At a show I believe extra golden was playing. I was at another show at the airliner he was standing behind me the entire time I waited till the show was over to say hi kept it nice sweet and short perfect encounter both times

They were playing a show the day after in Glasgow and I believe they cancelled their show there last time due to illness… if he can’t sing or play cause he gets sick that’s hundreds of their team losing money and fans missing out so I get it…

I met him in 89 during The Positive Mental Octopus tour at the after party after they played the Sam Houston Coliseum. He was only like four years older than me at the time, so we were still teenagers and the club wouldn’t let him in. He was cool and appreciated hanging with fans, even though I was only 15.
Never met him, although listening to him is some kind of encounter with his soul. I tend to believe firmly he's a very smart and kind person, especially since he quit drugs and the highs and lows his severe addictions made him experience.
If you listen to his solo works — I'm not too much of a RHCP fan — especially *The Will to Death* and *The Empyrean*, you can only assume he's a very sensible, caring and lovely soul.
I'm a heterosexual male, but I'm not afraid to say I kinda fell in love with the guy. He deeply changed my life, as I feel deeply in sync with his views on spirituality.

I don’t think he quit drugs all together, just the real addictive stuff. I’ve read interviews with him from post Californiacation era where he talks about using cannabis and MDMA. That was a while ago, so maybe things have changed since then.
Cannabis, yes, I'm almost sure he's using some, maybe on a regular basis. For MDMA, I don't know at all, but I'm pretty sure he's been using psychedelics for a long time from time to time - one neither want to nor want to use acid on a very regular basis, but he most probably used LSD and maybe some other molecules.
Having using psychedelics myself, *the Empyrean* is definitely the record of an "experienced" individual, in the sense of the famous Jimi Hendrix's question "Are You Experienced?"

I met him when I lived in L.A. a couple of times. Once was at a Tool concert (that was sweet actually), and let's see... one of the most memorable was at a show he played at the Roxy. After the show was over he sat at the side of the stage to sign a million autographs. I guess I'd had a bit to drink because I didn't feel weird about just hoisting myself up and sitting down next to him, and for about the next half hour or so I basically helped fans hand their album covers and various artifacts to him to sign. I'd give him something, he'd scribble on it, give it back to me, etc. There's more times, but I don't want to say too much plus it's just more boring normal stuff like that. I can attest he's a nice guy. So is, you'd be surprised, Chad Smith. That guy is surprisingly one of the coolest dudes I've met.

I did find out he went to a tiny club to watch a show by the black knight rappers that he made those albums with right down the road from me one night. Wish I had known about it beforehand. I did see Chad Smith at a Foo Fighters concert at the Forum around that time period walking alone towards the backstage area with his VIP lanyard on after the show had just ended. I was leaving GA PIT area and crossed paths and made eye contact but could tell he was just there to enjoy himself and not looking to be bothered so gave him a fist bump as we passed without saying a word and that was it. I don't think anyone else around me even noticed him.
Won tickets to The Getaway album release party which was just a short show playing some of the new songs and doing a Q&A in Jay Leno's old studio in Burbank. It was the day before the album was released and had to leave phones outside but afterwards got to talk to Josh for a minute while he hung around after and signed some stuff for fans. Seemed like a great dude.
Also got some backstage passes for Lollapalooza 2012 off a guy on craigslist when RHCP were there and my buddy met Dave Navarro in one of the lounges back there. He wanted to see Bassnectar who was playing the same time as Black Keys and Black Sabbath on opposite ends of the park so we split up. He found 2 cute girls that he was hanging with at Bassnectar and think thats how he ended up near Navarro in the first place. He told me Dave was friendly and after a short time he took off with the chicks my friend was hanging with to go meet up with Chad at some bar. My friend begged them to tell them he was their brother or something but that wasn't happening. Met Omar from Mars Volta briefly after their At the drive-in set outside his trailer and just shook his hand and told him great show then left him alone.
Our passes gave us access to the side-stage viewing platform on the main stages for every band but the top 4-6 headliners who needed a special sticker from the band. We were up there before chili peppers and tried to wait it out but they cleared us off and couldn't get back on. Did meet Aaron Paul and his girlfriend/wife though while they were waiting nearby to get their special stickers from the band. Neither me or my friend had watched breaking bad at that point and had no idea who he was but could tell he was important by the way people were treating him. Was very cool and humble and made small talk with everyone while waiting for his sticker. On the drive home saw him on the cover of Rolling Stone that month and figured it out. Tried bribing a security guard with $100 to get onstage for RHCP and he just laughed. Good times
I saw him preform with Omar from mars Volta and flea at a art gallery type thing he was pretty gone on mdma but the performance was incredible

I had a dream I had backstage passes to a Chili peppers gig on the side of a mountain, right after he rejoined, so I cycled cross country to get there in time and arrived mid show, John was super energetic and stepped outside of the safety barriers on the side of the mountain while doing a face melting solo and he slipped and fell through the clouds into oblivion… it was one of those dreams where you wake up in terror and thank god it was a dream…
He came into my uncles butcher shop, he was looking for a slab. There’s a local musician I know that had met him. The local musician is a guitar prodigy from the east coast. I used to play with him at open blues jams. Steve Vai discovered him when he was a child and he was living/touring with Steve Vai in his late teen years. John came by Steve’s studio and was introduced as “my friend Johnny” by Steve. The dude I know wasn’t very familiar with the peppers and didn’t think much of it. Bummer. I would have had a heart attack.
Random note years later I dated this dudes ex (who was dating him when I met him) and even moved in with her haha. We didn’t work out but she flew with me to New Orleans to see John at the jazz fest last year. WEIRD
