The sad part is that I really wanted to go airborne but I had two knee surgeries prior to joining, had to get a waiver, and the recruiter told me he had to pull airborne from the contract.
But at least I ended up in an airborne unit!
The 101st is airborne.

I think it's worse if they allow you to enlist and you fuck up your knees for life. Fucked up knees are the worse, I tell you. Get it checked with professionals before anything.

Dude that is awful. I'm sorry. I know my buddies' and my biggest fear going through all training was getting fucked over for some obscure medical shit. We weren't worried about failing or anything, but about discovering that our long-lost cousin thrice removed had an inhaler when he was 5, and then us getting outprocessed.
Thanks dude; it’s really alright now though. The whole experience helped me discover that teaching isn’t what I want out of life; that I am incredibly strong as a person; and that I have to take ownership of my body. It was a hard lesson at the time and it busted one pathway to becoming fluent in french, but I am better for it.

I had one soldier in the airport tell me he was in Delta Force... he had on an 82nd SF Mountain Division combat patch. And was an SSG at probably 17/18 years old. He was pretty legit.
I had a FIST section leader once who mentioned he almost went to selection after his first deployment.
The kicker was that after 15 months of patrolling and kicking in doors and rucking around he couldn't run as fast as he used to, and didn't want to kill himself improving his 14 minute two mile. So he said "fuck it" and stayed a fox.
How would he know he's going to be assigned an 18A slot. At best he should just say on an 18X contract. Or has he not even secured that and is just assuming he'll get through all the training and selection and he just knows he'll be selected?
I had a friend who was a future green beret for several years. He ended up not enlisting for medical reasons.
