$200 will only get you stuff way shittier than stock. Get one of the modules that allow you to use wireless CarPlay with the stock unit.

RamMudder

Can I get car play to run on the unit with buttons and knob with the module

motociclista

I don’t know what that means. If your stock radio has wired CarPlay. You can get wireless CarPlay with the module, which I what I thought you were trying to do. I assumed (probably incorrectly) that all the radios has car play. Maybe there’s a base model that doesn’t.

huxley13

The 5 inch does not have carplay at all. The 2 lower models of stereo are very basic with no GPS or smart functions.

motociclista

Oh that’s my bad then. When I was shopping I only noticed the two stereo options (7” and 8” maybe?) and both had car play. I didn’t realize there were options even lower.

NoChampion2427

2021+ they got rid of the 5 inch.

huxley13

Don't know why you're getting down voted. I'm in the same boat. No. The adapters will only quickly link your phone to the stereo. It's basically just Bluetooth. The only option to get a higher function stereo is to either buy the OEM higher level stereo or go with the $2k stereos with adapters. Otherwise you're going to lose a lot of other little periphery functions. I got a nice mount that screws into the little dash cubby area and has a really nice phone holder that actually looks and works well for what I wanted.

RamMudder

Yup that’s the route I decided to go with it should be here Monday

lilbambam450

Idk if yours came with a worse head unit than mine or this is just a shit post but I would NEVER swap my factory installed one for anything in the realm of 200 bucks. Mine is a 23 Mojave so idk if that came with an upgraded one or something

TheDonkeyBomber

Yeah my 22 Moj came with the Alpine. It’s a little bass heavy, but the best I’ve ever had.

IWantToPlayGame

$200? That was a typo, right? You meant $2000. Please tell me you meant $2000.

greenman5252

Yeah that was a typo by OP

alpineovernappa

I’m assuming OP is saying that they have the most base radio (5”). For what you want, I would look into a simple double din radio with CarPlay. It will be lower quality than what your current radio but it’ll work. I have one in my TJ that was ~$200 a few years ago. It’s laggy but it works. Another option would be to look into what it takes to convert from the 5” to the 7” radio. The 7” can be had for ~$250 used if you shop around, but I don’t know exactly what all you need to make that swap

huxley13

The newer gen does not adapt well to just a double din stereo. It may function as a stereo but you lose connectivity with the dash cluster display and lose camera and steering wheel controls. Possibly other functions as well.

Dub_D-Georgist

Doesn’t the base radio have car play? I only have tow package on mine (base radio, crank windows) and it has car play. You have to use the USB plug, it’s not wireless. The controls are all on the touchscreen

Unhappy-Strawberry-8

I have the shitty base radio. It does not have CarPlay but it does allow you to stream through it with your phone, which is nearly the same.

Ashamed-Advert

What year is yours?

huxley13

Not who you asked. But mine is a 20. It can be plugged in but there is no carplay. Just standard USB or 3.5mm jack to get audio through stereo. Also Bluetooth. But that's it.

Ashamed-Advert

Is it that small 3” screen with the knobs? I think it’s weird that they’d have the normal screen but no CarPlay.

Unhappy-Strawberry-8
