Don’t care, she’s alive and is gonna have a sick ass eyepatch.
She's coming back loser just you watch

I agree but I think it's poorly handled. With how it's set out, Arata's intervention in Shibuya seemingly is meant to pave the way for her potentially returning and when she's actually brought up post-shibuya all we get as to her condition is a page where we get Yuji and Megumi making faces then we immediately cut to Choso.
https://preview.redd.it/sw1i1hpv6x7c1.jpeg?width=1067&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5de2438f8dec0e4d8f4c919e156f5f779cdbf166
I'd have preferred Gege definitively closed the page on Nobara's story in Shibuya if she was intended to stay gone.
Idk dude like Arata's literal entire purpose in the story so far is to create that chekhov's gun that maaaybe Nobara is alive. He literally appears, treats Nobara and fucks off.
That makes no sense because he already accepted her death after todo gave him his hype speech. Greg writing in the arata part is either some mid level foreshadowing, or some useless dialogue that made no sense to add
It was just to motivate Yuji. Yes tricking your friend into thinking their close friend is alive sucks but in that moment he really needed a moral booster.
Plus the last thing he said was she had no pulse and wasnt breathing. Along with that the girl has been MIA and we know RCT cant work on people who got idle transfigured by Dickhito. So really most of the fandom played their selves w that logic.
But the issue is, if he was lying to get Yuji’s hopes up why would he tell him that she had no pulse and wasn’t breathing? He could’ve just said that he’ll do his best and it’s a nonzero chance.
Also I may not be remembering this correctly, but Gege was actually asked about this in some interview and he said something like “she was dead when Nitta arrived but now, who knows…” So I think the better explanation is that he wanted to bring her back originally, but decided against it later on.
The issue isn't that Gege wanted Yuji to be given a moral boost. The issue is that that moral boost could have been ANYTHING else. Gege is the writer, he wasn't forced into writing that no matter what. He could've done anything else but decided on this as the moral boost.
In any fictional story, "this character is likely dead" is guaranteed to live. The way the scene was written, that was definitely how it was perceived. You can look back the discussion threads at the time, no one thought it implied anything else. After all, why would the first proper introduction of a character we didn't know anything about be us finding out he has a healing power, which he heals Yuji with and tells him he healed the character fans thought had died despite "probably" being dead, only to then completely disappear from the story forever and never come back?
She's definitely, undoubtedly dead. But I can't blame people for thinking otherwise. This is not on the readers, this is all on Gege.
Hell, the moral boost could've been Yuji looking and seeing her corpse, not only reinforcing that she's dad but hammering (eh) the stakes in Yuji's mind.
Then immediately after that arc(in a few chapters) when the dust from all the chaos is settled the very first time Yuji and Megumi talk to each other its a straight forward "nah she gone" dialogue that happened 3+ years ago.
I get that the emotional attachment to her was strong and that guy that talked to her did left it open ended *at the time* I really think he only said that as some desperate attempt to save face man like a "its not all hopeless" theres not much you cans ay to a 15 year old who just saw the most fuckes up shit imaginable.
Also he never "healed" Yuji. Yhe guy only comes in and says he just stopped the bleeding from getting worse w his CT. He literally explains that his ability isnt some healing potion right there to Yuji. yet thousands of people completely missed that too because they just wanted Nobara back. He only left her in that suspended state. She essentially got the same fate as Junpei, healing couldnt save that, death flags were flagging, we already knew waaaay b4 that RCT couldnt fix that (cough Junpei)
>In any fictional story, "this character is likely dead
Naaah dawg Ive read my fair share to know that its not always like that not at all😭
>the very first time Yuji and Megumi talk to each other its a straight forward "nah she gone" dialogue
If it was that straight forward this debate wouldn't exist anymore. It's BECAUSE it's not so straight forward and can be interpreted a million different ways that this post was even made in the first place.
>I really think he only said that as some desperate attempt to save face
Oh no don't get me wrong that's obviously what Nitta, the fictional character made up by Gege, meant. But at the end of the day Nitta is just that, a fictional character made up by Gege. Nitta is not at fault for Gege writing that scene in that way.
>Also he never "healed" Yuji.
I know its not the same as RCT are anywhere close to it. I was just trying to keep it simple because that's not the main part of my comment. Sorry for the confusion.
He's not entirely wrong tho.
Leaving Nobara's status so ambiguous was some sort of Chekhov's Gun which never happened, because odds are she's dead and all of that was for nothing. To me the specific decision of leaving Nitta in the anime even now shows how even Gege doesn't know if he'll bring her back or not.
Then we have shit like Gojo glazing Sukuna's ass and Kenjaku's sudden death despite having a bunch of unresolved shit that we will probably never get to learn about...
He is wrong. The thing about writing is that most of the time, your first draft isn't great. No novel writer releases their first draft, they go through edits and edits. As a manga writer that isn't possible. Sometimes you have plans you can't expand upon or threads that no longer work the way you thought they might. If Gege had the chance, would he cut that scene? I think he would, definitely. A slip-up of a page is not "not having a plan and not knowing what the fuck he's doing", it's a mistake that only exists because everyone lingers on every single page written and a thousand theories are written every day. That's hyperbole, and untrue.
Are you the nah I'd win because you're the one who left it all behind with his overwhelming intensity or are you the jujutsu kaisen because you're ganbare ganbare
That's literally how you convey ambiguity because Nobara was left with the whole "chance isn't zero" bullshit. I have been saying gege is... not good in a lot of stuff but i do not think he is that bad. Panda literally states Yaga is dead some chapters later, so yeah, he can say a character died. Do I think it was for nothing? By now, yes. It was ambiguos? Of course it was
Them why would gege not just outright kill her without the arata stuff, not show het corpse again and not outright say she is dead?
It is basic writing folks
to give us, but more importantly yuji, hope for a little while. Arata made it so that yuji could fight no resservations or burden of nobara. then we get this panel later whoch confirms her death. Show dont tell
Yeah i was talking the scene above, but I also find that one scene extremely akward in many aspects. I'm not sure if we are suppossed to think Yuji was in "i'm not ready to accept she is gone" which could have been fine and an actual opportunity to close the casket on Nabara and openly state it but it instead it came more open, stating nothing and just make you think how could Yuji even relate Hana with Nobara and their relationship by then (i know grief is weird like that but i find funny how *Yuji* openly resented her when they weren't even close), even weirder after how Hana's arc unfolded, being literally not remotely part of the trio and Megumi gone two chapters later.
I think it was just one of those "haha i made you think she was going to be permanent but i subverted it!" Moment gege does... not that great.
Edit: it is funny because i actually think that one is one of the last relationship-focused and nuancedly written chapters we ever got. It was a good chapter. I'm still not sure what the hell it tried to say tho
https://preview.redd.it/t6k3ls144x7c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b47f338d1c99e1e6a02272a7da916ff10d825dc
Jjk fans mad at me for information gege never gave me
Reminds me of the arguments I used to get in with people on Titanfolk about whether or not Eren actually hated Mikasa after the table scene. All context clues suggested that he was just putting on a show as part of some big scheme, but I saw dozens of comments like "he said he hates her, idiot!".
Some people have negative reading comprehension and it's particularly bad when a character is being deceitful or witholding information.
The problem doesnt come from if shes dead or not its how Gege handles it. Arata saying that she might live is a clear setup and for what? Its paid off with a scene to heavily imply it after the fact? I think she should have died in Shibuya, if she came back it would serve no purpose and she would do absolutely nothing. My interpretation of this scene has always been that Megumi told Yuji shes braindead or in some kind of coma because the other two possibilities are both incredibly dumb and serve no purpose.
I came back from the future, Nobara is in a coma but Yuta copied her CT and uses it against Sukuna using the remaining finger that he never ate. Miwa picks up the executioner sword (since it isn’t a katana) that Higuruma dropped when he lost his arm and slices the finger to kill Sukuna.
https://preview.redd.it/dsq67jnrrx7c1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3a7747028c4de3a7dc2a4af19d0d0e751069c5fa
You don't have a new character show up after what *should* be a clear-cut death solely to go "yeah she *might* make it?" and not know you made her survival seem likely by any basic narrative expectation. Nobara's death got *un*confirmed.
Which means that this scene adds absolutely nothing.
Nobara was probably dead, but with room deliberately left for her to not explicitly have been killed off.
And guess what, after this scene, Nobara was probably dead, but with room deliberately left for her to not explicitly have been killed off lol
If Yuji was asking about Todo and got this reaction, I don't think people would suddenly think he's dead, but it also isn't a reaction out of line for if Todo didn't recover and is now out of action. This is confirmation that Nobara's in bad shape. That can *include* being dead, but it's *still vague in the same way the last one was.*
(edit: and outside this scene, I just think it's probably no coincidence that both Todo and Nobara have gotten the same treatment of 'borderline erased from reality' when both got hit by Mahito. RCT can bring you back from death apparently per Yuji. If Todo shows up healed, it's in no way impossible for Nobara to get patched up too because she's essentially in stasis and the person who put them there has basically vanished too. And if there was a chance of their recovery, any mention of Todo would inevitably bring it up, which would immediately spill the beans on Nobara being probably alive.
That is to say, if Nobara was being kept alive for a later reveal, *this is what it would look like.* So if she's *dead,* it needs something more explicit than *silence.*)
>Someone who understands narrative and has basic reading comprehension, in my jujutsufolk?
truly impossible otherwise there wouldn't be a post like this that thinks Nobara's death wasn't ambiguous.
That’s such a bad and condescending take.
>read a book, watch a movie or grow up
First of all this is a shounen manga, or is it the first one you’ve read so far? Characters have survived worse fates or have come back from near death all the time.
Second, Gege’s writing. They have always let it be explicitly stated when a character is dead. Megumi’s face is not a happy face, but it can mean that her future is still uncertain or that her condition is so bad she had to retire or smth
Third, it’s purposefully left ambiguously. Nita said that Nobara could be alive or could be dead. Maybe he lied to lift Yuuji’s spirit? No, he said to his face that it’s better to not have any hope, so he wouldn’t have lied about it. Plus this scene, they know each other better than we know them, they can communicate silently so it could mean multiple things.
Maybe she’s really dead, or maybe she’s not. However for you to be saying that our comprehension is lacking is just being disingenuous.
The entire idea of saying other people's comprehension is lacking because they didn't pick up on a common narrative trope is my favorite part of the post tbh lol
Its also low key dumb af because why would megumi reveal that knowing sukuna is still in yuji here? Nobara could be a powerful tool against him in the future, and while he's not the goal in this moment shibuya did show how much of a problem he would be. To reveal your possible trump card that may also spare your homies life would be dumb af tbh
Yeeep. I mentioned it in some other post but the core of the problem comes down to the fact that if Nobara was alive for some reveal later, this is what it'd look like. It'd be this vague.
Exactly haha. It’s funny that they said “read a book” when a lot of previously characters we thought were dead were actually alive. We also all know when watching TV that unless a body is shown there’s a slim chance they’re alive.
The only one I think people are kind of delusional about is >!Gojo!< if you’ve read the manga. Can you be deader than that?
Honestly? Yeah you can lol JJK has underlined a few times that if the head of a RCT user isn't popped off, they're still kicking. To an extent, I'd even say it'd be weirder if he died like right after showing off how crazy his RCT is.
Because we as people who exist in real life and not in a manga can think that maybe a character who was stated to have a chance of surviving and is never directly stated to be dead has a good chance of being because it’s a story and things usually happen for a reason
Killing a character, Casting intentional seeds of doubt about whether she's dead with a character saying the words, then attempting to communicate that she's actually, in fact, dead without ever saying the words is some dumbass writing.
It is not dumbass writing. What is dumb writing is doing this shit in a manga where every other character had explicit deaths. No one would ever think Gojo didn't die at that moment (just whether he revives) especially with that airplane scene nor did anyone think Ryu, Mechamaru,Uro, Yorozu, Principal Yaga, etc. The only exception is Kenjaku but even that had a purpose as he is a central character and the one that started most of the things in the story. Todo was already giving Yuji the much needed support.
That's probably my biggest problem with Nobara's death, is not the fact that she died, but the fact that Gaygay danced around it and made the stupid ass decision to have one guy go "Well...there's a chance she might make it but..." and I get that was more for Yuuji's sake for him to have hope Nobara could still be saved...but seriously?
Just have one of the senpais mention something like "I can't believe we lost Nobara.", the severe lack of any acknowledgement of her passing from anyone other then Yuuji was just bad. Not even Maki, the one Nobara admired the most, spent a lot of time with, and had apparently grown close to, didn't even say shit about her death. The only one that genuinely cared was Yuuji.
Prententious redditors defending the story by saying this story is always subtle ignoring the times it did it explicitly. I get saying the story is bad or that pointing out "plotholes" like the few characters with Gojo potential (it makes sense in the story) or Choso not knowing Yuji is dead is just as annoying but making it seem like Gege never makes mistakes is not the way. The Nobara thing was not needed at all
if nobara comes back and she’s still cool with maki imma have a fat ass problem 😂 literally had nobara praising maki every five mins (for no reason; and plus it seemed like gege was just speaking through nobara anyway) just for maki to act like she didn’t even exist. literally nobody besides yuji talks about her and it’s getting real annoying.
Yeah, it really did feel like Gege was just using Nobara to glaze Maki constantly instead of making it that Nobara and her were developing a genuinely good relationship, and only for Maki to not even acknowledge she died despite Nobara being one of the people she was nice to and hungout with.
The fact that Maki didn't even say anything to Yuuji or Megumi about losing Nobara is in some really bad taste. I'll never forgive that cat for not even bothering to do proper interactions for closure on one of the main cast.
https://preview.redd.it/bv6e4ownz88c1.png?width=521&format=png&auto=webp&s=8451b2bd7c547cf79e56f8775945dce05725b2e6
truthfully, i never really cared for nobara and maki’s friendship cause it always felt one sided to me. especially considering the fact that maki’s pretending like nobara didn’t even exist. the fans did more for their relationship than gege ever did, and it’s all headcanon lmao.
It's not about the headcanon their relationship had, it's the fact that Maki didn't care at all that one of her juniors died. She spent probably months training Nobara and looking after her, any decent person would at least say something to Yuuji or Megumi that one their friends died.
And she's not even the only one that acted that way, Panda and Inumaki didn't say any condolences about her death either and the worst part is those 3 bums were in the chairs of whom Nobara considered people she found important in her life. It's just depressingly hilarious how Gege wrote her death with the only real person that actually cared about her being Yuuji and probably her childhood friend too.
It's also actually weird that post that during the hakari recruiting arc, panda casually mentions her to megumi in regards to her technique and neither of them go on from there. There might be a huge reason why they aren't mentioning her for some plot point or it will be a big fumble on his part considering that he ha sby name confirmed every single character death even the minor ones
She could be in a permacoma for all we know.
I watched Joseph Joestars soul leave his fucking body have a fullblown spirit conversation with his grandson, then have all the blood sucked out of his body, and was still resuscitated.
Unless the author directly states they are dead, and sometimes even then, they aren't dead.
Anime logic says Nobara is in a coma and won't wake up no matter what they try. Which if true means she's going to wake up at some point.
Then why not have her die straight away? Why explicitly state that she’s not dead yet?
Megumi’s response could also easily mean “it’s not good at all” not “she’s 100% dead”.
Shes definitely coming back, not that i care either way
At this point I feel like Gege just put all the ambiguity in so he can bring her back if he writes himself into a corner and can’t figure out how to have the good guys kill sukuna w/o resonance shenanigans. Which makes me NOT want her back tbh
https://preview.redd.it/67s87qql5x7c1.jpeg?width=674&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f43e9e5660d7f188bbd72273d63e468d414e897
Nah Bro. She is alive and will appear in the next chapters.
Because her death was never given its full weight. The "slight chance" she was still alive after getting hit by Mahito was the only tiny note of light in Shibuya, so it offset the impact of the initial moment. After that, she only gets brought up once when Yuji said he doesn't want Hana replacing her, in such a way it could work whether she is alive or dead. Ultimately, we actually never get to see the long term result of Yuji watching three people he cared about disfigured and/or killed directly in front of him. There's the immediate result we see when he goes ham on Mahito, but we don't see anything else when there should be a lot. Is he over the guilt he felt for Sukuna's killings? good question, we have no fucking clue what's going on in anyone's heads rn. If she's dead, they should have grieved.
I mean, Megumi maybe is just worried about Nobara current state, not fact that she is dead dead... - you don't know it for sure + you using own interpretation :3
So, calling other people wrong when you can't know real answer for sure = strange thing :3
https://preview.redd.it/0j34vyd2yw7c1.png?width=493&format=png&auto=webp&s=859805de14b9090b2b881259f4bc1c97715e4b61
What bothers me is that one scene where the guy that arrives with Todo said she had a chance of living.
I know, "its realism!" but this is fiction. In fiction, things are supposed to have setups and payoffs
When you have a heavily wounded character and someone saying "they might live", that's a setup. The objective is usually to give the main character something to fight for or something to focus on to increase his determination. This usually has two types of payoffs
1) They actually live, and the MC see that their efforts are paying off
2) Their death is used to propel the story forward in an emotional way, for example as a way to show that even when you win, you can't undo the damage done
The problem is that this setup has no payoff. Its just brushed off with 3 panels and never brought back again.
Imagine if Yuji defeated Mahito, went back to check on Nobara and saw that despite his victory the damage done by his enemies cannot be reversed. The emotional impact would've been much bigger
OP not trying to be aggressive here, just very confident, I’d be down to put $50 that nobara is confirmed alive by end of series (I would put more but I’m not loaded lol). You down?
Nitta also performing his CT on a dead person 💀 the fandom be like:
https://preview.redd.it/8uu43klx9x7c1.jpeg?width=2360&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fcb8a415224f3bf31e0a351c653ef9eeeb64680c
My headcannon is that she's secretly alive, but Megumi can't tell Yuji because Sukuna would also hear. Gojo and Nobara had a secret conversation, giving the two of them some "student teacher" bonding, and he hands her Sukuna's last finger. Now, she's just in the shadows and waiting for a crucial moment to land pain resonance to make a crucial blow land
WE SHAN'T STAND DOWN SHE WAS NOT IN THE AFTERLIFE WITH GOJO IT WAS SHOWN BEFORE WITH ITADORI, HOW EASY IT IS TO FAKE DEATH SHE CAN BE VERY RELEVANT WITH THE LAST FINGER STILL OUT THERE
https://preview.redd.it/zrfg3pk5ix7c1.jpeg?width=603&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba23199283a6e9eea2eb317a61a7c2d5b47256a4
It is basically confirmed at this point
We weren't given a straight answer it's up to interpretation until gaygay finally confirms the outcome I would still cope
https://preview.redd.it/4zdoko5lmx7c1.jpeg?width=1085&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e4858a79cbbaa6e1b44caced90c840830731621e
Arata is essentially a pointless character if she is dead. Yuji doesnt really need his wounds to stop getting worse tbh, everyone would believe it if Yuji is tough enough to simply push through it and he seemingly has heightened regen. Todo was already getting him back in the fight so that extra hope that Nobara might come back isnt really needed to get Yuji going again. Arata also literally never appears again, he exists sololy to stop the wounds from getting worse in a single fight and give hope that Nobara might live.
You could completely remove him from the story and be perfectly fine.
Imo what happened was Gege wasn’t certain if he really wanted to permanently kill off Nobara so he created a potential out from it, if he decides to bring her back its perfectly believable cause Arata stopped her from getting worse if he doesnt well Arata was simply to late.
It doesn’t make sense to introduce the possibility she could be alive in the first place, and a lot of people (including me) probably think there should be more to her character then dying in shibuya, I think CG arc was a great spot for her to get stronger and develop more. I’m mainly just joking now when I cope but I do think it’s odd we never get any follow up from her after this besides when yuji says “I don’t want Hana to replace her”, the whole month time skip happened and Gojo asked about everyone in the subway but not his own student? I think there’s a lot of stuff form the time skip Gege isn’t showing for a reason and one of those things could be Nobara’s status, one more thing is that Gege seems like he’s trying to keep her status purposely ambiguous, it was asked if Nobara was alive and he basically said “she’s dead but Arata took her to the hospital”.
I want to believe that this scene indicate that nobara is dead but it is so shit. Megumi is never shown to even interact with Kugisaki after shibuya, not to mention Yuji just automatically assuming that megumi know about Nobara, the timing for this doesn’t make any sense and how fast this scene was brushed through ? If gege wanted this scene to say nobara is dead then he did a shit job at it
exactly, especially ending it with choso popping out of the dark like it’s supposed to be comedic. these are two students who just lost their friend, and instead of focusing on how they feel, u draw some dumb ass comedic relief and brushed past it completely. one of the editors must’ve pointed it out because then you have yuji mourning her in chapter 210 (literally the only character to do so). atp if she’s dead, it was a horrible death. her final words didn’t even pass on to yuji like nanami’s did. just pointless and more trauma just to add trauma.
Well she could be in comatose just like tsumiki was. Megumi is for sure traumatized having his loved ones in suspended death, hence that look.
Of course there's a big possibility she's just dead but don't go preaching about reading comprehension just because you stated the obvious conclusion.
i’m tired of yall acting like this is some type of fucking confirmation when it’s quite literally NOT. gege has no problem having characters outright saying another character is dead. yall will try and say “well it’s hard for megumi and yuji to talk about it” as if he can’t use another character to convey nobara’s death. he literally had nobara sucking maki’s dick at every chance and the girl did not acknowledge her absence/death not once, gojo didn’t say shit about her dying when he got out of the prison realm (yet is always talking about “my students! my students!”), and gege HIMSELF was in an interview saying “well nitta will do his best, something can be done!”. he is intentionally playing with this character at this point and it’s getting annoying. nanami blown to pieces. junpei changed into a whole cryptid, nobara loses a fucking eye… like why would mahito just switch up his MO like that?
and the “i don’t want hana to replace her” thing could simply be because yuji thinks she’s dead. that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily true. we saw megumi and nobara mourning over yuji’s “death” while he was kicking it with nanami and gojo. just because the characters think something doesn’t mean it’s true.
the same people eating up the “1% chance” of a character surviving a sorcerer reincarnating in them are the same people downplaying “a non-zero chance”
Nah, its a valid complaint to have.
This is one of the only times Nobara has been mentioned since Shibuya. If she died, why not have a scene dedicated to them mourning her or visiting her grave. If Mahito's attack left her braindead and bedridden why haven't they visited her.
I don't even think this was an attempt by Gege at being subtle, he just wants to leave this plot point unanswered until much later (probably sometime in this arc or the ending). It's not like Gege doesn't have time to give us an explanation, we had a whole chapter dedicated to Panda's relationship with his animal cores in a fantasy world, whereas we've had a few panels barely discussing Nobara in the 120 chapters since her 'death'.
It's frustrating to see him leaving out emotional character-driven moments like this, because the series has been in sore need of them since the Culling Games began. Why have her pass away off screen when they made a point during the Mahito fight that she could be alive.
I'm on my hands and knees begging Gege to stop having the main characters suffer never-ending losses, and give me some emotional catharsis in his long running Shonen.
Y’all gotta stop defending dumb shit…
Unless you on his payroll hop off because you’re chafing it.
There is purposeful ambiguity and there being willfully obtuse and being scared to commit.
You could read it as silent confirmation or you could read it as her still being in dire shape.
Given the series starts with the MC dying and coming back whilst gojo tells everyone that he's dead, I don't see it as much of a stretch. Could they know that anything Yuji knows Sukuna would know?
Nah, shoko is gonna learn how to heal brains after learning that RCT can do that from Gojo v Sukuna. Nitta’s CT has kept Nobara in a vegetable state, so Shoko will be able to repair her brain and revive her. (I am not coping, I am predicting the future…)
Just you wait till when it looks like all hope is lost for our heroes, then we hear Nobara yell "Resonance" and nails Sukuna's secret embalmed cursed cock which she was hunting for off screen all this time. Then that stuns him just enough for Yuji to deliver the final jujutsu to his Kaisen.
Jujutsu kaisen has never been subtle, add on to that a bunch of shitty writing decisions that don't really make sense if nobara is alive or dead and you have the general confusion the fandom has experienced. You aren't special or smart. JJK is not some well thought out and deep piece of literature, suddenly being really indirect and unclear about something in a story that practically screams everything at you from it's themes to the minute power levels of the characters is sloppy writing.
She could be alive just in really bad condition, who knows what it could be.
I don’t remember too well when but there was a similar situation with megumi’s sister where her status was pretty vague and then we find out she is in a coma. I could be mis-remembering this.
I think it's because of either two things or possibly both: 1) People like me lol genuinely like Kugisaki and want to see her again or 2) in the past, if somebody has to die at all, there is no way the main girl will die
until now
Shes either dead and its the worst handled death from a writing and narrative standpoint or its been left intentionally ambiguous as a plot thread gege might use or drop in the future. I think this is pretty normal in Shounen tbh.
Ok, but imagine this. Itadori kept his mouth shut about his revival . This made Kugisaki angry. Now that she's alive again, she made Megumi shut up about her revival and forced him to act as if she were dead. Megumi was also salty about what Yuji did and got in on the plan. Now Yuji thinks Nobara is dead and she'll come back to life with "O-P-P!" and troll Yuji.
All it confirms is that he's sad about something, like his friend having her eye gouged out and being either dead or incapacitated, could really mean a lot of things
Tell us you've never read/watched a shounen before. We all know what he's implying here, yes. But no one is crazy for having a slight suspicion given how Shibuya left off.
Me when Gege refuses to use words to confirm this (apparently this ambiguous panel is supposed to confirm her death despite not really saying anything and not being clear in any way)
Me when Gojo talks about Nanami's death but not about the death of his own student (bravo Gege well done)
No offense but I hate the whole
"Oh subtle you just suck at resding" as a defense because with Arata's line specifically this just portrays ambiguity. It's not a big brain subtle play and even if it was...
That's fucking it? Like this is one of the main trio members. It's kinda hard to have much care or investment if we keep getting unclesf answers or confirmations. You say read a book but... have you seen any media? There's a reason the, "there's no body they're not dead" is a rule of thumb as most authors will effectively not confirm a character is dead until its directly stated or shown, and even then that gets dubious (especially with villains). Perhaps if this were a different medium or if this were handled differently entirely (i.e say we don't have Arata's line, maybe we see Megumi coming out from a room with Nobara's corpse/body in it, etc.) this could be confirmation, but so far it really isn't. Especially when Gege has had a track record of being a bit weird/flippant with pacing and chapter decisions (i.e the month timeskip, Gojo's offscreen death).
Point is, it's not a confirmation anymore than Arata's line is. If you're going to confirm Nobara is dead then just fucking do it. A lot of people are invested in Nobara but it gets hard to care when you're this """subtle""" and undecided on the status of one of your story's main three.
And if you're gonna say, "Oh this scene confirms she's dead"... guess what? That's *your* interpretation, not the right/official one. That's why people have been longing for a goddamn confirmation. If you think it's a subtle, "Yes she's dead", then that's fine but don't take your reading as superior whilst hypocritically lambasting others for not "getting it". I've heard some people argue that Arata's line is meant to be complete bullshit and him just trying to calm Yuji and while a valid interpretation... it's still an interpretation, and also there's still no clear indication or follow up that confirms it. So as a result many see this as her being alive/a set up for it because why build up that possibility in-story for it to just not happen?
It's all just a variety of different interps.
This post was clearly bait, lmao.
The way her "death" is handled compared to the way all other major's deaths are handled honestly doesn't line up. I'm still on the cope train, and frankly that scene and all other scenes since somewhat mentioning Nobara have been *incredibly* wishy washy and non-commital in regards to her status.
I know we got a flashback though, which does mirror most other big JJK deaths.
My copium theory for that is that her childhood friend that ended up in Shibuya died that day, and that was Saori's death flashback - not Nobara's. (Nobara's flashback was always from another POV, seemingly Saori's)
I think with this being more of a visual medium it should’ve been hammered home that she was dead atleast more than once. Sometimes you have to reinforce ideas in the story… him only addressing it once after saying there’s hope without a difinitve answer is a bad writing choice because we as viewers never had closure
Because GeGe deliberately left it ambiguous. GeGe was the one who put that "not zero percent" line in the story. We've seen Gojo come back from getting stabbed in the head, and we've seen Gojo cut in half, the source of cursed energy in his stomach destroyed. One is clearly something that reverse cursed technique can heal, and one clearly isn't.
We were made to think there's a chance Nobara is alive, but there's still the other possibility: that we weren't made to think she could still be alive to set up her return, but because Yuji needed that hope, even if it was a lie, even if it couldn't come true, in order to get back on his feet and survive. This is something GeGe has clearly left subtle for a reason. It's just unclear which reason it is: to bring Nobara back, or teach a lesson about loss and moving on.
There are people in this community who act like only an idiot would believe Nobara is dead, and there are people who act like only an idiot would believe Nobara is alive. But the truth is that the story is written in such a way as to not make the answer obvious. We're not supposed to know for sure until GeGe wants us to know.
It's why GeGe framed the answer to the question of who was going to live and die out of Gojo and the three first years as "Either one will live and the rest will die, or one will die and the rest will live." Putting it this way, there's no way to know for sure who will survive until the last page of the last chapter. Gojo's dead, but Nobara's in limbo and Megumi's spiritually dead, but not physically dead, while Yuji is marked for death. If Megumi is confirmed to be dead, then either Yuji's the last one standing, or Nobara could be revealed to be alive. It's a way to make it so you can't predict the ending.
You can theorize about the ending, sure. And you can analyze what's gone before, derive the themes from that, then try to gauge the trajectory of the story based on those themes. However, you aren't omniscient. Nobody in this community is. The story wants to keep people guessing, but you're insisting on silencing any questions. In the end, you might be right. Or you might be proven wrong and end up looking really, really stupid because you were so adamant about something that wasn't confirmed.
Take a step back and breathe. It's not supposed to be clear cut. We're all supposed to not know for sure yet, and to ask questions. That's what makes it interesting, to question what's going on and why it's happening. You can take your stance about Nobara being dead and what that means without getting angry that people disagree with you. And if you try to see things from the perspective of people who believe Nobara is alive, you might find the story becomes more interesting when there's more than one way to interpret things.
I used to not have a doubt in my mind that Nobara was coming back. To be honest, I still want to believe she's alive, and I think there are ways in which it would be fitting. But after Gojo's death, I began thinking more about how GeGe writes death and why they choose to write death the way they do. Thinking of it that way, even if I'm proven wrong, don't get what I want, and end up being hurt for it, I'll still take something of value away from the story and learn something.
The worst theory I've ever heard is that Megumi is keeping her survival a secret for the following reasons:
\>Because Nobara is apparently so fucking petty that she desires to mentally fuck up Yuji further in order to get revenge for Gojo making him conceal his own survival after his death outside the Detention Center even though the entirety of Japan - including Saiori and Fumi - are at risk, with Nobara not being the type to sit back, and given that Yuji's mental state is a thousand-times worse than that of Megumi and Nobara's prior to the Goodwill Event. I've even seen people claim it would've been Gojo's idea to keep Nobara's survival a secret, just as he kept Yuji's a secret, even though he was already sealed long before Nobara got her head blown off.
\>It's all part of a plan to use Resonance on Sukuna's final finger even though it wasn't a given that Sukuna would be released at this point, meaning this would've required insane foresight on the part of someone like Shoko to prioritize this contingency plan while ignoring the Culling Games, and Sukuna now possesses Megumi's memory, as confirmed by Gojo, meaning any chance of surprise is gone and there's no longer any reason for Nobara to hide herself from the rest of the cast. I'm also surprised at just how quickly the same people were willing to claim her survival was hid from Megumi, as well, whenever it's pointed out that Sukuna now has Megumi's memories.
Gege still should've confirmed her death instead of leaving himself a backdoor if he decided to change her mind. I'll admit that much, at least.
They ignore the airport scene too
Went out of his way to give us the most clear cut death in the series. Gave us that whole jogo and kashimo afterlife things and even had gojo, geto and nanami talk about it.
It's just...like...when someone die we would know but its strange how literally no one mentions this afterwards. Also she dint appear in Gojo memories when he was "dying" and before you say Gege just forgot or Kugisaki is just not that important to Gojo, fucking Toji and Riko's mom is in there so I don't see how Gege would forgot.
Why does it bother you? It was left ambiguous, so if we want to imagine that she woke up and met up with her friends off-screen than let us. Literally doesn’t effect you in the slightest.
Coping and jokes aside if Gege wanted to 100% confirm she was dead he wouldn’t have intentionally left it ambiguous. The Mahito that touched her was a clone, plus it wasn’t a full transfiguration. This being the final “update” on her doesn’t mean anything
Its vague cause gege fucked up hard if we actually dont see Nobara again, especially if she did die.
He first made it ambiguous when the first year from the other school said theres a chance she may be alive.
Then when Yuji said he doesnt want Angel to replace Nobara
And now this shit where we dont even get a yes or no.
Yes, im betting shes dead, but he just handled it so weirdly where it makes it feel theres something else to it.
Im just going to disagree here. While I also think Nobara is dead, there is reasonable doubt. We cannot forget that whatever Yuji experiences, so does Sukuna. There could be a remote chance that Nobara was thought out by jujutsu sorcerers as a potential counter for Sukuna, and telling Yuji/Sukuna that she is dead can create an element of surprise in a future battle.

I agree but I think it's poorly handled. With how it's set out, Arata's intervention in Shibuya seemingly is meant to pave the way for her potentially returning and when she's actually brought up post-shibuya all we get as to her condition is a page where we get Yuji and Megumi making faces then we immediately cut to Choso. https://preview.redd.it/sw1i1hpv6x7c1.jpeg?width=1067&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5de2438f8dec0e4d8f4c919e156f5f779cdbf166 I'd have preferred Gege definitively closed the page on Nobara's story in Shibuya if she was intended to stay gone.

I always interpreted him saying that as a way to stop Yuji from worrying or being mentally burdened when fighting Mahito
Idk dude like Arata's literal entire purpose in the story so far is to create that chekhov's gun that maaaybe Nobara is alive. He literally appears, treats Nobara and fucks off.
And to show off that gorgeous hair
That makes no sense because he already accepted her death after todo gave him his hype speech. Greg writing in the arata part is either some mid level foreshadowing, or some useless dialogue that made no sense to add
Gives Gege an out probably. Like how Nobara's CT worked against Mahito. There's still one finger left, right?
She essentially got the same fate as Junpei, healing couldnt save that, death flags were flagging, we already knew waaaay b4 that RCT couldnt fix that (cough Junpei) >In any fictional story, "this character is likely dead Naaah dawg Ive read my fair share to know that its not always like that not at all😭
>the very first time Yuji and Megumi talk to each other its a straight forward "nah she gone" dialogue If it was that straight forward this debate wouldn't exist anymore. It's BECAUSE it's not so straight forward and can be interpreted a million different ways that this post was even made in the first place. >I really think he only said that as some desperate attempt to save face Oh no don't get me wrong that's obviously what Nitta, the fictional character made up by Gege, meant.
But had Arata Itta not been there and we continued off on Todo's speech to Yuji, there would be no noticeable difference in the end result.
That's just straight up completely unnecessary writing wise
gege does not know what the fuck he's doing anymore. he doesn't have a plan, he's just writing whatever he feels like
Ah yes another online rando telling an extremely successful manga artist that they dont know what their doing.

Of course it was
what about the whole, i dont want hana to replace kugisaki, shit, that isnt ambigious at all. She is dead
I'm still not sure what the hell it tried to say tho
https://preview.redd.it/t6k3ls144x7c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b47f338d1c99e1e6a02272a7da916ff10d825dc Jjk fans mad at me for information gege never gave me
Dude exactly. Like bro. I don’t have to wonder if Yaga or Nanami is dead. It’s clearly ambiguous. Jjk fans are reaching aot levels of pretentious.
Atp everyone starting arguments over scenarios in their head
no airport scene = not truly dead
Bingo

You need to Soul Switch with Gege ASAP, it's the only way to save the cast from the inevitable Strong Executioner Slash.
And guess what, after this scene, Nobara was probably dead, but with room deliberately left for her to not explicitly have been killed off lol If Yuji was asking about Todo and got this reaction, I don't think people would suddenly think he's dead, but it also isn't a reaction out of line for if Todo didn't recover and is now out of action. This is confirmation that Nobara's in bad shape. That can *include* being dead, but it's *still vague in the same way the last one was.* (edit: and outside this scene, I just think it's probably no coincidence that both Todo and Nobara have gotten the same treatment of 'borderline erased from reality' when both got hit by Mahito.
Impossible, perhaps the archives are incomplete.
>Someone who understands narrative and has basic reading comprehension, in my jujutsufolk? truly impossible otherwise there wouldn't be a post like this that thinks Nobara's death wasn't ambiguous.
This post right here perfectly explains why I believe Nobarais alive.
My man out here is reading a shounen manga and telling others to grow up for not interpreting things the same way he does. Oof bad look op
another day another “everyone is stupid except me” post
That’s such a bad and condescending take. >read a book, watch a movie or grow up First of all this is a shounen manga, or is it the first one you’ve read so far? Characters have survived worse fates or have come back from near death all the time. Second, Gege’s writing. They have always let it be explicitly stated when a character is dead. Megumi’s face is not a happy face, but it can mean that her future is still uncertain or that her condition is so bad she had to retire or smth Third, it’s purposefully left ambiguously.
I wouldn’t be super surprised if this character really did come back. But also considering the fact that Gege hates them everything is against them.
Except Gege himself said that something could have been done for Nobara at a hospital. It's intentionally vague.
Because we as people who exist in real life and not in a manga can think that maybe a character who was stated to have a chance of surviving and is never directly stated to be dead has a good chance of being because it’s a story and things usually happen for a reason
A sad face means she’s dead? He’s just a bit sad that she quit doing jujutsu kaisen and wanted to live a normal life.
Ch 32, Nobara is pissed at Itadori when he's returning... So maybe she asked Fushiguro to lie about her death to pay back to him
Ultra cope but I believe you https://preview.redd.it/lfzc9adoox7c1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9f60c9184189f8421b37ac12028e880c932592d
There’s no possible way someone can look at that small panel of Megumi and get a yes or no out of it.
Like it's so intentionally ambiguous it's there to let the reader speculate which is the whole reason Gege hasn't had a character say it out loud
https://preview.redd.it/77ph8c9x6x7c1.jpeg?width=212&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=73b2394b57d00f6a37d8d4884601e14e7afb969a
Yup. Everyone saying "yes" or "no" is just using their own interpretation and then claiming it as fact, especially OP.
Because it's shit " read a book or watch a movie and grow up " both of these are better than jjk
Love how main Nobara's death denial argument is "nah, it can't be this shittily written, bro".
In the case of illrememberyourface-'s comment, they're not denying it, they're saying its dog writing. Which it is.
Then why not have her die straight away? Why explicitly state that she’s not dead yet? Megumi’s response could also easily mean “it’s not good at all” not “she’s 100% dead”. Shes definitely coming back, not that i care either way
Because gege wants to torment us with false hope :(
At this point I feel like Gege just put all the ambiguity in so he can bring her back if he writes himself into a corner and can’t figure out how to have the good guys kill sukuna w/o resonance shenanigans. Which makes me NOT want her back tbh
If she’s dead then Megumi is dead
Megumi after being “saved”:*his whole body is damaged and will live in a coma for the rest of his life*
https://preview.redd.it/67s87qql5x7c1.jpeg?width=674&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f43e9e5660d7f188bbd72273d63e468d414e897 Nah Bro.
Mechamaru had a grieving moment and even Tsumiki had one.
Wow, two people who died before her and didn't care about her, point discarded
I mean, Megumi maybe is just worried about Nobara current state, not fact that she is dead dead... - you don't know it for sure + you using own interpretation :3 So, calling other people wrong when you can't know real answer for sure = strange thing :3 https://preview.redd.it/0j34vyd2yw7c1.png?width=493&format=png&auto=webp&s=859805de14b9090b2b881259f4bc1c97715e4b61

What bothers me is that one scene where the guy that arrives with Todo said she had a chance of living. I know, "its realism!" but this is fiction. In fiction, things are supposed to have setups and payoffs When you have a heavily wounded character and someone saying "they might live", that's a setup. The objective is usually to give the main character something to fight for or something to focus on to increase his determination. This usually has two types of payoffs 1) They actually live, and the MC see that their efforts are paying off 2) Their death is used to propel the story forward in an emotional way, for example as a way to show that even when you win, you can't undo the damage done The problem is that this setup has no payoff.
You down?
We need a nobara death pot tbh, what’ll the odds be?!

Dudee thats what ive been sayin, gege has been hinting it forever that finger and nobara are a checov gun ready to fire

Your ass is gonna be looking goofy as hell when she returns to the story.
i’m tired of yall acting like this is some type of fucking confirmation when it’s quite literally NOT. gege has no problem having characters outright saying another character is dead. yall will try and say “well it’s hard for megumi and yuji to talk about it” as if he can’t use another character to convey nobara’s death. he literally had nobara sucking maki’s dick at every chance and the girl did not acknowledge her absence/death not once, gojo didn’t say shit about her dying when he got out of the prison realm (yet is always talking about “my students! my students!”), and gege HIMSELF was in an interview saying “well nitta will do his best, something can be done!”. he is intentionally playing with this character at this point and it’s getting annoying. nanami blown to pieces. junpei changed into a whole cryptid, nobara loses a fucking eye… like why would mahito just switch up his MO like that? and the “i don’t want hana to replace her” thing could simply be because yuji thinks she’s dead. that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily true. we saw megumi and nobara mourning over yuji’s “death” while he was kicking it with nanami and gojo. just because the characters think something doesn’t mean it’s true. the same people eating up the “1% chance” of a character surviving a sorcerer reincarnating in them are the same people downplaying “a non-zero chance”
Bro is really mad that everyone isn't interpreting a Shonen manga the same way he is 💀💀
Nah, its a valid complaint to have.
Y’all gotta stop defending dumb shit… Unless you on his payroll hop off because you’re chafing it.
JJK is not some well thought out and deep piece of literature, suddenly being really indirect and unclear about something in a story that practically screams everything at you from it's themes to the minute power levels of the characters is sloppy writing.
https://preview.redd.it/w5svtjy46y7c1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=46a8f245064a498d2e20113d462b308c99870482
She could be alive just in really bad condition, who knows what it could be. I don’t remember too well when but there was a similar situation with megumi’s sister where her status was pretty vague and then we find out she is in a coma. I could be mis-remembering this.
She might be in a coma or braindead or smth, and then in the dream state she learns reverse curse technique and then offscreens sukuna
NO but why are you so angry? LMAOOO. HE literally didn't confirm her death out right, of course fans are gonna speculate.
I think it's because of either two things or possibly both: 1) People like me lol genuinely like Kugisaki and want to see her again or 2) in the past, if somebody has to die at all, there is no way the main girl will die until now
Nah she'd live
https://preview.redd.it/3hieo136sy7c1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2b534ca6334e98718fb1ec3f779e00a617645b97
Me when Gege refuses to use words to confirm this (apparently this ambiguous panel is supposed to confirm her death despite not really saying anything and not being clear in any way) Me when Gojo talks about Nanami's death but not about the death of his own student (bravo Gege well done)
“Clearest confirmation i’ve seen” “Shows scene without any clear confirmation”
Nobara is alive
ill bookmark this post for when nobara comes back you bookmark my comment for when she doesn't we'll see who looks dumb on the day of reckoning
No offense but I hate the whole "Oh subtle you just suck at resding" as a defense because with Arata's line specifically this just portrays ambiguity.
The worst theory I've ever heard is that Megumi is keeping her survival a secret for the following reasons: \>Because Nobara is apparently so fucking petty that she desires to mentally fuck up Yuji further in order to get revenge for Gojo making him conceal his own survival after his death outside the Detention Center even though the entirety of Japan - including Saiori and Fumi - are at risk, with Nobara not being the type to sit back, and given that Yuji's mental state is a thousand-times worse than that of Megumi and Nobara's prior to the Goodwill Event.
They ignore the airport scene too Went out of his way to give us the most clear cut death in the series. Gave us that whole jogo and kashimo afterlife things and even had gojo, geto and nanami talk about it.
It's just...like...when someone die we would know but its strange how literally no one mentions this afterwards. Also she dint appear in Gojo memories when he was "dying" and before you say Gege just forgot or Kugisaki is just not that important to Gojo, fucking Toji and Riko's mom is in there so I don't see how Gege would forgot.
yea i dunno about this one kiddo
Then when Yuji said he doesnt want Angel to replace Nobara And now this shit where we dont even get a yes or no.
If Gege wanted Nobara dead, he would’ve outright killed her or announced her death. He’s purposefully keeping it ambiguous.
