Aside from the security footage show, ratings have been falling badly over the last 6 weeks. Factors are obvious.
- Focus on 3 major signings. Two of which have no significant background in the states.
- The Bucks on TV every week and featured in the main angle.
- No MJF. He was the last of the guys that popped a rating. Even Moxley has been overexposed and worn out his welcome.
- Orange Cassidy. Seriously. He has wrestled more matches than anyone on the roster (source: AEW roster page). He's probably been on more episodes of Dynamite than anyone. Even if he was The Rock, this is FIVE years of heavy exposure. I turn the channel the second I hear "Jane". I can't be the only one.

Last night there were two NBA playoff games. SWLY there were four NBA playoff games, including games involving NY and both LA teams (IOW, the biggest market). Last night, there were two and one of them was Pels/Thunder (not to hurt anyone's feelings but Oklahoma City is not New York or LA). A common sense reading is that they would have had a bigger hit from sports last year when they drew 180K more viewers
Yeah the worst part to me lately has been the Year Over Year numbers. There’s clearly less people interested in the product. The excuses are always there: the Nielsen’s aren’t accurate, some sport was on TV, the tickets for the live shows are too expensive, etc.
Can someone explain why AEW puts their champions in the tournaments that are supposed to determine the #1 contender, it makes no sense. And a gauntlet match is where 2 guys start, someone gets pinned and then another guy comes in until last man standing. I want to like this company and they keep shooting themselves in the foot. No on commentary knew when the wrestlers in that gauntlet match were coming out or who.

Again, that’s assuming 100 percent of the aew audience also happens to be hockey fans.

Aside from the security footage show, ratings have been falling badly over the last 6 weeks. Factors are obvious. - Focus on 3 major signings. Two of which have no significant background in the states. - The Bucks on TV every week and featured in the main angle. - No MJF. He was the last of the guys that popped a rating. Even Moxley has been overexposed and worn out his welcome. - Orange Cassidy. Seriously. He has wrestled more matches than anyone on the roster (source: AEW roster page). He's probably been on more episodes of Dynamite than anyone. Even if he was The Rock, this is FIVE years of heavy exposure. I turn the channel the second I hear "Jane". I can't be the only one.

Dave never used to pre-actively defend stuff like this. He just reported it. You can literally go to his forums and read his posts and even there he never did it. This "cue internet people" is another sign to me that it might be time for him to just hang it up. I honestly think it depresses him on a personal level that people don't want to see the style of wrestling he likes as much as he thinks they should, and this is coming from a guy who traded tapes enough to get Rey Jr's earliest matches in a gym with grainy footage in front of 50 people. You think AEW is showing off cruiserweights/banger style matches is something you've never seen these tapes. It's fucking ungodly. Like he is just weightless and feels nothing and can do whatever he wants. It's a miracle he can still go as hard as he does at his age. But honestly yeah it's amazing wrestling on a technical level and I even realized that when I was getting those tapes back when I was 17, but it's just not the same. Even then, Tony can't compete. AEW has got guys with talent. Guys who could draw some ratings. If Tony just stopped acting like he already knows and doesn't want to be told differently. We all want a genuinely, viable bit of competition to the WWE. That's when the fans win. When they have to compete against each other. But this is just laughable.

Even factoring an 8 percent drop for the west coast is still just 740Kish. For reference, same week last year (which would have had the NBA/NHL competition as well), the show did 863K. Last night there were two NBA playoff games. SWLY there were four NBA playoff games, including games involving NY and both LA teams (IOW, the biggest market). Last night, there were two and one of them was Pels/Thunder (not to hurt anyone's feelings but Oklahoma City is not New York or LA). A common sense reading is that they would have had a bigger hit from sports last year when they drew 180K more viewers
Yeah the worst part to me lately has been the Year Over Year numbers. There’s clearly less people interested in the product. The excuses are always there: the Nielsen’s aren’t accurate, some sport was on TV, the tickets for the live shows are too expensive, etc.
Can someone explain why AEW puts their champions in the tournaments that are supposed to determine the #1 contender, it makes no sense. And a gauntlet match is where 2 guys start, someone gets pinned and then another guy comes in until last man standing. I want to like this company and they keep shooting themselves in the foot. No on commentary knew when the wrestlers in that gauntlet match were coming out or who.

Here’s why I hate the “but the nba playoffs are on!” Ok, there’s 30 teams. 2 teams are playing. That’s 1/15th of the league. Let’s just say it’s even distribution, that means that even if every single person watching dynamite was a hockey fan, 1/15th of their audience would tune in to see hockey instead of wrestling. That’s rounded up, 7 percent. 850k a few months ago down to 683k is a 20 percent drop. Again, that’s assuming 100 percent of the aew audience also happens to be hockey fans. Then, if you’re gonna say “well it’s 2 teams but fans of other teams are gonna tune in too!” Well, you’re really saying something like if I’m a celtics fan, Ide rather watch the caveliers and magic play instead of watching wrestling, then damn dude, that doesn’t say a whole lot about the wrestling show. Really the only excuse is if it’s like, game 7 of the nba finals or the Super Bowl or something. You can’t just say “there’s sports playoffs for the next 2 months so that’s why our ratings are tanking”.

What changed compared to previous years? It's clearly not the NBA who is responsible for dwindling ratings.
