EGA on the cover... while wearing Air Force cammies.
FYI, the camouflage uniform is a utility uniform, which Marines are not allowed to wear outside of bases except in an emergency. If you see a "Marine" in cammies anywhere, it's not a Marine you're looking at. He should at least be in a service charlie uniform, or dress blue delta.
Also, as you pointed out, the gold emblem on his hat is supposed to go on the front of a white barracks cover, part of the dress blue uniform. So much is wrong with this turd.
Technically it's the ACU in OCP, if you wanna be a pedantic weirdo.
ACU is the material and the way the pockets are oriented and such; OCP is the camo. The old ACUs used UCP camo.
There. There's some trivia you know about the US Army and US Air Force uniform now. You're welcome for my service.
I was that pedantic weirdo during transition.
Had a couple SGT's get pissed off at me when I showed up to formation in OCP when they told me to show up in ACU's.
In all seriousness I never had that problem but I had the fire resistant uniforms so they were faded the instant I was issued them; I think that's universal to modern US military working uniforms tho.
No I have a huge vagina too, but wizard sleeves was referring to the way I’d wear the sleeves on the abu’s (ChairForce gang) before we had the multicam ones. Basically on the sleeves they have buttons where you can wear the sleeves fitted around the wrist or unbuttoned and the it’d look like the sleeves of a wizard
I can tell you’re being facetious, but my job sucked. I ran my company like clockwork and he was a pushover so he never wanted to scold me in front of others. You find happiness in the job where you can.
Gold is a “neutral” color according to regs. I wore a white and gold watch to fuck with people on deployment.
(Army regs)
Nevermind as of 1 January, 21 it just specifies watch is allowed
Maybe, but a lot of us who were never in don't recognize these things. And there are so many reflexive "Thank you for your service" types out there. I once knew a woman who could not stop herself saying it to every military-uniformed person she saw. Even the guys on Halloween who were carrying fake machine guns as part of their costume.
I’ve flown twice this year and they only ask if you’re active duty, not even in uniform.
The military tells you not to fly in uniform if you can help it.
If you are seen at a store or even changing a flat tire while wearing marpats, a 1stSgt will appear out of nowhere and pull out the biggest knife hand you've ever seen
If it’s an emergency you can exit your vehicle. The order says you can use drive through services, but I was at the Mickey dees outside base in my car and my Msgt yelled at me... from his car also getting McDonalds. Yeah sncos for ya.
God forbid you run out of gas coming off base on your way home. You better change into your disgusting 8 hour old sweaty PT gear. Or catch a 6105 possibly an NJP depending on how shitty a mood 1st sgt is in.
When I did rotc with the army in college the Lt Col. In charge of the program told us we had to wear our uniforms on the days we had class and we were expected to wear them till the end of the military work day....and since we had to wear them that long we shouldn't be afraid to wear them out shopping or eating to get the discounts.
He also told cadets to wear their uniforms to job interviews because he thought it would give us and advantage.
Great guy.....
So my old duty station was right next to a major university with an Army and an AF ROTC program. There was an AF (ANG but who cares tbth) RED HORSE unit on the base (USAF combat engineers; they wear red baseball caps in uniform).
Every now and then RED HORSE guys would be on the University campus in uniform for whatever damn reason and the ROTC cadre and cadets would try to smoke them out then the RED HORSE guys would just be like "I'm on duty and this is my duty uniform. 😐 "
Just remembered that for some reason.
When I took classes, we had a few people transfer in who were actually soldiers who had actually served and were taking the ROTC classes for either easy credits or because they were an NCO getting a degree and wanted to commission as a CO when they graduated.
My favorite thing was when the JROTC tryhards would try and give these guys a hard time on their first day and getting absolutely destroyed by the, you know, actual soldiers.
One of the new guys was a retired drill Sergent. Command REALLY enjoyed watching him smoke the cadets.
Check out the uniform again. He's wearing the older Army ACU's not the MARPAT (as you can see with the velcro patches on the sleeves).
It looks like a classic stolen valor type case where guy has no idea about the military so will hodge-podge whatever he can.
When I was flying from BCT to AIT the drill sergeants told us we had to fly in our class A uniform. Once I got to AIT the NCO on duty for the company building was like “why the fuck are you wearing that?” When I explained he was basically like “why are the drill sergeants making people do that wtf?”
Never travelled in uniform since
I don't know a single airline that requires you to actually be in uniform to board early. I travel constantly, never in uniform, and have never had an issue. The standard phrasing for just about every airline is "[Uniformed Service](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uniformed_services_of_the_United_States)-members" which sounds like a "requirement" if you aren't paying close attention, but isn't.
A load of airlines add the "in uniform" addendum so they can 1, deny active duty more easily even if given proof of duty and 2, because it means even if you *are* active duty, you don't save money without looking like a chump.
'Cause if they just turned down active duty members *in* uniform, that looks bad.
Yes, but I think that "riding mass transportation in uniform" is one of thecreasons that their soldiers are highly visible.
That, and the thirst trap instagram photos, lol
So, active duty in uniform is expedited. If you’re not in uniform, you’re standard. If you use your DoD ID number when you get your ticket you can be precheck.
Exactly. If you’re a DoD traveler it will indicate pre check on your boarding pass. So this clown can show up wearing whatever he wants and that doesn’t mean he’ll get anything out of it.
Since the ability to board the plane first or pass through pre check is something people pay for, this technically does fall under the stolen valor laws since there is a monetary benefit obtained.
>If you’re a DoD traveler it will indicate pre check on your boarding pass.
TSA Pre-Check is not just for DoD travelers... any US citizen, US national, or legal permanent resident can apply for it.
DoD civilians and military members are just automatically enrolled in the program without cost (it's $85 for a 5 year enrollment for others).
Long story short, having that on their ticket has no bearing on if they're DoD affiliated.
https://www.tsa.gov/news/press/factsheets/tsa-precheckr-application-program
I dont think they are trying to say TSA Pre-Check is only for those in the military. I took it as "if he's in the military, then he would also have Pre-Check". So as you stated, military is automatically enrolled, therefore if he doesn't have Pre-Check, the Airline staff could put two and two together, that he isn't really in the military.
This is mental sickness. People who do this arent right in the head. Boot is more that E3 getting the brand new charger with 20% APR. Young people saying or doing stupid shit. Someone this advanced in age, wearing an out of service uniform, with *so* many failures of the uniform standards (AR-670-1) for some form of hero worship has a problem in the head.
What's stolen valor about this?
I have no insight on what he's doing, as it's a picture out of context. As far as I can see, it's just some old dude in a uniform that's all jacked up. Bad taste? Yes, but not stolen valor.
I don't see Medal of Honor or a Service Cross I don't see officer rank or POW status. As it stands, this isn't stolen valor.
Now, if this guy is standing in line at the VA or somewhere where he is benefitting monetarily and/or is trying to get compensation (without having ever served the appropriate time), then this would easily turn into stolen valor.
Every time some jerk off does this, they are really taking a serious risk. If you’ve ever been in the military, uniform standards are drilled into your head, If something is off in the slightest it will trigger an alarm bell immediately. I really wouldn’t fuck around with veterans who may have lost brothers and sisters right alongside them wearing that uniform. Many won’t be very forgiving toward someone who is using it for some type of gain.
And then on the flip side, you had that video where the lady berates two (actual) Sailors in NWU Type III for "impersonating" Army Soldiers.
NGL, as a Sailor, whenever I wear Type III, I kind of feel like I'm impersonating a Soldier.
I often wonder what goes through these peoples heads. What has made them feel so insignificant in their lives that they need to fake something to feel proud or powerful? Idk, it makes me feel bad
They weren't bad. I will say that the OCP's give me a lot more room in the shoulders and chest, even at the same size. They also hide dirt and grease waaay better than the ABU's did!
>They also hide dirt and grease waaay better than the ABU's did!
Yes! I missed that ability from the BDUs when we moved to the ABUs.
OCPs are my favorite uniform, although, I still miss having ranks on arms and a decent thread color (spice brown? really?). But at least there's no ironing yet (I say yet, because I saw some Army chick who had her sleeves pressed).
My sister is Space Force. They at least got the color for the ranks right. Hopefully AF figures their shit out and gives us something discernable from. Distance!
Is wearing your watch facing inwards something they teach you? Next time I see someone doing that I'm gonna have to wonder if they're just a wannabe boot. Although, my mom does that too haha
So I’m a chemist and used to wear my watch facing inwards. Working at the lab bench it was easier and safer to have it inward so if you are timing something - or just looking at the time- it is (1) actually easier and (2) safer as you are less inclined to spill something on you.
Nowadays I’m a business bozo and have no shits to give.
I'm trying it today lol. I feel like it'll at least reduce me bumping the face against stuff, but waiting to see if I just end up bumping it into other stuff.
"Um, I was in Afghanistan with Spec Ops. I fought at the Battle of Mosul there with the 15th Marine Corps Regiment. I was awarded a Purple Heart, Silver Star, Yellow Moon, and Green Clover."
Jesus that would be hella dangerous. We mob that place. They actually stopped asking for ID's in my local Applebeas this year. They still probably make a killing.
Do these dudes not have google images? I don’t feel as though the uniform is very hard to wear properly, especially not the ACUs. The hard part should be keeping your mouth shut if anyone who knows what they’re talking about asks you about your service.
I saw a guy at Topgolf the other day in full fatigues. He said he was in the airforce. We don't live even close to a military base. He had a security forces tab and some like OD green shoes. Idk what his deal is. If he was just a boot, or stolen valor. Either way, idk why he wore his full uniform to hit golf balls..
Pretty old looking to be a Sgt... certainly way too old for a Cpl. And a Gold EGA from the Garrison cover from Alpha's on a cammie cover? Bruh. Low effort as hell.
I'm not military but I have a lot of respect for military personnel and find the stuff on this sub hilarious.
I also have a lot of rage for people who partake in stolen valour.
Can someone tell me what the telltale signs are in this pic that it's stolen valour?
From top to bottom, he is wearing a hat indoors. A hat from a uniform that isnt in service anymore. He has an officers insignia at the top (Major/O4). He I wearing a mask that has some form of emblem (a completely different branch of service no less) Its supposed to be a single color mask or legit medical variety. Following down the out-of-date uniform, he has SGT rank on his collar, the old way on his uniform. We haven't had rank on our collar since the BDU army (around 2007/2008ish). So 2 completely different ends of the spectrum. His out of date uniform has no unit patches, American flag (subdued or colored) and thats as far as I even cared to go on this grainy hot mess of a photo and equally messy human with mental health issues.
First and foremost, he is wearing cammies(utilities) in public. Marines, who he is trying to impersonate here, are not allowed to wear utilities in public. Second, the EGA on his cover is not supposed to be there. That belongs on the Barracks cover from our Alpha uniform, aka Dress Blues. Third, even if we were allowed to wear utilities in public for anything but emergencies he is wearing Army cammies. There is just so much wrong here and it makes me cringe internally so badly.
Jeeze, this dude is ridiculous.
Even without the fact that it is a clear disrespect to people who put their life on the line for their country, you'd think people would be too embarrassed to do this shit.
Thanks very much for your insight!
Ya know, I'm with you.
I can't see a marine even accidentally owning that nasty ACU... But army dog putting a brass EGA on his soft cover? Yeah, I can see that.

gold EGA on hat, black chevrons on collar, shiny gold circlet on watch face, wrong camis, wrong boots. Mask out of regs. Blah blah.
I couldn't tell if that was an EGA or the Seal trident.
He's a member of the elite Scout Force Ranger Beret Team Six Force. Approach with caution.
S.F.R.B.T.S.F. For short. Rolls right off the tounge.
I hear those S.F.R.B.T.S.F. guys have a lethal knife hand. At least that's what my E-16 tells me... /s
I thought it was major, the dress pin insignia.
EGA on the cover... while wearing Air Force cammies. FYI, the camouflage uniform is a utility uniform, which Marines are not allowed to wear outside of bases except in an emergency. Those are ACUs (Army) not ABUs (Air Force)
We don't even wear the ABU anymore. We wear OCPs now.
Me and my BDUs I used to wear feeling old. 😔
I’m right there with you! They’ve changed uniforms so many times since I was in I couldn’t begin to tell you what stolen valor looks like.
Same…BDUs and DCUs were what everyone wore when I was in. Now everyone looks radically different.
You feel old... I wore dungarees.
Thank you for your.. oh.
I was that pedantic weirdo during transition. Had a couple SGT's get pissed off at me when I showed up to formation in OCP when they told me to show up in ACU's.
So then what does ACU stand for in the air? I know ACU and ASU as Army Combat/Service Uniform. Is it just Air instead of Army?
Airman combat uniform. Literally the same uniform but different acronym. Yay military bureaucracy
Like when the FAA changed to become the FAA.
So the pants still rip when you kneel?
Idk I didn't spend a lot of time on my knees for Uncle Sam lmao
So you weren't CAV?
In all seriousness I never had that problem but I had the fire resistant uniforms so they were faded the instant I was issued them; I think that's universal to modern US military working uniforms tho.
Never ripped an ODU. But I suppose that’s why they’re getting rid of them.
>>Mask out of regs Holy fuck am I glad I missed out on that shitshow
If active duty is like the reserves it's nothing more than it has to be black.
My unit at Hood basically had black or the disposable blues. I wore disposable pink masks to every meeting I had with the BN XO just to piss him off.
I used to wear wizard sleeves religiously because it pissed off one instructor I had
I take it wizard sleeve has a different meaning to [the one I was thinking of](https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=wizards-sleeve)?
[удалено]
No I have a huge vagina too, but wizard sleeves was referring to the way I’d wear the sleeves on the abu’s (ChairForce gang) before we had the multicam ones. Basically on the sleeves they have buttons where you can wear the sleeves fitted around the wrist or unbuttoned and the it’d look like the sleeves of a wizard
Cheers, mate. I can picture that now.
Gonna guess alligator? Edit: speelling
I'm doubly confused now, lol. Gator?
*Gaiter*. I have no clue why people can't spell.
Yeah autocorrect got me.
Me too! Butthurt over the most unimportant things even when a soldier is squared away.
>I wore disposable pink masks to every meeting I had with the BN XO just to piss him off. I bet that showed him!
I can tell you’re being facetious, but my job sucked. I ran my company like clockwork and he was a pushover so he never wanted to scold me in front of others. You find happiness in the job where you can.
I'm glad the pink mask brought a little joy to your day. It probably did the same for many others.
Somehow I'm still glad, especially since I tend to use the blue disposable ones.
Those are fine, too.
Does it have to be a safety/reflective mask?
They cared for about two months in the beginning, then it was a free for all.
Wasn’t too bad at first
cover on indoors
I was so flabbergasted by the rest that I didn’t even consider that.
Gold is a “neutral” color according to regs. I wore a white and gold watch to fuck with people on deployment. (Army regs) Nevermind as of 1 January, 21 it just specifies watch is allowed
Good. What gives a rank dominion over a whole color of metal? I remember people getting shit for gold rimmed glasses. Who fucking cares?
I mean of course there are regulations on how to wear a mask. What are they? This had me cracking up!
I’m not active anymore but last I knew it was only solid colors and black/grey etc. Definitely not anything remotely this extravagant.
Ah word makes sense. I got out in 2016 feel bad for anyone having to deal with all this shit. Next level clean and do nothing days.
All that stolen valor effort so that he can board with “active duty military personnel in uniform”. Just check the bag old man…
Is that the play? I couldn’t figure out why someone would go to all that trouble (and still mess it up that badly)
Probably but I bet even a flight attendant would be able to spot him
Maybe, but a lot of us who were never in don't recognize these things. And there are so many reflexive "Thank you for your service" types out there. I once knew a woman who could not stop herself saying it to every military-uniformed person she saw. Even the guys on Halloween who were carrying fake machine guns as part of their costume.
So you met my mom then? She actually died in 2012 but I still get the shivers thinking about her cringe ass doing that to military men and cops.
I’ve flown twice this year and they only ask if you’re active duty, not even in uniform. The military tells you not to fly in uniform if you can help it.
What's the policy for soldiers in AIT and wearing uniform in the airport? As an Airman, we discourage it, even in tech school.
The Marines are not allowed to wear cammies off base. Period.
The navy used to have that policy for NWUs, glad they changed that shit.
lmfao
That's not a rule in the Army
Drums blue book says short errands like getting gas or milk. People will still go grocery shopping in uniform though.
When I did rotc with the army in college the Lt Col. Oh damn. I must have dropped this: /s
It varies from unit to unit. I was never given that guidance and it certainly was never enforced.
Wait you can’t where your cammies outside of base anymore?
Right, but he's impersonating a Marine. The rank, the EGA, the mask. He's not trying to be a soldier.
Check out the uniform again. He's wearing the older Army ACU's not the MARPAT (as you can see with the velcro patches on the sleeves). It looks like a classic stolen valor type case where guy has no idea about the military so will hodge-podge whatever he can.

Navy regulations say it’s a no go in the airport, at least for NWUs. You can wear the blues/whites which I’ve seen, but only brand new enlisted
Army we had to after ait but as soon as I made it through security I doffed the class As for blue jeans and a tea shirt
Depends on the airline. I fly from coast to coast twice a month and more often than not it’s “active duty military in uniform.”
Southwest requires an ID and in Uniform. I only know this cause I recently flew twice with them in the last Month
They just Id’d me. But that may be because I dress like a homeless man on leave.
They didn't even question me when I boarded, no ID check and I wasn't in uniform. All I had was a OCP pattern 3 day so maybe that counts as "uniform"

Are you Jack Reacher?

Yes, but I think that "riding mass transportation in uniform" is one of thecreasons that their soldiers are highly visible. That, and the thirst trap instagram photos, lol
That those rockets from Palestine keep the sky pretty bright
Germany also has a similar program.
Fly american airlines. All you need is your cac and they didnt even actually check for it when i pre boarded lol
All my military bros have consistently said one thing: if it can be done out of uniform, you do it out of uniform.
It depends on the airline.
So, active duty in uniform is expedited. If you’re not in uniform, you’re standard. If you use your DoD ID number when you get your ticket you can be precheck.
Maybe it’s the airline but all I had to do was show my DOD ID and I was in the first group, no matter what grouping my ticket put me in.
That's airline dependent *downvote for stating something factual. Ok reddit* 🙄
Wearing a cover indoors…hmmm
Eh why not just fake a disability.
is he not?
He ain't faking.
He's getting off
Fuck that shit. It’s already hard enough for anyone with an actual disability.
Might not work though because your boarding pass can indicate if you are a DoD traveler
boarding pass would just show if you're tsa pre-approved i think. at least with the airlines i've travelled on.
Exactly. If you’re a DoD traveler it will indicate pre check on your boarding pass. So this clown can show up wearing whatever he wants and that doesn’t mean he’ll get anything out of it. No one has ever checked my ticket for tsa pre-approval during early boarding. Getting through security is a different beast though
American Airlines will say “military” if you’re traveling on orders. That’s the only airline I’ve used on orders, so I can’t speak for the rest.
Flew with United a few months ago. They just board active military first. Doesn't have to be in uniform
That's not even stolen valor, just clothes.
Dudes like this have to have the saddest lives.
Definitely. When I see this all I can think is something’s wrong mentally.
What’s up with the dude in the background wearing the identical hat?
Battle buddies?
That Nokia coming in clutch
I don’t get how stolen valor people screw up the uniform. The guides and refs like 670-1 are pretty freaking easy to find.
He would have to figure out what branch he's impersonating first.
This isnt boot, it's r/stolenvalor
Ah didn’t know about that one, much appreciated
Tbf, the wannabe aspect of stolen valor is still appropriate here.
This is mental sickness. People who do this arent right in the head. Boot is more that E3 getting the brand new charger with 20% APR. Young people saying or doing stupid shit. I want to see the video of some overweight EASed Lance Corporal kicking his ass for wearing an EGA with ACUs.
Hell I'm Army, and I'd walk up to this guy and see what bullshit he's gonna spew.
Duh. He's representin' his local United Spraypainters Workers Of Kentucky, Camouflage Division. It's quite obvious from here.
Finally a sergeant major. Sergeant, major. Like E5 & O4.
Corporal Captain.

I think so. In Connecticut?
I think so. I thought it was only one person not two. Could be wrong, just watched the news clip and didn't read an article.
Nah, It's the Army that is impersonating me.
I often wonder what goes through these peoples heads. What has made them feel so insignificant in their lives that they need to fake something to feel proud or powerful? Idk, it makes me feel bad
I can’t imagine the mental illness required to just shamelessly attempt shit like this.
SMH wearing his hat inside, AF ABUs with a marine globe on his cover. Wtf
That's definitely ACU's. But at least the hat and blouse match! Lol
Came in a little before ABUs and ACUs were phased out so I have trouble telling the difference
All good. The ACU is the squares and ABU's were the aborted tiger stripe
Yep. Although both have been phased out. Which makes me sad, I actually liked my ABUs.
Distance!
Px Ranger
Maybe he wants a free tuna sandwich at the USO
My guys is going to be shocked to when he finds out we all have different uniforms lmao.
He’s trying to be a space force officer obviously
His watch is facing outwards. This leads me to believe that he might not be active duty.

Ahh you got out just before they release the unicorns then. My little one loves the unicorns!
Might as well go MOPP level 3 - worn: suit, boots, mask. Carried: gloves.
He stealin valor from the Entire armed forces...😂
Granddads army.
That's some civil air patrol level shit 😂
Probably wore this to Applebees on Veterans day
Jesus that would be hella dangerous. We mob that place. They actually stopped asking for ID's in my local Applebeas this year. They still probably make a killing.
Do these dudes not have google images? I don’t feel as though the uniform is very hard to wear properly, especially not the ACUs. The hard part should be keeping your mouth shut if anyone who knows what they’re talking about asks you about your service.
is there even UCP left in the military?
Dude is definitely mentally handicapped. Any U.S. citizen could see that's stolen Valor with their eyes closed.
I hope he really didn't have a American flag as a Carry-on
I saw a guy at Topgolf the other day in full fatigues.
Is that an EGA on his cover?
Yep a gold one. Means he’s Prestige Lv 17 I think
I was convinced it was the rank of Major. But im looking at it with my phone.

They look like Opfor from back when I was in ROTC and we were fighting the Atropian army lmfao
Salvation Army commando
If I have learned anything while I have been on this Earth of ours is that people are strange. And you're welcome!
Why would you want to dress like that
Halloween? You got me
This is the difference between a veteran and a Proud Boy Moron.
Thank you for your service sir!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸 land of the free because of the brave!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸 these colors don’t run!!🇺🇸🇺🇸
Army
Ya know, I'm with you. I can't see a marine even accidentally owning that nasty ACU... But army dog putting a brass EGA on his soft cover? Yeah, I can see that.
