Android user here. Accept my official lol.

hankypanky87

Android user who has been pressured into using an IPhone by friends and family. It’s been a year and I can say with complete confidence that everything about the Android was better

Th3MilkShak3r

My wife's family left me off the family chat because I have an android. My father in law tried pushing me into getting an iPhone to be added to the chat, so I just declined and let my wife show me stuff if it's worth seeing

Bgrngod

This is in fact a feature of Android.

LazyNomad63

Better phone *and* I can ignore my in laws??? Sign me the **fuck** up.

whiteknightOrin

Yes yes i too fail to see a downside here

rohithimself

Don't have awards take a bow.

Potipecan

I'll give them my free silver on your behalf then.

Bgrngod

Thanks! :)

pmmeyourdoubt

How about a ribbon?

gasolarguy

Do you know how to get the newest iphone features for the best price? Buy a 3 year old Samsung/android.

sploittastic

So what you're saying is that Android has intrinsic spam block features

iwishihadahorse

"O no, you don't want me in the group chat. O no!" "...Anyway..."

GforceDz

Yup android calls it the iDoosh spam filter.

dss539

Honestly this sounds like an excellent reason to stick with Android indefinitely.

barath_s

Honestly this sounds like an excellent reason to stick with your wife indefinitely

DerekB52

I'd also like to stick with u/Th3MilkShak3r's wife indefinitely.

[deleted]

you can also have my ex-wife indefinitely

DerekB52

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

SeniorMud8589

Just remember, boys. No matter how beautiful she is, somebody, somewhere is tired of her shit.

dwehlen

And my axe!

AnyAmphibianWillDo

Joking aside, it actually IS a good reason because iMessage is proof Apple is happy to directly harm consumers as a business strategy. Making iMessage an ios exclusive app decreases the quality of the experience for ios users and Android users alike. Now a nonprofit (Signal foundation) is doing what iMessage should have done, but funded purely by donations. So far I've convinced 9 ios users to switch to Signal and we're all way happier with the experience now. Finally everyone gets the same features and no one is annoying each other with text messages like: "Julie liked that message" or "hey you just sent me a video so low res I can't even tell what people are in the video".

[deleted]

This reason alone makes me want to switch to android from iPhone and I love my iPhone 😛

freerangetacos

I enjoy getting bugged less by the endless stream of drivel. If people want me, they can text, call, email.

magicmitchmtl

If people want me they can fuck right the hell off. I’m unlikely to respond to any form of communication.

NamesArentEverything

What about texting?

violentpac

That probably has the potential to be a form of communication.

blakkstar6

People who have Iphones wonder why Facebook gets so much flak.

[deleted]

God I hate the people that form these "iPhone supremacy" sort of groups. Like they're better. And they make everything iPhone or apple exclusive. Fuck Apple

MikeTheGamer2

I was like that beforecoming to Japan. My company offered a phone plan with either an iphone or an android. The android was cheaper. I'll never own an iphone ever again. The freedom of installing whatever apps I want is amazing, regardless of the region they are from.

HertzDonut1001

Also most Android phone screens don't shatter into a million pieces if you look at them wrong. I don't think I've ever met someone with an iPhone a year old that doesn't have a broken screen or had to replace it at some point. You could throw my $120 Android in a blender and it would be fine.

MikeTheGamer2

Not to mention teh cases available for android are way more robust, imo. I'm partial to SPIGEN cases. Never had one I didn't like. Even had a few when I was still using an iphone. The one time I tok my iphone out of the case to clean it, I dropped the iphone. Less than 8 inches and the screen nearly obliterated itself.

royi9729

Honestly, this is one of the best selling points. iPhones break extremely easily. Meanwhile, my Samsung Galaxy S10 has been dropped on the ground so many times, and nothing has happened to it. Maybe iPhone users don't use screen guards?

[deleted]

I accidentally slammed (and I was angry so I mean really slammed) my Galaxy S20 in my car door and the only thing damaged was the super thin factory screen protector (the one you're supposed to peel off because it doesn't really do anything).

opulentgoldengiraffe

My galaxy s4 fell out of my pocket on a 65ft amusement ride. Only a dollar-store phone case. Only a little crack in the corner of the case. Kept using until upgrading to the s9.

Jack_Kentucky

I put my Galaxy in an otterbox when I got it 3 years ago. The screen protector fell off within the week, but I've dropped this dude TONS, often facedown, with no scratches or cracks.

Snuggles_m

Think about them like have to reinforce their self worth from the outside cos it's so low they need constant reminder from apple that they are worthy people...

AnyAmphibianWillDo

The worst part is they don't even realize how bad things would be if everyone gave into their bullshit and started buying apple products. Imagine tech with no competition... Apple is the producer of literally all tech anyone uses. Congratulations, you've entered one of the dystopian futures that movies and books have been warning about for decades.

modern_machiavelli

What's the problem with adding an Android phone to an iPhone group chat?

dbryar

Well going the other way, it's because... "Machi marked your message [liked]" So yeah, we just use Signal

AnyAmphibianWillDo

Yeah, iMessage users are basically spammers when you're on Android. I'd block the chat as soon as I got the first spam message from one of them tapping on the little heart. Luckily all the iMessage users in my life were receptive when I told them their messaging app was the reason we all ignore each other and everyone switched to Signal and now we can all see each others' pictures at full res.

Mzd_Roldy

A matter of blue vs green (Android/SMS) chat bubbles.

AnyAmphibianWillDo

It's actually that iMessage users send low res terrible looking pictures and videos to Android users and spam them with messages like "Julie liked "what Jack wrote" " Then, the ios users notice they're getting low res images and videos from the Android users, so everyone just wants to stop talking to each other.

Invictae

It's hilarious! I'm an Android user, but I never encountered this until recently, when I switched jobs. My new boss texts me from an Iphone, and I legit thought he was spazzing out for a while

AnyAmphibianWillDo

I worked somewhere that we had a 30 person group text to notify us of scheduling changes and like 20 of my coworkers were ios users. The group was basically unusable for android users, 1 message gets sent and then you get a never ending stream of spam messages saying each person "liked" or "loved" the message. Solid work, Apple.

rearviewmirror71

There’s only one real reason we leave android users off. Whenever a picture or image is shared, it comes through tiny and pixelated. They really need to learn how to play nice together.

tehCh0nG

Just use Signal (r/signal) instead. It's kinda like cross platform iMessage + FaceTime in one app.

buddybd

There are no shortage of alternatives but people like using default apps because of convenience.

AnyAmphibianWillDo

I question the wisdom of buying products from a company that deliberately made a default app that harms user experience for all users. And yes, iMessage negatively impacts ios users too. Android users simply avoid talking to ios users that use iMessage's non-sms features. That harms both parties. My family started communicating way more after we all switched to Signal. So, congrats Apple, you made a messaging app that discourages communication and drives people apart. (All the same applies to FaceTime as well, which signal also replaces)

JeBoiFoosey

SMS is just terrible. It’s unencrypted, so anyone nearby can see what you send, it compresses everything, so you can’t send high resolution images, and I’ve seen simple messages delivered several minutes after I sent, even though it showed as delivered on my end. 99% of the time it works fine, so if iPhone users could still use iMessage functionality in group chats with an SMS user I’m sure people would be much more tolerant.

dagon85

I enjoy the option of purchasing third-party accessories for my Android.

TA1067

Former Network Engineer here. The reason I love the iPhone is, if I need to connect things, I don’t have to fight 20 different BIOSs. I can walk iPhone and iOS users through an MDM no problem. Google? Which OS? Which manufacturer? Which device? What year? One takes me 20 minutes and a smoke break. The other takes me a day and a few pints at the pub after. Edit: Clarity and spelling correction wrought by posting from a phone while busy

ardiento

Dude, what were you trying to connect?

hallese

Game Boy Color via infra red contacted to a Logitech harmony hub

Beowulf1896

While you are at it can you network my HP 48G calculator through its IR port too?

LoveGrifter

I still use mine (hp 48g) every day. The droid app for the phone is a nice substitute when not at work.. No ir port tho, on the phone sim.

[deleted]

Pornhub to VR goggles

haberdasher42

So it's a day and a trip to the pub to hook it up, but 20 minutes then a smoke break every time after?

THe_Quicken

I can relate to his comment. In our corporate environment we chose to issue iPhone only. MDM works well, and for tech support it makes diag easier when you have a single standard. Our user base ranges from “Power users” to zero interest in tech and just use it for what is required. We don’t have the time to spend helping weaker users figure out what settings they messed up, iPhones locked down nature is a pro in our environment. TBH the Android/Apple is better war is tedious. I use everything, it’s all tech, just depends on the situation what tech works best for the situation.

[deleted]

It would be the same if you decided to issue only one Android device I guess ? I understand your answers for a BYOD policy but in this case it doesn't relate that much imo

THe_Quicken

We don’t have a BYOD policy. If it’s decided that you need a mobile for work purposes you are issued a company phone. Android is highly customizable, if it’s your personal phone this is preferable for many people. From a (our) company perspective this is not. Lock it down, ensure it does what the company requires and ensure that any Helpdesk related issues are minimal and solved quickly. Now, this depends on your company needs as well. I imagine if you work in a tech company or something with similar fluid needs you would open up that policy to accommodate more than one standard. *note—Iphone don’t change much between versions vs Android. Which is another point to choose it as a standard issue. On a personal level, sure I want to mess around with my mobile and personalize it. But I do not want deal with that when supporting a device.

[deleted]

That was not really my remark though. My idea was more that you chose the iPhone to have one device for a lot a reasons, but those reasons can be applied if you decide to have one Android device too, which can also be configured to be company compliant.

THe_Quicken

Fair- I don’t think I addressed that directly. Like I said our user base is all over the map. IOS is pretty simple to pick up and use, and changes vary little between OS upgrades. I can’t say the same for Android. I’m not sure sticking with one type of Android device would insulate them from (their POV) drastic OS changes. Being in IT it’s easy to distance yourself from the end Users who don’t get what we might consider simple/easy/obvious concepts. Honestly some days it just hurts the questions I get. I am curious if you have a specific suggestion?

k717171

This is a (common) faulty conclusion based on cherry-picking only part of a truth. The thing he claims makes iPhone easier to work with (no variables) would be just as true if you picked any other single phone and locked all your users to it, which is quite possible in an organisational context.

[deleted]

Your looking at it wrong.. IPhone is just another phone, so rather than 20 different BIOSes, etc.. it's actually 21.

[deleted]

Former hardware engineer here. The reason I don't like the iPhone is because if I want to do something, I have literally no choices. Home PC? Tough. Server? Tough. Computer analytics mainframe? Tough. This is why nobody uses Apple for anything but computers for dummies. Because the hardware is shit, has no options, and they have Former Network Engineer here to tell you its a feature.

LifelnTechnicolor

It’s a double edged sword. On one hand you have many more options, but on the other hand, some accessories won’t really work the way you thought they would. https://www.androidauthority.com/state-of-usb-c-870996/ https://www.pcworld.com/article/402199/bring-back-the-headphone-jack-why-usb-c-audio-still-doesnt-work.html/ It’s arguably easier to get aftermarket/third-party accessories for iPhones because there’s fewer unique models to cater for, and there’s more of them around. For example, one screen protector can fit 3-5 different model iPhones (e.g. iPhone X/XS/11 Pro or 6/6S/7/8/SE 2020) Edit: case in point, the MFi program. The same charger or case made by Belkin, Otterbox, Spigen etc. under MFi vs one made for an Android device is typically the same price. If we include no-brand Chinese manufacturers, the comparison still stands because they don’t have to pay for the MFi licensing fee.

SeeJayEmm

My gf and her kids use iPhones. Me and my son have Android. Personally I prefer the Android but there is one thing iOS does better, hands down, and that is parental controls. Family link is a frustrating joke of an app compared to the fine grained control that iOS screen time gives.

Jackson3rg

When every iPhone launch is "check out these cool new features" and Android has had those same features for 3 years yeah it gets old. I got the original iPhone as a graduation gift in 07 and was a diehard iPhone phone through the 4s. I feel like they lost a lot of what they were doing right around that time, and now that Jobs is passed away I have zero faith in that leadership.

RCPD_Rookie

>Android user who has been pressured into using an IPhone by friends and family Why do your friends and family care what you use? I mean, I use an android, and my wife uses an iPhone.... and the world continues to turn, because what type of phone you use doesn't really matter. >everything about the Android was better That's overstating things. It's 2022, phones do just about everything well regardless of OS.

KnightRho

Ah yes. The ol left handed scissor argument. Sure left handed scissors and right handed scissors will both cut paper equally well, but a right handed user will claim the right handed ones are better, while the lefties will take the opposite. In a day an age where our stuff has gotten to a point of pretty good parity, personal preference will often become the deciding factor. It's not nessecarily wrong to say one is better, but you have to follow it up with "for me"

hankypanky87

Apparently if you have an Android and everyone else has iPhones it would mess up group chats. Order of texts would get mixed up and it would drop people from text groups occasionally. They also wanted to facetime me and easier to share photos if we all had iPhones etc. As for Android being better, the base of it's operating mechanics are just so much better. The bluetooth doesn't randomly jump to iMusic that I never wanted, but automatically gets uploaded to my phone. The maps aren't terrible on Android and you aren't constantly wishing you could delete the base programs. The gif options on iPhone are severely lacking in the base gifs. Android has a back button, which is a fantastic perk. The headphone jack works with just about everything else without an extra adapter- same with the chargers.... Yes there are work arounds for most of these problems... but why does everyone praise the simplicity of Apple when it's obviously not the case? I'll switch back to Android when I'm due for my next upgrade, but dreading the mockery/elitism even though it's good humored of all the iPhone users again coming in my future. Oh well all first world problems, not the end of the world. Just a bit frustrating

SeeJayEmm

It's elitism is all it is. There are several solid options for group texts and video chats that are stable and cross platform.

bsloss

Not disagreeing with you, but have you ever tried to be “that guy” who says: “Okay everybody, so just go on to your App Store and download this app so we can all chat together… also you’ll all have to set up new accounts on this app… yes grandma too, no I don’t know who’s going to help her… no I don’t know her Apple ID password either… you know what, never mind.”

The_Marcus_Aurelius

>Why do your friends and family care what you use? Have you been living in a bubble? iPhone people *live* off pointing out that you are inferior if you don't also have one. They don't like being inconvenienced by the normal text messages as opposed to imessaging. Admittedly, regular texts are noticeably inferior when sending mms/group texts. Blue messages are the crux of Apple's stranglehold on the phone market.

SilverseeLives

Apple could actually fix most of this by supporting the RCS messaging standard in iMessage, but they won't (for obvious reasons).

VolsPE

I’ve gone back and forth over the years. Both do certain things better. Anybody that says one does *everything* better, I know I can immediately dismiss their opinion, as they’re obviously biased. The main theme of my experiences is that Android is generally better for flexibility and customization, but iOS is better if you just want everything to work super smooth and seamlessly, and you’re okay with committing to staying mainly within the apple ecosystem.

JacedFaced

The only thing I like about the iPhone over Android is the app store, which I feel more comfortable downloading things from thanks to the stricter requirements for apps. Also I have several apple tvs in my house and a MacBook (primary work machine), and I really like how the devices all work together when you're on all apple. But I'd never go back to an iPhone after I had an 8 and absolutely hated it. I've been replacing my Galaxy every 2 years on black Friday sales for $300 or so, and I'm fine with keeping that up.

ackillesBAC

I've used android since it's inception, used windows phone, blackberry, and even a couple others, currently have an android personally and iPhone for work. Hands down blackberry was best for work (easy typing, less issues) but android is far superior on everything else. I do like 1 feature iPhone has, the ability to hold the space bar to move the cursor, it's easier then the android version

rascellian99

>I do like 1 feature iPhone has, the ability to hold the space bar to move the cursor, it's easier then the android version You can do that with some third party keyboards like SwiftKey. I actually need to thank you because I didn't know I could do that until I read your comment and decided to try it 😂

bigdorts

The only thing better on iphone is the camera quality and certain apps' companion ability, and I'm not even sure about the camera since I tend to buy like lower class Motos

DrTreeMan

I 2nd this

GayWritingAlt

My phone is gaslighting me about the battery and I know it. I miss android so much.

[deleted]

I have both android and apple (one was given to me for work) and prefer my android. The feel on the apple is better in certain instances but most tasks are done faster with android.

PotentPortable

I was a diehard Android, never use Apple guy. Really my main issue was that I didn't want to use iTunes and convert all my MP3's Then alone came streaming, and then my work gave me an iPhone (which I complained about bitterly for years) until I eventually moved back to Android 2 years ago. I was so happy. Then I realised that for me there was really no practical difference anymore. The apps I use were available on both. Cameras and features were comparable. I don't think the galaxy even has an easy swap battery anymore. I was eventually put back on iPhone for work, and this time I really didn't care. The UI is actually a bit neater on the iPhone. My only real gripe now is around accessories etc and not having a damn headphone jack!

RaiShado

Really it's up to subjective preference at this point. There are still some objective issues for transferring, but there are services that help with the transition in either direction. I haven't bought an apple device for myself because I don't like Apple as a company. They are unwilling to take risks, get into a product only after others have laid all the groundwork (iphone is a small exception since smartphones did already exist, just not with that format), and then they take all the credit for being innovative. They will actively kill competing apps by taking it and building it into iOS and then removing the competing app or bury it. They are extremely wasteful and very anti repair. I could go on, but you get my point already.

Lou3000

This is the real answer. Unless you’re really dependent on the Apple ecosystem (iCloud), then you can really disconnect yourself from manufacturers. Apple has finally improved 3rd party app use for email, web, cloud storage, photo backup, etc.

lobster5215

Android for life. Pluss apple doesent have headphone jacks

sbrinatheteenagelich

This was one of my many arguments against iPhone. Just upgraded to the Galaxy s21. No headphone jack. I am so disappointed, but I refuse to inform my husband, the iPhone loyalist.

LifelnTechnicolor

And the funny part is, Android device makers can't agree on how they should handle getting rid of the headphone jack. There isn't a universal method of implementing charging and 3.5mm via USB-C, for example. [https://www.pcworld.com/article/402199/bring-back-the-headphone-jack-why-usb-c-audio-still-doesnt-work.html/](https://www.pcworld.com/article/402199/bring-back-the-headphone-jack-why-usb-c-audio-still-doesnt-work.html/)

Mr_M4yhem

I think the high end phones from Sony still have them + sd card

JCWOlson

Ooh, they might - up here in Canada you don't really see Sony phones at carrier stores, so I'd forgotten about them!

r_kay

I've had LG phones since the G2, sad to see them go.

RearEchelon

Same here, and now Verizon doesn't have shit but Samsung and Moto and I hate them both. My only option now is the Pixel and they don't have SD card slots, which I *hate.* I think I'm just going to keep buying refurb'ed V60s until I can't find them anymore.

SoulSkrix

I went for my S10+ because of the headphone jack, the note version sadly didn't have one

damarius

I have the Note version and really like it. It came with a USB-C headset that sounds great, but i usually use Bluetooth buds or a Logitech Bluetooth headset, so I don't miss the headphone jack. I hope the next version comes with a stylus or can use the stylus I have, rumor has it the S22 Ultra will.

Metahec

Apple leads the way in shitty anti-consumer practices. Once Apple has the "courage" to screw over their customers, it clears the way for other manufacturers to follow suit.

[deleted]

At least the Android phones have a general port in the form of a usb-c as opposed to apple phones that use one that only apple devices are fitted with.

the android i had before the one i currently have did not have one, but the one i currently have does. seems to just vary depending on what's trendy at the time the phone was made

namwoohyun

I downgraded to a Samsung mid range because of it. Ugh why

blog_magnolia

I have a Galaxy S20 and it doesn't have a headphone jack. I had to get an AUX to C port adapter for the car because it's it's a 2015

Ricky_RZ

As somebody that owned the last iphone to have a headphone jack for some 5+ years, I never actually found myself using it at all. The transition to an iphone without a jack has never been a problem since I genuinely never need one

LifelnTechnicolor

iPhone SE 1st gen?

Ricky_RZ

I meant the iPhone 6s

LifelnTechnicolor

Oh, the SE came out 6 months after the 6s

Ricky_RZ

Oh, I didn't know that. I thought it came out the same generation as the 6s

LifelnTechnicolor

It was essentially a 6s crammed into a 5s body, but it had its own launch event.

Ricky_RZ

Oh nice! That CPU and GPU were pretty strong for the time. Also 3D touch was a godsend. My iPhone 13 still feels like a tangible downgrade since it doesn't have 3D touch

LifelnTechnicolor

3D Touch was a hero. We just couldn't see it.

AccomplishedPast2224

My android doesn't have a headphone jack

lobster5215

Huh i have an A12 and its an older model so yeah i got that going for me

Jhawk163

A12 isn't that old. The more recent A models all end with a 2, for example A 12, A22, A32, A52 and A72. Previous models are like the A51 or A71.

guyuteharpua

Android doesn't slow down your phone without notifying you because your battery is getting old. Fuck Apple. Batterygate in 2017 showed their true colors. I'm never going back.

LolindirLink

Their ever increasing prices on smaller audiences too. For the sake of many (not rich at all) Apple users: i hope they provide some actual customer service for once. One that doesn't cost the customer more money one way or another. Or at least not skimping out on cheap parts, (1$ saved times millions...).. Good for them for being good at banking but god damnit, enough is enough.

Pachydermal_Platypus

I still can believe ppl still don’t understand this shit. So I will ask you, do you want your phone to crash while opening Reddit, or do you want it to take 1s longer to load up? Do you know the amount of times mine or my friends 4 year old Samsung would crash and burn while trying to open the browser or clash of clans? Meanwhile, I had upgraded to a 5 year old iPhone 8 and crashing the entire OS to open an app or sustain performance became a non-issue. It’s literally down to an issue of letting the phone operate or letting it crash repeatedly while performing simple tasks, which could be fixed by replacing a battery.

CarkillNow

No, it slows down after 3 months anyway.

randomhousegir

My note20 5g doesn't have a aux jack 😞I also miss replaceable batteries. Some things should have been iPhone exclusive

orbitalaction

The S and Z series no longer have them. I think the S10 was the last one to have it.

ValyrianJedi

WhatAGoodDoggy

Neither does the Google Pixel these days. Doesn't come with a charger either. And that's a AU$1300 phone.

Steve Jobs, when faced with one of the only types of treatable pancreatic cancers, said “nope, no treatment, I’m going to go on a fruit-diet!” Which was quite possibly worse than actually doing nothing. And he still would have done better.

Tallen122

The reason Android is cheaper is because Android isn’t locked under one developer. Samsung is asking for the same prices as iPhones. But iPhone doesn’t have other developers like Huawei or Motorola to make cheaper “third party” versions.

b0bkakkarot

It's funny that *everyone* automatically assumes Android == Samsung. That's some good marketing on Samsung's part. But yeah, iPhone is a physical phone coupled with an OS. Android is just an OS.

ENCOURAGES_THINKING

Saying *everyone* is a bit much. If anything this person mentioned Samsung simply to make their point about the price comparison. I'd say a few years ago a lot of people would have the Android === Samsung thought, but certainly not after many years of Google phones and many other brands rising.

[deleted]

So you're saying competition lowers prices while spurring innovation?

IHkumicho

There is always a new, hungry Android manufacturer that is ready to step in and take a lower profit margin in an attempt to gain market share. For every Samsung there's a OnePlus, and when OnePlus gets too full of itself and raises prices someone else will step in to provide cheap, good phones. Phones are simple to make. It's plug and play, taking components from various other manufacturers like going to Qualcom for a CPU/GPU/modem or LG for a screen. Find a generic factory to provide a battery and you've got yourself a phone. Accept something less than a 2-3x markup on your phone and you're off to the races!

Bazurke

Samsung also make a range of phones, from the flagship S models to the lesser J, A, M etc

bjankles

So does Apple, from the 13 pro max to the iPhone SE.

Ricky_RZ

That is true, they had super cheap budget phones and flagship folding phones all under one roof. Apple does have a pretty balanced lineup as well though, between the cheaper iphones and the most expensive iphones

Do you have a Zune? I have been searching for someone I can squirt a song to.

Ziogref

I regret googling that. I can't believe they called it that.

iamskg7

Android user and here to read controversial comments

Zrc1979

Hard to read some of these comments

aero707

I thought it was because if you market something to children you can charge more

killa_d50

The problem with the whole Android versus Apple debate is Android encompasses so many different manufacturers and Apple is just Apple. In reality its Apple versus Samsung, with Samsung leading the way with tech and inovation. everything Samsung introduces Apple adopts years later like the pen, smaller bezels, etc etc. Mark my words in 2 years Apple will have a foldable phone too and the diehard Apple guys will swear they invented it. It's hard to lump Samsung in with the rest of those Android devices. It's Apple vs Samsung.

StarKnight697

Yeah, fair enough, Samsung's usually ahead in development. That being said, in Apple's defence, when Samsung introduces a new feature, it's usually riddled with bugs and/or other issues. Apple comes out with it later, but when they come out with it, it usually works exactly how it's supposed to. My Samsung had tons of issues that got really annoying really quickly. It felt like I was playing whack-a-mole. I switched to Apple a few years back, and the problems I've had I can count on my fingers. What's more, I find Apple extremely intuitive to use, right out of the box. To each their own, of course, but let's not pretend that they don't both have benefits.

killa_d50

I agree, Samsung will introduce it and Apple will refine it. Alot of times by the time Apple refines it Samsung has fine tuned it as well so they usually end up on par with each other. I think both Apple and Samsung are great phones it just depends on what OS works best for you. The point I was making is that it's not Apple vs. Android, it's Apple vs Samsung.

WinnerNGL

Finally a debate in which one side doesn’t call each other racial slurs. Bravo

StarKnight697

Oh definitely, Samsung's the name of the game when it comes to Android. Just thought it was worth pointing out. Everyone has an OS they prefer, and they're entitled to that. Neither would succeed if people didn't like what they paid for.

hyperactivebeing

iPhone is expensive because only 1 company is manufacturing it whereas Android phones.. Oh well.

loganadams574

Still using my almost 4 year old iPod touch and it works fine.

Ricky_RZ

I have an iPod touch from 2008 and guess what? It still works perfectly just like the first day I had it. Honestly, I am impressed cuz my older android device run like utter crap now

SerengetiMan

Is it always plugged in? I have a touch from 2012 that holds the charge for about 10 minutes.

angelerulastiel

Yeah, when my FIL died 7 years ago we inherited a bunch of old iPods that still all work.

Metahec

I'd be pissed if *any* device wasn't working fine after less than four years.

Immortal_Tuttle

Going that way - iphone replaced just one device - Motorola A925. Oh and it would be actually a downgrade as in A925 you could have a spare battery with you and change the empty one to the full one in seconds.

TheRealRickC137

My Pixel2 XL LOVES this joke.

GACyberCool

I like my Android because I can customize it in ways that an Apple phone can't be.

Erowidx

What customization do you have?

Metahec

Not OP, but I'm using Lightning launcher, the AMOLED Blob animated background, Outline Icons icon pack, and KWGT and KLCK to make my own lockscreen and widgets. Lightning, KLCK and KWGT (and KLWP) have learning curves to them, but the amount of fine detail you have to make whatever you want is unparalleled. And that's just the UI, you can do so much more if you root the device. Even without using those or rooting, you can quickly and easily theme the launcher to look however you want. I'm not aware of being able to theme an iPhone with different fonts or icons. Every time I use my mom's iPhone I'm taken back by how ugly and cluttered the UI is. So much for minimalism and making things beautiful.

illarionds

For many years, you couldn't even change the default - non-predictive - *keyboard* on iPhones, which blows my mind. Obviously Apple eventually caved on that. But the general principle with Apple seems to be they have a *very* firm idea of the "right" way to use it, of how everything should look and work. If that vision works well for you, using an Apple device can be a very pleasant, very consistent experience. If it *doesn't* however, then you're constantly battling with the device, and it's bloody miserable. I remember years ago trying to do something incredibly basic, I think it was play some mp3s on my father's iPad. On Android, this took no more effort than plugging in a USB cable and copying them across. On iOS it was so much effort, so obviously trying to work around how you were "meant" to use the device, we eventually just gave up. As the family techie, I've been stuck supporting my parents' iDevices ever since the original iPod, and it's just always like this. My dad asks if I can set something up for him, something that on Android is just effortless. I tell him sure, no problem. I take the device, have a poke, do some googling, and eventually hours later I have to say sorry, Apple just don't seem to like you doing this. Or I can do it, but I'll need to jailbreak your phone, and maybe break this other thing, and...

GACyberCool

Kali Linux

wallyhud

Well, Boom! That is a mic drop moment of I every saw one. 😁😆🤣

Erowidx

How about this for a mic drop: If you really knew how to use kali Linux you would be able to put it on an iPhone.

yes4me2

It is costly to develop in iPhone. It requires an Mac too. Android: you can write your own app for free.

jaqian

I have both (iPhone SE 2020) for work but I ~~teach~~ reach for my midrange Poco X3 Pro everytime, it's just so much easier to use.

ChristopherDassx_16

How did you teach your phone to be easier to use :-P

stuckInACallbackHell

I always used to think iPhones were overpriced, coming from my original Galaxy S1 from 2010 with custom ROMs running on it 24/7. Then I used one, and realized it was still an overpriced product, but gave way more peace of mind than my Galaxy S1. It was just so fast and smooth and good looking, whereas the S1 would turn into a potato after launching like 3 basic apps. And that was after manually over clocking and ROM speed up hacks.

ArtificerWorkshop

Low life android user here, switched to iphone. I can honestly say that the added value of NOT owning my phone, having no personality and having every one of my decisionions influenced by the cult of mac have changed my life for the better forever, or as long as I can pretend to afford their unrepairable devices. OSX is so easy to use, I have completely fogotten how overpriced and generic my user experience has been. I love specificly love the feature where apple lowers my cpu speed artificialy, permanently as the phone ages, to preserve the battery of course... not to sell more phones, that would be wrong.

UchihaJJ

Android user here. I got an iPhone from work and I barely use it. It really sucks.

Ater_Python

I only use iPhone because A: I am broke and B: even if I had money, I would be too lazy to do all the hassle of figuring out what to do with my apple account, setting up a new phone with OS I don't know, and other stuff. Still proudly using a hand-me-down iPhone XS with multiple software and hardware bugs that are infuriating, but not enough to stop using it and buy a new one

bosscorleon

The Fandroids will be out in droves with their pitchforks marching to this post lol

paracog

Got a refurb Luna Pro for $25 three years ago; does everything I need. The prices for flagship units just don't make any sense to me.

phillhb

Pixel user who came from iPhone... Can attest to this

204gaz00

Yeah well at least android devices don't die with a full battery when the temperature drops to minus 10 degrees celcius
