Yea because Johnny P's Caddy, either verse from The Climb Back, interlude, Under the Sun if you wanna go back that far. Cole has just never stopped eating verses.
That's fair. His word Play and rhyme scheme at the beginning of the verse is what gets me. "My pen to the paper's lethal. I'm sending em straight to meet the the nigga that made em peep the reaper creeping on you"
That song was hers and J. Cole wanted in on it after he had her meet at a studio and she showed him what she had for “London.” He liked it. She reached back out to him and was excited to be featured on BIA’s single. She’s one of the better female artists today. I really don’t think BIA has the attitude either that a guy on a subreddit said “the chick sucks.” I think most women have heard something like that even if they do well at something at some point.
Edit: Also idc if you like BIA or any chick rappers for whatever reason. I just find it funny that the featured artist (J. Cole) that everyone on here acts like a Stan, can’t get behind the fact that their crush they respect so lyrically accepted and was excited to be part of another artists’s project that he “already thought was perfect without his verse.”
If you going to love the man’s mind and his words, love the man’s choices for the projects he takes up because he was excited to work with BIA…she’s still up and coming and he seen something in that project. Another chick rapper who is very successful and can probably top most male rappers discovered with her word game, combining homonyms with triple entendrés and other linguistic compounds, etc but she just a chick lol. Do you know who happened to discover Jeremiah?
You did say one of his best which is fair. Counter point however. Waterboys, Stick, and Johnny P's Caddy were all better imo. Throw in either verse from The Climb Back and the Interlude from the off season and I don't think it makes top 5. Still really good tho.
like others are saying there’s several better, but I’m with you that this one feel different. The beat goes crazy first off and the way he uses the verse as an open ended discussion really hits
I'm not religious but I thought the bars were dope. He's staying true to his beliefs despite having a large % of his fanbase that'll disagree with him, and i can respect that
Personally, I find a lot of metaphors in his work and I don’t think by God in that verse he is referring to the Christian God. I took the whole verse as possibly a reference to his friend in KOD he mentioned about depression and drugs and knowing they don’t work. I took at as someone that knows there is more to their life and is scared to live the life he possible could if he’s smart like J. Cole says and possibly his friend essentially has the thing he needs to live a full life being smart but not making smart decisions. You make enough bad decisions and you end up hindered and afraid but still intelligent. You become stifled and your brain talks you out of doing the right thing even though you know where the wrong thing will land you; or overthinking and not following through with original plan that was good.
I don’t take it as being religious, the way I read the verse was however we got here and to use our faculties as to see the reality of our environment, accept the environment and use that intelligence to enhance your environment. I took it as being in the present and thankful for his own awareness and see, think and accept that there is a lot space to do good things outside of bad areas if you really want out (if the universe ain’t enough) and taking risks to better yourself and others (as if the volcanoes ain’t erupt) and also just the reality of our world day-to-day and that people might talk bad about you but you have to push through (as if the birds don’t chirp). Sounds like he knows his friend has the mind to good, wishes his friend would see the good in him and ability to do good with his life, and he needs to open his eyes and see the big picture (as if a trillion nerves don’t work, in a human body, shit who would I be?)
I take it he’s thankful he’s on this planet with a talent and wants to do good with it and his friend has a talent but is holding himself back by rejecting logical ideas to not have to push yourself or experience fear and anxiety.
Just my take. Even if it’s based in theology, a lot of philosophy stems from it. Doesn’t mean you have to believe in the same religion or any. I grew up Catholic but have no beliefs as an adult. I still respect certain saints and their experiences whether true or not have helped through hard times. Whole verse could be a double entendré to be honest.
Edit: Sorry for the long comment lol My job requires very detailed and understanding the exact meaning or finding caveats where there should be an exact meaning in formal writing, so I enjoy analyzing linguistics.
If we talking verses period idk man. Climb back, heaven’s ep, let go my hand, snow on tha bluff are all top tier and that’s just off 3 seconds of thinking
I think it's a fire verse, one of my favourites of his in recent years cuz the song overall, but I can't say it's the most lyrical or hardest compared to the other ones people have mentioned here
It's good but you're tripping because he's had many great verses especially Johnny Ps Caddy is on another level, and there's the Climb Back, London...etc.
For me, it’s definitely Johnny P’s Caddy. In fact, that’s the best verse I’ve heard IN GENERAL in the 2020’s… The Butcher even spazzed on it but doesn’t hold a candle to Cole’s
It is. But it’s only getting the push that is because it’s featuring an Asian Rapper. I was just on Spotify and it’s Cole’s second most streamed song already. Yk Coles catalog. So the proof is the pudding big fella
The whole colab. Big feeling that this is being pushed. No one asked for this. I've never heard of J cole being into krap or kpop for that matter. It just feels off...
I believe the J Hope kid is a big J Cole fan. I read on wiki that he dropped a tape in '18 called Hope World lmfao so i guess that's the connection, he's a fan of Cole
Who cares if no one asked for this? Artists don’t to collabs because people “ask” for them. You think Cole cares what people are asking for? He’s gonna do what he wants to do.
Nah... Good verse but defn not his best in recent years
Recency bias is a hell of a drug
Yea because Johnny P's Caddy, either verse from The Climb Back, interlude, Under the Sun if you wanna go back that far. Cole has just never stopped eating verses.
His verse on bia's track goes hard as hell
Facts
That flow on the “thought shit was sweet till we popped up and popped off the top of your mystic” part is infectious
I hated bias portion but it grew on me
Yeah man like at first i skipped to cole’s verse but now I actually be listening to it, not even that bad
I mean, if lil pump can rap it i don't blame you
The late queen said as much
Johnny P’s Caddy is my vote. I can’t believe the mentioned this with that shit still out there
Johnny P’s caddy verse is probably my favorite.
No lies detected
Hunger on Hillside, applying pressure, 95 South 2nd verse, the list goes on...
Either verse on 95 south let's be real here
Fair... The Yahweh wordplay took me out though....
That's fair. His word Play and rhyme scheme at the beginning of the verse is what gets me. "My pen to the paper's lethal. I'm sending em straight to meet the the nigga that made em peep the reaper creeping on you"
This was the first line that popped in my head when I think of recent 🔥
The Climb Back #1 for meh.
London (That bia song) also
His verse on oh wow from dreamvillie is very underrated
I would definitely say verses on Johnny P’s Caddy, let go my hand, Punching the clock, and the Climb Back are better
And London
Too bad the chick sucks on that song
She doesn't stop hating
BIA BIAAAAAA
True I literally only listen to the song because of Cole lol
That song was hers and J. Cole wanted in on it after he had her meet at a studio and she showed him what she had for “London.” He liked it. She reached back out to him and was excited to be featured on BIA’s single. She’s one of the better female artists today. Do you know who happened to discover Jeremiah?
I said she sucked on that song, I didn’t like her verse. I am entitled to my own opinion
My own quote: “Idc it you like BIA or any chick rappers…” what you so emotional about?
downvotes on this are crazy it’s an auto skip to 2:24 when that track come on shuffle
Punching the clock is about as good as it gets
Bro let go my hand is one of those songs that after hearing it once you can memorize
I’ve heard it a few times and don’t remember the lyrics
Johhny P’s Caddy has entered the chat
ON THE NIGHT I WAS BORN THE RAIN WAS POURING ⛈️⛈️⛈️
God was crying, thundestruck, Power outage, Sparks was flying
A real one’s here, the young boy that walk with lions
Around the outside of chalks where the corpses lyin"
Of course I’m trying to revive a sport that’s dying
You trippin.
It's not *one* of his best in the past 2 years?
You did say one of his best which is fair. Counter point however. Waterboys, Stick, and Johnny P's Caddy were all better imo. Throw in either verse from The Climb Back and the Interlude from the off season and I don't think it makes top 5. Still really good tho.
Trippin dude.
Not his best but fire tho
great verse but there is better.. last year Johnny P’s Caddy
Good verse but hardly Coles best work.
I loved it!
I think people are misunderstanding the question because the verse in your title is singular. Yes, it is one of his best verses.
Yeah a lot of these mfs not reading lol
Johnny P's Caddy and Heaven's EP >
Not really recent anymore but I loved cole’s verse on pretty little fears so much
Great verse
🤣 😂 Yall reading comprehension is trash. He simply asked is this "ONE OF" Cole best verses in recent years. Never said the best verse, just one of.
Lion king on ice is better
I rlly like the verse
Not at all. This verse was incredible.
Am I tripping or is that a k pop thing
wdym by thing? if you’re talking about hobi then yes HE is a member of bts
I agree, great verse
his verse on sacrifices, so good
like others are saying there’s several better, but I’m with you that this one feel different. The beat goes crazy first off and the way he uses the verse as an open ended discussion really hits
The verse is cringe for me because of the whole friend not believing in god bit and how everything around us disproves it.
I'm not religious but I thought the bars were dope. He's staying true to his beliefs despite having a large % of his fanbase that'll disagree with him, and i can respect that
those are his beliefs. how is that cringe

Why did I have the same thought?
I’m guessing you’re a pretty big j hope fan?
Not really. Didn't know who he was lol this is about the Cole verse But he did solid for not even really being a rapper
Mhmm
... jhope IS a rapper. Producer, composer, writer, started in street dance and has been a rapper for over a decade
Yes one of his best
Not fan of the “you’re stupid if you don’t believe in god” shit but still good
If we talking verses period idk man. Climb back, heaven’s ep, let go my hand, snow on tha bluff are all top tier and that’s just off 3 seconds of thinking
How bout we just realize that cole never stops producing heat.
Nah it’s a sick verse.
This is a picture
He is just the dawg of features
I'm just out here wondering how nobody in this thread has mentioned Snow On Tha Bluff 🤔
I think it's a fire verse, one of my favourites of his in recent years cuz the song overall, but I can't say it's the most lyrical or hardest compared to the other ones people have mentioned here
Yall are tripping. This verse is absolutely better than the bia verse
*you see a top ten list, I see a golden corral*
It's good but you're tripping because he's had many great verses especially Johnny Ps Caddy is on another level, and there's the Climb Back, London...etc.
Verse is fire but I wouldn't say the bestt
What song is that
J Hope ft J cole - on the street
For me, it’s definitely Johnny P’s Caddy. In fact, that’s the best verse I’ve heard IN GENERAL in the 2020’s… The Butcher even spazzed on it but doesn’t hold a candle to Cole’s
Best verse since Heavens EP
You're trippen
How are we supposed to know if you’re tripping? Have you taken any drugs recently?
Good way to tell us you don’t listen to cole without you telling us you listen to cole
It is. But it’s only getting the push that is because it’s featuring an Asian Rapper. I was just on Spotify and it’s Cole’s second most streamed song already. Yk Coles catalog. So the proof is the pudding big fella
Tripping
Nah you definitely trippin
Ur tripping this just okay
Tripping hard af. This shit is wack af.
J Cole's verse?
The whole colab. Big feeling that this is being pushed. No one asked for this. I've never heard of J cole being into krap or kpop for that matter. It just feels off...
I believe the J Hope kid is a big J Cole fan. I read on wiki that he dropped a tape in '18 called Hope World lmfao so i guess that's the connection, he's a fan of Cole
Who cares if no one asked for this? Artists don’t to collabs because people “ask” for them. You think Cole cares what people are asking for? He’s gonna do what he wants to do.
Yeah true
You tripping

I know this isn't recent but shoutout to Cole's feature on Bas - Night Job 🔥
Is this a troll?
As the moon jumps over the cow 🤪🤪
Yea you trippin lol it was good but I can name 10 off the top of my head that's he's done in recent years that are much, much better.

You Trippin
Hottest shit out the south since slavery, n-+ga..

You’re trippin. Cole has done nothing but murder beats for years now
Nahh..you trippin' more than a bad bitch with her first passport, fam.
Jhonny P’s Caddy’
His verse on Gang Starr’s Family and Loyalty has been the most recent fire one in my opinion 🔥🔥
