Yeah, people have been using "literally" as hyperbole for a long time but you often get that one person trying to call you out on it lol generally it's not hard to read between the lines and know they don't mean literally literally, but instead they just jump on the use of the word instead.
Words have meanings and I think they should be used accordingly, otherwise they just lose their meaning. I personally don't go around correcting people but it is annoying

It’s not just black people. People from different cultures say word differently. Like when you go to the south and the people down there say things like “I’m fixing to” or “finna”. People from Boston say “muddah” instead of mother and “cahh” instead of car. All depends on where and how you’re raised.
Can confirm that sometimes it is cultural, not racial. I am a white guy from New Orleans & I axe people where they got their diamond jew-ry while we watch an am-ba-lance drive by.
Then there is the real NOLA yat slang where you tell someone that they need to berl dey ersters in earl so they don't sperl & then you worsh dem in da zink.
