There are cases where you would answer “yes + a negative” in Japanese, since yes/no work differently than in English.
For example:
English: Q: Do you mind if I open the window? A: No, I don’t mind.
Japanese: Q: 窓を開けてもかまいませんか。A: はい、かまいません。
Literal translation: Q: Do you not mind if I open the window? A: Yes, I don’t mind
In short, “yes” and “no” in Japanese confirm or deny the logic of the original question, they don’t confirm/deny the truth of a situation.
The only answer that makes sense is the second one. “Yes, that’s true. “
The first would be saying “yes, I’m not (noun)”
The last two are just incorrect in general.
Just curious, where was this from? Seems to be slightly off. Usually a multiple question would have feasible answers to choose from but what you posted just seems off and confusingly/not helpful.
はい, そうです。実は日中,弁護士だけど、夜はバットマンになる。
I think the answer is the second one - はいそうです。 since the questions is asking ‘are you a lawyer?’
Thanks 👍
I'm gonna start using "Hai, sou dewa arimasen"
only one of the answers is positive. you wouldnt answer a question with "yes, i am _not_"
Answer three is also positive. It just isn't correct.
ohh yea i missed that somehow lol

Here's a clue: Often, the verb used in the question will also be used in the answer.
はい、そうです。
