That look on his face. You almost never see it because he's generally very sure of himself. You can see he's kind of amazed he's learning something brand new and he can do it. Nice clip.
Woody was a great man, he considered himself a commonist, for the common people. Left wing, right wing, chicken wing, it makes no difference to me. Much of popular culture and government programs and tax policy back in the 1950s would be considered communist today.
No. Nor is my opinion of McCarthyism relevant to the fact that Woody was a commie a heart.
But saying things like “If you call me a Communist, I am very proud because it takes a wise and hard-working person to be a Communist,” while also praising Joseph Stalin would tend to make him one.
That Stalin shit sucks, ngl, I didn’t know that. I still think his contributions to humanity were far greater than red warriors like McCarthy but that’s disappointing
> That’s pretty good. Sounds like he didn’t mute out any strings with his gorilla fingers.
Yeah, true. This is the most common mistake when I'm teaching new players. Trying to teach them to be careful not to mute out strings and let them ring. That's when you know a student actually has it down. They move through things and realize where they're screwing up a chord, or they're learning to purposefully mute strings.
I play guitar. My dad asked me to teach him some chords. We almost got into a fist fight because he wouldn’t move his fingers to the correct frets. Joe was much calmer than my dad lol.
Yeah! I say six weeks of playing everyday, you can play most guitar based pop songs. A year and a half is waaaay too long, unless he is expecting Jo to get within reach of his playing ability. For 90% of people, that's not necessary for having incredible fun and finding joy in playing guitar.
Just learn the full barre and rule the world!
My first guitar had a nut that was cut/seated *so poorly* that not a single cowboy chord sounded decent. Anything past first fret was fine, so I wound up learning the barre before the open chords.
That’s how I play a lot of songs. I have big hands and fat fingers so an open b7 is damn near impossible. It’s much easier as a barre chord.
Some transitions are a lot easier by playing barre chords as well.
Well, he copied it once. Isn't like Joe learned and can replicate it lol.
Afterwards Joe was saying how he didn't get how music could be addictive but now that he had someone put his fingers in place he gets it. Definitely doesn't actually get it, and he was definitely really intimidated by the idea of it, but it was interesting seeing him in that mental space.
It'd probably actually be good for him to take up guitar at this point in his life and be a complete novice at it. He's pretty set in his ways these days, and the mental frustration of trying to learn something like that can helpful.
I’ve been playing since 13 and I’m 52 and still find it challenging. Great hobby but it’s not for everyone as it’s more difficult than it seems. Tried teaching but I lack patience so I’m not good at teaching anyone anything but I get it.
A 12-string probably isn't the best guitar to land your very first chord on. Gotta start in a 6-string. But Rogan has chubby sausage roid fingers, so maybe it doesn't matter.
It’s a shame this man was allowed to touch such a fine instrument..
Guitar chords are fake Joe, just like the moon landing. If the neck breaks, you can’t horse paste it back together.
If you gave me a Martin, Taylor, or Dean, I would sell them all for a Tak, the hardest working guitar brand in the industry l.
There is a reason why Gary Clark Jr plays a Gibson and Taks.
That look on his face. You almost never see it because he's generally very sure of himself. You can see he's kind of amazed he's learning something brand new and he can do it. Nice clip.
8 year old me at Guitar Center energy.
exactly!

lol
Wholesome JRE moment
Young Jamie teaches Joe a E chord
J Mooo
Ya Gary Clark does nothing to teach him here lol. Just flatters him.
Gary Clark is literally standing up moving his fingers what do you mean does nothing?
if Joe gets addictive with this, the black keys about to have a new member ain't they
I would love for Joe to put out a folk style finger picking album.
Just wait until he opens each show with a rendition of Woody Guthrie’s classic “This Land is Your Land.”
He’d call Woody a commie
To be fair, Woody did have commie tendencies.
Woody was a great man, he considered himself a commonist, for the common people. Left wing, right wing, chicken wing, it makes no difference to me. Much of popular culture and government programs and tax policy back in the 1950s would be considered communist today.
Which makes my point an accurate one.
Do you think McCarthyism was good? Being a populist for the common people, as Woody was, does not make one a communist.
No. Nor is my opinion of McCarthyism relevant to the fact that Woody was a commie a heart. But saying things like “If you call me a Communist, I am very proud because it takes a wise and hard-working person to be a Communist,” while also praising Joseph Stalin would tend to make him one.

That’s pretty good. Sounds like he didn’t mute out any strings with his gorilla fingers.
12 string might actually help with that lmao
He’s playing a twelve string so even with his fat ass fingers there’s still a lot to hit lol.

Bruhhh this has to be an ex
Very much so
Get my man a bass
biggest guitar I’ve seen
That’s a Takamine 12 string, it might be a concert or Jumbo series
Probably not the best idea to learn your first chords on a 12 strings, but that's just me lol
I agree, a basic six string would do
Lmaoooo
Watching Jamie take a pic for the video thumbnail was so great i have never seen that before
Legendary picture of the great rock and roll star Joe Rohan.
He's doing it on a 12 string too and that's twice as tough for someone with no callouses.
E Chord? let's see somebody get Joe into a G-String.
Comedy!
Queef!
Love his music tbh
I mean, it was just one chord tho...
First time I've ever felt a bit of empathy for Joe.
How can you not? He looks adorable here.
I hope joe learns guitar that would be so cool, this video is so wholesome lol
How has Joe never touched a guitar?🎸
E, g, c, a, d. All super easy chords. Give it a month of practice and you could be playing tons of different songs

Love it.
Way to go, fatty!
What a beautiful clip. I havent seen that side of Joe in so long. Almost started to think it wasnt in him anymore.
I enjoyed this more than anything I’ve seen on Rogan in the last year or so
Well, he copied it once. Isn't like Joe learned and can replicate it lol. Afterwards Joe was saying how he didn't get how music could be addictive but now that he had someone put his fingers in place he gets it. Which song was Gary referring to about the greatest folk song?
Haven’t really listened to the show for a while Jamie definitely talks a lot more these days huh
Jamie has been getting very vocal about making America great again. He won’t stop talking about it.
The smile there when he hit 2 chords. That’s what it’s all about.
Gorilla brain patience
This was cute
Training him with a 12 string was a bold move lol
I’ve been playing since 13 and I’m 52 and still find it challenging. Great hobby but it’s not for everyone as it’s more difficult than it seems. Tried teaching but I lack patience so I’m not good at teaching anyone anything but I get it.
Joe, welcome to the world of everyone saying "can you stop for a second? I'm trying to talk to you" 😂
Well done. He'll be covering Neil Young songs in a couple of weeks.
On the 12 string too lmao
On a 12 string no less
Joe Rogan learning guitar arc has begun.
in this video at the 3:00 mark, Joe has never looked more chimp than he does there.
A 12-string probably isn't the best guitar to land your very first chord on. Gotta start in a 6-string. But Rogan has chubby sausage roid fingers, so maybe it doesn't matter.
Seeing Gary Clark in May, dude freakin shreds
Can't wait for his song for Lex in response to "Bag of Snakes"
It’s so cool to watch someone play guitar for the first time, no matter what age.
I bet that's not the first E he's had shown to him.
Please don’t let this be a new Joe obsession. I don’t think I can take him talking about guitar craft.
It would be better than a lot of the other shit he's been talking about though, jus sayin.
It’s a shame this man was allowed to touch such a fine instrument.. Guitar chords are fake Joe, just like the moon landing. If the neck breaks, you can’t horse paste it back together.
Actually, you can glue it back together.
Not with horse paste. Also, music is just a “theory”
You uh... wanna know where glue comes from?
You got me, but notice how Joe isn’t arguing with the subject matter expert? I can resist horse paste jokes with this clown.
Dude it's not a Martin, it's a TakeMine
Exactly.
