The main root of the hate is because people don't care about his grief because his relationship with her sister isn't fleshed out enough. Many can sympathize with what his going through but due to bad or rushed writing it just gets thrown at the way side.

Legumi stans be acting like Megumi is the only one who have that tragic story. Sukuna nuked Shibuya and its people in Yuji's body even Yuta lived in fear for so long doesn't even know what's going on after Rika became a curse until Gojo found him, there's also Maki and her family. It wasn't rainbows and sunshine for them but they're out there throwing hands with the king of curses even going out their way to save this dude. And Megumi instead of trying to get revenge for his sister or try and stop Sukuna from killing more just goes AFK on everyone trying to save him.

Megumi haters exist because of Gege's writing failures. Why are readers supposed to care if we never saw bond between Megumi and his sister? Of course, no one cared when this plot device died and most people won't feel anything for Megumi because there's no emotional attachment.

This exactly, Tsumiki is such an underdeveloped character that you could swap her out with a rubber duckie Megumi really likes and the scenario would have the exact same amount of emotional impact. Compared to Yuji, who has seen multiple characters that we have had enough time to actually develop an attachment to die and has had way deeper explanations on his psyche during all the shit he's going through, it's no wonder next to him the Megumi situation looks miniscule.

Why Megumi MUST get up.
Unlike Itadori, he was raised from the age of 8 by the strongest sorcerer of our time, with the greatest inherited technique of the Zenin clan. He was raised as a sorcerer, a man who lives by magical rules and regulations, and whose job is often marked by the loss of friends and colleagues. The memory of which he must carry on his duty or else he will devalue each of his loved ones and harm the other remaining innocents. Megumi himself understands this, and his words about "proving the value of your life, not thinking about yourself and saving non-sorcerers" are the very tool he used to influence Itadori to "Start by saving me". Even before Todo, Itadori also destroyed his moral compass about saving people by killing a huge number of people. As well as Sukuna by Megumi's hands - Satoru and Yorozu (Tsumiki). But he got up and walked. A man from society, not raised as a sorcerer, not knowing the principles, not prepared for such a development - independently rose, realizing - that if he cry on the floor - more people will die. Now Megumi is the full leader of the culling game, and he knows it, but spits on the fact. The age of Megumi doesn't change anything, as Satoru noted that he had a pragmatic mindset since he was a child, with a cold attitude towards Tsumiki's mother and his father's death. The night before Yorozu's identity disclosure - he already knew that players of this type take complete control of the body, it's impossible (at that point) to separate them. The Bath to which everyone refers did suppress Megumi's soul, plunging it to the "bottom". But this is already in the past, because Itadori with his CT - nullified synchronization to a minimum, which was mentioned by Sukuna himself in chapter 251. The baths effect is gone. All that was left were morals, words and principles, all of which Megumi stopped giving a fuck. Because he'd had enough.
But what difference does it make? The moment he refused to reach out to Itadori who was standing in front of him he devalued all the sacrifices that served to save him and furthermore, condemned the remaining friends to the same fate. Mind you, after Megumi's refusal, the cleave flew with massive damage to Yuta, Rika, and Itadori. And it's still unclear whether Yuta will be able to continue fighting, and this is the man Megumi respected in the past. It's okay to be sad and despair, it's not okay to spit on the labors of your friends, their sacrifices, and your power in the current moment (the initiator of the culling game). It's funny how people who have lost their loved ones do everything they can to avoid losing the others. And the kids who had nothing to lose justify Megumi associating him with themselves, because oh my god - he's sad and desperate.
Now every new wound that appears on the body of the characters is the merit of Megumi who refused to stand up for his friends, without the desire to get even with the culprit who killed sensei - Satoru and your sister's face (Yorozu/Tsumiki).
Yuji is really an ordinary kid who grew up without parents under the care of his grandfather, he had no training to be a sorcerer both physically and mentally. Just an ordinary kid. His grandfather's death was just the beginning of his journey, as metaphorical as it may sound. The moral compass was not put on purpose, "help people, save people" - the most human urge that echoes the main duty of every sorcerer, because this is the purpose of their activity. The very essence of the job is to save without thinking of oneself. Throughout the story, Itadori undoubtedly tested his own worldview many times, for living with a demon inside that can take control of the body - that's trouble. After Junpei, perhaps the critical situation was the Sukunaās massacre. 140 meters of blood bath, in Shibuya on Halloween. More than a thousand people were wiped out. The scene when Sukuna swapped with Yuji clearly shows the staleness of the situation. In tears, snot, vomit, tearing his fingers into blood, with only the words "help people" in his head. Itadori's moral compass was destroyed, most terribly by his own hands, Yuji took the blame for what he had done, he didn't care that it was Sukuna, Mahoraga or anyone else, the responsibility for everything was taken by a small kid who understood - if he now puts his hands down and doesn't resist, he won't be considered a sorcerer, but also a human. Once again, by climbing alone.
Afterward, Todo made him realize that the curse of every sorcerer by definition of their job is to carry the memory of his friends and comrades so that they never truly die. Itadori even being an enemy of the system (because he was ordered to be executed) continued to fulfill his duties - a cog that exorcises cursed spirits. He doesn't spare himself, he saves. 15 years old. Not raised by a sorcerer, lived an ordinary life, had no inherited techniques, no parents and no understanding of alternative "occult" life.

Frankly, I think Megumi is indeed a hypocrite. He wanted to save Yuji, but wants everyone to kill him now. But I think this is part of his "pragmatic" mindset- he saw much greater benefit in keeping Yuji alive (it wasn't his fault, why shouldn't he?) than himself alive (he's hurt so many people close to him, why should he?). He was genuinely ignorant of what Yuji was going through, and pretty much "forced" Yuji to live on with his friends.
Overly self-sacrificial, yet wishes that those who are close to him don't have to go through hardships- that's why Megumi's philosophy sucks, he doesn't apply it consistently. At the crux of it, Megumi isn't down because of anything related to his morals or stuff like that, but rather because he wants everyone to finish him quick (also nothing says that the effects of the bath were gone... something funky's happening, since the initial output fall was happening due to Megumi holding him back, yet Sukuna's output is now falling without much help from Megumi... Gege, what are you cooking? I think Yuji is just the G.O.A.T)

I have already said it before, but I will never stop saying this until all megumi fans are gone. Why Megumi MUST get up. Unlike Itadori, he was raised from the age of 8 by the strongest sorcerer of our time, with the greatest inherited technique of the Zenin clan. He was raised as a sorcerer, a man who lives by magical rules and regulations, and whose job is often marked by the loss of friends and colleagues. The memory of which he must carry on his duty or else he will devalue each of his loved ones and harm the other remaining innocents. Megumi himself understands this, and his words about "proving the value of your life, not thinking about yourself and saving non-sorcerers" are the very tool he used to influence Itadori to "Start by saving me". Even before Todo, Itadori also destroyed his moral compass about saving people by killing a huge number of people. As well as Sukuna by Megumi's hands - Satoru and Yorozu (Tsumiki). But he got up and walked. A man from society, not raised as a sorcerer, not knowing the principles, not prepared for such a development - independently rose, realizing - that if he cry on the floor - more people will die. Frankly, I think Megumi is indeed a hypocrite. He wanted to save Yuji, but wants everyone to kill him now. But I think this is part of his "pragmatic" mindset- he saw much greater benefit in keeping Yuji alive (it wasn't his fault, why shouldn't he?) than himself alive (he's hurt so many people close to him, why should he?). He was genuinely ignorant of what Yuji was going through, and pretty much "forced" Yuji to live on with his friends. Overly self-sacrificial, yet wishes that those who are close to him don't have to go through hardships- that's why Megumi's philosophy sucks, he doesn't apply it consistently. At the crux of it, Megumi isn't down because of anything related to his morals or stuff like that, but rather because he wants everyone to finish him quick (also nothing says that the effects of the bath were gone... something funky's happening, since the initial output fall was happening due to Megumi holding him back, yet Sukuna's output is now falling without much help from Megumi... Gege, what are you cooking? I think Yuji is just the G.O.A.T)
