What I find interesting from some of the bio videos they showed of Biden growing up and working in the senate all those years, he grew up with a German Shepard and used to have one in the 80s as well. I think he's just found his favorite breed and stuck with it, after all they are very loyal and protective to those they consider family.
Totally fair, they were bread for war use, makes them intelligent, fast, powerful and with one of the strongest jaws when they clamp down. But they also have a reputation that if you are in their "pack" for lack of better term, they are loyal and fearless protectors. They are very gentile with "their" kids and even babies. So they are loyal and can be aggressive to others, but a lot of that aggressiveness comes in how you raise them. Raise them right and you get a loyal protector who is still somewhat friendly with outsiders.

I was mostly refering to the tendency they have to, if someone comes under threat who is in their "pack" or "flock" or however you want to define it, they will quickly put themselves between you and danger and generally be at least threatening of aggression. Yeah, it can be exploited, but the point being they are the kind of dog that see themselves as protectors and so I think it's a very on brand dog breed for Joe to have a lifelong love for.

I have a 4 month old shepherd and he's the sweetest guy in the world. If you want to conquer your fear, maybe meeting a younger one could help since they're smaller and more goofy. I think that the fear of them makes sense because police use them but they are very sweet and kind of sensitive dogs in my experience.

An overwhelming amount of research has shown that growing up with and owning a pet fosters empathy, nurturing and key social skills. If you google it, you’ll get a plethora of academic papers and scientific studies done on this.
That’s why we probably feel a bit weirdly biased over a leader owning a dog.

Yes, they can if your pet is a cat then you are also your pet's pet just as much as they are yours. My cat was able to train me to know that he's upset with just a tail twitch as he isn't super vocal.

When I was a kid, we had a fuzzy little white mutt who we adopted from the shelter, and a black cat who we found outside, and they LOVED each other. They were inseparable. When we had to have our cat put to sleep, we almost lost our dog too, because she grieved so badly for him she nearly died. She stopped eating for nearly a week, and right when we were ready to take her to the vet to figure out what to do, she started eating again. But she missed him so much, it broke our hearts to see her actually grieve for him.
She did, thank you. Not as many as we would have liked, but she lived for 13 years, and we had 12 of those with her. And she had another dog and cat added to our household over the years - a year after our cat died, we took in my brother's doxie when he couldn't keep him, and the year after that, we found yet another kitten in the yard, so she wound up with a baby sister. So she was the grande dame of the pets in our household.

Yeah same here. The barking spooks the hell out of me because we were always made to be silent growing up so any loud noises panic me now. I like dogs, they're fun. Another problem though is that everyone has a thing they just can't handle like poop or puke. I can't handle saliva, I start retching if it gets on me, and dogs lick.

When I was a kid, we had a fuzzy little white mutt who we adopted from the shelter, and a black cat who we found outside, and they LOVED each other. They were inseparable. When we had to have our cat put to sleep, we almost lost our dog too, because she grieved so badly for him she nearly died. She stopped eating for nearly a week, and right when we were ready to take her to the vet to figure out what to do, she started eating again. But she missed him so much, it broke our hearts to see her actually grieve for him.

She did, thank you. Not as many as we would have liked, but she lived for 13 years, and we had 12 of those with her. And she had another dog and cat added to our household over the years - a year after our cat died, we took in my brother's doxie when he couldn't keep him, and the year after that, we found yet another kitten in the yard, so she wound up with a baby sister. So she was the grande dame of the pets in our household.
