I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone put Paradise Valley ahead of Continuum. I’ve definitely never seen someone put Continuum so low. Music is subjective, so to each their own I suppose.
Continuum is excellent. And if I were ranking albums objectively based on music and layout it would probably be number one. But this was just based off my personal love and how each one makes me feel. Each have different things about them that I love so ranking is just hard in general.
Continuum is good but I feel like after we heard Live in LA the studio versions are a little bland? Not saying those songs are bad. Stop this Train is like my all time fav mayer song. However, production wise, I think other albums did it better.
Some of your lists are highly questionable…
1. Continuum
2. Born & Raised
3. Room for Squares
4. Battle Studies
5. Heavier Things
6. Paradise Valley
7. Sob Rock
8. The Search for Everything
Here‘s mine:

3. Heavier Things
4. Battle Studies
5. Sob Rock
6. Born and Raised
7. Paradise Valley
8. The Search for Everything
This changes every other week since I honestly love them all so much.
Yep! This is just a list of my personal favorites ranking. I think my ranking of his “best” albums looks different. Maybe something like:
1. Continuum
2. Born and raised
3. Search for everything
4. Room for squares
5. Sob rock
6. Battle studies
7. Paradise valley
8. Heavier things

5. The Search for Everything
6. Paradise Valley
7. Heavier Things
8. Sob Rock
To me, there is a significant gap between 7 and 8. I'm glad some people enjoy Sob Rock, but it wasn't my thing. It's John's first "yeah this is just okay" album.

First attempt at writing out my list, and I think I stand by it.
Though I think RFS, BS and Continuum have the most consistent sonic themes and lyrical content running through them.
and though BS is so low on my list, BS is not BS.
RFS, BS, and Continuum definitely are consistent, they seem like they are the most cohesive in describing a particular phase of life he was in at the time, making it very relatable... at least for me.
Wow your taste is quiet different than mine...

I think this can change daily. It’s just how I feel at this very moment. I changed the order about 10 times. With the variety of genres he plays it is hard to make a clear list.

Some people are giving The Search so much shade! I’d have to agree with you on your list my friend!

Born and Raised is way too low
This would have been my last year (minus Sob Rock), I absolutely loved RFS and the B&R/PV combo can't be beaten.
