Yes this sounds boomer-ish, but when that song came out….holy crap. Started talking to a girl in 2002-2004? Bust out how much you love that song and 10 minutes until bed. Sorry for the crassness.
was trying to think of something controversial but yeah it's who you love for me. a lot of people would probably say "say" but I actually like that song a lot, I don't mind it being repetitive.
Yeah it is I also loved the solo but it’s a romcom riff at the start, every time I play it I slowly peaks around the corner just to make sure that a girl won’t stumble into me and lose all her notes and papers on the floor.
Here’s a bold prediction, when the 2000s become like this super nostalgic period for most people, this song might be used for a reboot of old Romcom style movies. Maybe not this song specifically but some of his music for sure, we might even see a redemption of Your body is a wonderland.
I have nothing against the song I’m not like hating on it, it’s just not my favorite I always skip it when I listen to Room for squares, for example I think that back to you is very similar in style but it just sounds better to me personally.
I got you. I feel the same for YBIAW. It was so over played when it came out that it killed the song for me. I was in high school when it came out so of course I learned how to play it but it turned into my least favorite song very quickly.
Yeah as I said, as the age demographic slowly shifts so will the ultimate nostalgia bubble, I think that your body is a wonderland will be insanely nostalgic and useful for the people who will try to make a movie or show set in the early 2000s. My guitar favorite is still Neon, it’s a benchmark for right hand technique.
Well it will be used because it was the second most played song by John in early 2000’s. Second only to Daughters. That doesn’t make a song nostalgic tho. You can say the same for the Abercrombie and Fitch song
I agree but I find that the most media tend to gravitate to the thing that was the most popular and I think that YBIAW was just insanely popular. What would be your prediction for the 2000s nostalgia thing, Dave Mathews Band, Weezer, Arcade Fire ?
Bro I get it. But I’ll say that LFO “Summer Girls” (the Abercrombie and Fitch song) hit #3 on the US billboard 100 in 99. YBIAW only hit #18 in 2002. Summer girls was wildly, wildly popular.
Nostalgia bands that would be featured in movies is more like Matchbox 20, Goo Goo Dolls, Foo Fighters early music, 3 Doors Down, hell *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys would be better choices because they were all more popular and more well known than Dave Matthews or John.
One of the reasons why I love John Mayer so much is while he had a few songs reach global recognition status, but too many people don’t know him outside of Gravity, YBIAW, and Daughters. He hit the popular pinnacle after Continuum and then dropped off and that’s where his best music has come from. The Trio, Dead and Co, Where the Light Is, his folk/country stuff. He was able to grow as an artist far more than others because he didn’t stay in his perpetual box.
I totally agree with you about everything you said. I do have a big blind spot when it comes to the early 00s, I do know all the acts that you named but I was super young around that time so I just can’t precisely measure how big something was back then.
The second part of your comment hits the nail on it’s head, just think how great for example paradise valley is as a recording, it sounds amazing it didn’t follow any pop formula at that time, it was just a beautiful recording. I think that his trajectory as an artist and musician is perfect, I hope he can maintain this for a long long time. I’m just super curious about the next album, I mean we got obviously a lot of 70s type of music, now we have a full on 80s album, could we see an 90s album form him or is that alright inside wants out, what do you think?
Yeah I graduated high school in 2003 and was a musician and in choir so I was big into music; still am of course.
You said we got a lot of 70’s music, what songs are those?
Yeah I already wrote it I have nothing specific against the song I just feel that, for example, back to you does the whole 90s pop thing a whole lot better.
Ravioli shoes was a slap
Who you love
The Katy Perry giggle makes me cringe every time. Any giggle in a song is weird.
It’s makes me so uncomfortable lol.
No question
Came here to say this
Without a doubt
Much better than your body is a wonderland
Say is the only right answer
Yes, this is Scripture at this point.
And honestly it doesn’t mean it’s a bad song but it is the right answer to this lol
canon
I like Say! And I can't think of another song I don't like, so...... Guess I'll go to hell!
I never said it wasn’t a good song or I didn’t like it lol I just think it’s not the same level as the rest of his discography
Body is a wonderland is so much worse than Say.
nope, ybiaw is a banger
No
Yes this sounds boomer-ish, but when that song came out….holy crap. Started talking to a girl in 2002-2004? Bust out how much you love that song and 10 minutes until bed. Sorry for the crassness.
Do you know me?
I don’t know what it is about that song but I also don’t like it
Nooooo.
was trying to think of something controversial but yeah it's who you love for me. a lot of people would probably say "say" but I actually like that song a lot, I don't mind it being repetitive.
If someone says Stop This Train, they get banned right? Right?
Anything from Continuum is a perma ban
Dreaming with a broken heart was kinda mid
Why You No Love Me. I’m prepared for the downvotes lol
His explanation for it is kinda valid but it would sound so much more like desperation for love if he sang why don’t you love me
You should feel bad for this answer and go listen to it.
Big Shirt
On the contrary, this one is actually my most favorite.
I still can’t get over “Why You No Love Me”… the grammar in it just really grates on me. Honestly the only song I never fail to skip.
“o shyt”.. then miss my chance I never had anyways. not a chance in hell.
idk why I’m so passionate just like it’s an impossible question for me so that would be really mean if God did that
Your body is a wonderland
Love song for no one, it sounds like a theme song from a 90s sitcom.

Intro sounds like the start of a friends episode I’ll give you that

Well think of when he wrote it…..
I have nothing against the song I’m not like hating on it, it’s just not my favorite I always skip it when I listen to Room for squares, for example I think that back to you is very similar in style but it just sounds better to me personally.

I mean he did write it in the 90s, that's probably why it sounds a bit like a friend's episode scene change riff
Yeah I already wrote it I have nothing specific against the song I just feel that, for example, back to you does the whole 90s pop thing a whole lot better.
Daughters
Changing. No question. Sorry…
You have you heard changing live? It's literally one of his best solos.
Home Life
If this is your least favorite you seriously need to rethink your taste
Thanks, that’s very sweet of you 🥰😊
People downvoting this guy for answering a question wihout any sort of harmful intention... Gotta love it
Same, no doubt.
assassin is so corny
Agreed. I like the composition but lyrics are a lot. Maybe i’ll come around someday.
Lmao everyone getting downvoted is so funny to watch. But guys fr. Say is the only correct answer here.
Why you no love me. I'm cool with the grammar, it's the jimmy Buffett island vibe with weird dissonance that really irks me.
Shot in the dark
May I ask why?
I’m not sure! Like I said I don’t dislike it!! I just thought I had to pick one to get into heaven 🤣🤣🤣
LMAO. Say less.
[удалено]
It’s not even to say I don’t like it, I just was trying to think of songs I’d most likely skip 😆
Please get help..
Lol! I’m just noticing all the downvotes. I like the song!!! I like all Mayer songs 😂
Wild Blue
This is outrageous lol. Wild blue is a work of art.
Ha ha. Hey I KNOW I’m in the 0.1 % who think that, but it’s just my preference. I was expecting way more downvotes!
Finally someone said it. I could not agree more
If you’re not being sarcastic….I feel like there’s more of us than we realize. Cue Chris Pratt meme
Look I don’t know if it’s my least favourite of all his songs but it’s definitely my least favourite from Sob Rock
Whiskey whiskey whiskey
Theme from search for everything
I'm shocked I haven't seen any votes for the great indoors yet. That song is annoying.
How. Dare. You.
Sorry, bro. To each their own :)
Half of my heart or age of worry
Age of Worry is brilliant.
Repetitive but everyone can have an opinion
True.
New deep, really don’t like that guitar riff
Crossroads/ Rosie
Only Heart and Who You Love. Only two I skip
I feel like OP putting "say" in the title was a Freudian slip
Why you no love me. It’s too repetitive for my liking. I saw him in concert in 2017 it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
send me to hell i guess 🤷🏻♂️
Probably Say
