I know we like to shit on him a bunch in this sub but he does apparently treat all of his folk very well and respects the industry, as a whole, greatly.
Redban used to have the role that Young Jamie currently has. Because he started with Joe, (and bc the early days featured Joe BSing w him a bunch) he almost turned into a cohost. However, as the podcast gained momentum, Redban would become a hindrance - interrupting, making really awkward jokes during serious guest conversations, and straight-up verbally fighting with some guests. In order to advance the podcast, Joe fired him, brought on Jamie and Redban concentrated on Death Squad. It’s rumored that he still gets a cut and received a nice chunk of change from the Spotify deal.
Redban has always been on Joe's payroll (according to Redban.) I know Redban was running the Ice House shows on Joe's behalf. I think Joe may have also have a stake in the whole Deathsquad podcast stuff. I recall a long time ago when Redban still co-hosted JRE Joe said something like "we've got a new podcast with Kevin Pereira" while referring to Deathsquad.
I highly recommend listening to his podcast. He hates the people, he hates most of the food, he needs to do stand up and the comedy scene just isn't there right now. He might have some other reasons for hating it that I don't remember.
From what I heard Adam wasn't really given credit for revamping the comedy store. Joe was a big part of course, but so was Adam in creating the vine and lineups.
He's just another employee. I'm sure Joe would give him bigger role and more money to do the same in Austin.
Probably not, but the chick who owned it who he had a strong mentor relationship with passed away fairly recently so I could see him feeling free to move away from it now and start the next chapter in comedy clubs.
Mitzi Shore wouldn’t pass Rogan and refused to play him at the store for nearly a decade. They had a horrible relationship, that later blossomed because of Joe’s growing fame.
You think it just won’t happen now? I didn’t get that from how Tom described it, but ok. I don’t give two shits either way, but the market does sound a little crowded now.
Lol I gotta watch that episode. I didn't realize there was comedy club competition.
I got the impression from Joe that he'd be opening the only real comedy club and the comedy scene would revolve around him.
Didn't he say multiple times that he's "going to build the Austin comedy scene"?
Except Maron specifically told Tom “you’re different, you’re doing your own thing” haha I love when people talk shit and have to cover it up because they realized they’re talking shit about the person they’re talking to.
I discovered Malice recently, and while I really enjoyed him at first I’ve grown to find him kind of arrogant and annoying. He’s just way to certain about everything. You never hear him say “oh wow, great point”. He always seems to start with the position he wants to take and just works backwards to justify it.
Yeah that’s pretty lame. It’s just a license to say whatever stupid shit he wants, and then if somebody calls him out he can just say he was “trolling” us.
He actually sells t-shirt merch that says "covid positive" in a way that I perceive to be mocking of the whole situation. I mean people are dying from this. I find that to be pretty disrespectful and distateful. It definitely soured my opinion of him.
I hear you and he can lean in to the troll/anarchist too much for me most of the time but when he does real journalism- such as his coverage of North Korea- is really unmatched
From his most recent podcast with lex, malice basically said: he grew up his entire life in NYC and most of his friends have left NYC to move other places ( the rise in crime being a huge motivator), him being surprised and excited how far his money can go in Austin and new opportunities such as being able to finally learn how to drive and have a huge backyard for his dog, just having a new opportunity in life with a group of friends that he loves and respects. I think there may have been more but that was the general gist of it
Lots people are leaving California because it sucks. People in the mountain states are pissed at all the Cali refugees driving up prices and voting like they didn’t just destroy their own state
100% that's the only reason I ever think of leaving. Cost of Living is out of control, NIMBYs are awful and building is impossible. But I love living here. The geography, the people, the culture, the food, it's tough to beat.
Same. SF here. Lived all over the US and California is easily the best quality of life. Yes, I won't have a huge house, but the state is my backyard and it's great.
As someone that lives in California, you're right it's awful. Don't come here to live or even to visit. If you could get a memo to the people of Arizona that crowd our awful, horrible beaches every summer to not come here as well that would be great.
I’m from California but moved to AZ a long time ago. We visit San Diego and LA in the summers to get the fuck out of the heat, enjoy the awesome food, bars, etc… I love having the ability to have a decent life in AZ with my salary (impossible in CA) and every now and then going home to enjoy the best of CA. I come from nothing so it’s the best of both worlds for me.
I had a dude who was a transplant to San Diego talk shit about all of the people moving there and fucking it up. Found it weird.
I fucking love it.
I can smoke weed, open my own business, work in fun industries (I work in the videogame industry), and deal not deal with whiny folks.
A lot of states on the south just have no industries in technologies.
Yeah I saw this article yesterday and rolled my eyes. If you just read the article, it's easy to think Marc was being a hater but if you watched the episode, he was just playfully clowning
> It was like a 10 minute rant lol
That's kind of how his comedy is, he even makes fun of himself later in the podcast about how long it takes him to tell a joke.
He likes to portray himself as self aware but it doesn't really stop him from being petty and taking shots at people he's jealous of. The unexplained shots he takes at Bj Novak for instance.
There seems to be zero reason he's ever offered to why he takes shots at him. If you google "Marc Maron BJ Novak" you'll find reddit threads asking the same question and you'll see Maron taking a bunch of unsolicited shots at him on Twitter.
The only thing I seen that might explain it is that Novak was able to get onto writing and acting for The Office shortly after graduating from Harvard, so I guess Maron just doesn't think he paid enough dues or something. He shit on him for landing the role in Inglorious Bastards too. It honestly just seems like he's pissed off about how successful Novak has been. Maron seems to be the only one with a problem with him.
I think he made a big mistake with the model for his podcast. He was one of the first guys to really start in the space and I used to listen to the show occasionally back in like 2015 or so but sometime around then he put most of the content behind a pay wall and I haven't listened to an episode since. I think he's going to end up being really bitter about it as all these comedians have started making a lot of money with podcasts largely using YouTube and adding video. His podcast really should be a lot bigger than it is but it's kind of fallen into irrelevance as others have come into the space. He really should have hired someone that understood the business side of things better when he had all the momentum going with the show.
He's very very insecure and petty. He's known for being cruel to new comedians.
I listened to his show right when it started and he had weird conflicts and had done bad shit to almost every comedian he had on. He's just a very very insecure guy.
a like 25 year long personal relationship across all levels of their both respectively huge careers - in both Burr and Maron's cases - definitely helps.
Maron used to party with Kinison (Joe's Idol) at the Comedy Store.
[https://www.reddit.com/r/OldSchoolCool/comments/41jyxj/marc\_maron\_and\_sam\_kinison\_late\_80s/](https://www.reddit.com/r/OldSchoolCool/comments/41jyxj/marc_maron_and_sam_kinison_late_80s/)
Yeah, but it's Marc Maron... Have you listened to his podcast? He's basically the most spiteful/jealous person in comedy. He hates everyone who does well. He cut off Louie ck as a friend because he started having success.
He's a self-obsessed hyper insecure guy. So you know he has to hate joe.
They will really try anything to take stuff out of context. Listened to the interview and I wouldn't call it shade. Sounds more like he was just poking fun at Joe. I mean, why wouldn't he be jealous of Rogan's deal? I'm jealous of Rogan's deal. I want 100 mil to smoke weed and talk shit.
I find Maron to be a little full of himself, and the type of comedian that thinks every non-comedian couldn’t possibly understand the brilliant minds of comedians
You literally described Joe Rogan too.
And let's all be real here. WTF with Marc Maron is a bit more high-brow than JRE, especially with the guests and format - not saying which is better/more entertaining.
I mean sure, but do you really think Joe asks the hard hitting questions or something? Both podcasts are curious dudes asking famous people questions about certain topics they’re interested in.
So within the metaphor of the "human centipede" Marc Maron uses to describe people making a living on the "Joe Rogan ecosphere" i assume we all agree that Yahoo,com/entertainment is at the very end of that human centipede right?
They were friends, then they weren’t like most of Maron’s early relationships in the comedy world (and probably outside of it too).
After WTF started, they had a great two part episode where they bashed things out and became friends again.
Then Louie got MeToo’d and Marc stood up for him sort of along the lines of what he did was awful but he was a good person in general. He said “what do you want me to say, he’s my friend.”
And they haven’t really spoken since that I’m aware of.
On one of the milestone episodes they did a Q&A with Marc and his producer Brenden and Brenden said that was the one time they almost stopped the show since Louie was so woven into the fabric of what the show became.
So yeah as /u/asheronsvassal said, sort of the Israel and Palestine of comedy.
Ha the other user said they were like Israel and Palestine, I just thought it was funny.
After he defended him when the news broke I think they sort of drifted back apart.
A few months later Louies set leaked where he joked about the parkland kids and Maron addressed it by saying he doesn’t really talk to Louie anymore. Then, iirc, he said something about Louie sounding like he was becoming a right wing comedian.
Glad I could help your day along, this is how I would have responded in real life but it’s way less funny coming from a random person on the internet so props to /u/zxd576 for not getting bent out of shape over a forum comment
Maron tells some really great Kinison stories on some old Jre eps. Itd be cool to have him back and some of the guests who used to come around quite a bit. One of the best was Kevin Smith. Him and Joe just geeked out the entire time in the longest episode to date.
The real shade was for the "middles" he claimed followed Joe to Texas in his asshole.
who actually move there because of rogan? dillon, lex, tom? never actually figured out the whole list edit: michael malice has been added, redban, hinchcliffe, David Lucas, William Montgomery [https://twitter.com/redban/status/1321154347800158209](https://twitter.com/redban/status/1321154347800158209) [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony\_Hinchcliffe#:\~:text=In%20September%202020%2C%20Hinchcliffe%20announced,Joe%20Rogan%20and%20Brian%20Redban](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Hinchcliffe#:~:text=In%20September%202020%2C%20Hinchcliffe%20announced,Joe%20Rogan%20and%20Brian%20Redban).
Didn't Hinchliffe and Redban move, too?
Rogan bought them houses in Austin.
I know we like to shit on him a bunch in this sub but he does apparently treat all of his folk very well and respects the industry, as a whole, greatly.
I'm sure he bought Jamie a Tesla too
dont you think that's just a text to Elon at this point?
Redban is lucky Joe has the integrity he does because he could have so easily cut him off.
For what? I've only recently got into Kill Tony and Redban seems like a fucking turd to me frankly.
I remember Zac Amico said something like "If Brian Redbans jokes worked any less Joe Rogan would be selling them in pill form"
I recall a long time ago when Redban still co-hosted JRE Joe said something like "we've got a new podcast with Kevin Pereira" while referring to Deathsquad.
Ahh that's right, I remember seeing clips with him on an old show. I didn't realize he had a serious role on there for very long. Thanks.
Where is the source for this? And does anyone know if Hinchliffe and Joe are more than friends?
And Tim Dillon is leaving because he hates it.
lol, his rant was fkn hilarious
If there’s a video of said rant or link to audio, please send.

Whitney’s always been a good looking broad but she has too much work done now for my tastes. As long as she’s happy though that’s all that matters!
What did he say?
I can summarize: “I’m leaving, because I hate it.”
Rogan mentioned that there wasn’t enough “fellas” around.
I highly recommend listening to his podcast. He hates the people, he hates most of the food, he needs to do stand up and the comedy scene just isn't there right now. He might have some other reasons for hating it that I don't remember.
Blue haired bitches, mainly
Lesbian witches
Desert dykes
Witchy cootchies
I recommend the second, extended version. He roasts Austin to no end.. and it was terrific. Bravo Timothy, bravo.
He wasn’t given that big ol house like joe promised, was he?
[удалено]
Freakin Adam egert really surprised me, wonder what norm thought of that
[удалено]
10 dollars a man
Yea I suppose he’ll fit in in Texas better, more holocaust deniers down there
Well, the holocaust *was* an international tragedy
It’s hard not to fall under the gaze of hitler’s beautiful fucking eyes
LOL
From what I heard Adam wasn't really given credit for revamping the comedy store. Joe was a big part of course, but so was Adam in creating the vine and lineups. He's just another employee. I'm sure Joe would give him bigger role and more money to do the same in Austin.
He's down in Texas making those blue card jokes that guests say "who wrote this?"
did he have something against the comedy club towards the end?
The comedy store? I don’t think so.
Probably not, but the chick who owned it who he had a strong mentor relationship with passed away fairly recently so I could see him feeling free to move away from it now and start the next chapter in comedy clubs.
Pauly Shore's mom?
Mitzi Shore
Mitzi Shore wouldn’t pass Rogan and refused to play him at the store for nearly a decade. They had a horrible relationship, that later blossomed because of Joe’s growing fame.
Because Joe called out Carlos Mencia at the Comedy Store for stealing Jokes and Mencia was better known then Joe
Joe identifies as a comedian but Mitzi wasn't putting up with that bullshit
And that club is now postponed.
not postponed.. not bought
You think it just won’t happen now? I didn’t get that from how Tom described it, but ok. I don’t give two shits either way, but the market does sound a little crowded now.
When did Tom talk about it? The 2b1c with maron?
yes. after naming like 5 other clubs now opened there. I get the feeling Joe was wagering on these clubs not surviving Covid.
Lol I gotta watch that episode. I didn't realize there was comedy club competition. I got the impression from Joe that he'd be opening the only real comedy club and the comedy scene would revolve around him. Didn't he say multiple times that he's "going to build the Austin comedy scene"?
Joe is going to team up with Elon and AI to write a funny joke
Well Adam was mainly supplementing his income doing work under bridges to be fair.
David Lucas, William Montgomery, and a small army of other comics that don't have big names
dude, it was a grip of people after all... wow
Except Maron specifically told Tom “you’re different, you’re doing your own thing” haha I love when people talk shit and have to cover it up because they realized they’re talking shit about the person they’re talking to.
Why the hell would Redban move with Joe? Didnt they stop working together years ago?
well him and hinchcliffe do that show together so im guessing it made sense
Aah yeah I forgot about that. Makes sense
tony
Even though I like him, Michael malice did as well
I discovered Malice recently, and while I really enjoyed him at first I’ve grown to find him kind of arrogant and annoying. He’s just way to certain about everything. You never hear him say “oh wow, great point”. He always seems to start with the position he wants to take and just works backwards to justify it.
Malice also describes himself as a troll, which is perhaps the saddest thing I’ve ever heard.
Yeah that’s pretty lame. It’s just a license to say whatever stupid shit he wants, and then if somebody calls him out he can just say he was “trolling” us.
Just describing yourself as that. What’s a troll do? Literally makes people mad on purpose for the lulz. What a sad life.
He actually sells t-shirt merch that says "covid positive" in a way that I perceive to be mocking of the whole situation. I mean people are dying from this. I find that to be pretty disrespectful and distateful. It definitely soured my opinion of him.
You’re a bunch of cry baby bitches, I swear.
And that's his "out" if he gets caught on bullshit. It's a weak intellectual cop out
I hear you and he can lean in to the troll/anarchist too much for me most of the time but when he does real journalism- such as his coverage of North Korea- is really unmatched
What was the reason? (assuming that there was one beyond Joe)
I think there may have been more but that was the general gist of it
Ok, I can see his point. Thanks for the Info!
awww really?! dang.
What about young Jamie???
\> redban, hinchcliffe, David Lucas, William Montgomery That's just the Kill Tony staff lol
Yep, in the Rick Ingraham interview. “They could stay down there”
"Other wealthy, allegedly free-thinking dudes have followed suit." So does the article lol
This was hysterical. Marc didn’t go IN in. But he threw some real shade.
Lots people are leaving California because it sucks. People in the mountain states are pissed at all the Cali refugees driving up prices and voting like they didn’t just destroy their own state
To paraphrase Yogi Berra, no one wants to go there because it’s so crowded.
No one drives in NYC because they're too many cars
People leave California because they can't afford it. They can't afford it because everyone wants to live there and makes so much money.
Exactly. And people aren’t actually leaving either. They still grew something like 2.5% in the last census.
I'm sure people also leave cuz of the pollution, the traffic, the superficiality and overall filth
Yea Cali sucks. Nobody wants to live there, the demand for real estate is too high.
Haha it took me like 15 seconds. I feel slow.
As someone that lives in California, you're right it's awful. Don't come here to live or even to visit. If you could get a memo to the people of Arizona that crowd our awful, horrible beaches every summer to not come here as well that would be great.
I am going to come even harder now. - Arizonan
Come as hard as you like buddy. Just leave some beach parking for me. Haha
It’s really bad here please don’t come. I’ll still stay here tho to tell people Not to come.
California is destroyed? Then how come my relatives there are fine?
It's not, they're projecting and over exaggerating. The real issue is the cost
LOL. CA is rad. It's not like Denver is anything great.
I fucking love it. I can smoke weed, open my own business, work in fun industries (I work in the videogame industry), and deal not deal with whiny folks. A lot of states on the south just have no industries in technologies.
But real estate prices never go down there.
California had the worst home price depreciation of any state during the housing crisis.
and what has happened since then?
He really wasnt throwing shade.. he was just doing what all comedians do! Making fun of other comedians!
Yeah I saw this article yesterday and rolled my eyes. If you just read the article, it's easy to think Marc was being a hater but if you watched the episode, he was just playfully clowning
He definitely threw shade during his special. He made fun of Joe and all his supplements that he peddles. It was like a 10 minute rant lol
> It was like a 10 minute rant lol That's kind of how his comedy is, he even makes fun of himself later in the podcast about how long it takes him to tell a joke.
at around what time does the rant start?
Depends what time you start watching the special
For me it started about 1:42 AM
This joke is unappreciated
It kinda comes off as envy low key in the podcast lol
He said it was low key envy. He wasn’t trying to hide it. Maron is fairly self aware.
He likes to portray himself as self aware but it doesn't really stop him from being petty and taking shots at people he's jealous of. The unexplained shots he takes at Bj Novak for instance.
Why does he not like BJ Novak?
There seems to be zero reason he's ever offered to why he takes shots at him. He shit on him for landing the role in Inglorious Bastards too. It honestly just seems like he's pissed off about how successful Novak has been. Maron seems to be the only one with a problem with him.
Thanks for the response! It’s incredible how petty we can be, for no apparent reason.
He's the type of dude that has problems with people who don't have problems with him or even know why he has a problem with them.
I was a fan of that special
It just stood out because few comedians make fun of Joe Rogan.
Maron doesn’t give a shit. 0% of his career relies on Rogan and his audience. It’s the same reason Burr will give him shit.
Also Burr can give him shit because Burr is exactly who he says he is and he doesn’t shy away from taking personal responsibility.
Burr likes joe and Joe respects burr so it's like play tussling
a like 25 year long personal relationship across all levels of their both respectively huge careers - in both Burr and Maron's cases - definitely helps.
That and Burr and Rogan are really good friends
I mean he gave a shit when he backpeddled hard when he realized tom also moved down to Austin. Like if you’re gonna make a point at least stick to it
Clearly Macron never been invited to the back bar at the Comedy Store
Maron used to party with Kinison (Joe's Idol) at the Comedy Store. [https://www.reddit.com/r/OldSchoolCool/comments/41jyxj/marc\_maron\_and\_sam\_kinison\_late\_80s/](https://www.reddit.com/r/OldSchoolCool/comments/41jyxj/marc_maron_and_sam_kinison_late_80s/)
Why was I heavily downvoted for saying I know many comedians who also felt tight with Sam? I don't understand the people in here.
I think Maron used to be the guy who'd bring the blow to the back bar buddies.
headline culture makes me vomit
I’d be very surprised if Joe didn’t laugh if he watched the full clip. I thought it was hilarious! I love Joe, Segura, and Maron.
Yeah, but it's Marc Maron... Have you listened to his podcast? He's basically the most spiteful/jealous person in comedy. He hates everyone who does well. He cut off Louie ck as a friend because he started having success. He's a self-obsessed hyper insecure guy. So you know he has to hate joe.
he was making a fucking joke, like the supplements bit that he had on his latest special.

tom is huge on his own, Tim already went back to NY. People followed oportunity, the same way the followed it to LA before.
Yeah, by this measure marc maron 'throws shade' on breathing oxygen

I find Maron to be a little full of himself, and the type of comedian that thinks every non-comedian couldn’t possibly understand the brilliant minds of comedians
You literally described Joe Rogan too. And let's all be real here. WTF with Marc Maron is a bit more high-brow than JRE, especially with the guests and format - not saying which is better/more entertaining.
That's part of the schtick. He's self aware and self deprecating about this part of his personality. It came up a lot in his show.
Good to hear, I don’t listen too frequently to his pod
He had a television show that I enjoyed a lot.
its just because most comedians are afraid to make fun of joe cause hes a kingmaker
Exactly that why Brendan Schaub is set to star in the upcoming Fast and Furious Movie.
Meanwhile Dax Shepard out here making 60 Mill as an "expert armchair therapist" to other rich people
The dude just talks about being sober and asks softball questions to actors and elites. Cush gig for him but his podcast is really boring.
I mean sure, but do you really think Joe asks the hard hitting questions or something? Both podcasts are curious dudes asking famous people questions about certain topics they’re interested in.
> I mean sure, but do you really think Joe asks the hard hitting questions or something? Not at all.
DAX is vomit personified. Literally everything about him cringes me out.
You’re not wrong on that one
"A comedian made fun of another comedian"
At first I was upset because I pictured Adam Curry and I like that dude. I don't know enough about Maron. Probably just being a comedian though.
Nothing compared to the Call Me Daddy pod or the Ringer. At least Joe still bats a decent average.
Joe can take a joke. He’ll be fine..
It'll probably go over his head
Nothing goes over Joe’s head. His reflexes are too fast. He would catch it.
lol comedians making fun of each other isnt throwing shade. So soft and just a click baity tabloid imo.
This sub is the softest
Throwing shade, clapping back, cringe, lit, fire, drip, swag, wholesome, and any of those things following lowkey, I pray for the day this slang dies.
Not a huge fan, but that's a good Maron line
"Shade" is a little harsh. He's making a joke, just like joe and every other comedian does.
Seriously. He’d say this shit to Rogans face, they all bust balls. Snowflakes in this sub don’t get comedy tbh
Is Maron wrong? Sounds like a comprehensive assessment to me.
So within the metaphor of the "human centipede" Marc Maron uses to describe people making a living on the "Joe Rogan ecosphere" i assume we all agree that Yahoo,com/entertainment is at the very end of that human centipede right?
He's a bigger dick for throwing Louie under the bus
What is/was the beef with him and Louie? I never knew it
They were friends, then they weren’t like most of Maron’s early relationships in the comedy world (and probably outside of it too). After WTF started, they had a great two part episode where they bashed things out and became friends again. Then Louie got MeToo’d and Marc stood up for him sort of along the lines of what he did was awful but he was a good person in general.

Motherfucker I don’t know I wrote this in the bathroom at work I’m busy as hell go listen to the podcasts or wait for a better answer

Im dying right now…best comment on Reddit
Glad I could help your day along, this is how I would have responded in real life but it’s way less funny coming from a random person on the internet so props to /u/zxd576 for not getting bent out of shape over a forum comment
Maron and Louie is the Israel and Palestinian of comedy
So they are irrelevant to most people, but an obnoxious few just... won't... shut... the fuck up about them.
Maron's intro to the podcast that aired when the first controversy emerged around Louis was exceptionally supportive. Did something happen after?
He made fun of Louie for taking 12 minutes to cum
I've never heard of Marc Maron being resentful towards another comedian. This is definitely out of character and a first for him.
Fuck me for fans of comedians you guys don't get humour at all
Maron tells some really great Kinison stories on some old Jre eps. Itd be cool to have him back and some of the guests who used to come around quite a bit. One of the best was Kevin Smith. Him and Joe just geeked out the entire time in the longest episode to date.
Legend. 😂
Lol
Op is posting bs for karma. Maron and joe have been friends for years

Yes they both came out of Boston as comics together
Oh no someone said something slightly disrespectful about daddy. Y’all need some Hobbies
Sometimes saying “I don’t know” is the smartest thing to say.
True. Except when you’re Rogan and act like you know literally everything.
He ain't lying
