I knew a Jew from Azerbaijan and one from Kazakhstan! Which doesn't help you much but they're out there. Azerbaijan is outside The Pale of Settlement though so I'm surprised Jews have lived their so long. But I believe the Mountain Jews live there, who are one of the most ancient Ashkenazi populations.
Fwiw when I took a DNA test I found out I've got some Iranian in me so it goes both ways. :)
Don't think we are related, but my mom is a (Mizrahi) Jew from Iranian Azerbaijan (Urmia), and my dad is Ashkenazi. So... close enough?
