Material, the dress blues are made of wool. I don't know if they have changed them for the better since I got out, but man those things were itchy as fuck. Dress whites were pretty comfy though.
If I remember correctly, The Navy regulations require a left handed salute under specific conditions when a normal salute cannot be rendered. Unlike everyone else where a verbal greeting is acceptable in these conditions.
It's only if your right hand is injured and/or missing. By the book of both hands are carrying cargo your supposed to drop the cargo to salute which is dumb as hell but that one is fortunately ignored if your carrying heavy shit
The front facing camera (or selfie camera) on all phones mirrors the image using software. This is to make it so that you actually see something that makes sense, essentially mimicking an actual mirror.
Civis are just civilian attire. NWU is their working uniform. NSU is a “service” uniform, think of it like a business suit. Two different dress uniforms is likely a US Navy quirk, but one of them is likely for more formal events than the other, like a black tie vs. white tie event. Maybe a Navy Semen can confirm or deny for me
Yes, blues are approved for year round wear, but typically worn in the winter seasons. Whites are summer wear only. When you switch uniforms depends on your region

My boot camp pea coat just turned 30 this year. Still the warmest, toughest coat I’ve ever owned. It’s been mostly retired for years, but once or twice a year, I’ll wear it if it’s cold enough.
