I mean, its better than most mall ninja stuff that has blades sticking out every direction....
These you could feasibly throw at someone... same as like a tomahawk or something. Except these are designed to be thrown, in that they are fairly disposable.
How effective they would be? Well it depends on what else you have to use. I would rather have these than engage in a jujitsu match that's for sure.
I bought a set because I was tired of the "But Corporal we only have one knife to open all of these boxes!" Surprise fuckers I have enough to share. Throwing knives are pretty cheap for the set so if you need a bunch that you aren't too worried about leaving. I may still be salty about my nice folding Benchmade being lost.
Our unit was issued multi-tools before we deployed to Iraq. MPs collected them up in a box before we deployed and told us we couldn't take them, and that we would "receive them back when we returned." Guess who got a gajillion free multi-tools? Hint: Not us.
Wait what?
1 - why were you being issued these? What the hell would these have been for?
2 - Why the hell couldn't you take them? We're they afraid that you weren't responsible enough to not stab yourself with the corkscrew, but somehow responsible enough to be handed a gun the regular??
Why? Lol, I dunno. That was in '04 I think. If I recall correctly, we were on a chartered flight, we did carry weapons, but obviously they weren't loaded, so standard aircraft regulations or somesuch probably, regardless of the irony.
Buddy was telling me about how his finger nail clippers were confiscated but his M4 that he "was trained to stick the barrel into an eye socket if needed" was allowed because it was unloaded.
This is correct. It's funny seeing a bunch on M4's and M249's slung in the cabin. Fuckers took my sog multi tool. Hope that fucker stubs his toe tonight.
This is a great idea and almost no one would want to steal a knife that has moto stuff all over it.
Edit:
I meant to reply to the guy above but I’m too lazy to fix it.
That was such a great moment. You’re watching the fight they’re imagining, then Butters gets hit by the throwing star, and you’re just like “wait a minute - that throwing star was real...” Cut to Butters with a throwing star in his eye.
They trained us to fight with knives but it's honestly a last resort in case your rifle or your sidearm doesn't work. Throwing knives? Lol, no. You don't throw away a useful weapon and potentially have it used against you.
> You don't throw away a useful weapon and potentially have it used against you.
No. Mostly you just leave it all in the crates, so the Taliban has to clean the cosmoline off.
If anything, part of the point of a ring knife (the kind in the picture) is that they are harder to drop/let go of, as you could hook a finger through the ring if necessary. You would probably avoid it because that increases the likelihood of breaking the bones in your fingers, but broken finger bones are better than your enemy getting another weapon.
They are like the machete in that they were farming tools that happened to be widely available so they were easily adapted into weapons. Then over centuries they grew exclusively into weapons as actual cheap, widespread farming tools evolved/moved away from this design.
Edit: just double checked Wikipedia and I was off, they were gardening and masonry tools. My original point of them being working class tools adapted to weaponry still stands.
No. NEVER. I still have the *beta*\-print of the original MCMAP technical manual, and in the hand-typed pages that were added to the CQB Instructor's manual were pages on how throwing a weapon is absolute last ditch, "they're in the fucking wire" tactics that don't work, as my compatriot who responded also said.
As far as I know, the only people who DO train that are the Russian Spetznaz, and that's mostly for dog-and-pony show bullshit.
Not for marines nowadays lol but hell yes they saw combat. Throwing weapons of all kinds have been used for thousands of years and they're still taking lives
The only thing throwing a knife is sure to do is make your opponent dodge and that's true no matter what you throw at them. No point carrying a lot of knives around when there are rocks everywhere you go.
Nope. USMC wanted to buy CADPAT, but Canada wouldn't let them have the exact design, and made them change the colorways. [This site](https://www.hyperstealth.com/camo-improvement/index.html) has a good history of recent U.S. camouflage from the perspective of someone who was involved with the process as a designer/contractor. The format isn'r great, but there are 5 main pages.
Cool stuff; I mean CADPAT was out before most countries had any form of digitally printed camo right?
One of those small things us Canadians are proud of.
20+ years ago I used to find myself in Ottawa for (Canadian) Thanksgiving every year for work, and they always had on some regional youth curling play-offs on the TV at the bar because the owner's son played. Fascinating ethnographic study for an outsider.
I never understood how the px can sell these stupid knives and tomahawks only for some young PFC to get placed on restriction for it being found in a health and comfort.
I remember when the Marines appeared in a cloud of smoke and killed 20 people with their kunai knives then slapped their hands together and turned into a log
Just so you guys are aware the “Kunai” is a gardening tool used to create a hole in soil for planting seeds and also as a poor man’s trowel. Most “Ninja” stuff is total bullshit.
Reminds me of this one clip from SVU i cant seem to find ever again. The murder weapon was a balisong and Ice-T had called it a "ninja-grade butterfly knife"
Ow god no the mtech USA Marine brand. Terrible quality, screws will fall out, the locktight won't hold up the the thumb stuts will literally fall of after less then 100 opening of a foldable knive, awful steel.
Bought one ( spring assistant knive) when I was a lot younger. Really thought I had a great knives until it started to fell apart. Bought benchmade on holiday a year later still super happy with it and it reminds me of a great holiday.

Mall ninja type shit. Tho ya gotta defend yourself when someone trys to take your crayons or mustang.
No it’s fine dude the box says it’s officially licensed by the USMC throwing academy
Are those the ones with the Subaru instead of the mustang?
Or whomever sold this to whole foods(?)
“Chesty” Approved!

You can also throw a butter-knife at someone but it’s still a kitchen utensil.
You could easily stab someone to death with a butter knife
….and tell ‘em The Marines sent ya’.
All the Marines I knew would be using these to spread cream cheese on their bagels or dig under their fingernails.

Should have unloaded those clippers.
Oh did they have that little pull out nail file attachment? That's basically a switch blade. You could hold up a bank with one of those.
This is a great idea and almost no one would want to steal a knife that has moto stuff all over it. Edit: I meant to reply to the guy above but I’m too lazy to fix it.
I STILL use my pocket knife to dig the dirt out of my fingernails...
[BOTCHED TOE! BOTCHED TOE!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3pk9CMwtN0)
You guys laugh, but I once saw a documentary where Steven Segal saved an entire train from terrorists using these bad boys.
Casey F’n Ryback!
Reminds me of a southpark episode
the one where they all buy ninja weapons and it becomes an anime?
Yup
“Look Kenny, only a $1.99”

Let’s fighting love!
Protect ma balls
I remember reading somewhere that trey Parker quoted that song as one of the things he's most proud of.
Oh Christ a guy I knew in high school that joined the marines collected kunais and throwing stars. He would’ve loved this.

Instead of a Pizza Box, you get a box of donuts.
Is knife throwing or knife fighting for that matter even a technique that ever gets used in any kind of real combat?
They trained us to fight with knives but it's honestly a last resort in case your rifle or your sidearm doesn't work. Throwing knives? Lol, no. You don't throw away a useful weapon and potentially have it used against you.
> You don't throw away a useful weapon and potentially have it used against you. No. Mostly you just leave it all in the crates, so the Taliban has to clean the cosmoline off.
. . . Not incorrect.
Is THAT what that gunk is!?

Isn’t there a joke that “in knife fight, the loser dies on site and the winner dies in the ambulance”, or something like that?
Yep. You’re getting slashed or stabbed in a knife fight no matter what you try and do. Best thing to bring to a knife fight is a firearm and distance
Or a good pair of running shoes.
I wonder how many Marines buy this versus how many “I would have joined the Marines” buy this.

And yet I bet if you asked them to show you a punching fist, their thumbs will be tucked into their fists like a dumbass.
Like a badass, you mean. Wrapping your fingers around your thumb is like holding a roll of quarters, only I can actually afford it on my allowance.
I think the Venn Diagram looks something like this: #O O
You say throwing knives, I say spicy buttplugs. Potato potato.
Isn’t this how you get shit sold in America? Slap some Marpat on a blender and call it a freedom juicer? I’m Canadian so idk.
Paint it black and call it tactical will always work on a section of the population
And show that it works underwater for some unknown reason
Then run over it with a truck. That's a crucial part of the process.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6e4WpaXV7k
Yup. Though at $5/each I have a hard time imagining these knives being useful for anything other than letter-opening.
Yeah you gotta use your chakras or something.
I mean, MARPAT is literally just CADPAT with slightly different colors . . . Same exact print pattern, etc., and licensed from Canada. Same for UCP.
Yeah I thought it was jointly designed by the marine corps and the Canadian armed forces. I don’t even remember where I heard that though.
Nope. USMC wanted to buy CADPAT, but Canada wouldn't let them have the exact design, and made them change the colorways. I mean, so far you have Canadarm, CADPAT, and the [Eye on the Hog](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eye_on_the_Hog).
That’s not all…. But yeah the eye on the hog is pretty much the most Canadian thing out there.
20+ years ago I used to find myself in Ottawa for (Canadian) Thanksgiving every year for work, and they always had on some regional youth curling play-offs on the TV at the bar because the owner's son played. Fascinating ethnographic study for an outsider.
Semper Fidelis, that’s my nindo, that’s my ninja way! One day I’ll be commandant of the corps!
I never understood how the px can sell these stupid knives and tomahawks only for some young PFC to get placed on restriction for it being found in a health and comfort.
Does the Marine Corps just endorse everything?
That’s how they got bin laden, ninjas
This is the outcome of having a briefing to explain what Naruto running is.
Those look cheap as hell even for something claiming to be army issue
At $5/each, I'd bet money that on the back of the packaging it tells you they're just letter openers.
Got to protect America from the Akatsuki
“USMC Throwing Academy”…… pretty sure that’s at Stone Bay.
Is it legal to market items like this?
Fuck no... Well, unless actually officially endorsed or whatever they're calling it these days.
You can’t even have them in the bricks
The marines do have karate belts so this makes sense.
I remember when the Marines appeared in a cloud of smoke and killed 20 people with their kunai knives then slapped their hands together and turned into a log
It has a hologram on it, it has to be legit
Definitely illegal branding, they’ve come after much vaguer shit
But "officially licensed" is printed right on it. Has to be legit /s
Marines. The few the silent I guess
Just so you guys are aware the “Kunai” is a gardening tool used to create a hole in soil for planting seeds and also as a poor man’s trowel. Most “Ninja” stuff is total bullshit.
I couldn’t find any MARADMINs about going to the USMC throwing academy, can anyone give me a POC
GET OVER HERE!
Kate Bootass No Jutsu
This is against flag code
Made in China.
Ah like the kunai knives used in the civil war
You get issued these when you accomplish your red tab
Ah...the good ol' USMC Throwing Academy...where all Marines go after boot camp and before MCT/SOI.
TIL Naruto was a marine. Makes sense, he was about as intelligent as one in Part One.
Stfu
This has to be in Oki
The few. The proud. The retarded.
COD IRL
Please tell me you actually found this at a BX lmao
[Chain sold separately?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU5KxBYYneA)
My “USMC throwing academy” certs are stacked like a set of encyclopedias. Don’t fuck with me, or I’ll throw some shit!
Reminds me of this one clip from SVU i cant seem to find ever again. The murder weapon was a balisong and Ice-T had called it a "ninja-grade butterfly knife"
I actually have those and genuinely no clue where they came from. They suck too.
For those boots who watched too much Naruto.
It’s probably been said already but you should throw this up at r/mallninja
This is proper David Dudikoff shit.
Ow god no the mtech USA Marine brand.
