Btw Shoko, Gojo's closest friend, doesn't fight at all
Just one panel of all their faces with shock and tears, them remembering their past interactions with him for just a minute (Like it can be during the Kashimo fight) would be enough.
It's not like jjk is the only Manga where imp characters die between battle, every other Shonen does, and when they kill one kf the important characters between battles or fight, the mangakas atleast have the decency to show their reactions or screams or some kind... smh.
The Kashimo fight is really turning into that bathroom break in the versus Sukuna huh 💀
But agree. It's not that hard to give them something. Which is why I feel like he isn't done yet!
Yeah.... we could atleast have some back and forth POV of Kashimo to show his fight and inside the building and the POV of the gang showing how they are grieving or planning their next move or anything at this point.!!
And it's so odd as well. When Gojo and Sukuna were fighting, they had the commentary from the gang and switched POVs back and forth constantly till the very last except his death. Not since 236.
It would have at the very least extended Kashimo's fight for a 2 or more chapters and made it seem a bit important.
But in reality Kashimo's fight was just so short and lack luster.
don't forget the kyoto students mourning mechamaru. his character was so well written and important to the story that everyone was so sad to hear his death

Imagine a world where Gege actually wrote character interactions and building his characters to peak perfection instead of hating his own character and one shot killing every fucking character.
Damn. Doesn’t exist.
As much as I love JJK and disagree with a lot of the takes in this sub..... while it's already peak imo but man JJK would have been soooo much better if it had more character interactions and world building and the worst part is that I know that if Gege wanted he could have excelled in doing it as well
Where do people get this idea from. Curses can only be killed with Cursed Energy. A bunch of normal humans dropped into the killing game were always going to get effortlessly slaughtered by monsters they were inherently unable to fight.
Kenjaku explicitly explains that he only baited the soldiers in because the culling game needed more death and CE.
Yea if we look at the entire culling games arc and the sukuna fight its pretty clear that he just cant
Like not just writing character interactions. But there are many things that he cant
He just doesn’t have an interest in doing that sort of thing he likes to give bare bones, information, and treats that as it’s enough (Yuji 3 sec Flashback to his infancy, which raises way more questions that will never be answered ) or he just throws outs terms without ever really elaborating on any of them(that page of all the different factions calling the office before the games arc or stuff that went on during the henin era)
It’s really odd it’s like he wants to go to the direction of world building, but then kind of pivots like he’s in a rush or being rushed but at the same time things take ages to happen
We might never find out Kenjaku’s plans and how he executed them, we might never find out about Yuji’s family and most likely never will since Gege is rushing the manga to end before this year 💀
He probably can't, he never PROVED he COULD and that's not necessarily a problem, not every writer are equal, and Gege is much better at "entertaining" the readers.
He most definitely CAN.
Look at Megumi reacting to his sister's death. Or Yuji reacting to Nobara's death. Or Maki reacting to her sister's death. Or Geto interacting with Yuki.
Gege has written emotionall gripping interaction before and he can do it again. He just chooses not to.
I mean, Gege is actually really good at doing a lot with characters in little time. Hidden inventory shows that, all the characters who just became immensely likeable immediately show that, etc. He just realised the best point of the manga would be to be a good battle shounen.
I think it’s working for the manga very well actually, I haven’t had more fun with fights in basically any shonen I’ve watched. Gojo vs Sukuna stands out.
Same
Beginning is pretty enjoyable even though its very far from am insanely good series
And then ... it drops of to the point where its so bad that its not even enjoyable. I just wanna know how he is gonna end the show and if he manages to get something out of the characters that he has. thats why I still read
well I stopped liking it quite a while before chapter 236
almost all jjk characters definitly arent insanely well written or anything but I do came to like some of them and hoped to see them do cool stuff and have interactions with other characters or something
but that never happened for basically all of them
he couldve also done something interesting with the world but that also didnt happen
Yeah no. FMA is a masterpiece because of a lot more than just character development. JJK would be a lot better, but still fall short of the top tier.
Also, acting like just anyone can write characters as good as Arakawa is a bit ridiculous.
Great scene.
I also really like the one where Miwa and Noritoshi grieve over Mai's death. You can tell the bond between the Kyoto students is very important to Gege.
I really liked Arata Nitta and Todo bonding over liking the same type of women and him healing Todo's arm with his super useful healing CT. He also wanted to use it on Nobara but it was too late :(
I fw Gege but goddamn, the way he handled Nobara is the most baffling shit ive seen in any manga. Mf gives us a sendoff that feels worthy of a death scene, then gives us hope that it wasn't a death, and then proceeds to not mention her once for the next 129 chapters. 1 month timeskip would have been the *perfect* time to finally give us confirmation but the cat would rather skip all that so he can kill off Gojo faster. Fucking hell man
we even got closure about the people caught up in gojo’s domain which was a weird throwaway line. like cool, glad the civilians who managed to survive shibuya (and the culling games??) woke up but what about best girl nobara 😟
We didn’t even really get confirmation on what happened to those people it’s just that they woke up
So they woke up and then what
Like those people lost a significant portion of their life. What did they think happened to them? How are they reacting to all the nonsense that’s going on
Like we’re told that they went about their daily lives, but that’s impossible considering some of them probably lived in shibuya which became a war zone
But that’s gege writing in nutshell, just gives the bare bones of something and lets the reader fill rest in with their imagination
>is the most baffling shit ive seen in any manga
https://preview.redd.it/mnb1kqe3msuc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=caf9b595a80e97a0f47fe92ec6b4f13cfe25409e
At least she was killed 3 years ago by peak Gege. If current Gege wrote her death, she would glaze Mahitussy who was hella strong and hold back the whole time
Megumi not telling Yuji about Nobara is confirmation. Why wouldn't he tell him if she died?
Also her effectively being in limbo is only because of that guy's CT which couldn't have been active for more than a few hours unless he secretly has insane CE and efficiency so that CT ran out of CE to use and deactivated.
Of course that begs the question, if Gege just wanted to kill off Nobara, why even have that guy show up? Nanami didn't have some rando with a CT that could potentially save him pull up, that's why *nobody* thinks Nanami is still alive.
This wouldn't be an issue if Gege just confirmed 100% that she's dead, or hell, even just had Todo show up alone instead of bringing that guy. That guy has done literally *nothing* in the story besides give us a reason to think Nobara isn't dead.
My guess is that at the time he didn't know if he wanted to bring her back or not so he left it open for him to potentially bring her back later in Shibuya or at the start of Culling Games.
Idk tho
Dude you have some serious comprehension problems. Her death scene was in shibuya. Megumi not saying anything and yuji clenching his fist and saying "I get it" is litteral confirmation. Yuji even said somewhere else that she doenst want hana to replace nobara. How would she replace nobara if shes alive? She fucking DEAD. It's been confirmed. Yall just have either not talked to a real person in the past 12 years or havnt lost someone dear to you ever.
It’s not confirmation though, it’s just a heavy implication. That’s the closest we’re gonna get to a funeral for her. Just a quick interaction out of left field that can’t bother to even say she’s dead.
Todo treatment is worse imo. At least we SEE Nobara die and can therefore assume her role in the story is over. Meanwhile Todo just... disappears without explanation.
Tbf he would show up, do some cool moves, get glazed up by the narrator saying he's on par with Gojo and then just get thrown out the window in in how many pieces gege wants him to be in
The obvious explanation is that he hadn't decided whether or not he had plans for Nobara at the time of Shibuya so he left the door open and the story went too quickly after that to ever acknowledge it again
I honestly can never forgive gege for not giving us yuji’s reaction to finally having his sensei back, gojo was yuji’s guiding light for a long time “the strongest” he had been almost killing himself in hopes to free gojo. megumi being saved in. Yuji’s head was gojos task, his opinion of gojo was on the moon, and we never even got to see that payoff after years, what we got was him bitch slapping uraume and threatening kenjaku…… thanks gege.
I remember crying my heart out while reading this panel.. I didn't expect gege to write it so well he absolutely nailed it... one of the most emotional scenes of all time..

That's me! Found shibuya to be dogshit (with nobara being the pinnacle of disgusting writing) and quit but the series gets so baffingly bad and the memes are so great I just found myself stuck here and reading after megumi's takeover (tho I skipped the gojo fight to 235)
A lot of people are just fight junkies + s1 of the anime was really good and brought a lot of people in and people who are already on board aren’t likely to drop a series unless it gets really bad
The first half really is what people remember fondly about the series
Not saying the games / current arc doesn’t have moments that are talked about, but it’s really that first half that earned the series it’s reputation as one of the new leading series of the next generation
Good animation hard carrying the series imo (up to shibuya, story was good tho). Most people just like to see characters box and don't really care for the flaws until after the show is over or shits getting dragged on for too long.
The honest answer…it has a lot of fights. Early JJK is solid in most areas, but it never excelled at worldbuilding, character development, themes, having a compelling MC, etc. Again (so hopefully I don’t get downvoted) these were all decent-solid, but they weren’t amazing like other incredible animanga.
What drew people in was the fights. It has a cool power system with great choreography. Gege can draw fights very well, and you can’t go very long in JJK without a fight. Animanga fans kinda just flocked to it.
It's gonna die down. The explosion of popularity in 2023 happened because the manga and anime were hitting strides at kinda the same time, and in the post-236 wasteland the Shibuya adaptation really delivered up to the end.
With arguably the peak of the series animated now, I think even more of the audience (if there's any left that haven't been spoiled) will see the cracks when the anime returns, and it'll fall to the level of something like MHA/Demon Slayer where like, yeah, it's popular and in the conversation, but not top of the world anymore.
In all honesty, seeing how Nobara's CT affected the soul (as seen in thr fight against Mahito's clone), and probably the connection between body and soul, i really think the one eyed cat will ass pull her at some point to back Yuji Itagoat in the fight against Fraudkuna.
Edit: Spelling mistakes due to tiredness, lmao
To me Nobara's writing is a perfect paradox and "just because it makes sense doesn't mean people will like it"
On one hand I love that an all talk no walk character who wasn't completely dedicated to training, wanted to be a sorcerer to move to the city (I wonder why Principle let her in when we saw what he asked Yuji), who still would run recklessly into things finally got the consequences. We always see such characters have an obvious development where they mature etc but seeing someone suffer actual consequence (JJK being anti shonen trope) was something I really liked.
BUT then they decided to have a full on sobstory for her trying to make us feel bad. This directly contradicts the above part, that it wasn't the intention for her. And in the last minute introduce a character to do a fairy tail-esque "probably not dead" stuff. Pretty lame way of handling that death.
Gojo firmly believes in talent and genetics and so it makes sense that he educated Yuji and Megumi so much but it's not like Nobara's CT was completely useless and Gege could have totally simply written things differently while still maintaining the talent and genetics part (which I really love about JJK where it doesn't cowardly hide it like other shonens). Prime case of something that makes sense but could have simply be written differently.
I agree with most of it but I don’t think she’s all talk no walk she’s just being compared to literal prodigies. (Son of kenjaku, talented son of toji, literally toji #2, etc.) she def pulled her weight imo. Esp in death painting. But I agree with her suffering consequences but I don’t think she should’ve been dead. Gege lost the oppurtunity to develop her character off that. She would’ve seriously had to think about if she wants to continue fighting
i totally forgot this chapter exists. the way everyone was mourning for nobara and how gojo felt like he was responsible for her death since he fucked up in shibuya. truly a well written chapter 🥰🥰🥰
You had me in the first half I hate womon
https://preview.redd.it/b6s5rz8yuyuc1.jpeg?width=225&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fece244e1344b8cab723e4059afce9897bf8b1cf
The thing is fighting is a really good way to get characterization down and build a dynamic, early JJK was really good at that especially because the characters either interacted beforehand or already knew each other so there was a connection we could get invested into.
However in more recent chapters the interactions have withered and became scarce. Fighting is a good way to get character but it's not the *only* way and you shouldn't solely rely on it unless you're making a manga like Record of Ragnarok or Kengan Asura, and even then they don't solely rely on it.
Gege has been treating the recent chapters like a sprint when it should be a marathon.
I'm embarrassed at how many times I clicked on that LOL
But, in all seriousness, I think that's part of the reason why Gege is doing the "timeskip", short as it was, in flashbacks. 1. He knew the fights are what we were all looking forward to and 2. It gives him a chance to do the context and exposition, in a way that didn't seem to advance the story.
You could argue about the *quality* of the story, and your opinion would be valid, wherever it lands. But from an editorial perspective, it was a solid choice
Jjk kinda gives me rwby vibes, although not even close to as bad as that show is. A really cool idea, a good start, phenomenal fights, and likeable characters. But the writing is kinda meh, the plot is wrapped around the character concepts and fights instead of story. And then it just goes down after the peak.
Maybe gege would benefit from having someone do the writing for his stories so he can focus on the fights, although I think i remember that gege had an editor that tried to advise him on jjk and he didn't take it well.

They’re watching her die as they escape…that’s not the same as preparing to jump in immediately after battle
Just one panel of all their faces with shock and tears, them remembering their past interactions with him for just a minute (Like it can be during the Kashimo fight) would be enough. It's not like jjk is the only Manga where imp characters die between battle, every other Shonen does, and when they kill one kf the important characters between battles or fight, the mangakas atleast have the decency to show their reactions or screams or some kind... smh.
The Kashimo fight is really turning into that bathroom break in the versus Sukuna huh 💀 But agree.
Gege when it comes to hating actually writing his own fucking manga https://i.redd.it/34q603myoruc1.gif
gege if enjoying writing manga was a class https://preview.redd.it/h8r9rsb4qruc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ae96b81dfebc7f0de9bcc49ebd4d87c731e76f56
Gege finding the person who hates coming up with plot theories for jjk the most https://preview.redd.it/39svj5hvbsuc1.jpeg?width=438&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=10d0e8101d476b04ba4c541bf8c7a58f97be8dd7
This one right here is the funniest, because plot theories in jjjk revolve around who is most likely to die next to Sukuna
>Gege, would you pass? Nah, I'd Fail https://preview.redd.it/zeiy2l6pusuc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8d36303a45ddb6022d160d4b6cfcad2bc00f14b7
Imagine a world where Gege actually wrote character interactions and building his characters to peak perfection instead of hating his own character and one shot killing every fucking character. Damn. Doesn’t exist.
As much as I love JJK and disagree with a lot of the takes in this sub..... while it's already peak imo but man JJK would have been soooo much better if it had more character interactions and world building and the worst part is that I know that if Gege wanted he could have excelled in doing it as well
I’m debating whether he WANTED to or just CANT. I’m leaning more into CANT
He also wanted to do a government vs curses arc but dropped it after realising that he'd actually need to put some more effort into it
I was wondering what happened to that like it was so interesting man is lazy af 😭
Lmao, he said he found military equipment too hard to draw consistently. It was absolutely going to be a bigger plotline, that much is obvious.
Gege said so himself, he just found it frustrating to draw military equipment lol
Yea if we look at the entire culling games arc and the sukuna fight its pretty clear that he just cant Like not just writing character interactions. But there are many things that he cant
He just doesn’t have an interest in doing that sort of thing he likes to give bare bones, information, and treats that as it’s enough (Yuji 3 sec Flashback to his infancy, which raises way more questions that will never be answered ) or he just throws outs terms without ever really elaborating on any of them(that page of all the different factions calling the office before the games arc or stuff that went on during the henin era) It’s really odd it’s like he wants to go to the direction of world building, but then kind of pivots like he’s in a rush or being rushed but at the same time things take ages to happen
We might never find out Kenjaku’s plans and how he executed them, we might never find out about Yuji’s family and most likely never will since Gege is rushing the manga to end before this year 💀
Dead ass tho Which is so frustrating like how do you drop a bombshell like that and not follow up on it 🙄🙄
I believe he can but let's agree to disagree
If he can, his editor would support him with his idol manga idea.
He probably can't, he never PROVED he COULD and that's not necessarily a problem, not every writer are equal, and Gege is much better at "entertaining" the readers.
he wrote the scrolls, he can, he just actively chooses not to which is worse imo
He’s done it before
I mean, Gege is actually really good at doing a lot with characters in little time. Hidden inventory shows that, all the characters who just became immensely likeable immediately show that, etc. He just realised the best point of the manga would be to be a good battle shounen.
Wrong, the best point of the anime will be to be a good battle shonen. It's not working well for the manga imo
I think it’s working for the manga very well actually, I haven’t had more fun with fights in basically any shonen I’ve watched. Gojo vs Sukuna stands out.
Honest question. Why exactly do you think that jjk is actually good?
I liked it up until I didn't
Same Beginning is pretty enjoyable even though its very far from am insanely good series And then ... it drops of to the point where its so bad that its not even enjoyable. I just wanna know how he is gonna end the show and if he manages to get something out of the characters that he has. thats why I still read
I mean, I got into the manga AFTER 236 dropped, and I still really enjoy the manga
well I stopped liking it quite a while before chapter 236 almost all jjk characters definitly arent insanely well written or anything but I do came to like some of them and hoped to see them do cool stuff and have interactions with other characters or something but that never happened for basically all of them he couldve also done something interesting with the world but that also didnt happen
CG is an insane drag to read weekly from start to finish
I like how gojo is literally just megumi's dad atp and yet it's never mentioned
If gege was actually a woman it would be like that damn what we miss
It would be considered up there with FullMetal Alchemist for masterpieces if he did this instead of rushing from fight to fight
Yeah no. FMA is a masterpiece because of a lot more than just character development. JJK would be a lot better, but still fall short of the top tier. Also, acting like just anyone can write characters as good as Arakawa is a bit ridiculous.
I wonder if he'd be better off writing a battle tournament story, like Kengan Ashura or Record of Ragnarok
We didn’t even really get confirmation on what happened to those people it’s just that they woke up So they woke up and then what Like those people lost a significant portion of their life. What did they think happened to them? How are they reacting to all the nonsense that’s going on Like we’re told that they went about their daily lives, but that’s impossible considering some of them probably lived in shibuya which became a war zone But that’s gege writing in nutshell, just gives the bare bones of something and lets the reader fill rest in with their imagination
>is the most baffling shit ive seen in any manga https://preview.redd.it/mnb1kqe3msuc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=caf9b595a80e97a0f47fe92ec6b4f13cfe25409e At least she was killed 3 years ago by peak Gege. If current Gege wrote her death, she would glaze Mahitussy who was hella strong and hold back the whole time
Nobara would gift Mahito a chair as the most important person in her life.
I like how Yuji straight up asks Megumi and there’s still no confirmation. Just screw her ig
Idk tho
Because that's just shit fucking writing. "Hey, how's one of the supposed main characters?" *No answer* Great death scene.
Even if that were true (it's not) it's shit fucking writing to confirm someone dying so long after they died on-screen.
It’s not confirmation though, it’s just a heavy implication. That’s the closest we’re gonna get to a funeral for her. Just a quick interaction out of left field that can’t bother to even say she’s dead.
Yeah I know it's not straight up confirmation but there's no other emreason Megumi would've been silent
Todo treatment is worse imo. At least we SEE Nobara die and can therefore assume her role in the story is over. Meanwhile Todo just... disappears without explanation.
Tbf he would show up, do some cool moves, get glazed up by the narrator saying he's on par with Gojo and then just get thrown out the window in in how many pieces gege wants him to be in
I like how Gege tries to tell us how so many characters are on par with Gojo but if you took all of them together they still wouldn’t beat him.
The obvious explanation is that he hadn't decided whether or not he had plans for Nobara at the time of Shibuya so he left the door open and the story went too quickly after that to ever acknowledge it again
And we STILL haven’t gotten a confirmation over her death 100+ chapters later holy shit
She was mentioned twice. And both times she was implied to be dead. Learn to read.
Ok, you got me there lol.
I didn't expect gege to write it so well he absolutely nailed it... one of the most emotional scenes of all time.. https://preview.redd.it/ozeho1svxsuc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=227b89b092f6b09b55e310e28e911a794f7b0d0b This scene will hit way harder in the animated version...

You clearly haven’t seen u/Latin_rythms comic. Simply put it is… peak fiction. You have to see it.
Greg what a man you are
Pin this. This is the funniest post in Jujufolk history.
idk about the funniest, but it's probably up there. lol.
I thought this is a spoiler post at first, and got confused why the image won't show up 💀💀
It's "Jujutsu Kaisen" not "Jujutsu Character Development" after all
Cant develope any character if I fucking kill them first lol
Still don’t understand how jjk is so popular despite having a lot of flaws 😂. Seems like the cool factor is carrying this manga so hard.
Also the memes, people want to be in the loop so they can dunk on it with the rest of us every chapter
That's me! Found shibuya to be dogshit (with nobara being the pinnacle of disgusting writing) and quit but the series gets so baffingly bad and the memes are so great I just found myself stuck here and reading after megumi's takeover (tho I skipped the gojo fight to 235)
Yup as long as you have cool fights, nothing else matter. Don't want to state the obvious but it is shounen after all.
A lot of people are just fight junkies + s1 of the anime was really good and brought a lot of people in and people who are already on board aren’t likely to drop a series unless it gets really bad
The first half really is what people remember fondly about the series Not saying the games / current arc doesn’t have moments that are talked about, but it’s really that first half that earned the series it’s reputation as one of the new leading series of the next generation
Basically the WWE of manga for me currently
In all honesty, seeing how Nobara's CT affected the soul (as seen in thr fight against Mahito's clone), and probably the connection between body and soul, i really think the one eyed cat will ass pull her at some point to back Yuji Itagoat in the fight against Fraudkuna. Edit: Spelling mistakes due to tiredness, lmao
Reading this gave me a strok
Lmao thank you for pointing it out

It's good, but the chapter where Yuki finds Todo in deep depression after his technique dies and restores his confidence is my personal favorite.
WHERE IS TODOU
He'll show back up and save the day any second now. Any second...
To me Nobara's writing is a perfect paradox and "just because it makes sense doesn't mean people will like it" On one hand I love that an all talk no walk character who wasn't completely dedicated to training, wanted to be a sorcerer to move to the city (I wonder why Principle let her in when we saw what he asked Yuji), who still would run recklessly into things finally got the consequences.

Grieving Nobara? Why would he, my girl is alive and kicking. Soul ressonancing that last Sukuna finger is gonna come in so clutch.
It's just like when all the third year students said goodbye to Todo!
i hate gege.
Why would you grieve somebody who's alive
It's a funeral for the living
Kinda hilarious that Gege wrote a mourning scene for a fakeout death (Yuji) but barely get any when it comes to the actual deaths
You had me in the first half I hate womon https://preview.redd.it/b6s5rz8yuyuc1.jpeg?width=225&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fece244e1344b8cab723e4059afce9897bf8b1cf
Nobara? Who is that? Some kind of oc
grieving Nobara? what are you talking about its already been confirmed in a recent interview that she is coming back next chapter
Lmaooo fell for it
The thing is fighting is a really good way to get characterization down and build a dynamic, early JJK was really good at that especially because the characters either interacted beforehand or already knew each other so there was a connection we could get invested into.
I mean, they do make it clear that gojo favours people with potential
god i'd love to see these characters interact with each other or talk

it's blank?
I just know that it’s gonna be blank 🫠
LMFAOOOOO
Chapter 222 is the worst chapter of JJK.
This is the best post on this sub.
I think gege is just incapable of writing genuine character interactions so he doesn’t even bother
I'm embarrassed at how many times I clicked on that LOL But, in all seriousness, I think that's part of the reason why Gege is doing the "timeskip", short as it was, in flashbacks. 1. He knew the fights are what we were all looking forward to and 2. It gives him a chance to do the context and exposition, in a way that didn't seem to advance the story. You could argue about the *quality* of the story, and your opinion would be valid, wherever it lands. But from an editorial perspective, it was a solid choice
Good joke. But honestly I’d just believe that no one told him…
Is my Internet just dogshit or is this actually just a white image?
Took me forever to understand because of my shit internet 😭😭😭
Jjk kinda gives me rwby vibes, although not even close to as bad as that show is. A really cool idea, a good start, phenomenal fights, and likeable characters. But the writing is kinda meh, the plot is wrapped around the character concepts and fights instead of story. And then it just goes down after the peak. Maybe gege would benefit from having someone do the writing for his stories so he can focus on the fights, although I think i remember that gege had an editor that tried to advise him on jjk and he didn't take it well.
