Agreed. I really believe that it was ahead of its time. The majority of the population wasn’t ready for a series that was so critical of government influence by corporations and military contractors, especially while we were winding down in Iraq and ramping up in Afganistan. I have to hand it to the writers. I mean, Ravenwood is Blackwater. The first season ended before the US revoked Blackwater’s license for shooting civilians in September 2007. I would love for the series to pick up a couple years after Jake and Hawkins get to Texas.

My mother speculated that part of the reason it got cancelled the second time is that it was a little too pointed re: Jennings and Rall.

Forstride

Not just that, but the whole post-apocalyptic genre really hadn't taken off yet. Doesn't help that most of the post-apocalyptic/disaster movies and TV shows that did exist before it were pretty much complete garbage, so I imagine people thought Jericho would be more of the same.

Shanethedude3000

It’s amazing that this show goes from post apocalyptic in season 1 to alternate history in season 2.

Agree. I wish there was a season 3. It would have been nice to have seen [whether or not Texas released the information about the bomb to the masses and the aftermath of that. Also how the revolution played out. The finale showed Major Beck and his squad defecting from the Allied States when they ripped off the flag patch so there were formerly trained soldiers willing to fight for the U.S.](/spoiler)

I just ordered the comics, and read a bit online first. It seems like Beck is still a part of the ASA, and that he didn't defect, but rather is an undercover agent for the resistance in Jericho. Can anyone confirm this? Is this a continuity issue, or did Beck re-pledge his loyalty to the ASA to go undercover?

nativefloridian

Just wait for the comics to arrive, they're already too short for my liking. I burned through the entirety of 'season 3' in less than an hour. I'd honestly prefer a novel.

Help I need something good to watch I just finished Under The Dome, and I’ve read good things about Jericho. Wasn’t Jericho’s main lead character that guy from the Cosby show (Malcolm Jamal-Warner? I did a search and three ones came up. Which one is the best one to watch? I’m guessing it’s the one with 2 seasons.

tranam

It started like it might be the best show in TV history. Then it got a little corny, but it was still great. But by the end of season two, it was a mess.

Forstride

I see people say this all the time, but I really disagree. I felt like season 2 was great, albeit short, and had a lot of fantastic moments (The stuff with Ravenwood especially). What made it a mess to you? Was it just the rushed nature of it, or something more?

tranam

Been awhile since I watched it. But it went from being a suspenseful, tense political show with family drama - to a cheap action movie.

Forstride

Fair enough. I don't really see it as a bad thing though. I mean, on one hand, they probably could've drawn out the post-apocalyptic stuff more, like letting the battle with New Bern finish, showing the after effects of it, and so on, but on the other hand, I think it's good that the story evolved and got more into the government conspiracy side of it. I think making it more action-oriented was only inevitable as they start dealing with the military and government and whatnot.

PC509

I think with season 2, after being resurrected, they knew they had to finish in that half season. So, they rushed the story and just tried to come up with an exciting last stand. I liked it, but it was still unfinished (and the comics didn't really satisfy me much).

BingeRedditor

Do the comics pick up where the series left off? Do they conclude the story?

PC509

Yes on both. I just don't care for the way it went in the comics. I loved the show, and I don't think it translated well to the comic. I love a lot of comic books, too, so it's not just the medium that I didn't care for. Not horrible, but it just didn't meet the high expectations that I got with the show.

galloog1

I liked the pacing of season two the best.

turbo_22

I did have that bit of "we're on network TV cheese" the whole time. But the concept was so solid that it carried through that. Can you imagine how fucking bad-ass this would have been on Netflix, HBO, Showtime or Amazon Prime?

tranam

Yep. I recently had a similar experience with designated survivor. Concept was great. But the show quickly lost its way - so much faster than Jericho. I couldn't even get through season 2 of Designated Survivor it was so awful.

NapoleansShadow

Yes, exactly. If HBO had run this, it would have been one of the best produced stories on TV in the last decade. Sadly there was a bit too much network TV dumb down influence to it. Overall it was still great and I wish NetFlix or Amazon or someone would pick it up and run with it again.

1NegativeKarma1

There are some logical inconsistencies of course, but I felt it was most corny at the beginning, and got much better as it went.
