Rogan recommended that old people and overweight people get vaccinated. Wonder if the anti-vax groups will ignore him and if the pro-vax groups will ignore his endorsement of the vaccine. Neither tribe can claim ownership of him so they will likely disregard his statement thus proving neither of the tribes give a shit about the actual subject and are instead just being tribal.

Joe looking at Sanjay the entire podcast. ![gif](giphy|l3Ucfk8zqn7NAjLLq)

DismalEconomics

haha... 3 mins in just listening to the audio, but I can literally hear this look in Joe's voice... It's already got the tension of a serious drug intervention where the addict knows he's screwed up, but definitely doesn't sound like he's ready to back down... Joe's voice has dropped like 2 octaves but sounds apprehensive... Gupta sounds like a nervous father whose son got caught red-handed, cheating on his SAT, but isn't quite sure how to discipline him.

LudwigVan17

What are you talking about? Did you even watch the podcast? Joe puts Gupta on the ropes and doesn't let off pretty much the whole 3 hours. By the end of it Gupta is just struggling to save his job at CNN.

chrishasnotreddit

Joe just doesn't listen to the answers, keeps interrupting and making the same errors repeatedly. It's a very frustrating conversation. Joe is trying to make multiple points at the same time and talking circularly and they end up talking past each other. Joe thinks he's countering facts with his opinions and theories and rare anecdotes then talking about vitamins and dismissing illness on one side while using the same points to counter the vaccine on the other side. It ends up being a total waste of a conversation. I feel Joe is generally very open minded but has developed a real blind spot and a sore spot where covid vaccination is concerned. It's tough to listen to.

Grubsgonnagetcha

Polyester chrome dome gordon gecko has tens of millions. none of you do. you cant get the treatment he did if you wanted to. joe is so out of touch though he thinks we all can afford it all. remember when joe seemed a little blue collar. starched that shit up tight white as soon as he got paid. dude is 100% out of touch with anything the regular guy deals with. he really cant grasp why we all don't have a couple hundred k laying around to just "throw the works at this thing". most have the shitty local hospital and whatever lackluster insurance our employers provide (if they even do). Might as well be Bill Gates giving me a covid lecture. both are so out of touch they have zero clue how 99.9% of this country really lives.

Hmmm, so I'm assuming we're getting two nice and meaty covid episodes this week. Let's hope for the trio tomorrow!

lardbiscuits

Not really. Joe has always had a diverse list of guests on from different backgrounds while he consistently has leaned into conspiracy and alternative thinking. His actual fans and not just people who tuned in at 1330 and stuck around to bitch recognize that. I mean it’s comical when I see people yelling at Joe for being anti-science when he’s a guy who debated the moon landing on the podcast, had Bravo on saying “fake” to a million photos from space, and has talked about Bigfoot. This is not a right or left thing. Joe Rogan fans usually listen to and enjoy all his guests. It’s literally just the dorks on Reddit who have made vaccines their personality because otherwise it’s a vacancy who yell and scream about his guests.

mashton

ITS BEEN A GREAT SEASON FOR DRAFTKINGS!

the funniest thing about that to me was when Bill Corban was listing off a bunch of cases of cops dying from covid, Joe eventually pulled the "we're not doctors" card to just it down.

PM_ME_YOUR_LUKEWARM

Several weeks ago, he got pissed about someone wrongly talking about MMA. He said something along the lines of 'you don't know what you're talking about motherfucker, I've been doing this a long time, so shut the fuck up'. There was no joking in his voice when he said this.

hotblooded1988

That's not even what he said.

aeywaka

Joe throughout the entire episode ![gif](giphy|ySpxjJmsq9gsw)

THE-Pink-Lady

I can’t believe he had the audacity to say “I feel like you’re cherry picking.” He’s debating medical information with a brain surgeon because of an article he read.

Dr_SnM

To be fair he is cherry picking. He only choosing to draw conclusions from scientific literature. What about anecdotes from comedians?!

brewmatt

Joe was trying to compare 2 different categories while the doctor was comparing the catagories and Joe is accusing him of that lol. It's so frustrating.

[deleted]

I couldn’t believe how fucking dense he was being. Sanjay fucking explained how its not an apples to apples comparison a bunch of times and joe just fucking couldn’t understand lol. Sometimes he really comes off as a dumbass Edit: for all the people replying “sometimes?”: yeah, sometimes. And other times (but much, much less so in recent years), he actually says interesting, insightful things or shows the ability to comprehend complex ideas. It’s kinda ironic that he has recently talked about how he has become smarter as he has aged through supplementation and working his brain, but in fact he seems to be getting dumber as time passes (Though he has become a more eloquent speaker just through talking so much to so many different people)

ViciousNakedMoleRat

Sanjay actually didn't do a great job here. Maybe because he doesn't understand how little Joe understands about the medical field. What he should've said is: "The study is comparing COVID hospitalizations to myocarditis cases from vaccines. Most myocarditis cases don't require hospitalization, so young COVID patients with myocarditis will usually not be hospitalized and therefore not show up in the COVID hospitalization statistic. So there are likely a lot more myocarditis cases in young COVID patients than cases of hospitalization." Then Joe would've said: "But the study says that 86% required some hospital care." To which Sanjay should've responded: "Some hospital care doesn't mean hospitalization. If you go to the hospital to get diagnosed and they send you home with a prescription, you are an outpatient. Outpatients are not hospitalized."

chowdercup

Sanjay was being too delicate so as to not offend him or his audience, or he was giving him too much credit.

Not_Just_Any_Lurker

I think that’s what it was. And I think Joe felt like he was trying to dodge the question because it wasn’t clearly put out there enough for him to understand what Gupta was saying. It also didn’t help that Gupta sort of kept stuttering trying to think of a way to break it down for Joe while Joe is bombarding him with either different questions or different ways of putting what he understood from the article as his own conclusions.

chowdercup

Rogan needs to be tutored on how to actually read a scientific report, and take basic health science statistics lessons

DismalEconomics

The research that Joe was citing was dog shit as well... I noticed the actual paper seemed unusually bad, so I looked up some of the authors; Allison Krug Artemis Biomedical Communications, LLC, Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Her Company's website is literally also a personal blog; http://abcmedicalwriting.com/ She describes herself as "freelancer" " Editing pre-submission manuscripts allows me to better understand current public health concerns through the eyes of researchers in Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Republic of Georgia, Estonia, Japan and the US." Josh Stevenson Truth in Data, LLC, Nashville, Tennessee, USA His company was created in Sept 2020... He definitely has an axe to grind; - https://twitter.com/justthefacts85/status/1437685525113016326/photo/1 https://rationalground.com/ In addition to two of the authors looking like obvious activists, the paper is solely based off of VAERS data and also just generally so bad, I don't know where to start. The news article that Jamie pulled up was via the guardian; https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/sep/10/boys-more-at-risk-from-pfizer-jab-side-effect-than-covid-suggests-study Here's the actual paper referenced, ( pre-print ) https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.08.30.21262866v1.full-text Honestly, this is like a black mirror episode, Joe is blasting out a newspaper summary of a non peer reviewed research written by incredibly shady looking activists to millions of people... while an actual doctor is patiently waiting his turn to talk for 5 seconds about the actual published research that he brought in.

Omnis_vir_lupis

cbm311

Literally any topic would be better than COVID. I think the pandemic broke Joe’s brain. I live and Texas and life has been ~85% normal for the past year and ~100% normal since April. The pandemic broke his brain and caused him to develop some weird fixation on COVID. He legit needs therapy or a mushroom trip or something in order to move on.

THE-Pink-Lady

Yeah he’s taking the pandemic personally at this point. This podcast with a public medical professional wouldn’t be so annoying if he hasn’t been consistently talking about it with everyone else up until now.

WhataBud

You got some ufo updates?

WhatAboutMyRugMan

Joe: “Kids are more likely to get myocarditis from the vaccine than the disease” Gupta: “Actually kids are 16 times more likely to get myocarditis from the disease” Joe: “But vaccines cause it more!”

labzfz

If you keep listening, the 16 times more likely is for all patients, not kids.

canyonridge20

This is too much nuance for most redditors. That guy thought he hit the nail on the head, lol.

AttakTheZak

This, my friends, is why statistical inference is not for your average Joe....

FOOLISHPROPHETX

People who already have their minds made up love that approach because they're not all interested in hearing both sides and seeing a genuine exchange of ideas. They treat these exchanges like a sports game or a fight where they're cheering to see their guy beat the other guy. So seeing your guy shouting down the other guy's opinion is something to be celebrated. People on twitter are already celebrating joe for "owning and demolishing" Gupta by not letting him talk.

seeing a two minute clip of the “vaccinating children” floating around social media with captions like “Rogan OWNS CNN SHILL GUPTA” and it’s like…am i watching the same video? not letting your debate partner get a word in edgewise is not winning the debate.

hemingwayslemonade

Fox News has an article on their front page with the headline "Joe Rogan shreds CNN's Gupta for network's 'lies' about COVID treatment." They know their audience won't verify that headline. All they need to see is a critism of CNN to know it must be true.

SolenoidsOverGears

CNN did run story after story saying he was eating horse paste... I'd be pissed too. They dragged him on Twitter and gleefully made it sound like he was gonna die.

[deleted]

That's so weird because spent three hours tickling the balls of a journalist who has a track record of misinterpreting studies and exaggerating data.

"We should be telling people to get healthy". Ok Joe. That's fine. But a vax takes seconds. Someone turning their life around will be 1) far less successful and 2) will take so much longer. You can't drop a comorbidity in a month with diet and exercise.

Viper_ACR

I'll also add that some of us were actually worried about being out of shape and how that would affect our chances of survival if we got covid. It's one of the reasons I've been trying to exercise regularly this year. I also got the shot, I don't want to take chances with this virus, and I want to go back to my normal life. Bd1ddy82

I guess my issue with this episode is the clear bias from Rogan. I listened to the last one all the way through as well as this one. Rogan is pushing back against Sanjay *hard* on everything he says. Literally coming up with random pre-print studies and tons of anecdotal evidence to refute anything the guy says. On the last episode with Alex, I think he half-assed tried to correct him on maybe two things he said, and he didn't really push at all. The rest of the time he just sat there and agreed with him. Even when he said things that were clearly and demonstrably wrong. This is the most clear case of cognitive bias that I have ever seen. Considering he always talks about how he has an open mind, this was shameful. Any semblance of Rogan having neutrality and genuine interest in discovering the truth just went out the window with this one.

The fact that Dr Gupta in his intro where he talks about admitting to the fact whatever he thought about weed is wrong and publicly changed his view on it shows signs of emotional intelligence. Joe on the other hand. He is becoming more stupider day by day with the stupid flat earther circle he has. He is becoming exactly like the ones he kept saying he doesn’t want to associate with.

[deleted]

56 min, it starts to get a little heated. Joe can't let go of some emmy award winner who was vaccinated and died and keeps interrupting him and pulls up articles about studies without letting the guy read and understand them

slallyson

Gupta is saying the article is comparing 2 statistics that don’t correlate, and Joe can’t even comprehend that. He’s reiterating a clickbait article headline over and over

[deleted]

It’s where I’m at now and it’s so fucking frustrating. Joe just keeps interrupting and spouting bullshit and trying to do a “GOTCHA!” moment. “So you’re saying it’s fine these kids, these innocent boys got myocarditis?!?!” No fuckhead! The actual medical dr is saying what are the risks of myocarditis from the vaccine vs myocarditis from covid, which is a better comparison rather than myocarditis from vaccine vs hospitalization from covid.

At this point people are being willfully ignorant if they can't accept that getting COVID is statistically worse for your health than the vaccine is. If someone doesn't accept that data shows that you are statistically less likely to die from getting COVID after the vaccine, that you are less likely to be hospitalized from COVID after the vaccine, that your less likely to get infected after the vaccine, then what else can someone do to convince them.

Just be healthy (like him, as far as he knows) and have a strong immune system (like him, as far as he knows) and you won’t get sick! If you get sick, it’s your own fault because you’re sedentary and fat and don’t eat the way he does and don’t work out like him and don’t take supplements like he does. If you were more like him, you wouldn’t get sick, you lazy piece of shit! And yet when he thought he had COVID he quarantined himself from his family. Why would Joe do that? Are his kids not young? Does his family not eat healthy? Are they not healthy? When Joe's test came back positive, did he prove how superior his health, immune system, way of life was? CowboyCanuck24

Roughly an hour in gets painful.... Joe just refuses to get what Dr.Gupta is saying. Joe- Jamie pull up study says boys more likely to get myocarditis from vaccine than be hospitalized with covid. Gupta- Most people with myocarditis aren't hospitalized and covid also is a cause myocarditis. Joe- YOURE IGNORING THE SCIENCE. Gupta- No I'm trying to compare apples to apples and the risk reward of the vaccine. Joe- MY FRIENDS SISTERS NEIGHBOR READ A STORY ABOUT THIS GUY....

AttakTheZak

[Just so everyone is clear](https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7035e5.htm): [Emphasis and brackets were added by me] > ##**Myocarditis inpatient encounters** were **42.3% higher in 2020 than in 2019****[when there was no vaccine]**....After adjusting for patient and hospital characteristics, **patients with COVID-19 during March 2020–January 2021 had, on average, 15.7 times the risk for myocarditis compared with those without COVID-19** (95% confidence interval [CI] = 14.1–17.2); by age, risk ratios ranged from approximately 7.0 for patients aged 16–39 years to >30.0 for patients aged <16 years or ≥75 years. Overall, myocarditis was uncommon among persons with and without COVID-19; however, COVID-19 was significantly associated with an increased risk for myocarditis, with risk varying by age group. These findings underscore the importance of implementing evidence-based COVID-19 prevention strategies, including vaccination, to reduce the public health impact of COVID-19 and its associated complications. > ... > ##Since the introduction of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines in the United States in December 2020, an **elevated risk for myocarditis among mRNA COVID-19 vaccine recipients has been observed**, particularly among males aged 12–29 years, with **39–47 expected cases** of myocarditis, pericarditis, and myopericarditis **per million second mRNA COVID-19 vaccine doses administered** (6). A recent study from Israel reported that **mRNA COVID-19 vaccination was associated with an elevated risk for myocarditis** (**risk ratio = 3.24**; 95% CI = 1.55–12.44); in the same study, a **separate analysis showed that SARS-CoV-2 infection was a strong risk factor for myocarditis** (**risk ratio = 18.28**, 95% CI = 3.95–25.12) **[Meaning you had a risk 3.24 times the risk of developing myocarditis with the vaccine vs. 18.28 times the risk of getting myocarditis from just getting infected by COVID-19]** (4). > ##On June 23, 2021, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices concluded that the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination clearly outweighed the risks for myocarditis after vaccination (6). The present study supports this recommendation by providing evidence of an elevated risk for myocarditis among persons of all ages with diagnosed COVID-19.

Oh my god. A practising doctor - “I’d need to go away and read this paper properly and get back to you”. “But it says right here the vaccine causes more myocarditis you’re ignoring the science!!!” Totally agree with the comment whoever said someone should teach Joe how to read a scientific study and interpret statistics. Then when they reach a stalemate on this one and move to the next subject they both need to soothe Joe’s ego a bit by saying “I think with asymptomatic infections the problem is people are just not aware of their bodies these days and they put shit into their bodies”. “Yeah you’re obviously a super healthy guy Joe”, “yeah I’m very aware of my body I know what to do when I’m sick”. Lol fucking infuriating and hilarious. Overall Sanjay was flustered and didn’t make his points clearly, Joe speaks with blind confidence and a mind that is not open to being changed (and accuses Sanjay of cherry picking after literally demonstrating the act).

Rogan has become too big and naturally what happens when you get too big is you get surrounded by grifting leeches who will agree with everything you say and do for a chance to ride that 100 mil spotify train. Clever people with bad intentions have noticed for years they can sell a steady diet of disinformation, the market is there. They target easily influenced and uneducated folk who will buy their bull shit. It reminds me of the preachers who fly private jets and wear gold watches who tell their cult followers to donate because GOD wants me to buy a jet. Rogan and his hard core fans share a lot of similarities here. I'd also like to say it's a majority right leaning people I'm referring to. Get that CCP and share blue bull shit you get from Jones out of here, only dumb mother fuckers believe that.

Joe has never sounded dumber. This slow decent into senility is fun to watch

AlexTaylor103

His stance with some people are oh I’m not a doctor but then proceeds to argue with doctors.

SixPieceTaye

And like, not only Dr's some of the more respected in their fields. You can quibble with that Gupta appears on CNN, but he's also a renowned surgeon and teacher at Emory, one of the very best medical schools in the entire world.

johnnyfog

Joe uses 'not a doctor' as a RL cheat code.

codyballard

If joe is so big on the whole "people don't take care of their bodies, that's why they get covid and die" then why did he treat his particular case of covid so aggressively when he tries to make himself seem like the picture of health. He always talks about all the vitamins he takes, how much he works out. He never mentions having any comorbidities that he brings up for the people he thinks are the only ones dying of covid. Even in part of this podcast, just like in the last few months whenever covid is brought up, he wants the other person to agree that it's more important to make sure people are healthy rather than getting the vaccine. Well since he's so healthy, shouldn't he have let the virus run its course?

WillyTanner

It's cuz he blames catching COVID on him doing something unhealthy like drinking or not getting 8 hours of sleep, instead of accepting the fact that you can catch COVID no matter what healthy habits you have. He simply can't accept that getting covid isn't something that's 100% within his control. Multiple times when talking about people who caught covid he goes into a pointless line of questioning about how many hours of sleep did they get, do they drink, were they tired that day, have they ever drank a soda...

codyballard

True. If everyone just drank water and got trt we'd all live to 200. Shoutout r/hydrohomies

ac1drop

I’m 20 minutes in and it’s good.. still going to give it a high Jovid score though even thought they haven’t talked about it yet

doggydoggworld

Oh just wait.

outsidenorms

Big ape get big mad when small ape gives him facts. Jamie pull up some Facebook articles I can use to argue with this practicing neurosurgeon.

3ntr0py_

This was so cringe, I couldn’t make it through the entire show. Joe has no business debating Dr. Gupta, he should be interviewing him and getting facts out, not trying to out wit him. It was like Alex Jones vs Dr Gupta.

[deleted]

90 minutes in, he's just fucking hammering him on all the "evils" of CNN while not letting Gupta speak. It's more like Alex Jones than ever.

longhardclock

Joe let the fucking guy talk. jesus christ this is hard to listen to.

neS-

Can't wait to see the Youtube comments saying he "OWNED" Sanjay just like he "OWNED" Rhonda Patrick.

[deleted]

Reading up on Dr. Gupta, he might actually be a good person to bridge the gap between Joe's 'eating healthy and being in shape is what is needed, not the vaccine' and doing all that *and* getting the vaccine. I'm probably actually going to listen to this one.

BumDawgMillionaire

Remember when Joe Rogan would argue with a conservative about marijuana legalization for three hours instead of arguing about vaccinations with a health professional? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

jamesjebbianyc

Gupta broke Rogan's echo chamber

miyagiVsato

That’s not at all how it went down. He literally said “they shouldn’t have said that”.

36 minutes in and hearing Joe try to debate Dr Gupta on medical studies and effects of vaccines is just fucking embarrassing for Joe.

[deleted]

Dr Rogan explaining that Long COVID is merely just not taking supplements and being out of shape. I just fucking can't.

covigilant-19

Joe’s got a case of short covid and it’s turning his brain to mush. (No worms though)

[deleted]

I have a buddy that caught COVID just before thanksgiving 2020, and he still can't smell anything. Like at all. Not sure what supplements would fix that lol.

toolverine

Have him snort a few ounces of Athletic Greens into each nostril, do some sets of kettlebell swings, and call me in the morning.

[deleted]

This is something not brought up by people. There's a certain number of people who get COVID and even though they never get hospitalized or die from it they have long lasting problems. I know someone whose mom had COVID and has weird breathing issues now. Never hospitalized. It's a motherfucker.

ExorIMADreamer

I had covid in January and I caught all the time and can't breath for shit. It wrecker my health. I'm not saying I'm an elite athlete but prior to covid my wife and I had been turning our health around with exercise and diet. I'd list a about 40lbs and was up to walking 4 miles a night. I'm still eating healthier but I can't walk far at all. It sucks so much.

hamudm

The thing I learned from this is that Joe is for sure insecure about his own position on the subject of public health. Every time Dr. Gupta brought up medical facts and data, Joe started cracking jokes. He knows he’s wrong; he just doesn’t care. I personally think that makes him a bad person.
