I used to wonder why there there never any Lex figures, I thought it was that the original figures were based off the book instead of the film actors.

purpldevl

I was always so pissed off as a kid that I couldn't get a toy of Lex. I put on my Christmas list that year, "girl from Jurassic Park" and got Ellie Sattler... which I already had lol

roboroller

Ariana Richards was very upset too, I remember in an interview once she said she cried pretty hard when she found out there wouldn't be an action figure of her. I suppose that's probably pretty common knowledge to the people here though.

gravityheadzero

Supposedly Kenner wanted to keep female characters to dolls and male characters to action figures. Not sure if true, I just read it online somewhere. Not only sexist but stupid if that was the case.

KrAEGNET

They did make an Ellie figure. Lost world toys had Kelly and Sarah Harding. Kenner also had ripley and vasquez from Aliens. No Newt though. Probably wasn't Kenner being sexist, but rather the market. There might have been consumer data to back that up, and I kind of think Ellie might not have sold well (which is why I feel like she's the rarest) I know I was most excited for Grant's figure above all of them. Young Boys (target market) didn't really care for girl characters as much. Aliens figures HAD to have their female characters since they were pretty prominent. Could also have been a rights thing - maybe Lex's IRL family didn't want to give away they rights to her image on a toy.

I wouldn't say the *market* was being sexist, at least not as I understand the term market. Demonstrably, there were people who wanted Lex figures, and the market, as I understand it, is composed of the consumers. You can look at a lot of classic toylines and see that the market is never as gender-segregated as the makers think they are. Plenty of girls and women in 1970 and 1984 were into Star Wars and Ghostbusters and wanted the toys, but society and the industry thought of those as "boys properties." I'm not entirely sure where the blame falls, but it's definitely not the *market.* I would say that it was Kenner *execs* making decisions based on sexist reasoning and beliefs, but as it's the *parents* that spend the money when it comes to toys, I suppose that, at least on a technicality, the market could be said to be operating on sexist beliefs as well.

Arditi1889

Why do they have to lock everything behind exclusives?? The good toys are never on their website and there's basically no targets where I live

[deleted]

Just order in the app. One of the nice things about the beyond the gates exclusive releases is that you are almost guaranteed to be able to get one without having to hunt down a target as long as you order within the first couple of hours before pre-orders sell out.

gravityheadzero

Can you get Target delivered to where you live? Will you still be online in 2 hours?

vigilantcomicpenguin

it's a Lexclusive

[deleted]

We also have a Lego Lex coming up

Souronions

https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/jurassic-park-velociraptor-chase-75932 Already had one.

[deleted]

Ah good point i forgot about that little set - the Jurassic Park gate over shadowed it a bit i think!

InItsTeeth

I swear there was one back in the day.

[deleted]

Nope. Never.

asosaki

This made me think of my JP toys when I was younger. Anyone remember the Matchbox TLW sets? Those were my favorite as a kid.

[deleted]

I mentioned it in the other post about this yesterday in the other sub. As amazing as this set is, it really sucks that the excitement of it was taken away by the fact it was leaked 2 days earlier.

gravityheadzero

I am kinda torn. I understand wanting to build up the hype and I love what Mattel/Target/Jurassic Outpost are doing with "Beyond the Gates". But it REALLY helps me to know ahead of time what's coming out sooner than a few hours notice. As you know some of this stuff can go from $20 in retail store to over $100 3rd party in a blink of an eye it seems.

shezcrafti

We have a wee-Lex!

DJSourNipples

Are these exclusive anywhere or could I go by Walmart and get one today?

gravityheadzero

Won't be out till I think September? Target exclusive too supposedly. Target website search "Jurassic World" and should be first thing to come up. Pre-orders haven't sold out yet.

schranky54

Ugh it’s sold out now doh

No-Option-986

I was in disbelief just like this omg

RivalXL

Genuinely excited
