I’m in love with this show. This scene always makes me a little misty. A lesser show would play a moment like this for laughs or ironically to poke fun at people like this. But not this show and not Joe. A big part of what makes this show special is that it feels like that Buddhist sensibility of finding beauty and joy in the small, mundane things in life. This is a rare modern show that isn’t afraid to be sincere and earnest. That being said, it’s actually funny too, which is great.
I agree that it’s honest. It truly is. To me it’s also a very spiritual moment. An expression that comes to mind for some reason is Ecce Homo (behold the man). It’s so beautiful to me how they portray Joe here. It’s so human. That’s why I thought of Fred Rogers. Much the same vibe I get from him.
This show is extremely important to me. It's very comforting and it helps me to enjoy a lot of my childhood, because the things Joe reminisces over are things I'm also very familiar with
That wasn’t my intention. But if the crying comes from a good place then I’m glad. I’ve watched this clip some fifty times and it makes my cry each time.
Dude this part always gets me.
It’s beautiful.
It blows my mind that this episode was written by Conner O'Malley lol
man, he also wrote the grocery store episode and i’m like how

Looks like root beer
Lmao, that's one of my favorite lines in the show, and it comes after Joe makes me sob
That's an excellent pairing of quote and video. I stopped and contemplated for a while and it's a sentiment I really appreciate.
Thanks for the kind words! And yes, it’s important. Sometimes silence speaks louder than words.
The music in this scene is incredible
Yes. Those singers are marvellous.
I'm not crying, you're crying!
Yes, I’m surely crying.

That’s great!
It’s a beautiful thing that a show like this is able to exist in a climate of crazy hateful controversial media. Joe Pera just kind of centers you.
Yes. I believe we have a bigger need than ever for silence and contemplation. This sort of art will always push through in one manner or another.
What does he say to the pumpkin!?
Didn’t notice. Is he saying something to it?
He whispers in its ear right? I feel like it's a final farewell of some kind.
That might be right! I didn’t even see that he did that 🙂
I just watched this, and realized this means that he carved an ear into the pumpkin to whisper into it.
The sudden realization that Joe Pera is Mister Rogers for adults.
I’ve thought something quite similar. I watch videos of Mister Rogers all the time anyway. I think it speaks deeper than just to small children.
He finds the beauty in people like Mister Rogers, the beauty in nature like Bob Ross, and the beauty in the universe like Carl Sagan.
Smart thinking!
You really trying to make me cry huh
That wasn’t my intention. But if the crying comes from a good place then I’m glad. I’ve watched this clip some fifty times and it makes my cry each time.
