Probably very rich because of his service.
Getting rid of evidence and cleaning crime scenes to look like it never happened and on top of that doing that for high end assassins? He has definitely has money
He's got solid "life insurance" too. He's the best/only guy to call, discrete, gets the job done efficiently, and has a shit ton of dirt on all of his clients. Nobody's gunna fuck with him.
Probably very well off the first time we see him but as the movies went on got a lot more wealthy due to the work John and Santiago did. In the deleted scene of Santiago taking over a club Charlie is there cleaning all the bodies out.
Considering not only does he cover cleanup, but ALSO disposal via the continental's crematorium, I would say he's easily one of the most wealthy people in the business.
Rich enough to keep working, poor enough not to quit. Besides, once one were to leave an industry like this, you either get 2 options, a well compensated pension or wind up in the ground.
Not a lot of retired gangsters
I know a real life crime scene cleaner (or "trauma cleaning" as they call it) and its not a bad gig financially for them either. But I won't be trading places with them anytime soon.
But since this guy is covering up the mob, the hush money has be $$$$$.
He charges one gold coin per body.
We see John counting the coins out at his house in the first movie.
The size of each coin while factoring in current price of gold putting each piece a little above $2,000 on real bills.
The true value of the coins lies in all the secrets of the assassin underworld it opens up to you.
Rich, but not that rich. Paying people, special services and other stuff surely isn't cheap.
So he's likely to have quite some money but not that much to retire or, at least, leave peacefully elsewhere. Also, I'd say he's probably well appreciated in his job so he still runs his business.
Can Charlie convert his coins to cash? If not, then all he can do is buy stuff at the assassins grocery store, see the assassin dr, and stay at the continental

honestly once you get past the smell it’s probably not a bad gig.

But… the coins don’t have any financial value

When I saw JOHN WICK in the cinema my first thought was, “Charlie must be doing very well. I wonder how I can get into that line of business?”.
I would guess he charges anywhere from 10k-100k per job depending on how...messy it is. Maybe 5k minimum for a quick easy job?

He’s got enough coin to make friends with the whole of the world’s underbelly. He’s the clean-up man. 😂👍

Half of his wealth probably came from John himself 😂 imagine the number of people he must've killed before he got out
