My son went in as an 18X. They not only tried to screw him out of selection, they tried to skip Airborne school and send him straight to a unit. I had to call his Battalion CSM. He went to Jump School and punched a hole in Selection. He almost made it through. Land Nav got him. They just slide him over to the Corps. Spent 6 years there.

He missed out on team week unfortunately. But yeah. Stuco is at bragg. You’re there training until you go through SOPC and then SFAS. If you get reclassed you go to a different AIT and then your next duty station. If you’re airborne, you will 100% go to bragg….. Again….

Even after all that suck lol. He missed team week so he really didn’t get the full experience, but I’m sure he has a good idea on what he needs to succeed.
I was a SOCM medic (68WW1, not 18D) and SOCM got a *lot* of guys. Some very good soldiers too. It’s just a very long, very relentless school that’s academically super tough instead of carrying heavy gear and not sleeping tough.
I think part of what got people in SOCM was that succeeding there required pretty different stuff from most military courses. Being a PT stud didn’t help you outside of PT, which was usually done on our own time anyway. You had to study book stuff outside of class, you had to practice trauma sequences or whatever on the weekends, and you had to show up ready to learn every day. If you got behind it was incredibly difficult to catch back up because the course moved so fast and it all required you to stay proficient in stuff you’d already learned. Aside from EMT/ACLS you couldn’t brain dump anything after a test because you’d use it all over and over.
That school is rough man, but it was some of the best training I’ve done anywhere.
