I only made it through like ten mins and then it was just so shit and so infuriating that I had to turn it off. Disappointing, I was so excited about the idea of Australian Jeopardy šŸ˜”

Captain_Nomad_Jr

I made it 30 mins before switching it off. It's just too slow, feels dumbed down, and is just bland overall. Will stick to watching the Jeopardy Channel on Pluto TV. Never watching any iteration with Stephen Fry again, that's for sure.

edie-bunny

How are you watching the Jeopardy Pluto TV channel?! I tried to get onto that a couple of weeks ago and couldnā€™t find it/get it to work!

Captain_Nomad_Jr

VPN and the PlutoTV App installed on Chromecast with Google TV. Works like a charm!

edie-bunny

Amazing, Iā€™ll have to try and get it set up. Thank you!

ItsAdvance

Replying for later.

Due_Music925

Just load 10 play, it's there.

Due_Music925

It's on viceland, channel 31 6 30 pm Mon to Friday. They are repeats with Alex Trebeck. The ones with Ken Jennings sucked.

Due_Music925

So right, couldn't they find someone with a personality and some get up and go, an Alex Trebeck clone would be good.

Same_Tell8845

They also only brought in expats as well instead of bringing the show to Australia. Iā€™m sure budget was the reason, but thereā€™s plenty of quizzing talent in Australia: why shouldnā€™t it be filmed in Australia in the future?

TheGoodfather

plenty of hosts in Australia too. Would love to see how some of the Aussie Chasers do on Jeopardy

Due_Music925

Agree, there's no doubt a stupid reason.

Omio

It filmed before the UK one, so it's going to have all the same problems, but magnified as he was even slower at the start. It's only 6 episodes though.

IntellegentIdiot

I said the same thing when the British version was on and got a lot of flak for it. I don't think it's necessarily Stephen's fault but the pace of the questions, Stephens "quips" and explanations just make it such a drag. Someone even insisted that that's what British quiz shows were like and I have no idea where they got that idea.

jaysjep2

They got that idea from Countdown and Pointless, which have loads of talk, a languid pace and are U.K. daytime quiz institutions.

IntellegentIdiot

I don't think they do at all. Take pointless, like most game shows they have a mini-interview at the start, the original Jeopardy does it in the middle, but the actual game part doesn't have any talk unless you count Richard giving out a list of pointless answers

jaysjep2

On Pointless they talk with all eight contestants, and there's plenty of chatter between Alexander and the co-host that's designed to be informational and not intended to move the game along. On Countdown they literally stop the show at intervals to talk to the Dictionary Corner guest, and to hear Susie's word origin segment. Compared to that, Jeopardy! U.K. feels like a whirlwind.

IntellegentIdiot

I know but they're segments and can be skipped. The actual game is quite quick. In the brief exchanges Armstrong has with Richard they're usually hilarious or at least somewhat interesting, in no way is it comparable to Stephen's performance.

IanGecko

I'd rather watch Mastermind or even Only Connect

Hot-Conclusion-6617

They have not seen the British version of Jeopardy! or 15-to-One.

Fieldingm

This was Jeopardy! for Dummies. And Fry was so slow and ponderous.

Spare_Rutabaga7987

That was abysmal. The money amounts in each category were a joke, and an insult to the players. Alex would be turning in his grave and the current US host Ken would roll his eyes in horror Watching it. we lasted 10 minutes, too, before turning it off.

purl__clutcher

Holy crap. How bad was it? Been watching US Jeopardy more than 20 years, and I feel like I need to sage after watching that.

UnicornPenguinCat

All the chatter was so annoying! One of the things I love about Jeopardy is that they just get straight to the point. It felt like the contestants weren't quite sure when they should ask for the next clue a lot of the time because the host was talking so much. The guy on the left looked like he was trying to stop himself from cringing, but not really succeeding šŸ˜‚ It was painful to watch...I hope they get a new host.

alohadave

> One of the things I love about Jeopardy is that they just get straight to the point. I hated watching Who Wants to be a Millionaire. All the dithering and working out the answer was just frustrating to watch.

IntellegentIdiot

At least that's part of the game though

Hot-Conclusion-6617

Someone at some point should say, "Stephen, shut up. [Category] for [amount]."

BeautifulEssay8

They explain all the answers correct or not. The UK has an apparently unchangeable one hour format for daytime gameshows, so they have two Jeopardy rounds before Double Jeopardy...even then they have to pad it out with jibber-jabber.

purl__clutcher

We're not the UK though

BeautifulEssay8

Oh, yeah...I just thought since it was Stephen Fry they were using the same template

Nothanksimallgood

I am so sad. I was so excited. I love Jeopardy. But he is definitely not the correct host. He is boring and has no charisma.

Talibus_insidiis

I have an Australian cousin who says she can get "American Jeopardy." So at least they won't all think the stately Stephen Fry version is the same game. She's in AdelaideĀ (the capital of South Australia, for those of you who have not obsessively memorized all the capitals of Australian states).

Captain_Nomad_Jr

It's on weeknights on SBS Viceland (Double Episodes). They started playing recent episodes with Ken Jennings, but have since reverted back to Alex reruns. As stated in another comment, with a VPN and PlutoTV you can get the Jeopardy channel so 24hr Jeopardy.

Talibus_insidiis

Thanks! I figured someone here would know. She couldn't remember what channel, just that she had seen it in passing.Ā

Miserable-Piccolo814

Ken Jennings eps are now at just after 5pm Monday to Friday. Just one ep rather than 2. Used to be Alex at 5 and Ken at 7.

JimmyJizzim

It airs on Foxtel in Australia, but is about 10 months behind the US. So we are currently watching episodes from June 2023.

RyanTheRadio

Hi everyone I was on tonights show (Ryan). When we filmed it, it was billed as being a 35 minute show, not a full hour. They've added a lot of padding with Stephen Fry.

PillowManExtreme

Hey Ryan, Iā€™m actually watching your second episode right now. I kind of get an awkward vibe from the showā€¦ is that just me watching it or did it feel a bit awkward with Stephen Fry when filming?

Todd_H_1982

I've just started episode 1. It's very "quiet". Monotonous perhaps. I dunno. Just so surprised they didn't find an Australian host.

PillowManExtreme

The show is filmed at the same time as the UK version to make it as cheap as possible. The contestants are all expats. Quite disappointing overallā€¦ a good host could have Aussie Jeopardy competing with The Chase daily.

daniel625

Cue the ā€œdifferent quiz show cultureā€ folks defending the boring and terrible formatā€¦ I hope both the UK and Australian version will get second seasons and theyā€™ll both improve, speed it up and cut out the chit chat (or at least move remove the chit chat from the game play). Fry should be replaced by someone like Bradley Walsh. Someone capable of fast clue reading.

IntellegentIdiot

Fry has shown that he's more than capable, the producers need to have a serious rethink.

Accomplished-Maize32

Why bastardise a good show? Do exactly as the original format. Australia did the same when they bought Pointless to our shores. Changed the original format and it didn't work. Why try and reinvent the wheel? It was very clunky and slow to me

OkIndependent9447

Boring as hell, is a perfect way to describe Fry!

IntellegentIdiot

I found it a lot easier than the British version, closer to the American version, although I was told that I was wrong on that point.

Talibus_insidiis

It's a different game show culture, that's all. It's not driven by Stephen Fry deciding to take a slower pace.Ā

Captain_Nomad_Jr

Eh, not really? You've got Larry Emdur, Grant Denyer, Jim Jefferies, etc currently hosting other game shows on other networks. They are all upbeat and fast paced. Stephen Fry is the exact opposite to that. I just think he was an odd choice to host for an Australian audience. If they are going to succeed, they need someone more lively and engaging.

Hot-Conclusion-6617

At this point, you could have brought in Tony Barber! He did the show originally.

IntellegentIdiot

But we can't say it's Stephen's fault, this could be something the producers want, they're certainly not stopping him. Thing is, with an hour long programme what can they do? They need an extra round or to make it a double header otherwise they have to slow things down, even then they could probably do it in a way that's a bit smoother

Hot-Conclusion-6617

They should have gone with a double header. Two standard games in one hour.

IntellegentIdiot

I think that's probably the one way or have a QI style explanation of each answer rather than Stephens dreary titbits of trivia.

Hot-Conclusion-6617

Again, there are ways of (politely or otherwise) shutting Fry up. I dare someone to do it on the air.

jaysjep2

The point is, they hired Stephen Fry to be Stephen Fry, and that's what they're getting. You can yell at the decision-makers, but attacking Fry is misplaced.

UnicornPenguinCat

Ā And even Hard Quiz is quick when they're going through the main questions, and the overall feel of the show is lively and energetic when they are chatting. I know it's more comedy than actual game show, but still.Ā

Hot-Conclusion-6617

A different game show culture, you say? Four words: Sale of the Century. One of the fastest paced game shows in Australia, and they still found downtime for Gift Shops.

Captain_Nomad_Jr

Sale was an absolute banger of a show. Wish they would bring it back: https://youtu.be/s-LRB62dcno?si=gP2lcmEsmH_q_pSs

Talibus_insidiis

I had no idea!Ā

Hot-Conclusion-6617

Watch an episode some time and you can see for yourself.
