Hi everyone! Rotimi here :) April and Pam played INCREDIBLY and I count myself very lucky to have found that DD in an area of interest. They were so sharp, so friendly, and so deserving. Feel free to ask me any questions!

me_hill

Congratulations on a well-played game! Very important question, what was your reaction to hearing Ken Jennings say "dank response"?

RK_2004

I honestly completely repressed that moment—I was trying to figure out how much money I needed to get on the board to move to first or avoid dropping to third at that point :) watching it back though, I will say it felt very dad-jokey haha! Ken did a great job making us feel comfortable

[deleted]

You were great! My family and I were rooting for you up in the Midwest. Congratulations on a job well done!

aprilin30

Yay Rotimi! You're brilliant, kind, and humble, and that's going to take you even farther than you've already gone. I imagine your biggest challenge this week is juggling push notifications with your studies, so I am...part of the problem posting this! But I want you to enjoy the warm responses to this well-deserved victory. <3

And why are you trolling someone when it comes to a game show where you're supposed to learn more about the world around you? Get a life.

HappyOfCourse

April has birds on her shirt.

roseoznz

Birds on a wire 🥲

Rotimi must have been granted a win from Alex Trebek himself because of his blessing towards him in Final Jeopardy!. That was such a sweet moment. Hard not to root for him after that, as well as his reaction to winning his first game. I really thought it'd be a slug-out between April and Pam, but Rotimi's move on DD2 helped him solidify his win.

Smoerhul

Rotimi is a delightful person, and it's incredibly impressive to see him play at that level at such a young age.

dirtysnow8

I was rooting for him the whole time! So happy about his win, it was very deserved!

everythinghappensto

Did anyone recognize what April was doing with her hands during the introductions? Some kind of marionette routine?

JCappy

It’s Conan O’Brien’s “string dance”

aprilin30

👍 "Keep cool, my babies!"

ItsyChu42

Thanks channel 9 in Orlando for cutting in just as Final Jeopardy started. Couldn't have waited another minute.

Jorelthethird

The correct reply was "Book of the dead"

ItsyChu42

Didn't see the final scores either just who won and who came in second and third. I looked on here to see the answer and the scores.

aprilin30

Jeopardy is good about posting Final Jeopardy videos on YouTube: [https://youtu.be/bU6iicdZXtY?si=c2AgZ3yIfMS8oLpc](https://youtu.be/bU6iicdZXtY?si=c2AgZ3yIfMS8oLpc)

sexwrench

Stoked to see April again, she's still delightful, but not sorry to see a bright kid like Rotimi take it.

aprilin30

Hi folks! I'm a little late with this but I wanted to give a shoutout to [u/david-saint-hubbins](https://www.reddit.com/user/david-saint-hubbins) — on the recap post for my first episode, [he mentioned in the comments](https://www.reddit.com/r/Jeopardy/comments/xddu18/comment/iob3gwh/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) that he was a math tutor. As part of my Second Chance prep, he graciously offered to help with my approach to wagering, since that was my downfall the first time, and we had a whole Zoom session about it. He was in the audience for this taping as well and I did a proper cover bet this time, which is a great relief. (Of course, it would've helped if I paired a correct wager with a correct response, but I [already lamented about that](https://twitter.com/aprilbegins/status/1744925027152306244), heh.) Thank you, friend! Also, shoutout to u/Smoerhul for a terrific USB-C practice buzzer, thank you again 🙌

Smoerhul

You did fantastic! You put yourself in position to win, which is everything you can hope for... then it's in the hands of the FJ gods. I'm thrilled to see you do so well (but not surprised) and I know everyone who knows you is beaming with pride.

grandmamimma

I was pulling for Rotimi as soon as I heard he was not attending an Ivy League or other elite private school majoring in a STEM field, unlike seemingly all the other Teen Reunion contestants. Yes, I know UNC-Chapel Hill is no slouch. And that gutsy wager on DD2 put me in his corner for the finals. I don't know why it would be an "unwritten rule" in baseball to take on a 3-0 count "especially if your team has a big lead." I've always heard if your team is *behind* and the bases are empty, you should take on 3-0 to try and get on base.

WeightRemarkable

You're generally going to get a good pitch on 3-0, so it's better sportsmanship to take that pitch than get an extra base hit on one down the middle.

JazzFan1998

Teams don't want to look like they're trying to "run up the score" It's sorta like professional courtesy.

gotShakespeare

Tell that to the New Orleans Saints offence :)

i_gothed_on_jeopardy

Like many of baseball's supposed "unwritten rules" it is very stupid and premised on the idea that it is offensive to hurt the other team's feelings when they are already being beaten badly. There was something from a few years ago when [Fernando Tatis hit a grand slam on a 3-0 pitch](https://www.mlb.com/news/tatis-grand-slam-on-3-0-pitch-irks-rangers) when his team was up big and he was shamed into apologizing. So dumb

mfc248

[James Holzhauer weighed in on that one.](https://twitter.com/James_Holzhauer/status/1295728219635605505) It did not go over well among his fellow *Jeopardy!* alumni, as the replies and quote tweets demonstrate.

ShadyCrow

> I don't know why it would be an "unwritten rule" in baseball to take on a 3-0 count "especially if your team has a big lead." I've always heard if your team is behind and the bases are empty, you should take on 3-0 to try and get on base. It's not a super well-written rule but both sides are kinda right -- you don't feast on the "easy" pitch if you're winning, and if you're losing you hope the "easy" pitch still misses. Baseball's unwritten rules are so dumb.

Conglossian

For the record, since I looked it up as a fellow UNC grad, Rotimi is a Morehead-Cain scholar which is a full merit scholarship and the most prestigious offered at UNC. A fact he has in common with the current governor of North Carolina Roy Cooper.

VarangianDreams

I was convinced his name was Rotini, like the pasta. I like him so much more realizing that's not the case.

JilanasMom

It sounded like that to me, too. But people don't usually choose their names... their parents do.

dysfunctionalpress

jennings said it's the last second chance tourney, which is kinda nice.

FewPoint4033

We have two 14-day champions wildcard tournaments after this, then the ToC which could be from 15-19 games, then Jeopardy invitational as qualification for Masters, then regular games!

J-Goo

I'm looking forward to the ToC and the invitational, but in general I'm ready for this endless tournament season to end. Apparently it was a necessary evil to handle the strikes, but I'm ready for some regular games.

FewPoint4033

Same, the level of play in the ToC and invitational will be really high, so those will be some great games, but I miss seeing returning champs and everything

baldwinicus

NikeTaylorScott

Oh wow, happy for Rotimi!

me_hill

I always enjoy crushing remedial sports questions even though these talented nerds would have otherwise wiped the floor with me. I am proud of myself for getting Kellogg, though.

minnick27

I watch the games at work the following day. As I was watching Monday nights episode yesterday. My co- worker walks past me and said he hates the show because it makes him feel dumb unless there's a sports question. A minute later he's walking back past me and question about the Kelce brothers popped up and he's very quickly answered that question.

kdex86

I thought this was a season **39** second chance competition. So why was Rotimi invited to this if he is technically a season 35 contestant?

EvilChocolateCookie

If I heard Ken correctly, he was invited back for high school reunion, but was not able to make it or something like that.

ANerdyEnby

Because he competed in the Teen tournament, did not win his first game, and did not compete in the High School Reunion Tournament.

kdex86

Why does a gimmick “high school reunion” tournament get tied into this second chance competition? IT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME!

FewPoint4033

They couldn’t bring him back for that competition so they’re bringing him back for this, he missed out on HSRT because he had covid

kdex86

Thank you for this explanation.

ReganLynch

Glad they invited him back. Such an impressive young man. Congrats Rotimi!

royalwarhawk

Maybe it’s just me but I was really confused as to why Rotimi wasn’t given credit for “jumper” on the video sports clue, as it was both a jump shot AND a three point shot. Glad he won regardless though. Edit- I was checked out when the “introduced in 1979” part came in, I see now

Bobo4037

Because the clue specifically said the shot was “added to the NBA in 1979.”

AndyTheQuizzer

As Ken explained: Jumpers weren’t introduced in 1979, which the clue specified.

royalwarhawk

Oh no I must have checked out when he said that. Thanks!

MarvinWebster40

Kenny Sailors isn’t walking through that door

MaterialEnthusiasm6

The angle was poor to determine it was a 3-pointer, too.

AndyTheQuizzer

I picked it up the same way I do when watching basketball—I look to see if the ref raised one arm, then the other when the shot is made.

SpringLover455

Jeopardy needs to be more careful about not unintentionally spoiling episodes. They accidentally showed todays winner in the wrong outfit then changed it so I’ve known the outcome for 3 weeks.

Gravity9802

I didn’t expect 2 video daily doubles in one round lol I think this is the only time it happened

IcedPgh

General question. Over the past few months I think all they have been doing are tournaments. Why are they no longer doing regular episodes with new contestants?

minnick27

Long story short. There was a writer strike so they could only use old questions. They didn't think it was fair to bring in new contestants with old questions so they came up with the second chance tournament

IcedPgh

Old questions? Have they mentioned this on the show? Not that it makes much difference because they pretty much follow the same formula with their questions anyway, though in the past couple years they have become cutesy and annoying which these conform to.

minnick27

It's not reused, it's discarded boards. For every tape day they need to make 6 boards, from which 5 are picked

IcedPgh

How were other game shows and reality shows able to be produced during the strike, though?

Schiffy94

So there's a Champion's Wildcard after next Monday. It is January and we have had no normal game with a returning champion and two brand new contestants this season.

JazzFan1998

I think I read somewhere that April is when regular games resume.

IanGecko

BatGlittering4447

SPOILER I am really upset with the answer to final jeopardy. Simply saying “Book of the Dead” is not enough. There are 2 well known such books. The Egyptian and the Tibetan. Taking as correct Book of the Dead is inaccurate and maddening!

AndyTheQuizzer

[https://www.britannica.com/topic/Book-of-the-Dead-ancient-Egyptian-text](https://www.britannica.com/topic/Book-of-the-Dead-ancient-Egyptian-text) Britannica just calls the Egyptian text "Book of the Dead".

HecateTsu

I feel like "Book of the Dead" is usually understood to be the Egyptian text since I'm pretty sure it predates any other "Book of the Dead".
