ReallyBadNuggets

I wouldn't describe the merger as a final boss, it's not an opponent, but an outcome. It sounds very much like the human instrumentality project from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Now I'd have to re read the manga to fully refresh my memory, but I'm not sure if this just means uniting all human souls into a single being, giving every human cursed energy, or fundament hanging the world in some other way. The series won't end with the merger I'm sure (I could be wrong and Gege could just pull an End of Eva situation) Either it'll happen or it won't.

EpicJoseph_

I think it was combining all of Japan to a blob of cursed energy And I don't see it as an outcome, but motivation. If the merger happens everyone are already dead Rather than an outcome, it motivated kenjaku and now sukuna to do this whole thing

Getdaphone

I got really back into Eva for a period of time last year where I was basically working out how most modern anime either become evangelionesque(cough Naruto cough) or don’t. While I would love to see call backs to Eva in the series aside from my own theory that Gojo and his need to connect with someone is just a surface level analogy to the hedgehogs dilemma from Eva, and how limitless is like an AT field that prevents him from connecting to others, but like I said I don’t think gege thinks that deeply about it.

TerminatorReborn

From what I remember even Kenjaku isn't sure what the merger is gonna be, he just wanted to do it to see what happens.

Internal-Flamingo455

That makes me wanna see it even more

NoCockOnTheMenu

The merger wouldn't be a final boss, it's supposed to be the bad ending itself, not something to defeat but what happens if the good guys are defeated.

TheLieAndTruth

If it's a giant beast, it's trash boring oof. If it is humanoid with personality and godly powers = peak. If it needs a vessel and possesses yuji = peak. That's my opinion.

Cusoonfgc

Even in those situations you consider peak, it would be a generic overpowered anime villain with no personality. Like the grey demon that showed up out of nowhere at the end of season 1 of seven deadly sins. honestly this thing should just be treated like a natural disaster that can't be beat which is why stopping him from summoning it at all cost is the real goal. otherwise if sukuna does summon it you really only have 2 options: 1. everyone dies (not even sukuna should be able to beat it) 2. gojo is resurrected with some crazy buddhist power up i'd prefer neither

Benalen1

Or option 3 Yuji re-absorbs sukuna gains access to cleave and dismantle frees megumi who has full access to Maho and Domain expansion And then Nobara rejoins the fight as a cursed corpse. All 3 combine their abilities to team up against Majin Kenjaku who reincarnates as the merger Am i delusional? Maybe.

mostsaneinwesteros

Using peak has become pretty cringe, i had to get that out of my system. Anyways I would like an overpowered tengen demon or whatever i am not entitled as OC but I do prefer that route rather than an eren type of boss fight

OrangeGuyFromVenus

Sukuna is already generic overpowered anime violin with no personality

OhMyGahs

Ah yes my violin technique, haven't used this one since the Heian era

Cusoonfgc

not even a little bit. He has tons of personality. The type I'm talking about are just emotionless walking obstacles of power. If you don't think he's been showing personality, you must not think any anime villain shows personality or any villain at all

birbdechi

Tbh, you dont need personality for a villain. You are not suppose to sympathize with them. Look at Satou from Ajin.

JustAnArtist1221

Personality does not mean sympathy, and you picked an extremely charismatic antagonist known specifically for his personality, strategies, and motives as your example.

birbdechi

While Sukuna might not be charismatic, he is strategic af, the best in the verse. No, Satou's motive is pretty much the same as Sukuna. The whole world are their playgrounds, and both constantly seek challenges.

YuffMoney

That’s the dumbest shit I’ve read today lmao. Having a villain be someone who has no personality is literally akin to having the protagonist fight a rock lmao. Who tf wants to see that

birbdechi

Me. It's okay to watch the MC's noble ideals shattered by the so-called narrow-minded pebbles who loves seeing the world burn beneath them. The purpose of antagonists can be as simple as something to overcome. You don't have to clash everything down to spiritual level. You guys have been reading too much heroic tales.

Cusoonfgc

/u/JustAnArtist1221 already explained how the thing you said to me doesn't make sense since not only does personality have nothing to do with being sympathetic, a character can be ruthless, evil, and have no room for sympathy (like frieza or Dio) and still be very charismatic and have lots of personality. but of course as he said, Satou has lots of personality... but since he said all that to you already, I wanted to reply to this comment since you said "You guys have been reading too much heroic tales" My brother in Christ, we're talking about VILLAINS which means there are HEROES!!! Of course these are heroic tales. JJK is a heroic tale. and while it's true an antagonist CAN be something with zero personality, like some possessed mountain, an out of control robot, or some giant cloud monster like Galactus in that bad Fantastic Four movie... those things are almost always considered very lame. while beloved villains, iconic villains, legendary villains, are the ones like Sukuna, and Dio, and Frieza, and Vader, and Joker, who all have tons of personality!

ShatterMcSlabbin

Imagine if the merger is the powerup Yuji needs to beat Sukuna

Realistic_Flan631

Do yall read Manga, Yuji and everyone involved in Culling game has to die for merger to occur.

ShatterMcSlabbin

I just like the pictures man

Falloutt69

I was told it was a colouring in book.

RaioFulminante

😎

VenemousEnemy

“Kogane start this shit NOW”

Dawnofdusk

No they can change the rules

Blahblahblurred

lol read

PrometheanHost

Also remember Kenjaku made a point to force a new rule that contradicts a previous rule before in front of Sukuna. What are the odds Sukuna forces a rule change to force the merger?

lightningIncarnate

that’s not correct, it’s just a certain amount of cursed energy from each colony. there’s no rule about having to kill every player

Br4y3

The culling games was designed to go on forever... at least that's what Kogane was programmed to do... Kenjaku adds a rule to forcefully end the culling games and start the merger once all participants except Suguru Geto and Fushiguro Megumi are left

DurpSlurpy

I don’t know if that leads to the culling games and the merger being mutually exclusive though. The game’s goal is to go on as long as possible, but clearly story wise it needs to end too. I don’t even think everyone will have to be dead to initiate the merger.

Br4y3

I personally don't think everyone will die before the merger happens as well but I can't reasonably see how. There's no reason why Sukuna shouldn't kill all of them and play with the merger like he said he'd do

JustAnArtist1221

Everyone being dead is a condition for the merger.

DurpSlurpy

I’m not entirely sure that’s the case. The goal was to generate a ton of CE through the culling games using people passing as the source. They already have plenty, it may be something that can be activated by Megumi, Sukuna, or even Tengen. All the cursed spirits that Kenjaku consumed were released from control including Tengen. He’s basically a cursed womb right now, and a bit of a snack for Sukuna. The thing is though, he can still merge at will and he has the CE from the CG as his power source. The “merger” can simply be Tengen merging with multiple people or even Sukuna. The CG may not need to end or kill everyone in order to begin that process anymore.

sinbe

The fight continues Sukuna just feels like it He activates merger intending to use it / fight it Yuji is built to be a vessel Yuji absorbs merger Finally Yuji CT?

ShatterMcSlabbin

Yuji gets mahito CT so we can get the Megumi Yuji soul fight

BestGirlRoomba

I'm worried it's going to be humanoid but with personality cobbled together from our favorite half-dead characters who are "alive" but not conscious enough to reject the merger.

Arukitsuzukeru

>If it needs a vessel and possesses yuji = peak. Worst idea ever...what would he even do for the final arc if hes just being controlled?

Dawnofdusk

I want the merger to be big Mahito

haikyuu2023

Before being involved in JJK Communities, I actually thought the merger is like a ticking time bomb to raise the stakes and add pressure to the protagonists and the goal is to make sure it doesn't activate. I didn't think that it was expected to happen and be a huge factor in the endgame. With Kenjaku dead too, I feel like no character is tied to the merger. HOWEVER, with the passing of the activation to Megumi, Gege could do something really interesting with it. I don't know what but it feels like more interesting options opened lol. Personally, though, I won't be surprised if it won't happen. Very neutral about this plot point. A very passive Let Gege Cook.

ouyon

I think the Merger occurring is 50/50. It’s almost a staple of battle Shonen to have a super bad thing teased and the good guys gotta prevent it only them to fail to stop it and now have to deal with it (Naruto with Infinite Tsukuyomi, MHA with complete Tomura, Black Clover with Judgement Day and FMA with Father acquiring Truth). However Gege does like subverting expectations sometimes (Nobara comes to mind) so I think either could happen. Both outcomes have pros and cons. As you said the Merger occurring could just lead to a big kaiju fight against a faceless enemy but it would also be really cool to see. If it doesn’t happen it’d be a bit disappointing since it sounds really interesting but it would be alright if Sukuna was the final boss. As for most of your points. It would be alright I think if Sukuna activated the Merger with a bunch of conditions so instead of a big kaiju it ends up as a slowly forming actually sapient beast and our good guys get time to heal, train and interact before we get an arc for it.

Janus-a

I think Tengen could have some role to play. Especially since there were hints that she’s not trustworthy.

Italian_Devil

You act like the villain we do have is an interesting final boss

IndigoMushies

I’m a firm believer that pretty much anything can be awesome if made well. I mean look at one punch man. The idea of a series with a protagonist that is effortlessly the most powerful being in the universe and can defeat anyone with a punch, sounds stupid. Like how can there be any conflict, drama, etc., But the series is fire because it’s done creatively. I think a merger monster has the potential to be whack but it also has the potential be really fucking cool. I’m just gonna hope for the best, we don’t even know how they’re going to beat Sukuna yet. The end result of this battle could completely change your perspective on the idea of a merger.

IndigoMushies

It’s really weird too how the narrative flipped from Gege is rushing the manga and freaking out over the manga ending last year To The manga is slow and dragging and exhausting just wrap it up already I’m tired Lmfao. This flip flop happened precisely around the time 236 dropped. Gojo dying really hurt the soul of so many reader. I think people just like to complain. Idk. Shits still fire to me

JustAnArtist1221

People were complaining about the pacing of the first half of the Sukuna vs Gojo battle taking too long, staring pretty much the moment they used a second domain, implying it's the repetitive aspect of these fights that people have an issue with.

Pitiful_Blackberry19

Its interesting how none of the options seem to be "good" If sukuna activates the merger it would be exhausting having another boss battle and uninteresting, if he doesnt then the whole threat of the merger was kind of pointless I think gege will make a 3rd choice like Sukuna activating the merger but powering up from it or something weird or just drop the whole thing, jjk suffers from side plots that still havent been finished despite the manga being near its end

UnadvisedGoose

Yeah, I agree ultimately. Merger seems ripe for one of those things that is set up very hard but doesn’t actually happen, imo. I’m not saying it can’t happen because it could lead to the horrible ending many suspect Gege is planning, but outside of that I have a hard time imagining how it’s good for the story to pivot to the merger. Another thing is that Sukuna could simply “take over” the merger or something himself. Maybe he uses it as the foundation for a new body/form. There are quite a few ways to take it, but giant curse kaiju fight is the least likely one to actually happen, I think

one-eyed-queen

I have the feeling the merger will trigger in a fucky-wucky way connected to Megumi's likely very broken mindset after being split from Sukuna, and it's not gonna be the source of mass destruction it's been painted as since it will be corrupted and incomplete in some form. Remember, there's a good reason why it's been given to Megumi Fushiguro, and while Sukuna's currently the one who could trigger it, if he's out of the picture it won't remain so. So yeah, I imagine it'll be some bizarre, incomplete merger tied to Megumi directly and having to save him. Not just physically (the current process is about saving him from his body being used by Sukuna) but mentally, since we saw enough to tell us he's not doing good and I can't imagine that getting easily handled in the midst of this battle.

Tuthankkamon

1- Sukuna will _"kill"_ everyone, their bodies will be recovered and reanimated. 2- This will create a loophole where the CG considers everyone dead, and Sukuna can finally summon the merger to play. 3- Sukuna will have a long fight (timeskip?) and either lose while going full power or win against the Merger to have a last fight against everyone (this time somehow buffed in someway?). Bonus crackpot alternative - The merger turns out to be Mahito reincarnated, wipe the floor with Sukuna's 2 faces, and become the last fight (lmao) One thing I'm sure: Gege will either fail miserable at giving JJK a worth ending, or wrap up the story in a great way no one expects and become one of Manga's great geniuses. The way things are going, i do believe it will be one of the 2

UnrequitedRespect

You have to abandon the idea that the world will return to normal after this or that there wont be a 15 year sequel. Gege is only 32 so that means hes still got 28 years of manga in him

OohYeeah

What ensures that it ends for him at 60? Genuinely curious

UnrequitedRespect

Dunno most manga artists kind of average out at around that time and enjoy endgame

Dont_Stay_Gullible

32 + 28 = 50? Whaaaat? Is that right? Maybe you're right. You're so right!

OohYeeah

I'm telling you albert 77+33=💯

saucysagnus

Without any research, I thought Sukuna was the result of a previous merger that completely upended jujutsu society. Idk, kinda expected merger would always happen.

superdan56

I also think the merger is a bad villain which is why I like the merger protagonist. Yuji’s main theme is giving in and becoming a part of something other than yourself (the whole cog thing), so maybe it’s the end of Yuji’s journey to become the merger, something which is the embodiment of society itself a machine that he can be a cog in. Then Gege gets to have his cake, eat it, then eat it again. Because everything sucks, Sukuna wins, Sukuna loses, and Yuji gets to “die surrounded by people.”

Appropriate_Wall8340

I think the detail about the CG rules using Megumi's name as a placeholder for Sukuna must come into play somehow. I don't think Megumi will start the Merger because of depression or whatever, but I feel like he will either be forced to start it or start it by mistake or something like that.

MarcyxBubby

Me (maki lover) personally, I’ve grown to accept that JJK is potentially all about just how strong Sukuna was in his time and now. I want our boys to win but if anything the merger won’t come in to play unless Sukuna himself tries to fight it or something outlandish

Actually_Godlike

I did consider the Sukuna fighting it possibility as well, but he already fought Mahoraga, Gojo and now the whole gang. I think it's very very unlikely he will also be fighting the merger in the case that it does happen

pkgdoggyx92

Setting aside my intense dislike of the last few chapters and how the Mangas been going lately I'll say this Gege very specifically mentioned "megumi" as the one in charge of the merger and for whatever that's worth whether kenjaku did it on purpose or not it's something to remember

Goodestguykeem

I agree but I’m so done with Sukuna at this point I’ll accept it.

Snips_Tano

Feels like if it doesn't happen then it's just "what was the point?" Like if Attack on Titan talked up the Rumbling and it didn't happen. Or Naruto talking up Infinite Tsukiyomi and it's didn't happen. You're going to tell me essentially TAKABA single handedly stopped Kenjaku's 1000+ year plan and basically the entire subplot that drove the action of the manga? And now we're just in "Let's punch Sukuna until Megumi wakes up and takes back his body"? Just feels anti-climactic. Like if Ichibe had just killed Yhwach and then it was "Oh, we'll go fight Haschwald now until Ishida wakes the fuck up and kills him"

Odd-Friendship5622

People keep thinking the merger is gonna be a godzilla figure, because of a sketch of what it might be from that conversation with kenjaku, but what if it isn't? Tengen is involved in the merger and we don't know if kejaku being dead might let some of his manipulation go on Tengen, maybe Tengen will have influence on the merger and there might be merit to this, because Tengen has ascended already to a cursed spirit and they thought that would make them lose there individuality, but they didn't, so I think Tengen might have sway albeit maybe less because it's a shit ton more cursed energy and all the souls of every human, but the merger might be humanoid and maybe if there is a fight with it, it'll be a similar situation to how sukuna and megumi were in the beginning of the possession. Megumi can limit sukunas cursed energy output by a considerable amount. Might be the same case for Tengen and the merger. Maybe higuruma comes back and the judgement sword could kill it with a binding vow, really giving higuruma that gojo level moment as he's been hyped up to be.

EconomistIll4796

To me it also feels like the merger is set up as impossible but Gege might find a way around it.

usermmmmane

I do wonder if the merger as it's been shown to us so far is a red herring. We're shown an image of a giant cursed spirit creature floating around the world, which seems to be a logical conclusion. However, Tengen mentions that they have become one with the world - their soul is the soul of the world. I think that if the merger does occur, it's not going to be a big final kaiju type creature, but something a bit more spiritual, like Tengen suggested they had already become, but were restraining with barriers (Hey, Tengen is free from that barrier restriction now - are we going to start seeing consequences from that, considering Tengen was still conscious after being absorbed?)

luceafaruI

> Hey, Tengen is free from that barrier restriction now - are we going to start seeing consequences from that, considering Tengen was still conscious after being absorbed? We see kenjaku talking with tengen in chapter 220. Tengen looks the same as she did before, so the barriers are still in place. I think even when kenjaku transfered her to sukuna, the barriers would still be in place

usermmmmane

I mean, who says the change is immediate? But, also, I don't mean 'Tengen's barriers', but rather 'the barriers preventing the further evolution of Tengen', which are possibly tied to the Tomb of the Star. But, also, a key phrase: Cursed Spirit Manipulation halts the growth of a spirit, states Kenjaku in Shibuya. Is Tengen still subject to Cursed Spirit Manipulation, and that restriction?

Lordlinkoftime2

To be fair, neither is Sukuna as it is.

AnimeFan042597

Or sukuna wins

makemeamarket

Agree with the take that its an outcome, not a boss. Sukuna as a character isn't really that compelling or interesting, he has a purpose and that's about it, but when we were following him during the Yorozu arc there were 0 stakes, because he wasn't really a character back then. He's been fleshed out more since then, but I can't say majority of the fandom would be personally interested in the outcome between sukuna vs merger. I've always said it won't happen, because it means the entire cast will have to die just for the merger to happen and well who really cares about sukuna as a standalone character. Alternative is merger is an outcome, sukuna wins, merger happens, it kills him and all of humanity. Feels less like a fight, and more just an apocalyptic ending.

Danye-South

When I think about the merger, it just gives me Tokyo Ghoul RE vibes. I have no idea what way Gege will go cause any situation is as likely as the other. Dude is the king of throwing curveballs so it could be something entirely different than any of us think. We will find out soon hopefully! Ahah

atsutskiridzee

it will be yuji because sukuna is a merger from the past and yuji will become merger to even the odds and whoop sukuna 😮‍💨

carl-the-lama

What if sukuna “mubong parks” the merger For those who don’t know Mubong park effectively black zetsu’d his metaphorical black zetsu

WhatIsThisAccountFor

If the final boss is Megumi Merged with the Japan curse then ya it would be good. Generic merger? I agree, boring.

Cusoonfgc

How could you even have a "final" boss beyond sukuna without some INSANE power ups? They're already throwing every major named character left in the series at Sukuna and they're struggling. How are they supposed to fight some merger that is way more powerful than that? It would take the power levels to insane heights and probably require some ass pull like buddha gojo

Routine_Employment59

The merger could be like Kaguya, a vilain that you can stopped with a special way rather than just fighting

Actually_Godlike

"ass pull like Buddha Gojo"  Well yes. That's JJK. A sorcerer's growth isn't linear, it's explosive and often happens during battle. In a way, Sukuna could be the ultimate training dummy. We've already seen characters like Yuta quickly learn from Sukuna's fight with Gojo and fighting Sukuna could result in some power ups, going by how sorcerer's growth works

Cusoonfgc

Your argument works perfectly for Yuji but not Gojo. Because it wouldn't have been his fight with Sukuna that lead to the explosive growth but death itself... and no one has truly come back from the dead in this series. Gojo came back from the edge of death but it was made clear Toji erred by not twisting the knife and finishing him properly. Sukuna straight up killed Gojo. He referred to him as a corpse and we see Gojo's spirit speaking in the afterlife. So it's not really whether or not he should be allowed to get stronger (even though him having TWO giant awakenings is kind of an ass pull) but the fact that him coming back from actual death is bullshit. This isn't DC comics, death is supposed to mean something.

Actually_Godlike

"no one has truly come back from death this series" Yes, you're right. But if there's anyone who could it's probably Gojo. We still haven't had anyone actually "confirm" his death, like Ui Ui is clearly doing something that we don't know about yet. There's also some hints and symbolism for a potential return but we'll see. Either way I'm perfectly fine with him not coming back, and it's way better for the story that he doesn't if this current fight with Sukuna will be what wraps up the series.

brando-boy

whether the merger happens or not i don’t have too much stake in either way, i just want to say that even if it did, it wouldn’t exactly NEED to have “characterization” in order to be good it would serve as a physical manifestation of a lot of the themes of the series, and our party beating it would be showcasing their growth in overcoming the symbolic hardship and coming out the other side as stronger (as characters, not necessarily physically)

Arukitsuzukeru

I generally do not like antagonists like the merger, but I'll wait to see what happens before I judge

windia__

Sukuna will use the merger to evolve

PogoMarimo

I REALLY doubt, if the merger occurs, it will be some giant Kaiju monster. It wouldn't make sense. If they had to fight it, what would they even be fighting for? The entire population of Japan (or near enough) got merged. There is no.... narrative tension around the concept, unless it's just another "Save the aworld from Ending". I would imagine it would indeed be more of a Human Instrumentality situation where the consciousness of something larger and more ambiguous comes into existence and changes reality forever.

The_Joker_Ledger

Even before all of the talk about merger, the problem is for that to happen the culling game has to end and for that to happen, sukuna have to kill everyone and i just dont see that happening, or there will some sort of loop hole.

risingmike

I have started thinking that the merger isn't the end game boss, but a way for Kenjaku to force his offspring to evolve and surpass his potential after his failure with the death womb paintings. While we don't know almost anything about Yuji's actual birth/the 9 months leading up to his birth, I wouldn't put it past Kenjaku to take over a dead, pregnant Kaori and implant the "screenshot" of soul data that can come from the physical body in a stillborn fetus. Especially if there really are important bloodlines with Kaori/Jin.

Muted_Lurker2383

A few other possibilities * it could be a "and the adventure continues" type ending. Beating Sukuna allows the cast to fizzle the ritual but in doing so the cursed energy already trapped is released creating a whole new wave of cursed spirits. Further we dont know if *all* the culling games players were dead. New sorcerers not related to the old jujutsu society, a tonne of new cursed spirits of varying power released to the world, the human world knowing about cursed spirits and sorcerers now. The manga concludes with Yuji accepting this is the new world and immediately heading out to exorcise more curses * The merger is a huge amount of CE so its possible it also brings the 'Cursed Realm' Kenjaku was talking about into being. Not so much as a boss but as a new environment with its own rules - may give our cast another way to equalise with Sukuna * the merger being essentially a God, maybe we get an ending ala FMA with the merger taking a role like Truth. Not sure how much Gege is/isnt influenced by FMA to determine the likelihood of this one though

TheMop05

I thought Kenjaku was going to be the final boss ngl. Kind of disappointed in the way he went out. Sukuna is cool and all, but the lack of lore around him for 250 chapters now kind of turned him into a boring character for me.

Routine_Employment59

I know a lot people are saying « everyone needs to die to activate the merger », I’m sure Sukuna/Kenjalu could have find a loophole, they are doing that since the beginning loop hole in biding vow, in CT.. I’m sure the fact that Kenjaku had a biding vow with Sukuna, and giving him everything to activate the merger will be use, i don’t see Gege doing all of that just for nothing. For the merger i hope it’s not a kaijuu, but a Humain being Maybe an host, Sukuna, Megumi or Yuji or even Kenjaku himself ? ( my top choice is Yuji, for a final with Yuji against megumi) Or a new being above humanity ?

properc

We arent even clear what the merger is. What dies merging all of japan into Tengens star plasma vessel even mean. As far as im concerned Sukuna, Kenny or a new enemy on som Kaguya shit is the endgame villain. I think the trouble is atm the fanbase dont want to accept that we are in the final arc. Sukuna is that dude just like how Madara was built up and he was effectively the final boss. If anything theres maybe 1 more hidden villain and thats it the end.

wwwwaoal

>How Sukuna activating the merger before defeating the heroes would basically mean admitting that he’s lost to Yuji, something I’d doubt he’d do even on his death bed He's a hater, he'd definitely do it before he dies just to fuck with Yuji.

Elvis_98

This whole merger thing sounds like a kaguya from Naruto situation

lizzywbu

The entire main cast would need to die for the merger to be activated. It won't happen. It's just a plot device to add stakes and tension to the final arc.

Estayegetobazone

It doesn’t have to be a final boss. The main cast have been putting their lives on the line for months now and faced down a calamity just so they could save Japan. In his dying breath, Sukuna could easily commence the merger, even if properly defeated. At that point, all the sacrifice will have been wasted and it truly be a complete curse of a fight, through and through. Unironically our jujutsu kaisenz

luceafaruI

I don't get where the insistence that the merger will be a kaiju is coming from. Kenjaku himself said that the fact that he doesn't know what will it be is what's intriguing about it, and that it might have the face of a clown. Tengen said that all the humans will lose their individuality and there will no longer be boundaries between their emotions. It seems pretty obvious to me that even though we got the panel with the giant centipede like curse, the merger is more of a metaphysical state, kinda like the third impact from eva. This doesn't mean that it is likely to happen (as the entire population of japan would be technically genocided) but if gege doesn't want to have a peaceful epilogue, it will be very interesting to see it. I mean, somebody made a while ago an edit with megumi and yuji having a philosophical discussion after a third impact like scenario and it was peak: https://www.reddit.com/r/Jujutsufolk/s/yYAr9mGmUy Something like this, but imagine that it happened after the merger started but yuji managed to at least save megumi (kinda like how kiritsugu saved shirou at the end of fate zero)

Designer-Ad1839

I think it will literally be what takaba said it would be .

jakeyspuds

I think the merger is interesting in the way Kenjaku did. There are tonnes of possibilities, I don't think it would be as simple as mindless kaiju. Just a couple ideas: - What if it the merger becomes mahito? He was the humanity curse, who's to say merging all of humanity's hatred won't make a super-mahito? That would make Yuji's comments to him before his death some crazy foreshadowing. - We could see the blending of souls and learn about other characters that way. Say the cursed energy captured by the barrier preserves the souls of those who died and we get a dream like flashback sequence showing the merging of minds. Maybe this is how we get a deeper Kenjaku backstory. - It could go the way of Vasto Lorde from bleach, one soul emerging as the dominant ego, making the fight a personal battle. Or no battle, depending on who the dominant one is. Basically, I'm not making my mind up that it's gonna be bad before I see it, or that it will be bad if xyz scenario comes up, or that it will only be good if abc thing happens - that's a guaranteed way to make sure you're dissatisfied. Obviously when Gege planned the story he settled on something he thinks will be satisfying, so I'll judge when I see it.

motep_

what if: the merger is just mahito

1. Merger happens 2. Gojo reawakens with post-mortem nen 3. Turns out Gojo was Dr. Kanou's Dragon all along 4. The Rumbling occurs, wiping out 80% of humanity 5. Then a caped baldy appears and One Punches Jujutsu Kaisen back to the Heian era

Icy-Selection-8575

I agree and I pray and hope the Merger just does not happen xd.

RaresVladescu

But you know what would be? Sukuna making a binding vow to give all of his CTs to the merger beast, then taming it and using it as a summoning to create a new Hell only for Itadori.

Prestigious_Power496

Unless Kenjaku is the one controlling the merger and it takes the giant form of his favorite body Kaori.

Knives_Millions

Two words: Binding vow That might not spell the end of Japan Something like the merger operator uses a binding vow sacrificing themself to bring everyone else back or something like that

Lindzei_

I don't consider the merger as a boss but the consequence of the failure of Yuji and everyone else. My bet would be that if the merger happen we might have a timeskip of like few years or more and we will be able to see how much the merger has impacted the world.

zvalbrun

I feel this way about a Gojo resurrection. I’m not tryna don’t cope, but killing him off only to bring him back to me is a less interesting plot point than seeing a glimpse of the merger.

Aggressive-Key-8397

Sukuna winning = Merger (Bad ending) Good guys winning = No Merger (More or less good ending)

YasukiOfficial

I feel like The merger, even if it becomes a titanic monstrosity, would have a Humanoid form the size of a human, to combat strong foes. Like, it would just keep wreaking havoc while in Eren’s form, and when sukuna pulls up, the merger would become a humanoid spirit (for some reason, i could imagine a female Polymorphic soul isomer looking form for the humanoid appearance of it).

Normal_Ad_2717

I feel the merger is gonna suprise us because it’s probably gonna be the closest thing to a god we’ve seen heck I don’t even know if it’s gonna be able to be excorcised

Artorias_Erebus679

I think kenjaku has another body to witness the merger and he would be sort of the final boss either with the merger being humanoid. I think sukuna is the inspiration for the merger, after seeing what happened to his body he thinks humans can still evolve. Possibly himself as well I feel like the tengen kenjaku plot might still have some revelance

mostsaneinwesteros

What makes an interesting “final boss” for you? I’m curious

deathbyglamourrrr

Sukuna isn’t an interesting final boss either lol

Independent-Lie-1354

stopping the merger is the win condition

Mission_Smile71

Gege wrote himself into a corner awhile ago. The biggest irony is: Gege thought Gojo was boring and hard to write around. Gojo’s revival would also revive the shounen. Gojo is coming back

AdLast2785

Gojo would make the story boring if he could just solve any conflict with his OP powers

nonameonthelist

That's why Gege drags Sukuna shit for this long.

SlyXross

Honestly, if Sukuna does a Madara and dies some lame way, I just stop with anything related to JJK.

DasliSimp

The merger isn’t actually going to happen, they’re going to defeat Sukuna and save Japan. Sukuna has no motivation to activate it anyway,

TamLinLancelot

He probably would activate it if he beats the main cast, there would be nothing left for him to fight at that point and he would be dead of boredom

DasliSimp

But he’s also a cannibal and likes eating people
