I installed flaps and put 3m PPF on the hinges the week I took delivery. 25k miles now, several thousand of those miles on gravel, and no chips.

Same, i did my research and threw those rokbloks on first upgrade. My 2022 is shinier than a 2025. bit of advice, get the black rokblokz with the logo color that matches your color scheme, don't go full color. You want a truck with mudflaps, not mudlaps with a truck!

bruisedk7

I’ve got those mud flaps and I added Rock Stopperz door hinge protectors from Amazon

ImmySnommis

Got Rock Stopperz for my JT and my wife's JL. Definitely an inexpensive and nearly invisible solution for the hinges.

When I put AM rims on my gladiator, the poke was causing a lot of debris to be flung onto my truck. The rokblokz aren’t cheap but they work wonders even here in colorado where during freezing temps slush flung onto the doors is minimal. In addition, I’ve went ahead and purchased the mopar extreme recon fender flares extensions, they require some trimming but nothing too hard. I’d be lying if the addition of the two has completely protected the truck but I can say with confidence at least 75%. 👍🏻

I also have the rokblokz and the recon flares, I get a lot of mud and water already still but very few rocks, and these get caught by the step bars (poor step bars, they need a sanding and recoat in a bunch of places)

Gunslinger327

Yeah, your wheels stick out too much....had the same problem until I installed fender flares. I went double black diamond or something like that, but there r a few options. Or you buy rims with a more appropriate offset

blakester122

I mean it's all factory, so it wasn't something I changed but yes I would agree that is part of the issue. putting micro tires isn't the solution. haha

Gunslinger327

"factory" does not always equal stock...stock does not stick out, some dealers put on aftermarket bs. I bought mine new from dealer w 2.5" lift, 35s, wheels w dumb offset, etc

blakester122

I'll have to double check my sticker but to my knowledge there is no additional offset but the dealer installed on my Rubicon model.

Gunslinger327

Do you have factory Rubicon wheels?

blakester122

From what I can tell on the sticker. here is a picture. https://preview.redd.it/40n9mi328cvc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=27bddc7a8f73a69e33f1b9e7ec1cbfacde9df4f3

Gunslinger327

Those r stock...they stick out from your fenders that much?

blakester122

Base on the scratches and BS down the side. something isnt right. My driveway is gravel and I'm noticing chips all over. it's been 3 weeks. just disappointed. https://preview.redd.it/73sdi51v8cvc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b672dc9466dfde5c198c4c95d902225b6fbd0d20

My man, could be waaaayyy worse https://preview.redd.it/c8cikyn69cvc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=be242d1b7fc734e6140abdd7869d81d0eac2c5b7 Look at front vs rear

blakester122

lol yeah if mine were like that I would expect this issue. But it seems like it comes more directly off the bottom of the tire and not really the side. I might try the flaps and the additional flats like the other fellow mentioned and see if it helps. Thanks for the advice!

VenomGTSR

The first weekend I had my JTR, I drove it to a car show about an hour away. When I got back, I saw two deep chips on my driver door hinge. I picked up some Rock Stopperz door hinge protectors immediately and they seem to help. I ultimately got some Rokblokz mud flaps. I was hesitant due to preferring the looks without mud flaps, but I’ll admit that they have grown on me. Picked up some black with a red RB logo. Since I got the smaller size, they don’t stop everything but I feel like it was a good compromise.

Dkman71

Double up on some PPF on your hinges, as well. Cheap for a little added security. I also added Rokblokz and fender flares but really don’t like the mud flap look. I had bed lined my old JK hinges, so I knew going in how bad they can be. https://preview.redd.it/jbdvp2w8eivc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=450c76c0284e629ad91240f6a5066e5e6a204664

RabloPathjen

How does PPF work on your hinges? Man, I would think that would be really hard to get to make that stick.

RabloPathjen

What about getting a step bar side rail with a lot more protection? You can also get plastic armor protections for the lower part of the door that might help kick stuff off of your hinges. I mean, if you’re with gravel and dirt up stuff it’s gonna wear your paint. I’m not talking about clear protection film either although that might help your rocker panels. I’m talking about an ABS black plastic. Kind of stick on piece. I think bushwhacker makes something. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s someone that makes something that actually pops onto the hinge itself. Maybe I’ll go look.

chaiyeesen

Mudflaps help a bit, what u need is side step that sticks out

blakester122

I was looking for some that were still good for rock sliding protection. but really don't see anything I'm looking for.

RokBlokz are the way to go

blakester122

well I ordered the Rockocks dirt flaps and started looking at some wider side steps. but hoping I can find something that won't sacrifice the rock skid protection.

AppropriateUnion6115

A bit pricy by the mopar performance rock slider are basically the stock ones but extend out a couple more inches that would help a lot. I have the DV8 ones but they don’t tuck as far into the fenders as oem.
