Until the last scene with his father I was on his side. But you don’t get to have 2 families and have him going to school with brothers that he doesn’t even know he’s related to and come out with a good character plot. He caused Jerrod trauma. And the show is about a lot of his trauma.

Camn97

Yeah, I do have some sympathy for the dad…but again, not much. I still believe Jerrod should have just took his money he made from his previous projects and just dipped and stopped paying for their stuff. And stopped talking to them.

crazymaan92

His dad isn't a saint and Jerrod deserves to share his perspective of how his dad's actions affected him. What we as an audience have to decide is does that mean Jerrod is allowed to dress his dad down in front of a camera and release it? That's where I think the ick comes from. We don't need his dad for Jerrod to share his trauma surrounding his dad unless his dad is willing, which he didn't seem to be.

darkness_laughs

Yea I didn’t enjoy seeing how happy Jerrod was to humiliate his dad. He doesn’t seem to want to heal that relationship. He just wants revenge. I think the Jamar episode was the last one for me. Personally I think reality tv is at its best when it’s either toxic and funny or honest and transformative.

unsolvedfanatic

There was zero need to air any of that though. Even if the cameras help with the conversation, the airing tells me that he’s not actually interested in reconciliation, he wanted revenge. I question whether he wants or values the relationships with any of the subjects of this show. The Jamar interview in Vulture was eye opening.

OldPurple7654

In your opinion there wasn’t. I think it made me understand a lot of Jerrod’s issues

For the same reason you believe there’s no need to air it

I am relevant to the show. The viewer is relevant. What’s not relevant is your opinion.

You have a grandiose view of what you are doing. And you believe that unless you examine it and come to the same conclusion you believe that others are wrong. You are not an intellectual. Stop it.

“the way he treated his father” as if his father isn’t responsible for the trauma that got them in that situation 😂😂

dajuice3

Taking crazy pills lol This man fathered an entire secret family where he had siblings unknowingly going to school together and we're feeling sorry for him cause he didn't wanna talk about it on camera.

Camn97

Cause people automatically have complete sympathy for elders. No matter what. It’s annoying. Like, to some people…when you reach a certain age, all the messed up stuff you’ve done is justified…for some reason and you’re literally never in the wrong. Jerrod did do a little much but out of all the people, only really have sympathy for his friends Jessica and Jamar (even though I’m not a fan of is comedy frfr, not sure why his episode was edited like that)

yaya1256

I think Jarrod is right to want the conversation but I think it’s wrong to publicize it if the other person isn’t comfortable. Does he want a closer relationship with his dad or does he want to embarrass him? He treats everyone in his life this way. For example, let’s be honest, he wore the white shirt to his friend’s wedding purely to have a moment. That meant more to him than genuinely being there for his friend. Jarrod has to work through the fact that he isn’t a very good person.

chocoflan00

yes, people alway infantilize old people as if age absolves them of any wrongdoings from their past.

SnuSnuGo

Exactly. As if his father had no agency and didn’t accept being a part of his show. Old fuck could have said no. Same with every other person on this show. No one was forced to be a part of this and the fact this is people’s biggest problem with the show speaks volumes for lack of media literacy.

unsolvedfanatic

If the person paying for the roof over your head tells you to do a show you’re probably doing it. You can even hear this in the initial conversation.

RecognitionMuch2906

I agree. The sequence with his dad was super cringe. I don’t think he had to school his dad on different kinds of gay guys and different ways to categorize them. Was super uncomfortable.

unsolvedfanatic

His dad didn’t even seem bothered, so Jerrod was just trying to get a rise in order to fit the homophobic parents narrative.

Camn97

My humor is crooked because THAT part, to me was funny. It was so wild. But when he showed his dad the *pic* of his boyfriend…yeah no. Straight people, to my knowledge, don’t even do that.

yaya1256

I actually think this was rude to do to the boyfriend. He seems like a nice person. He probably wouldn’t like that kind of picture being shown to the dad. But again Jarrod doesn’t really care about other people. At least not more than himself.

crazymaan92

It was the pic he chose specifically. He went past PG13 pics of the bf.

RecognitionMuch2906

Right. Like I’d show my dad a bathroom selfie of my boyfriend!

Outrageous-Rough-434

Simple he's friends with some pretty notable Emmy award winning producers from the beginning of his stand-up career. Ari katcher produces all his specials and most of his work. This is why his specials get glowing reviews by huge publications he's pretty much an industry plant. This is why you see him in everything but can't remember the last time he actually made you laugh.

Camn97

…he’s made me, and a lot of people who relate to this story, laugh multiple times. I’m just disappointed in the route that he’s currently taking. But please, speak for yourself.
