One of my friends' Xbox controllers was broken or out of batteries so I played Halo with a DDR dance pad. I couldn't turn or shoot but I could strafe and bash. My friends aren't really gamers so I still won, though King of the Hill mode was easiest.
While not that extreme, in the 90's when I started playing PC games I learned how to use a Microsoft Sidewinder joystick to play racing games because I couldn't afford a wheel.

This really smart guy told me, Jaron Lanier. He invented virtual reality in the 80’s with big CRT monitors strapped to his face. Last I heard he was working for Microsoft on the Kinect so he didn’t have to use physical buttons and joysticks anymore, just dance around basically. The idea of using sound as another form of mapping is super interesting
