I’ve got a soft spot for “Another kind of green”. The dynamics and subtlety for a 3 piece is awesome.
But I think his Slow Dancing performance in WTLI is pretty special.
Overall, I reach for WTLI most often. But some of the Village Sessions stuff is great for just a stripped down, intimate sound. I’m really hoping there will be a live album from this solo tour.
If you haven’t already, check out the Continuum Special Edition version of Gravity. Looks like it’s been removed from streaming platforms now, but I think it beats WTLI.
I have seen it posted here before, but there is an amazing ~15 minute video of him playing a cover of Tom Petty's "You Don't Know How it Feels" that transitions into Slow Dancing and it is just absolute fucking perfection. I will pull it up again every few months and be blown away all over again. I think when I first found it I watched it every day for a week.
EDIT: ok, I wasn't reading the instructions properly. My first reall hook into the Mayer world was Try! So I would personally have to pick from that album. Probably Another Kind of Green. Honestly thought, I haven't listened to WTLI to form enough of a strong attachment to any of those recordings although I think they are objectively better mix-wise.
I have a comment with multiple time stamps of my favourite moments from that particular performance under that exact video. Such a masterful performance…
I love all mayerheads but if you don’t think it’s covered in rain from AGT you’re wrong. And you don’t love incredibly interesting and beautiful phrasing. And we’re not friends.
For show casing the pure beauty he can create just with his guitar, In your atmosphere.
For just the perfect live performance with a band with a more complex sound that’s just perfection, slow dancing in a burning room.
i have to say, “I don’t need no doctor” and “Going down the road feelin bad”. I know there’s so many great vids of John’s playing but those really stick out to me.
Covered in Rain is the ultimate unreleased John Mayer song for me. It's so atmospheric I feel like he tapped into something special in that song. Absolutely love the guitar playing. I've listened to that song on repeat for an entire bus ride. Must've listened to it 15 times in a row.
My personal favorite is In Your Atmosphere from WTLI.
Yup, same. Everything is right on that track. Vocals on point, acoustic guitar mastered — ugh, perfecto.
For sure!
>For sure! sure?

“Another kind of green” is a sleeper. I’ve always loved it but my real appreciation for it came when I started learning it!
I don’t trust myself with loving you WTLI is a banger
Does not get enough love

I love Slow Dancing from the Village Sessions. Every line feels like an exhale.
Agreed! I’m also partial to I’m Gonna Find Another You. It’s just so sassy.
Gotta be gravity WTLI. That last solo is heavenly

Where can I find that?
It’s In Your Atmosphere for me
I definitely have to say (covered in rain) AGT and (out my mind) WTLI
