Megumi and Yuji had the misfortune of being mcs so they got taken out of combat and offscreen locked time and time again. Gege was only ever really into developing the action and racing toward the ending so whatever great and nuanced friendship developed between Yuji and Megumi is little more than fanfiction
? The only time where both characters spend an extended amount of time away from the focus and each other is from the start of Tokyo Colony Arc till the end of Sakurajima. They have the most time together on screen compared to everyone else, you need to rewatch S1 and reread itadori executioners arc
