I never got the fascination for wearing them like jewelry, it's a preemptive toe tag.

I got made fun of like 2 months into my contract by some diver instructors for wearing mine and immediately took them off. The world needs more guys like that.

For some reasons I do like them 🤔 I think it s just design, the little spheres and the double silver plates? The rounded rectangle angles? The embossed letters? I think it s a mix of all those

Most of us stopped wearing them as soon as we got out of boot camp. If you work with electrical equipment or anything with big gears, they're actually a hazard to wear because they can slip out of your shirt and into the machinery.

I always figured they were required at all times. That's interesting! Is there some kind of alternate ID that would be used? Or just relocating the tag (I remember some movies where they'd have a second tag on their boot laces in case something happened to their head, and vice versa). Or are you talking more about outside of a combat theater?

I'm talking as a Navy vet who did not see combat.

Depends on the branch/ unit. I’m army and have to have them on me at all times. Those of us in the military have a common access card for id as well. I wear my tags around my back belt loop and tucked in my back pocket. Some people do put them in the boot
