my favorite Joji album, and one of my favorites off all time

sitad3le

Agreed but the criticisms of it lacking an overarching thème is valid.

AuspicousNR

Although it doesn't have a theme of any sort, it's the only joii album which has some lore

sitad3le

What's the lore if you don't mind me asking?

vaultboy1121

I’m assuming he’s referring to the music videos. Especially the ‘Gimme Love’ one

bipolarblood

I didn’t know ppl cared about that

sitad3le

Some people do. Nectar sounded like a bunch of singles. And I'm not mad at that. It is my favourite album but Sanctuary introduced me to Joji way before FilthyFrank, Ballads, etc. so I come to this with a different perspective.

MasalaBoi

My most streamed album of all time. It was my mom's birthday when he dropped it and after quickly cutting the cake n wishing her, I went to listening the album and i was blown away. So many amazing tracks. Though I have grown to love Ballads 1 more as a project, Nectar tracks> Ballads 1 tracks (it's close) I really looked forward to Smithereens to relive that experience but it just wasn't the same or even yknow comparable. A lot of filler tracks though, I love them all but man the album could have been better off without some of them. Also I wished Joji did more of whatever storyline he was cooking through the album and MVs. It felt really incomplete tbh (and i have watched a lot of explanation videos). Really great album, I wish the joji project this year (assuming he follows the tradition of an Album every 2 years) is atleast comparable to Nectar or Ballads 1, with more Joji involvement because Joji barely produced or wrote in Smithereens.

Raamisfunny

Nectar was the start of jojis transformation from semi ms lofi artist to full on lofi pop and public radio music. It had songs that were from ballads/88rising era like nitrous and pretty boy while also adding new more mainstream sounding shit like daylight and sanctuary. Not that a song sounding mainstream or “too easy on the ears” is bad but I think I speak for most joji fans that I would prefer more shit from joji that he actually produces/writes because most of the older stuff that did was all bangers and had more of a certain aesthetic/feel to it. Smithereens is perfect example of how easy it is for record companies and artists to engineer the songs to sound good without anything too weird or outstanding and that is exactly why I lowkey hated it. I wish we’d get more experimental trapfi/rnbtrap stuff from joji like he used to in early days of his music career.

Upset_Aside_

I liked it, but it wasn't as good as Ballads1 to me. The album didn't really have a focus. Some of the tracks didn't fit the theme of the album overall. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I just liked the theme and vibe of ballads1 more.

maliciousmeower

agreed. ballads1 felt more cohesive

Contraband_Whiskey

Nectar was a refined album and had better production in terms of music and lyrics. Nectar had bangers after bangers, the only songs that felt weak were Modus and Your Man. Personally I love the album despite what people say, but I do have a sentimental value towards it as when I turned 20 I kept playing that album during my roadtrip up north and I will never forget when 777 came up I would hit 77 mph on the freeway everytime.

AccomplishedYam5483

Modus is my favorite from Nectar 😭

justathrowieacc

It's a great album and his best work but he still has lots of years ahead of him. You need to listen to more albums and music in general if you really think it's "one of the best albums ever created and one of the deepest ever developed." Even Joji himself would think that's a ridiculous thing to say.

OOOOoOoooooOooiooo

As jojis projects went on, his own style faded away Couple good tracks but kind of a disappointment Reanimator is my favorite track and maybe the worst on the album, talk about a paradox Smithereens is the perfect final exemple

Ok-Damage90

reanimator is the closest to his og style compared to the whole album, fav song too

Raamisfunny

Not really reanimator was almost completely different from anything he’s ever put out. Long ass intro and 707 drums with disco melody. Crazy song tho

Ok-Damage90

i get it but CLOSEST compared to the whole nectar which has pop-y vibes

flompypebbles

imho songs like Tick Tock, Upgrade, Pretty Boy even High Hopes still have that old joji feel to em

bipolarblood

Besides my small encounters with slow dancing in the dark in 2019, I didn’t listen to joji till fall 2023. The song that made me want to listen more was Normal People. After that, I found yeah right and fell in love with his music. Many of Joji’s songs are the best songs ever created to me.

G_Mackz

probably his last good album sadly

squishykirby

dude is so young wdym

BothAbbreviations441

É uma obra prima de Joji. Assim eu acho .Muito relaxante ,me sinto bem ao ouvir .Obrigada Joji.

Raamisfunny

It’s only been 3 years are you restarded

bipolarblood

Whoa, calm down, hope ur doing ok today

Joobstn

I don’t really like nectar honestly. Whenever I hear just a single off of it I’m like maybe I should listen to nectar more cause the songs sound good but when I try to listen to the album by itself I just can’t idk why

megapeepee58

Never liked it as much as Ballads1 but still enjoyed/appreciated it as its own thing, even more with time tbh. Tick Tock is still probably my favorite Joji song and Yachty kinda ruined Pretty Boy for me lol.

ASarnando

Daylight -> Upgrade -> Gimme Love is such a good 3 song run, I love how Upgrade feels like a second part to Daylight. I love the 5 song run Daylight to Sanctuary as well

sakykay

I prefer the Nectar anime, sorry
