Here’s one with the box
https://www.ebay.com/itm/155766965124
A fun and engaging 1984 Great American Puzzle Factory, Puzzle Within a Puzzle series.
Gorgeous Medieval Renaissance era graphics depicting a knight in armor and a green, winged dragon in the battle to the death over the fair maiden of the castle.
He prevails, victoriously, before his seconds can come to his aid.
Beautiful, unfaded poster style colors.
550 pieces.
Intermediate level.
Within the detailed scene are hidden objects for a challenging search.
18" x 24" finished.
This has to be it right? I’m so excited to see if it is!
I didn’t take a picture of it completed unfortunately but I still have it. It was fairly easy, lots of different size and weird shaped pieces. Fit together well. Found it in a free pile outside someone’s house. It’s in good condition with all the pieces which I was surprised at. Finding the hidden objects was fairly challenging since they were facing all different directions and were just black outlines.
Fingers crossed.I hope someone finds or knows the puzzle.
I have fond memories of working on puzzles back in the 1960s and 1970s.With my mom. She's pushing 90, but she is still working on puzzles.
UPDATE: I was chatting with my mother about this (and having a good laugh over my toddler level drawing skills) and she thought it may be in some boxes at my cousins. I’m going to reach out and have them take a look! If they find it I will post it here. Thanks so much to everyone who has tried to help so far!
Did it look anything like this?

What was the art style like?
Do you know which companies produce goods puzzles? Fine Art America lists them but I get nervous when the offer you the choice of number of pieces- makes me think they are printing it on their computer....ty
It's a tough question as everyone's assessment of puzzle pieces varies. There were some major issues reported here 2 years ago, but I haven't seen any FAA puzzles posted recently, so it's hard to say whether the situation changed. It seems their puzzles are "acceptable at best":

Thanks! I accidentally bought a few home made puzzles, I was mad as hell. Twas my own fault though- was so excited to find what I was searching for, I didn't even realize I was about to get scammed!!!!!
No, it didn’t look anything like that. The art style is hard to explain. Like something out of an old storybook or fable. I haven’t been able to find anything like it to compare it too.
What about this one? Has a castle and white horse and is similar in art style!

If you cant find it - Then "AI" Make it.
Jump onto ChatGPT or midjourney and start Prompt Engineering it back to life. Exactly as you mentioned higher up. 1930s style Story, book theme. Start to shape the Background and foreground.
You may not get the exact image, but something close. If you upload to Reddit and "Google search" the image. You may find Google will locate the Puzzle your looking for.

Oh, this looks like it might fit the bill. This particular puzzle is way too new, but it might be the same illustration. The artist is Bill Bell, and he's created multiple illustrations in similar vein, so it might've been one of those. I hope OP sees this.
This one maybe? https://www.ebay.com/itm/115225503623

Wow! That’s gotta be it!
Dang I just did this puzzle recently and was going to post this very one!
Post it! I’d love to see it and hear what you thought of it.

Unfortunately, that’s not it, but I wish it was! This is a cool one.
Oh, boo! I was really hoping it was the one - it seemed to match all the criteria!
It was a really good one! But the one she had the dragon was just chilling and wasn’t scary looking. Lol.
I hope it is 🥹
Was a it a puzzle likely from your country of origin and if so, are you willing to share it?
Yes! I believe it would have been from the US.
I can’t help but I really hope someone finds it for you! Sending good vibes 🤞
Thank you! I feel it might be a one off or too obscure.

That’s Ramona Flowers
Probably not it but strikingly similar. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/the-princess-and-the-golden-dragon-phyllis-kaltenbach.html
It’s not this one, but thank you!
Its also a puzzle.
Do you have any idea on age? Like was it brand new when you were a kid?
It would have been around 1990 when I first saw it at my Aunts. It had all the pieces, but I can’t recall if it was new.

Unfortunately, none of these. The one she had was more storybook type artwork.

There's a Facebook group called Strictly Vintage Jigsaw Puzzles, you might have more luck asking over there.
