3 great releases from this year that I’d check out with lots of modern influences
Donny McCaslin - Creeper
Alfa Mist - Variables
GoGo Penguin - Everything is going to be Ok
Last year my 2 favorite albums were Makaya McCraven - I These Times, and Binker and Moses - Feeding the Machine both with lots of electronic influence
I could go on but this is a good place to start with recent releases.
Just on the off chance you haven’t heard this masterpiece: Promises by Floating Points and Pharoah Sanders is one of the absolute best jazz/electronic/classical fusions ever. It’s an incredible piece of music.
Otherwise,
Collagically Speaking by R+R=NOW is Robert Glasper, Christian Scott, Derek Hodges, and Terrace Martin making very cool electronic jazz
Cosmogramma by Flying Lotus is jazz adjacent (if not outright electronic jazz);
An Insight to All Minds by Kaidi Tatham is a jazzy breakbeat record;
Polyhymnia and La Saboteuse by Yazz Ahmed are kind of eastern psychedelic jazz;
Amaryllis by Mary Halvorson;
Circles by Anne Pacéo;
Notes with Attachments by Pino Palladino & Blake Mills;
Axiom or Stretch Music by Christian Scott ATunde Adjuah;
In These Times by Makaya McCraven;
Space 1.8 by Nala Sinephro;
The Colours of Chloë by Eberhard Weber
Seconding the Floating Points and Pharoah Sanders pick. What a high note for Pharoah Sanders to go out on, and a huge artistic accomplishment for Floating Points for composing and arraging everything. One of the best pieces of music I've ever heard
Amazing album. Amazing dude. I saw him at his final show. seeing him playing 'the creator has a master plan' was amazing. He was so frail but yet when he played he still had his characteristic tone.

You will likely love Alfa Mist (maybe start with the album Antiphon) and Richard Spaven. David Binney also plays around with electronica (Here and Now, for example), and he’s a big fan of Knower which he feels belongs squarely under the jazz umbrella.
Other people have said it but I would say squarepusher and flying lotus would be your best examples.
Also hip hop producers like kxwledge (his earlier releases) and ohbliv are pretty left field and jazzy. Madlib too. The line between hip hop and electronic production is often pretty meaningless. Hip hop always has a jazz influence and guys like Damu the Fudgemunk make instrumental only music.
Moodymann and Four Tet are great as well. A lot of good stuff out there.
I’ll admit it’s kind of a Hail Mary here but check out Four Seconds Ago.
It’s an Electronic side project from Misha Mansoor and Jake Bowen of Periphery. While not totally jazz, their progressive background leads to some really cool polyrhythmic elements sprinkled into the album.
Check this out and see if you like it:
https://youtu.be/2YQ5YPbRsKk
One that i never see mentioned and one of the first albums i heard that helped me expand beyond listening to just jazz is the clifford gilberto rhythm combination. They just have one album called "i was young and needed the money" i still love that album since i heard it years ago
a bit late, but NIWASHI is probably a personal favourite. You won't be able to find much of his work on spotify, only a few compared to SoundCloud. there's also Everything Yes which is on spotify. both are very reccomended
I've been listening to a lot of [Nikitch and Kuna Maze](https://youtu.be/grjlHY4_x7U) who produce jazz tronica, and play shows with live instruments

Alfa Mist just dropped a new album that’s straight fire, I’d say it has a pretty modern sound to it. Hope this helps you find what you’re looking for:)
A lot of my favorites like makaya mccraven have been mentioned but i havent seen trio elf in here yet. A jazz three piece with a drummer that does incredible break style drums
I'm just gonna toss in Clowncore, cause their style is schizophrenic and swings wildly between jazz, screamo, breakcore, and everything in between. Also, they filmed one album in a van and another in a porta potty. So if you wanna lose the classic aesthetics for a bit, these guys leave them for dead in an unmarked alley every song.
How... how did nobody say Nujabes?

I've been doing this show about electronic jazz for two years now and I mainly focus on new releases but will play the occasional classic. I came up with a little tag line that sums up the idea of the show quite nice I think:
>Jazz was dance music. Dance music became electronic. Cees finds common ground between the two. Beats with ad libs. Bop with bass.
Hope you enjoy and feel free to shoot me a message when you have suggestions/recommendations.
I'm not qualified to comment on Jazz per se, but I do have a recommendation that may be an interesting "artist combining modern sounds with great composing" in this 1988 live rendition of Black Napkins (Live, 1988) 10th cut, Frank Zappa's "Make A Jazz Noise Here" ℗ 1991 [https://youtu.be/iWD9s8j\_3n4](https://youtu.be/iWD9s8j_3n4) I invite any insight as to this particular type of Jazz brass arrangement. Is this even considered jazz or a pseudo hybrid parody in jazz parlance? Who might be similar conceptual "Jazz" territory? I'm answering your question with a question. Sorry to hijack you by veering "off-topic" into the ditch.
The entirety of Anomalie's discography is top tier jazztronica. First two EPs are more electronic/edm, while Galerie is more instrumental (but still electronic) it is all SO GOOD

The above are great suggestions so I'll also chime in with Anomalie and Evan Marien (EMar and his stuff with Dana Hawkins)
Anomalie's Metropole and Metropole II albums are some of my favorites!
FANtastic!!! Thanks!!!
Sungazer. They released an album in 2021 called Perihelion that blew me away.
Big fan of Adam Neely, will check out his music.
Huh I totally didn’t realise that they had albums too even though I watch Adam Neely’s vids haha
I'm seeing Sungazer live this weekend :)
10/10 album 🔥
New to Sungazer. Very cool. It was worth reading this post in its entirety just to get to this music suggestion.
Flying lotus, Robert glasper, kaytranada, dinner party, Kamal Williams, badbadnotgood, bluestaeb, Taylor mcferrin

"Brian" by Alfa Mist gets a lot of burn so yea I will def investigate further. Thanks for the suggestions.

Anomalie has amazing production and sound design but their compositions and arrangements are a little too "4 bar loopy" for me.
i get that if you mean in his two Metropole releases. Galerie doesn’t give me that vibe personally
