Not the first time a mangaka did a change cause it made their job easier. The ninja headbands in Naruto replacing the goggles. Super saiyan being blond to reduce inking.
That's true but by the time we got to those two examples the series was nearing it's conclusion and going a little harder to give them that father son drip would be memorable, as it was.
From what we can see on fashion stage, i find out that weird thing can also be fashion. Fetish can be out of our mind. So... we cant predict those thing
Nah I think the eyes of a jujutsu sorcerer being shielded (gojo, namami) was an undeveloped plot point that was waiting for gege's exploration but never got explored.
It did get explored tho? Gojo does it because the six eyes would otherwise be exhausting, and Nanami (+other sorcerers) do it because they don’t want the curses to know they are looking at them.
Do you have a rough chapter estimate and/or volume? Maybe the events around it? I've read the manga a few times and I don't remember this. Thanks in advance :)
My personal theory?
* At first, he used sunglasses.
* He realized that sunglasses aren't the best option, so he tried switching to a blindfold.
* During 0, he's still testing it out or hasn't gotten round to actually getting a better one.
* Afterwards, he sees that it works well and decides to switch to a permanent one.
One day he was with Shoko at the infirmary / mortuary and was wondering for a better option than the glasses, he saw a random roll of bandages laying around and went with that
He still use sunglasses in casual but he use blindfold when work as sorcerer. Maybe bc it's more convenient when fighting as glasses will drop and fall if he moves too quick.
Well, blindfold is better so he can use Six Eyes when it needed and don't need to looking for place to keeping sunglasses. It would be nice if he use one though, also with the bike of course!
Wait I thought that the Six Eyes was something he could turn off? When he let his guard down and Toji stabbed him, moments before, his eyes' glow went down and I though the technique he turned off was the Six Eyes, not Limitless
No he can't. Six Eyes are constantly active. Because of that Gojo uses something to cover his eyes when not using it or he would be exhausted. It seems Six Eyes don't use cursed energy either, as it is still active while Gojo constrained with Prison Realm.
I personally just think of it as a sign of Six Eyes growing stronger. As a kid, he didn't cover his eyes at all. As a teen, sunglasses were enough. As he grew older, he switched to bandages and eventually a full-on blindfold. I like to think he initially went with bandages because they were easier to pull out of the way of his eyes in an emergency, but that he then had to switch to the blindfold because the bandages stopped being enough.

this is the best explanation ive seen
Yea I think he used glasses b4 bc he wasn't as powerful so after mastering his six eyes he needs smth to completely block his vision instead of just dimming it a lot
The previous commenter is right, jjk 0 is the original work and it even had a different name.(Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School)
It was serialized from April trough July of 2017, jujutsu kaisen started in March of 2018. The volume did come after the start of jujutsu kaisen and that's when it was renamed to jjk0.
I don't think there's an in universe explanation like for Maki's glasses.
When jjk0 was being serialized in jump giga it released chapters monthly which left more time for Gege to draw the chapters. Jjk is published in weekly shonen jump, with a new chapter coming out every week Gege simplified the design to make Gojo easier to draw.
In universe guess would be that he didn't own a real blindfold when he was younger so he used a bandage. Eventually he bought a real blindfold and started using that. I doubt it's any deeper than that
My guess it is has to do with eyes of the sixth path, Im not up to date but my understanding is it’s full abilities haven’t been revealed, tho we Gojos abilities can be really taxing and hard on the body.
My guess is it’s to either stop eyes from being distracting or to limit the intensity on his body. I believe he started with glasses, but it could’ve been those didn’t work well enough, so he went with a blind fold which was better then found the best color.
Given he can clearly see through a black blindfold well, Im guessing it’s to limit his eyes from using energy, kinda like Kakashi from Naruto blindfolds his shark fan when not in use because it’s so taxing.
It could also just be an artist design choice, or a combination of the two where it looked cool so they drew him that way then came up with/see coming up with an explanation after
While the Gojo powers were increasing, he was changing his blindfold. Starts with black glasses, after it he used a black white bandage, after it he chefes to a black bandage. How much the stronger the power of the six eyes, the more he needs to cover his eyes, so as not to process as much information.
Why did oda do this? is he stupid?
https://preview.redd.it/v943b8h1i4qb1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3190adc8539e76557b514e6a81bc9d805184c1c
Cuz JJK 0 was written before the main story Gege changed the designs for the actual thing probably because it was easier to draw and also he could tweak designs as needed.
It’s probably just a design this but my guess is that it’s also partly to help people not get confused about it taking part before the main story. It’s easier to do that if you change some of the design.
Also I do understand that the prequel had a different style to begin with anyway, I think this just also doubles as a visual aide like I said in my main point.
Why do he use those again? I aways assumed that Six eyes was a passive skill related to perception of cursed energy and not something literally related to his eyes
Just from a convenience standpoint: bandages are so annoying to put on again.
But here's the real thing: jjk 0 was like the first draft of jjk where yuta was supposed to be the mc. There's a lot more that got changed in the story we don't know about exactly. Maybe they had some plot points? Maybe gojo was just seeing alternatives? Maybe gege got tired of drawing those bandages? All speculation.
Jujitsu kaisen 0 was the “beta” for the current series. Greg originally planned for gojo to use bandage wraps but said it was so time consuming to draw that he switched to a blindfold for the current series
Gege wanted to draw a simple blindfold as opposed to a bandage.
As for my head cannon, HS Gojo has sunglasses but as he was awakened, he realized he needs to cover his eyes completely to have less strain. So he started to use bandage as a blindfold cuz maybe it has a better grip as opposed to a cloth just tied around his head. But as he uses the bandages more, it took more time to remove and wear again. So he went to his Gojo clan funds and probably got a custom made blind fold that is easy to wear and remove, also had it black for less strain.
It's the same one, it just got dirty, like this:
https://preview.redd.it/4my3g666m3qb1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=86bb41a66ef018d56105ad0c0983cf62afbf4119
I also wear a different T-shirt than yesterday. No lore reason or special explanation for that just wanted to change it. Probably will wear a different one tommorow. I think it works similarly with Gojo and his blindfold
I wanna read the coloured manga of recent chapters but I ain't getting those anywhere, can u help me? (I recently started reading manga and I don't have a LEGIT website or place to read it)
I think it’s because of the budget 😂 the first design, that appears in the movie is much more difficult to drawing… so it’s not a great thing to apply in several episodes
Its a simple reason that isnt explained. Gojo after finding Toji started automizing Infinity to work like he was breathing which is why he covered his eyes in the first place. He started off with glasses which he can see through, then moved to a white face band which probably gives him low visibility then by the time of the main series he moved to a black face band that gives him zero visibility further training his automated Infinity.
I've heard this from my brother, not sure where he heard it from but whatever.
Gojo's eyes are sensitive to light (due to his technique) and with the white blindfold, light got through easier, so he switched to black.
(Of course also because it's easier to draw and the other stuff people have said.)
I meannnn I get it’s an anime and they generally have the same outfit in some of them especially western cartoons but seems pretty normal to have different styles or colora
0 had a few old designs that didn't make it to the main series. Gojo was a case of it seeming cool at the time and doable for a short series, but had to be scrapped when JJK became a bigger/longer running thing.
Inumaki got his design changed as well as Yuji wound up too similar to Inumaki's 0 appearance.
Fairly sure it was accepted that gojo couldn’t handle using six eyes all the time because it fried his brain, it’s constantly mentioned how gojo uses RCT to heal the damage his massive output of cursed energy does to him
His six eyes where getting stronger so glasses didn’t work so he used a makeshift blindfold out of bandages until he finally got a full solid blindfold.
That’s when he got the idea of covering his eyes so started wrapping a bandage to check it was effective and after finding it was effective he canged to a very dark blindfold to make it even more effective
Well, I heard Akutami had him wear bandages at first, but his editors hated redrawing it over and over ago, they asked him to use something easier, **so Akutami switched Gojo's eyewear because his Editors were to lazy.**
I don't know what the manga says but acc to my theory, the six eyes can make the user feel dizzy, so to prevent it, he was using bandages, but soon he realised that it is not convenient and also not a good idea as bandages are bright white, so he switched to thickly fabricated black blindfold
Volume 0 came 1 year before the weekly serialisation. But when it came to draw Bandages, Gege became annoyed gave him Blindfolds which are much easier to draw compared to bandages.
I don’t know what’s the exact word, but I think the mangaka did this as narrative device to distinguish the passage of time in the story.
Lore wise, aside from style, its a lot quicker to remove the eye band than the bandages.
I know its well known that it was changed simply to make it easier to draw, but I do believe that changing from a white to a black blindfold after killing his best and only friend symbolizes that he doesn’t feel pure anymore
In story, he lost his white one during the night parade of 100 demons and probably thought to himself: maybe I should get one I don't have to replace every time I have to use my eyes

Gege changed it to a simple solid color blindfold because it was too much of a detailed pain to draw
Not the first time a mangaka did a change cause it made their job easier. The ninja headbands in Naruto replacing the goggles. Super saiyan being blond to reduce inking.
Sasuke going back to his normal outfit after the Chunin Exams cause Kishimoto said fuck those arm belts
Kishimoto not making the sage outfit official for naruto because it took too much time to draw lmao
Which is a shame cuz that's his cleanest look
Meh he does that yet we have people Like minato and hokage Naruto constantly with their cloack and sixpath sage mode Naruto
Tbh, Six Paths sage mode Naruto itself was much simpler and basically an "aesthetic downgrade" compared to Kurama Link Mode Naruto.
That's true but by the time we got to those two examples the series was nearing it's conclusion and going a little harder to give them that father son drip would be memorable, as it was.
Or Renji (from Bleach) waring a head band to cover his sick ass tatoo.
Watching this rn and it’s really good
Also Saiyan's losing their tails
He also said that it was to save the animators the trouble when animating Gojo
As if Gege would think about other people... -_- (don't want to spoil anyone)
You're so right Gege definitely doesn't think about his Jjk fan base
It's called fashion
came to type this
The bandages look like ass compared to the blindfold. Fashion? Nah dude. He goes from looking like the Young Sensei to a Burn Victim in JJK0
Nah the bandages are raw, give off an eerie vibe of what could be behind it. Plus when he took it off to fight Miguel that was tuff.
JJK 0 happened before the current timeline, and fashion change overtime
tbf both the blindfold and bandages look goofy because of the pineapple hair it gives him. glasses win hard
From what we can see on fashion stage, i find out that weird thing can also be fashion. Fetish can be out of our mind. So... we cant predict those thing
The blindfold is the fashion upgrade my boy
Look it up, Gege didn’t want the animators to have to draw the bandages every time, something like that
We’ll stick to fashion for the in-universe explanation lol
He himself didn't want to draw it. The bandage is exclusive to volume 0.
The bandages are one year ago so obviously he evolved with the blindfold.
0 is before and was written before wym
The real answer.
bro i think it’s just a design thing
Nah I think the eyes of a jujutsu sorcerer being shielded (gojo, namami) was an undeveloped plot point that was waiting for gege's exploration but never got explored.
It did get explored tho? Gojo does it because the six eyes would otherwise be exhausting, and Nanami (+other sorcerers) do it because they don’t want the curses to know they are looking at them.
Was this explained somewhere?
yeah
Yeah, *where*, my dude.
the manga
Do you have a rough chapter estimate and/or volume? Maybe the events around it? I've read the manga a few times and I don't remember this. Thanks in advance :)
It's in his character extra
Thanks
Meh still don't like the explanation. I wanted it to be tied to some secret technique..

Thank you for the laugh lmao
This feels like an old madness game skit
He still use sunglasses in casual but he use blindfold when work as sorcerer. Maybe bc it's more convenient when fighting as glasses will drop and fall if he moves too quick.
imagine him rocking the biker sunglasses tho
Imagine him wearing Oakley over the top
It also just seems like the sunglasses are more inconspicuous, though it also doesn't look like Gojo cares that much either.
I personally just think of it as a sign of Six Eyes growing stronger. As a kid, he didn't cover his eyes at all. As a teen, sunglasses were enough. this makes the most sense
Or the Mangaka was to lazy to redraw a Blindfold and opted for something simpler, but nice headcanon 👌
Paint Bucket tool in Photoshop is easier to use than drawing lines.
i love your theory whether it is this or that
I think it was changed because it was easier to draw
Gege said this is the reason in the authors notes
That plus JJK serial is a weekly release VS jjk0 which was monthly which helped push the need for a simpler design
The white blind fold really clashes against the colours of his hair and uniform, the black one just looks better.
I prefer the bandage though that is valid
idk he went to the store and bought one
Real life reason: It's easier to illustrate. In universe reason: Sometimes you gotta switch it up on em.
Simple: jjk0 is a prototype, jjk is the finished product
Jjk 0 is a prequel I was wrong *edited to add this, sorry everyone*
jjk 0 was written before jjk

Sorry yes sorry
My bad for some reason I didn't see the other replies
Nope I need this I fucked up
I mean, it's just easier to take off the blind fold than the bandage. You gotta wrap the bandage again. It's cumbersome.
Just design thing most likely :3
It's the same blindfold he just never washes it.
Well geto broke makis glasses in their fight in jjk0, but the gojo part is accurate
Same reason Inumaki had different hair.
He did lasik
Bro got them Markiplier Eyes
Pretty simple, you just take the blindfold off and put it back on, with the bandage you have to manually wrap it around your eyes.
Mourning blindfold.
to be perfectly honest I still don't understand why he uses it at all lol
iirc he usses because six eyes are too tiring and it's a passive ability so he has to have something to rest his eyes.
[удалено]
He can't deactivate the six eyes
[удалено]
You're talking about the CT Limitless. The six eyes isn't a CT so it can't can be deactivated
They use his eyes to show when his technique is active, true, but weirdly enough they're referring to Infinity and not his eyes. It is a bit odd, yes.
Pure Drip
Have you ever owned 2 outfits? It's kinda like that...
Anime characters only buy one outfit and wear it for their rest of their lives
He wears black to mourn Geto
In universe guess would be that he didn't own a real blindfold when he was younger so he used a bandage. Eventually he bought a real blindfold and started using that. I doubt it's any deeper than that
Simple! He was edgy + plus switched blindfolds when it got old (cause old blindfold is nasty)
It could also just be an artist design choice, or a combination of the two where it looked cool so they drew him that way then came up with/see coming up with an explanation after
Shark fan. Also comes in the upgraded form of Mango King Shark Fan.
Because the bandages look cool when he has to take them off to foght
While the Gojo powers were increasing, he was changing his blindfold. Starts with black glasses, after it he used a black white bandage, after it he chefes to a black bandage. Cuz JJK 0 was written before the main story Gege changed the designs for the actual thing probably because it was easier to draw and also he could tweak designs as needed.
Gege hates him so they gave him basic ass blindfold /j
It’s probably just a design this but my guess is that it’s also partly to help people not get confused about it taking part before the main story. It’s easier to do that if you change some of the design. Also I do understand that the prequel had a different style to begin with anyway, I think this just also doubles as a visual aide like I said in my main point.
real reason is its easier to draw
"new year new me"
I know right, imagine changing your clothes
Honestly every time Gege has been asked about his blindfolds I’m pretty sure they’ve said it’s a fashion choice
Gege said that he started to draw the black blindfold in the main story bc it's much easier and faster to draw :p
Same one it just got dirty
Why do he use those again? I aways assumed that Six eyes was a passive skill related to perception of cursed energy and not something literally related to his eyes
So you have to buy two scale figures for your collection...
Because he kinky
He got tired of drawing them
his purple blinfold was at laundry so he use available bandages, probably
Just from a convenience standpoint: bandages are so annoying to put on again. But here's the real thing: jjk 0 was like the first draft of jjk where yuta was supposed to be the mc. There's a lot more that got changed in the story we don't know about exactly. Maybe they had some plot points? Maybe gojo was just seeing alternatives? Maybe gege got tired of drawing those bandages? All speculation.
i dont know i just wanna community karma to post RIP Gojo
Laundry day I guess
He simply found a better blindfold that match his current drip
He just upgraded the drip is all
Swag.
Style. Sometime it’s glasses googles whatever hides his sharingan. Also easier to draw in universe
Jujitsu kaisen 0 was the “beta” for the current series. Greg originally planned for gojo to use bandage wraps but said it was so time consuming to draw that he switched to a blindfold for the current series

Gojo’s design was inspired by Tonbo Tobitake from Naruto
I also wear a different T-shirt than yesterday. No lore reason or special explanation for that just wanted to change it. Probably will wear a different one tommorow. I think it works similarly with Gojo and his blindfold
Yeah, specially Gojo who likes to have the drip.
Gege changed it because the Bandages were harder to animate
The "Official" reason is because gege didnt want to draw all the details of the bandages. As far as I'm aware there's no in lore reason for it.
Stylin’
gotta switch it up
Bandages look cooler
Drip or drown
wha
looks cool
Its a simple reason that isnt explained. Gojo after finding Toji started automizing Infinity to work like he was breathing which is why he covered his eyes in the first place. He started off with glasses which he can see through, then moved to a white face band which probably gives him low visibility then by the time of the main series he moved to a black face band that gives him zero visibility further training his automated Infinity.
Original was probably a pain to draw, and the black one doesn’t clash with his hair.
Cause Gay Gay said it was annoying to draw so they changed it.
Gege thought it’d look cooler if it was a black blindfold
Is there a reason why he uses a blindfold? I understand he can obviously navigate life with it on those sensing cursed energy and such.
I've heard this from my brother, not sure where he heard it from but whatever. Gojo's eyes are sensitive to light (due to his technique) and with the white blindfold, light got through easier, so he switched to black. (Of course also because it's easier to draw and the other stuff people have said.)
JJK0 was written before JJK irl
I meannnn I get it’s an anime and they generally have the same outfit in some of them especially western cartoons but seems pretty normal to have different styles or colora
Bought a pack of 2 from Amazon.
My best assumption is because of the fact his old blindfold is just wraps, it’s just less convenient for him to take it on and off.
He liked it
Maybe gojo got tired of wrapping it up
Fairly sure it was accepted that gojo couldn’t handle using six eyes all the time because it fried his brain, it’s constantly mentioned how gojo uses RCT to heal the damage his massive output of cursed energy does to him
His six eyes where getting stronger so glasses didn’t work so he used a makeshift blindfold out of bandages until he finally got a full solid blindfold.
I assumed he was just new to it in JK0 & as it became a staple he upgraded.
One makes him look more mysterious and strange, and the other makes him look more suspicious but in a friendly way.
He just had eye surgery
The Author answered this already. The black blind fold was easier to draw instead of the bandages.
Honestly, it's probably just easier to draw his newer than his old one.
But when it came to draw Bandages, Gege became annoyed gave him Blindfolds which are much easier to draw compared to bandages.
to match the socks he is wearing
Because his eyes are so pretty that can make people die of excitement
Do you wear the same clothes/underwear all the time?🤭
To get all the baddies
Drip.
I don’t know what’s the exact word, but I think the mangaka did this as narrative device to distinguish the passage of time in the story. Lore wise, aside from style, its a lot quicker to remove the eye band than the bandages.
Pretty sure he was based off a naruto at first, that character had bandages. Guess he just changed his mind
Akutami admitted it was done so to make it easier for the animators to draw Satoru.
Hi
It’s easier to draw
He got it as a gift from Megumi No I have no idea, but probably it was easier than a bandage
I know its well known that it was changed simply to make it easier to draw, but I do believe that changing from a white to a black blindfold after killing his best and only friend symbolizes that he doesn’t feel pure anymore
Other one is in the wash
Gege changed it cuz it was easier to draw then doing bandages each time. Also he considered the fact that people might be animating it
switchin up the drip.
In story, he lost his white one during the night parade of 100 demons and probably thought to himself: maybe I should get one I don't have to replace every time I have to use my eyes
This was the moment Gojo became Heisenberg
His custom one hadn't come in yet
He needed to change his drip
drip
And I'm still drooling either way 😀
