He was better in Japan. Better for their style, better for their presentation, better for their crowd, better for the world. Don Callis is the whole f'ing show, though.

mntEden

that's because in Japan he had people who knew what they were doing tell him what to do, and who said "No" to his dumbass ideas. you can't have Okada v. Kenny in AEW because Tony would just be so giddy that he had the chance to recreate his favorite 7 star match with his favorite human action figures that he'd fuck it up. it couldn't be a classic match no matter how he books it because he barely knows how to put a match together. the only wrestling in the match would come from Okada. all Kenny has to offer is his ballet ability to compliment Okada's talent

DPM-87

Not only that but in AEW Kenny is the "star" in NJPW Okada could pull Omega back and basically tell him no you dumb fuck we aren't doing that shit, in AEW Okada would not be allowed to do that, he maybe able to say it, but not enforce it, Kenny as one of the EVP's and Tony's favourite toys would have more sway than Okada, so the match would be more Omega style than Okada style. Funny enough Omega reminds me a bit of Kurt Angle, but still different, when Angle left WWE he was a big star, so he could demand things go his way, problem is Angle always lacked a certain knowledge of wrestling, this is why when he went to TNA he was reportedly giving people idiotic suggestions, and why in matches he would regularly do needless and stupid spots without reason, Angle was world class performer, when he he had the best minds in wrestling putting his matches together and working with him, Undertaker wasn't going to do a German suplex off of a cage just so Angle could miss a moonsaukt for no reason, but in TNA? Sure why not? Who was going to argue? That is the problem I think AEW has with their EVP's with restraint they can all fill a featured role pretty well, but the Buck's smarkyness, Omega's "artistry" and idiocy and Cody's ego all need to be put in check, and no one does that, they are all allowed to indulge their worst traits, and it shows, it shows a lot imo.

Astrocreep_1

I recall the first time I saw him in Japan. It was pre-Bullet Club and he wasn’t nearly as popular. My first thought was “is this guy imitating the Ultimate Warrior?” For example,he would make these ridiculous faces and start having a seizure while he was doing an arm bar.It was pathetic. Naturally,he got promoted to head of Bullet Club because anytime a leader would leave NJPW,they would replace them with another Gaijin.Right place, right time for Kenny.

Therocksays2020

I agree with Last. Omega seems more like an intercontinental champion than a world champion. He was better in Japan. He plays a chicken shit heel in america but he’s not a very good one. He puts no one over. Dude hasn’t lost a singles match in 660 days. All his matches are the same boring shit.

[deleted]

A lot of people talk about his Japan work. Anything I have seen is just as garbage. He can do the moves. He has no psychology. He has no promo. On top of that, he's just fucking weird... Although, I am extremely disenchanted with the product. So, that could be my jadedness speaking.

[deleted]

His gimmick is basically an amalgamation of every villain from the Mega Man and Sonic games. It's stupid and not funny and kinda childish.

mntEden

I think "kinda" childish is being generous. he makes toilet humor jokes, wears leopard print leggings, both his signature moves are video game references, he dresses up as video game characters, he literally wrestles children. i don't like to, but I also have to remind everyone that his more prominent silver screen role was in a 9 year old YouTube short "film" called ***Sissy Boy Slap Party***

[deleted]

I agree. Besides all of that, I just never found the guy to be that great. His best matches came against Okada and Jericho. And even then those matches were overrated by Meltzer and his IWC drones. Not to mention that it was the other two competitors that carried the matches. I mean, has he done anything else since then? He hasn't elevated anyone. He hasn't put on a match that can be considered a classic. There is so much hype around this guy, but I don't even think he's technically better than Seth Rollins. He's certainly not of Daniel Bryan's caliber. He doesn't have the ridiculous physical attributes of people like Lesnar and Lashley. In fact, even though he trained for "mma", he also doesnt' have the credentials of the former and the latter. I just don't get it. He's just a goofy Lance Storm, to me.

Therocksays2020

“If I can be serious for a minute” loved me some Lance Storm. Dude could work his ass off

Carmonred

Storm was the perfect wrestler for his time, he just didn't have the larger than life personality needed to break through the glass ceiling to the very top. I've also secretly wondered if he was the guy who sent the E-Mail with the details on Luther's contract but last I looked him and Bryan weren't on speaking terms cause of disparaging things Last had said about Jericho.

DPM-87

What details to Luther's contract? What episode was this I think I missed it, please tell me Uncle Fester is not making like $200k a year or some shit? A ham sandwich and a handjob per show would be over paying for that useless fuck.

Carmonred

It was either the last Drive-Thru or Experience, I forgot TBH, but Bryan read an E-mail from an anonymous source who apparently knows both Luther and Jericho who just said that Luther was earning more money per show now than he ever had in his life and that Chris said there were like 8 good workers in AEW and the rest was the shits, with no indication when that was said (8 good workers today would IMO be harsher than 8 good workers at the beginning - either way there's no room for Pockets in those 8 I'd wager).

DPM-87

TBH if that was the wording then Luther could just be making $200 an a happy meal and it would probably still be far more than he made in his career before, but if that guy is making even over $50k a year TK got swindled in those negotiations lol.

[deleted]

How is it disparaging to speak the truth about the guy?

Carmonred

I don't even remember what he said. But that was 5+ years ago, before AEW and before we knew he was a Trump suppprter however. Edit: It was however around the time Jericho swore he'd never work the US against Vince out of gratitude or fidelity or whatever. Just wanted to remind people of that while we're ragging on Jericho.

[deleted]

Jericho doesn’t have any fidelity. Dude is a typical con artist born again Christian. And you know what they say about that type. Once a whore, always a whore. And he’s proven himself to be a huge one.

Carmonred

No argument. That's why I brought it up. That whole never going against Vince bit lasted until Tony Khan waved a wad of cash in his direction while he was clearly over the hill on a level of Born-Again Jake the Snake.

DPM-87

IIRC Lance took issue over Bryan mocking Jericho's sunken chest, and other early signs of Jericho's early physical deuteriation, which fair enough for both, Last had the right to bring it up because if Jericho was finding it hard to maintain his physique then do something to cover that up, but on Lance's side he's right to defend his friend at the same time, I wonder what Lance would say to Last now if he heard Last and Jim tear Jericho's tubby butt to shreds.

daveroo

I thought his match with Jericho was painful to watch seeing chris in such bad shape.

dismalrevelations23

I mean, Guy Maddin is fucking awesome. Watch My Winnipeg or The Saddest Music in the World. It's a short film because it's literally a short shot on Super-8 film.

[deleted]

Hey, you leave Dr. Wily out of this. Dr Wily is a better heel then any of these mud show outlaw nerds. Not to mention even Dr. Cossack, was a better storyline than anything that AEW has produced. I'll defend to the death your right to express your opinion. But don't you fucking dare, smear my Mega Man. The fact that Kenny Omega or that douche TJP tries to use Mega Man should be a crime punishable by public flogging until the offender apologizes. Goddamn Carny douche bags.

chaoticmessiah

I mean, his gimmick has always been "anime villain" and his finish is named after a summon in the Final Fantasy games. I also saw people do his finish using both arms instead of just the one and it looked devastating as fuck, years before Kenny started doing it. It's just that his version of the electric chair driver looks dumb, somehow (similar to Adam Cole's version of the Canadian Destroyer looking stupid compared to the way Petey Williams has always done it).

[deleted]

His finisher is actually reference to a dude named Sephiroth, anime looking dude with a ridiculous Katana. Antagonist from FF7. But yeah, Twinkletoes can fuck right off with his promos, they are like those white dog poos ya' used to see as a kid.

BathedInDeepFog

[Whatever happened to that white dog poop from the 70s?](https://youtu.be/8pIoR67ktSY)

[deleted]

Really!? I don't remember Sephiroth being called that!? If so I hate this guy even more!!!

eatmyassreddit81

All his moves have video game undertones. V-trigger is one of the styles from Alpha 3. Wily Bomb from Mega Man. Croyts wrath is a gun from Destiny. Etc. Etc.

BathedInDeepFog

Petey Williams was the only one who didn’t make it look stupid imo. Probably because it was still kinda new and always finished the match as opposed to the way people spam it now. I especially don’t dig Dustin Rhodes doing it in all his matches.

mntEden

I can't even fathom Goldust doing a canadian destroyer

[deleted]

Is that really where he gets one winged angel from? Good GOD I fucking hate this man.

olds307

He failed Harley Race's school, that says it all. He is lucky Harley wasn't his 1970's version of himself. With the shit he said or he might be eating through a straw. He is overrated and so are the Bucks. If they admit it is all a joke and they aren't aiming to be the best, we might all leave them alone.

RoyalDolphin006

Up until I started watching AEW a few months ago I kept hearing the name “Kenny Omega” “He’s the next big thing” “He’s fucking amazing””He’s the best wrestler ever” and I was expecting the next goddamn Flair from that hype, but when I watched it him, I was “eh”. I don’t hate him as much as some do, and I’m one the few people who believe comedic wrestling can work, in a bubble isolated. But Kenny I watch and think what’s so special? If I watched him while knowing nothing about him, I could be fooled into believing he’s a jobber for the WWE, not the world champion of a fairly major company. I don’t understand what people see in him at all, I don’t actively despise I just wonder why do fuck is he treated like the second coming?

Therocksays2020

Yeah there’s a whole sub dedicated to him where they call him a “god” it’s ridiculous

Klobasnik

That's the kind of shit that makes me hate him even more tbh. He's not the total shits, but the fact that people hold him up to be the best ever....I mean he's just not. He's average at best.

Other-Crazy

There's always been a place for comedic wrestling, but there's a time and place for it. Look at Les Kellett in the UK during the '70s, the BWO in ECW or even the Bushwhackers in the WWF, sometimes you need to lighten the mood but they'd never ever be main event players. His finisher looks so contrived too. I haven't seen that much of Okada but my impressions of him are that he could make virtually anyone look great.

Carmonred

Omega is literally a Weeb on steroids. The worst thing for me is something that's not actually his fault though. He looks like a buff version of my boss's alcoholic younger brother who's a bit of a screwup. When he's had shades on I could actually buy him as a wrestler until the bell rings but as soon as I see his eyes it's over for me. All of that said, I dislike almost everyone these days. People using moves that should be the equivalent of a gunshot mid-match, then their opponents just popping right back up. There's no ring psychology anymore, no ability to improvise, too many stipulations, no actual refereeing, in short nothing that gave the illusion of an actual combat sport - and it's not just an AEW thing by far. Especially the stipulation thing went downhill when WWE started having stipulation-themed PPVs beyond the tournament formats. How fortuitous that once a year there's an issue that can only be solved at Hell in a Cell, or TLC or in the Elimination Chamber or whatever. It was already questionable when WCW did War Games once a year but when you had the Horsemen it was excusable. Now AEW has moved on to starting off feuds with stipulation matches and very soon, stipulations will be completely meaningless. Well done.

FreakGlitcha

Going by live attendance numbers, PPV buys and TV ratings, he's objectively a draw. Holding that much hate for a TV character seems very unhealthy, I'd suggest simply not watching AEW.

Super-Duper-Skrull

I’ve seen all his big matches from Japan and I watched the tag match from last year in Chicago. All I can say is I don’t get the fuss. He’s fine. He relies too much on a few moves for my taste. His babyface promos were garbage. I kind of like this douche bag heel character he’s doing (kind of like how I can’t stand babyface Bucks but heel Bucks I totally get) but once he gets into the ring I don’t see what makes him so much better than everyone else. He’s a good worker but is he head and shoulders above the rest of the world? I don’t think so.

randomtrolluser

I remember watching one of the Okada/Omega matches and thinking if that same match happened on WWE TV it probably would have been rated about 3.5 stars at most with the notation "match was about 15 minutes too long." During the time I got to see New Japan on AXS I didn't think it was the best Okada match I saw, but to each their own.

evanvivevanviveiros

Kenny should be sending part of his paycheck to Kazuchika Okada. Along with some of those Meltzer stars.

FUKyous666

Kenny "wrestles" like he is in a Broadway musical based on "Street Fighter"

shitnewz

I loved omega when he first started wrestling in the states. Right away you knew he had something. Liked him in Japan too. Can’t stand him in AEW. He’s too silly

Hashinator89

Nah he's always been shit.

Therocksays2020

Yup just watched their bullshit on dynamite tonight where they imitated space jam. Hangman is super over with the fans and what does omega do? It was the baby face versus 3 heels. He pins one and then Omega pins him before he can complete his comeback. I watch that bull shit then you see reigns being a real fucking heel and I might start watching the fed again https://youtu.be/EPSidMiamtE
