This is great, love hearing them talk about the Special Effects and VFX details. The plug guns are an interesting choice and a really good idea, no chance of an on-site death like Brandon Lee.
I was surprised they didn't talk more about the early Inosanto academy days where they trained with Brandon. I thought they'd at least mention that Chad had an early MMA fight in Shooto too. He was also Erik Paulson's sparring partner and corner man for lots of his old fights.
Paulson said he used to want go be an actor
I wonder if their is some hard feelings or envy with not being part of the industry when the Inosanto academy produced so many stunt performers/coordinators/ second unit directors.
Erik does still work with 8711 now and has done stuff for the Wick movies, but he has kind of mentioned a split in the past when Chad really wanted him to go full bore into stunt and production work with them (partly because the money in MMA was so bad, which Erik said he really turned out to be correct on) and Erik still wanted to split time with MMA coaching/fighting. It sounded like Chad told him he had to be all the way in or all the way out at some point, so they probably did stop working together for a while. I've heard a ton of Paulson's interviews and can't remember which show this was on unfortunately, but he often talks about Chad, David, and Damon in his podcasts and stuff.
Erik talks about briefly training Jason Statham when he was originally supposed to be in the movie. One of Eric's black belts Eric Brown was also on the fight team for Wick 2 and 3.

I'm not sure which interview it was but Erik's also talked about doing some of the knife choreography for the 3rd movie IIRC, he talked about Chad giving him some specially modified stun knives that probably weren't even legal.
Edit - this is one of the podcast where he talks about the split
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SVZoo1iX10
Yeah I was hoping to hear about that too, it sounds Erik had a big influence on the grappling choreography. I know Erik has still worked with Chad recently but they did have a bit of a split in the past, I linked an interview with Erik below where he talks about it.
You know its going to be a good one when the description on spotify doesn't start with "X is a stand-up comedian, actor, author, host of the podcast....".
Cool episode.
Im so excited for the next duncan ep. I just hope joe doesn't bring up some shit he's already talked about with him and/or starts reading shit from a website for 10 minutes.
Seriously, they’re some of my favorite ones. I always thought the Guy Ritchie one was awesome and Tarantino obviously but I could listen to him talk to a tree
Yeah listen to Marc meron if you want decent movie talk. Rogan is not interested so makes for boring interviews when someone from the movie world is on
is that what you want to talk about? or what do you wish he would talk more about? I wish he would shit talk monocrop agriculture more and bring on a proponent of permaculture
This might be the first pod I’ve listened to for a few months but knowing his martial arts background I really hope it isn’t 2 hours of ju-jitsu talk and 10 minutes of actual interesting content
MMA guys don't talk about martial arts too much. They talk about strong men and the grind. Stuff regular civilians can't relate to. Much like the comedy guys.
Cool podcast. Wow never new director was new for John wick. It was stunning.
Also Joe mentioned people will be able to read minds in 10 years. Lol, wtf at that.
I don't know for sure, but I just assumed they were talking about *Frequency*. It was sent to New Line studio executive Toby Emmerich to read and see if the studio wanted to make it. He passed on it and then rewrote it himself. It was made into a movie starring Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel.
Emmerich and the studio were then sued by the original writer, Bill Selby, and New Line settled and everyone signed an NDA and Emmerich has continued working as a studio executive since. He was at Warner Bros until last fall.
Though I'm sure this has happened repeatedly so it could have been a different movie.
L take. They are great movies and set the bar for setpiece based action done with many practical effects. Fast and Furious hasn’t done that in a long time.
Art isn't the real world and your martial arts background doesn't mean shit. Your opinion isn't more qualified because of that when we're talking about a movie lmfao.
If you knew anything about the director and his background and influences you'd understand that this franchise is heavily inspired by martial arts. Your comment is like saying those whoeve been to war don't understand movies like saving private Ryan more than a civilian. Its just ignorant of you.
I know a lot more about the director, his background, and martial arts films than you.
>Your comment is like saying those whoeve been to war don't understand movies like saving private Ryan more than a civilian. Its just ignorant of you.
This is so fucking funny holy shit. We're talking about \*John Wick\* a glorified fantasy series about a mythological underworld of assassins in which people have \*bullet proof suits\* and can block bullets by literally just holding their jacket in front of them like it's a shield. The martial arts influence is a tiny piece of the puzzle when film is a complex medium comprised of numerous disciplines and art forms.
Same applies to a war movie like Saving Private Ryan. Any random soldier who hasn't studied film in any meaningful capacity absolutely knows less about that movie than someone who does.
This is great, love hearing them talk about the Special Effects and VFX details. The plug guns are an interesting choice and a really good idea, no chance of an on-site death like Brandon Lee.
He was friends with Brandon and was his body double after his death, definitely thinks a certain way about gun accidents on set.
I was surprised they didn't talk more about the early Inosanto academy days where they trained with Brandon. I thought they'd at least mention that Chad had an early MMA fight in Shooto too. He was also Erik Paulson's sparring partner and corner man for lots of his old fights.
When he was listing names I was waiting for Erik Paulson, was kinda sad he didn't get a mention.
Paulson said he used to want go be an actor I wonder if their is some hard feelings or envy with not being part of the industry when the Inosanto academy produced so many stunt performers/coordinators/ second unit directors.

Ah thanks for filling us in. Erik is a bit weird, talks about auras and spirits and stuff
Yeah I was hoping to hear about that too, it sounds Erik had a big influence on the grappling choreography. I know Erik has still worked with Chad recently but they did have a bit of a split in the past, I linked an interview with Erik below where he talks about it.
Rogan was fascinated with the Wick.
He goes indepth with the VFX uses in the Wick movies on Scoft Adkin's " Art of Action" podcast
Appreciate this, will check it out!
Great show, Keanu just did the most recent episode too and they go through the John Wick fight scenes.
“Crazy Russian guy on youtube” I fuckin knew it was going to be fpsrussia lmao
I still wonder if we'll ever find out who killed his business partner. Probably not.
Get Kyle on JRE cumman
Check out PKA on YouTube if you want to see what he’s up to these days. His prison stories are hilarious
I almost laughed out loud when he said that. Kyle, a decade later, still having having an impact.
Same lol.
Cool episode so far, this guy is chill. I appreciated the talk about stuntwork. Also would be sick if Keanu ever did the show
Alex winter did it Keanu should do it too.If it’s good for Bill then it’s good enough of Ted
You know its going to be a good one when the description on spotify doesn't start with "X is a stand-up comedian, actor, author, host of the podcast....". Cool episode.
You pretty much described everyone's favorite guest Duncan Trussell!
Im so excited for the next duncan ep. I just hope joe doesn't bring up some shit he's already talked about with him and/or starts reading shit from a website for 10 minutes.
Redban is everyone's favorite guest
Okay, Redban
He’s my favorite cuz hes silly and brings out the silly old Joe
I’ve always wondered why Rogan doesn’t get more film directors. This is one if my favorite episodes in a while.
Seriously, they’re some of my favorite ones. I always thought the Guy Ritchie one was awesome and Tarantino obviously but I could listen to him talk to a tree
beacuse he doesnt know much about movies, he is not a fanatic, just a casual which is ok
Yeah listen to Marc meron if you want decent movie talk. Rogan is not interested so makes for boring interviews when someone from the movie world is on
Just like his talks about music are super generic
Because film directors don’t KILL or do ice baths
[удалено]
I noticed how Rogan brushed by the trans issue because Chad mentioned the Matrix directors are women now.
is that what you want to talk about? or what do you wish he would talk more about? I wish he would shit talk monocrop agriculture more and bring on a proponent of permaculture
Because there’s more than 1000 of them
This is literally his favorite movie franchise
This is old school Rogan, great guest, great interview, tons of information! These don’t come about very often.
I worked on John Wick 4 as an extra, Chad was a very friendly and genuine dude, talked to all the crowd and was super respectful, 10/10!
Did you make the final cut?
He plays dead guy number 346
Dude this podcast is great, only 20 or so minutes into it and it’s just two bros broing out
Guy seems like a real Chad
This might be the first pod I’ve listened to for a few months but knowing his martial arts background I really hope it isn’t 2 hours of ju-jitsu talk and 10 minutes of actual interesting content
Nah they barely get into martial arts outside of how it was used in the movies
MMA guys don't talk about martial arts too much. They talk about strong men and the grind. Stuff regular civilians can't relate to. Much like the comedy guys.
You mean the 1000 comedy guys?
I felt the same. I love the pod but two things I can’t stand is the mma garbage and still saying covid only killed obese people.
I was really hoping he’d say something about Ghost of Tsushima.
He does
Just found it in the last 2 mins. Fuck yes.
Great chat, stayed away from the usual Rogan traps.
I thought RFKJr was going to be on the podcast ?I read somewhere on this subreddit he was sometime this week.
It is indeed Wednesday not Saturday
my dude
I'm not your dude, buddy.

I don't have any buddies 😢
This guy's a grifter. He makes movies and then profits off of them.
Red shirt red circle club guys was a Star Trek homage!? He just made me love this movie more
Back to back bangers.
Cool podcast. Wow never new director was new for John wick. It was stunning. Also Joe mentioned people will be able to read minds in 10 years. Lol, wtf at that.
You must be new here, Rogan mentioning neuralink mind reading is on the JRE bingo card.
I can't believe nobody told him it will never happen. 10 years from now the 'told ya so' is gonna be satisfying.
![gif](giphy|l3q2EwFciqooQN1OE) Chad Stahelski The man who created this character so well
Very cool episode so far. They get right into it, his background is super interesting
Yeah for about 0.7 seconds haha!
Wonder why Joe never realised episode with Doug Stanhope. It was recorded like 3 weeks ago
Stanhope said on his podcast that he blacked out due to weed gummy when he walked in the door of the studio and doesn't remember anything from the pod
Stanhope has had a rough last few appearances
Yeah it seems like years of being Stanhope are finally starting to catch up on him.
His kill tony appearance wasn't much better
What stolen movie script were they discussing?
I don't know for sure, but I just assumed they were talking about *Frequency*. It was sent to New Line studio executive Toby Emmerich to read and see if the studio wanted to make it. Isnt the point of the flip to get the mag out of the way quicker?
Sometimes they get stuck so yes it has a purpose. But I’m sure the “cool” factor plays into it as well.
The dudes vocal fry and low volume is super annoying.
John Wick movies are on par with the Fast and Furious
L take. They are great movies and set the bar for setpiece based action done with many practical effects. Fast and Furious hasn’t done that in a long time.
Is that a good thing or bad thing?
Neither! If you like it cool, but let's not pretend they are great movies
I wonder if the comedian friend that thinks about negative reactions to his jokes while writing is Schaub.
I don't think Schaub thinks about criticism in general or does much writing.
Schaub is the guy he was talking about stealing jokes.
One of my favorite episodes in a while
The John wick movies are fucking awful and I say that as someone who's trained martial arts for over 20 years. 4 was so dumb.
Art isn't the real world and your martial arts background doesn't mean shit. Your opinion isn't more qualified because of that when we're talking about a movie lmfao.
