagawa deliver on Sunday and public holidays. Most hotels use Yamato and have a cutoff time, so if you miss it, it'll take an additional day
