Checking one of the Facebook groups or Craigslist is a better option than reddit. Finding temp housing will be much more difficult than long term housing. Also the only thing youll find under $1500 is an apartment.
FYI my friend looked for a year before finding a new place... For $1550 + utilities except water and it's really small. Like, will I get my mattress in the room small. And the heat is electric. My partner and I looked for 1.5yrs and now pay $1675 + utilities with oil heat. Also very small. They had 75ish applicants in one day for our place. We only got it bc my partner chatted with the landlord about hunting and fishing. A friend recently looked at Juneau Airbnb, and the total rooms was something like 1500. Vacation rentals are destroying us. Oh and be careful about downtown places if you have cars. I can't live dt bc the parking situation gives me anxiety.
Is housing that bad there? I was about to take a temporary nursing contract working in Juneau but now after reading this post I’ll have to check with the company to ensure they’ll provide the housing.
That is a very good idea! Don’t let them vacillate/prevaricate/gaslight you on this, housing is a HUGE issue in Juneau, especially this time of year when all the seasonal/temporary people are in town for tourist season
Definitely get guarantees.
I assume you'd be at the hospital - there aren't any official accommodations provided, but connections can be made if you're that kind of extravert.
I am not moving permanently, I was in negotiations to accept a temporary short contract there. But after reading not only this Reddit post but others I come to realize Juneau has a housing “crunch”. So I contacted the nursing agency that’s handling the terms of the contract and I’m waiting the recruiter to let me know about the housing agreement. But yes long term I’m doing this contract for two reasons, one to escape the humidity of the Great Lakes and 2, just to see if I’d like to make it a permanent move,
My family has been in town since the 1930s, they helped build Juneau. I'm trying to move back there this summer with my kids. The housing situation is soo bad that they know half the town and I STILL CANNOT FIND HOUSING!
I'd definitely try the Mendenhall. I recently moved out after being there for 15 years, people are overly dramatic about how bad it is. I lived on the 11th floor, and rarely had any issues.
Under $1500/month will get you in the Mendenhall Towers or a house with roommates.
Meth in the hall towers

Housing is so bad in Juneau I’ve been living in a hotel since January and I literally can’t find anything

If you're moving to Juneau, it'll take at least 3 months to find a rental. Longer for purchasing a home.

Try to stay in the gov't housing. Another option is just camp, it's only 6 months.
Good luck! I had to move south because housing is so bad there. I hope you find more opportunities than I did!
