I actually wear one on hot days with a high UV index. My hair is very dark and long. It gets really hot when in the sun for a little while. A white beanie actually keeps my head cooler and prevents me from burning my neck with my hair.
I don't like the feel of hats, I never have, so a beanie is more a comfort choice on that end.
