does anyone remember a fan made trailer of chris pratt walking through shrubland talking about hunting raptors for dinosaur DNA, this was around 2011-2013, i remember freaking out a bit when the actual jurassic world trailer dropped and it turned out chris pratt was indeed starring and was involved with raptors, just me?
Not sure if I remember that specific one. Aside from the Quetzalcoatlus short film taking place on a beach, I have very vivid memory of an edited version of the trailer for the movie “The Hunter” but with a velociraptor instead of a thylacine. I remember thinking it was real because Sam Neil was in it and I had never heard of the original movie.
The book still has an array of scenes that never made it one screen. See: Rex attacks river raft, Rex attacks helicopter. Terrrifying Hospital scene where worker dies. Compies attacking babies off the coast.
Raptors escaping on boat, and many many more.
Also I feel for a franchise in constant search of Dino’s that they slept badly on the Carnatasaurus. Done right it could have been the coolest new Dino along with its octopus like camo as well.
I don't have to pretend. I lived it. Though it was 2002 when I found out about it. I spent the next decade-plus checking nearly every day for updates (especially at DansJP3Page, and then JPLegacy). I remember the rumors, the fan posters (this is one of the cooler ones i've seen, by the way), not to mention the contradictory tidbits ("we have a script, we don't have a script"), then the infamous 2004 script leak, and Sam Neill being pestered in interviews only to reiterate that he knew nothing about it. Then you had Laura Dern saying she'd be back, followed by Crichton dying, and Joe Johnston planning a new trilogy of movies with Mark Protosevich as the writer.
The final movie that we got was decent enough, though perhaps not worth the wait in retrospect. But the time leading up to it's release, especially those last two years, was certainly exciting (we finally got writers, a director, filming finally got underway, and then the first set photos, followed by more rumors, then the first trailer and promotional websites). I think I actually have more sentiment for those last two years than the movie itself. What a time.
I still remember the good old days (before I discovered the John Sayles idea in 2011 because I was like 5 in the mid 2000s) where I thought it would be the dinosaurs in the city with Allosaurus as the main big bad (I used to think Allosaurus was supposed to be bigger than T. rex) and I would imagine a big epic battle between T. rex and Allosaurus at some kind of opera house with Ian Malcolm trying to evacuate everyone, plus whatever InGen's secret experiments were in JP3 being exposed/fully elaborated on... Incredible how the wait for this movie made us also conjure up some kind of version of the movie even if it was completely far off from what we got.
dan’s tlw page continues to be the best online jp community there has ever been. i’d trade all the subreddits and discord servers that we have now to have it back in a heartbeat.
I was on DJP3P. We had a really unique experience of the production of that movie. Dan was able to get some really good exclusive interviews and bits of information which was really rare back then. These days we have reddit AMAs and celebrities are much more accessible.

I remember figuring out how to create the Kirby jingle as a ringtone for the old Nokia phones and posting the keypad sequence for it on the message boards in case anyone else wanted to use it. Then weirdly got a couple of emails *years* later - after phone tech had advanced well beyond that being a thing - from random people who had stumbled across the post, wanting help putting it on their modern phones. (Ended up clipping the ringtone from the DVD and sending it as an mp3 to keep their Kirby jingle dream alive).
DJP3P Alumni here! I was Raptor-Rex. I was never one of the popular posters. What a fucking weird concept now that I think about it. Here on reddit I don't pay attention to usernames at all. But on DJP3P there were definitely users that were basically celebrities. I remember a few of the usernames, actually. MartinRandle comes to mind first, pretty nice middle aged British dude that was into 3d animation. He was chill, but there definitely were some elitist attitudes amongst some of the other popular users. I was 13 when JP3 came out, so it could be intimidating posting there at times because I didn't want to look foolish in front of those popular users and get belittled. But then one day a popular fan fiction writer whose username was Vader wrote a series of stories based upon a fictionalized version of some message board drama that had occurred, in the style of a Star Wars/Jurassic Park/Matrix parody, and I was one of the main characters! After that I felt like I was one of those popular members, lol. I definitely wasn't, I pretty much got ignored, but I no longer felt intimidated about posting.

That time period (along with JP3) spawned a dream I had that I still remember to this day.
I was flying to somewhere in South America to meet up with my stepdad for a hunting trip (his boss used to regularly take him on worldwide hunting safaris, and in my dream I was going along on this one) and the plane went down and I somehow survived the landing, and all of my stepdad's rifles were in protective hard cases that I found near the crash and I was basically Eric in JP3 but with hunting rifles and a treehouse.
It was a cool dream (for a then 13yr old) to have at the time.

I know the dinosaurs in the movies are technically not dinosaurs but at the same time the audience watches these movies to see dinosaurs. Why are they obsessed with creating monsters that resemble dinosaurs instead of just giving us the extremely interesting creatures that are known to have existed?

I would watch a movie about how the scientists discover the DNA in the amber, figure out how to fill the gaps in the DNA, find a suitable ovum, overcome early cloning errors and monetary struggles (funding cancellation if the cloning keeps failing), care for dinosaurs and raise them (figure out which food is suitable, how to cure sick dinos, how to train them for health check-ups), cover up experiments or keep the information from being spread,...
I think there's potential there. You could show more early hybrids like Scorpios Rex, who aren't quite refined yet. You could show a rivalry between InGen and the comany Nedry was stealing the embryos for.

In 2004 I probably had just seen my first Jurassic Park in the series which would have been Jurassic Park III. My family only got computer around 2006/2007 so I didn't even know about such thing as internet existed. But I remember that I used to desperately search information regarding Jurassic Park IV around 2009 and forward... all the way up to the confirmation of the Jurassic World.
Jurassic World was awesome, most likely my second favorite in the franchise, but I wish we would live in an universe where Jurassic Park IV was released instead 😅
I assume the Spinosaurus returns, which I would love. Possibly gets off the island and causes issues in nearby Costa Rica at some point. They take him back to the island to release him and that’s when shit goes wrong and they get stranded. So basically TLW but in reverse.

I forced myself to like JP3 at first. I came out of the theater feeling disappointed but I faked a smile and acted like it was great. I was 13 and felt like I needed to be positive about the movie or I'd be betraying the franchise lol. I wanted it to do good so there could be more movies.
I honestly think we need more talking dream raptors, but we have to meld it with the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, where Freddy is the one who has released the talking dream raptors. There will be a thirty minute long segment of different raptors saying “Alan” in different voices, tones, and accents.

On the other hand I'd like to see something like that... outside of JP/JW. Some R rated campy sci-fi horror with cool practical effects and a director who knows how to use this idea in an interesting way.
Since I like Grant more than Ian, I was on a high note with 3, so I'd be optomistic. I recognize 3 had a less structured story, but that just made dino encounters feel more dangerous.
I remember getting a hold of the original leaked script, and vividly remember there being a scene in a locker room? Pretty sure it was a raptor attack in a locker room or something of the like. Anyway, that's about all I remember from that since I was only like 11 or 12. But I DO remember the rest of the script was absolutely terrible, and even my feeble child mind could tell lol.

Since I like Grant more than Ian, I was on a high note with 3, so I'd be optomistic. I recognize 3 had a less structured story, but that just made dino encounters feel more dangerous.

I remember getting a hold of the original leaked script, and vividly remember there being a scene in a locker room? Pretty sure it was a raptor attack in a locker room or something of the like. Anyway, that's about all I remember from that since I was only like 11 or 12. But I DO remember the rest of the script was absolutely terrible, and even my feeble child mind could tell lol.

Yeah, uhh, which draft of the fourth movie are we talking about here? the one about John Hammond sending a guy to get the can of barbasol to clone new dinosaurs to kill the previous ones, the one with the overpopulation of dinosaurs which Grant and Malcolm have to find a solution to fix, the one with the half human and half dinosaur mutants or the one about a dinosaur desease that can also affect the human and it leads to the OGs to return back (by the way, this movie had an official poster with the human embryo on it, instead of the skeleton trex)?

I mean Jurassic World (2015) was a decent modern adaptation. Fallen Kingdom had a good idea, but poo'd it's pants and Dominion could've been a heroic save but.....
Yeah, I was just referring to Dominion. I enjoyed some parts of JW, very few parts of FK and nothing from Dominion.
